The Hundred is never going to challenge the IPL 😂
Not even BPL 😂
Not even the John Macey 20 over knockout in Monmouthshire.
They got you with the clickbait 😂
Ive never thought theres enough differentiation between it and t20
No one seams to mention the core problem for ECB. They forgot to copywrite the T20 Brand. that's why they want to own "100" as a brand they can market and franchise.
Very true. Still ridiculous, however.
They couldn't copyright it. T20 had been played in the UK for years as midweek cricket.
@@Baldrick99 Yes and I've played it since I was a Kid. But it wasn't copywritten so it could not be sold and marketed as such
Yes, I absolutely agree. Also, when it comes to betting, T20 has the upper hand.
Mickey mouse tournament
The ECB is neglecting Test cricket and the first class game to play this.
That's an insult to Mickey Mouse
Generous to compare it to Mickey mouse
😂
Mickey Mouse was successful.
WTF WAS WRONG WITH THE T20 BLAST THAT YOU BROUGHT IN AN EVEN MORE CONFUSING TOURNAMENT
Why do you type in capitals? No one listen to you in real life?
cos there 18 team and 3 times as many games so doesnt fit into the tv schedule
@@roxyskinflint22222also the county teams are crap. Too many teams so talent spread too thin which makes a mediocre tournament, hundred is fewer teams with top talent and coaching played in a short period. It’s great!
@@theojenner1902the talents spread fin, as they are having to give up their players to everyone else including this cobblers.
It’s so poor, and the embarrassing sky build up to every game is even worse, put the money into Test,50 Over and T20’s,there’s enough cricket to enjoy! The ECB are just money grabbing at the expense of county game,we’ve lost Stokes cos of the hundred! It’s utter shite!!
The problem is the 100 ball format. It's too long! Gotta have 99 balls. 4.5 balls per over. And pastels instead of neon colors. That's the problem. 10 and a quarter player per side with 9 runs for a six and 3.5 runs for a four and 3/4 of a run for each single. Free calculators for the audience so they can keep up. Keep it stupid, simple!
How, exactly, do you bowl an over that consists of 4.5 balls?
@@portcullis5622 after 1st four balls delivered, cut the ball in half and bowl the half piece
@@simantadoley9661 Excellent idea.
Two problems; the 100 ball format - why did they not simply have a franchise T20 tournament. Then, who cares about the teams? I follow Lancashire in all formats of the game (not live but through various media outlets) and care about how they perform. What do they call the franchise that operates out of Old Trafford? I don't know and don't care.
@@markbateman9222 Exactly how I feel. I am from Yorkshire, but I could watch and enjoy Derbyshire v Leicestershire in a 20 over game. I have no interest whatsoever in who wins between the Northern Batterychargers and Manchester (Wurthers) Originals. Same with all the other made up franchise teams with laughable names and no history. Now that the Oval Invincibles have lost a few games, shouldn't they have their name changed?
The 100 makes 0 sense. It is a gimmick. Cricket is eating itself alive
England is eating cricket in england
It's great for women's cricket.. not so much for the men..
🎯
Agreed
It's great for women's cricket because they are finally being given a chance to play in a highly competitive arena, it's nothing to do with the format.
@@jonnybrown2834 Yes, but it's still a good thing for womens cricket. I watched more of the women's 100 than the men's. Smth that I never would do normally.
I think they made it more complicated than simple. Just make it a T20 tournament and its all good. It's tge best women's league at the moment and it will remain for next few years.
Men's tournament needs to change.
T20 blast is so much better than the hundred.
9 million a year loss. Not including the compensatory payments made to counties.
It makes money from investors. Not supporters.
Free tickets for matches are given away like confetti. Every local school, cricket club and business is showered with free tickets. The crowds you see at games do not represent ticket sales. They represent ticket give-aways.
Then with ten clubs not in The Hundred the competition has disenfranchised around 40% of the existing cricket audience to begin with.
The basic gameplay of the hundred with being able to bowl 5 or 10 balls is more confusing than regular t20 cricket
The T20 Blast should be our premier competition.
Absolutely .... Even Indian players can play that tournament not necessarily the big names but you give a young Indian player a chance and it will attract the eyeballs. So go with that.
That would've been ideal. The counties want as many home games as possible, with as many of those as possible on Friday and Saturday nights though. That creates an overlong tournament that even I as an obsessive fan drifted in and out of watching. A long tournament also meant the quality of overseas was diving as other tournaments grew. The counties wouldn't yield on having a shorter tournament though. I'm no fan of The Hundred, but that doesn't leave the counties blameless. The Blast needed to change to keep relevance regardless of the Hundred being created, yet the counties refused to consider that change. A shame.
It can’t be though. There are too many teams, and talent too spread out. If you want to improve blast you need to have fewer teams
A key problem with The Hundred is that there’s never anyone making a ‘100 runs’ which is one of the biggest pillars of Cricket enjoyment. T20 at least allows few people to make 100
It’s like taking away score streak from call of duty
English cricket needs to lose its delusions of grandeur. Its place is as one of the secondary t20 tournaments. It will do fine if it fits under an international IPL oriented structure; but will fail if it tries to ignore that place
The Hundred is to cricket what McDonalds is to fine dining.
vitality blast is better then hundred they should promote vitality blast more
The format is really bad and dumb, it is only good for women's cricket because the best women player participate in it. The women competition will still flourish if the they change the format to T20.
Bin the hundred, invest in the blast
Not gonna happen. There is talk of outside private investment in the hundred. Its here to stay, the question is whether they add more teams or change the format
@joebowden4065 They can add as many teams as they like, but I will still not be interested. I really cannot care about franchise teams, with no history.
100 is very far from the cricket most of the world watches, never seen a game and not going to. Why? Why introduce something new when you have T20 format very close to it.
Just bin the 100. It’s a waste of time.
We in 20th august to wait for test cricket this is crazy
The hundred is confusing at times. For example the graphics, what’s an over, the list goes on. It’s never going to challenge IPL. They should’ve thrown money to the t20 blast. That’s awesome!
Here is my solution aka footbalisation: every t20 league happens over the course of a year you have no players who jump around you make the hundred a t20 competition now this will most likely dull the amount of big name players however i think the main problem with this idea is the seasons we cant just put all of these series at the same point so i would make the 100 happen late summer in england same with the mlc and cpl and all of the southern hemisphere teams play in early summer so you get a clear slot for franchise cricket and once all the tournaments culminate you go into a champions league format have the top 4 teams from the ipl top 2 teams from the hundred so so forthe. The drafts would be overhauled for transfers and players would be given player of the tournament for who did best in each league and player of the franchises for the best franchise league player completley seperate from the wisden player of the year so you end up with abiut 4-5 months of t20 cricket no overworked players and happy purists that my piece. Nobody is goinb to read this i just spent half an hour on this i have homework due.
NOT GONA HAPPEN. That said hundred bring different stuff. It will stay in Uk and wont go anywhere else. You have to put lots of money first to get some. Others dont have that money.
Without IPL ownders SA IPL wont fly. its Indian audience keep cricket floating
It can't-we have zero interest in it. It is Cricket for people that don't like Cricket. That BBC scoreboard graphic looks like an Opticians eye test.
The West Indies PL & MLC will both be better than the 100.
Everyone thinks the Hundred is total shit, do we now just live in a world of opposites? Very strange how this question would even be open to debate
Been following the England tests, County Championship, One Day Cup and the Blast since the start of the season. But I haven't watched a single ball of the Hundred.
Pointless tinkering with the format (how is the concept of a 6-ball over seen as so difficult for a newcomer to the game to understand?) and teams that I feel no connection to and can't get behind.
Forget the Hundred and invest properly in the Blast.
the 100 isnt easier. Its way more complicated and feels gimmicky. I havent been given a reason to care about it
Area 6 vs Area 9. Who cares? The County game is an amazing product / competition with loyal fans. Should have stuck with the County teams & invest that was.
Love Kimber but LOL’d at him thinking Americans just “randomly” switch cricket on. No American has Willow in their home unless they called their cable provider for it..
Just make it a t20 competition and put all the resources and see the results. It's that simple!!!!!!!!
I'm a die-hard, and at the height of summer, the apex of my cricket watching - August - I haven't watched a ball all month...And I tried...that, surely, is a damning indictment, and I doubt I'm alone...it'll make more sense changing it to England's premier T20 comp, and let the Indian sponsors in 🙈
Yep same here. Summers aren't the same... it's very disjointed and lacks any momentum if you don't enjoy the 100
Can only tolerate a few minutes of the 100 before i switch it off.
at least all other formats follow basic cricketing rules
What happens if the Indian don't bother to bid for a team? Who else will put in the big bucks? LALA LAND!
They're all idiots, let us start the five- one ball per bowler, w ait for it......... Underarm with a tennis ball! The batsman only allowed a tennis racket, nope a table tennis bat! Going to patent it now!
No no no. Bin the Hundred.
Make it T20 and standardize the format. No more new formats...
It will never win over existing English cricket fans, the loyalty within the counties to their county is too strong that the hundred will never win those fans over. A hugely overlooked fact as well is how much cricket is passed down through families, and a huge majority of fans first experiences with cricket is with older family members taking them to their local counties games, only by getting such a vast amount of new cricket fans to the hundred could it survive and be successful, as most existing county fans outright refuse to even watch on TV, let alone pay to attend a game.
I will watch anycricket, anywhere, but the hundred, i didntwatch a bowl ofthe hundred the men's one, and when I occassionally tuned in for women's game, i tuned in to see women's cricket not the hundred..
If one's so obsessed with anhundred ball competition lets go all metric put 10 balls in an over ball 100 balls from two ends, absolute nightmare for 90+ pacers, but I might watch that, the 100 just doesnt feel like cricket, I used to follow a lot of blast, even the royal london one day cup IDK what they call it now, but did the ECB practically kill all of that for this shitshow?
The main issue for the hundred is that most cricket fans in its host country DON'T WANT IT! They actively fight against it. Why don't you listen to the fans?
The Hundred is still too complex for new audiences, but at the same time it is confusing for cricket fans. 😂
Dustbin the Hundrec and create a propef t20 franchise league like the IPL with a auction
For the hundred to rival the IPL or BBL, it will become a T20 competition but it needs also to have franchises in Ireland, Scotland and the Netherlands and it's schedule needs to encourage overseas players so eight games per franchise in three weeks plus semi finals and final, so the competition isn't longer than four weeks.
At this rate cricket with be reduced for 6 balls per innings😂😂
Can the EWCB's joke tournament compete with, or mirror, the IPL, a tournament played in a country with an obsession with cricket (and gambling) and a population of 1.4 billion?
Simple answer, no.
No league will come close to IPL. It is already too big; just like the Premier League for football.
100 should be scrapped- nonsense game that has taken away cricket from traditionalist’s during August. August is now a void of cricket.
This might be a stupid question. But the rest of the cricketing world is playing T20. So why don't you drop hundred and play T20?
Bin t20 and play only the 100. Choice is easy which will go. Problem is not India bumble it is 99% of world which does not give a hoot about this stupid format. The hubris is extraordinary
Vitality blast much better than hundred to be honest I am an Indian saying this. Hundred is just garbage no offense. I use to watch some highlights sometimes and it just seemed better. I don’t know what the point of the 100 was. Also isn’t vitality blast like the oldest t20 league I believe 2003? Just stick with that and put resources in there. You will make money.
20/20 is just garbage and not what I call cricket. I have no interest in an even shorter game. If I was growing up now I wouldn't be interested in in either.
And then theae people cry about Test cricket not growing and India taking it over. They can easily scrap these leagues and just have the IPL and the Big bash as another one where the rest of the players who don't get into the IPL get into. England should stop crying and play tests if they really want to save it as they say. Put the money where their mouths are because India plays great test cricket, ODIs and T20s. The calendar should be filled with the other teams playing Test cricket and England running a competition for that with the minnows getting a chance to qualify for the WTC with proper experience.
No one actually talks about hundred except the overhyped english media
How about bin the crappy 100 and have T20 and have all sides back. The fact that you have one of the best T20 sides in the country over the years not having a 100 side is laughable. People here from Somerset have to travel over 100 miles to go to Wales to watch a short format game because Taunton isn't a city. Even tho they have won T20 crowns over the years is disgusting.
Nonsense if 120 ball format is there wats point of 100? Now someone will come with 15 overs? Already t10 leagues r there. 50 yrs down the line, we will end up with the toss only😂😂😂 😂😂
England does have the potential to be 2nd best league provided they play t20.
English market is still bigger for cricket than SA and US.
I tried getting into 100 but lame rules threw me off 💯 I’ll stick to traditional cricket and T20
How can you attract kids into the 100 if when they go to play cricket at club level, they play T20 with 6 ball overs? It is going to confuse them lol
ECB trying to be relevant.....Hundred is a DUD, Lloyd as always says what hes been told to
Forget the Hundred, I didn't even know England is playing Test cricket currently lol
Isn’t there a women’s tournament in the Hundred, I’ve heard it’s been quite a success, according to this you wouldn’t know.
serious cricket viewers can never really enjoy mickey mouse tournaments such as the IPL or the Hundred or the many #PL across the world.
May b im oldscool. Nobody in subcontinental spectator cares about 100 except who gambles.
The Hundred takes everything that's wrong with T20 cricket and makes it worse.
none of these comps will realise their potential until the BCCI allows indians to play in overseas tournaments. But Jay Shah wont allow this because it reduce his market share and power he has over cricket and the ICC
It’s awful. It’s got over-priced tickets. It feels false. No-one cares.
Feels like nobody wants it four years in. It's just a crap version of T20
I think its boring format bcoz very one sided matches are happen in hundred changed into t twenty with same time limits
No, no, no. Bin the hundred or change it to T20 like it should be. Hubris at its worst.
The hundred and the ipl are both crap. Test cricket is the ultimate thats why its called a test. And the ipl needs to cut down it goes on forever
I get why ECB betting on 100 and in UK FOOTBALL taken over CRICKET and to catch that audience back they need to shorten the game similar to football and they also trying to place this format in OLYMPICS as it is short than other formats .
Time will only tell will this 100 come out in flying colours or go boo .
But currently not much noise been generated by 100 outside UK TBH .
Football has been bigger than cricket for the better part of a century here
The issue is rugby has also increased to cricket levels too
T20 over the hundred
Whole world plays t20 only us play the hundred
ECB should partner with IPL and host some games in UK !! That will bring more crowds than ever !!
A day night game in England in April, what could possibly go wrong?
If epl loses all english fans and they all shift to cricket then too it seems impossible
I like the hundred but you can’t beat T20 where all counties are identified not just the main stadiums.
And test cricket is by far the best proper cricket
@@geoffbutler2893 I like odi better but test is also good. Honestly I like all formats other than hundred and t10. Odi is my favorite though.
Never happening. How embarrassingly stupid does this make ECB look in the eyes of cricket fans .
Doubt if any of the IPL owners are interested, honestly think they will rather have more WPL teams judging by the attendance/viewing figures after just two seasons! Should have done more for the T20 teams!
Nice. Some old bloke likes the hundred and so India will have to reconsider the greatest cricket league competition in the world. There is absolutely no reason for a random format line the hundred other than the ECB ego. Bin the hundred and get on with T20. Accept that the hundred is a failure and move on.
hundred makes no sense, it is nonsensical just play t20
Hundred score board on the screen is pathetic..
It wont its bloody awful simple as that
Its a gimmick competition. It's rubbish
All T20 is mediocre. Like a 5 minute improv skit. IPL, PSL(I'm a Pakistani), Hundred whatever.
Test cricket is the beast. A TV series lasting 5 days. Memorable and important!
Boring Hundred League 😂
It's ugly, a lack of technique and consistency, aboslutley awful. If you can't applaude a good forward defense it's not cricket.
The 100 is shit, next.
If your bringing in all the hundred gimmicks to attract new eyes on cricket, where else can they watch this format. They cant. Nobody has taken up the format because it’s awful.
IPL far superior. All the big stars play in IPL. Too many stupid rules in 100.
Faltu league hundred
The Hundred is a BS experiment. All its doing is confusing old and new potential fans of cricket
Here is a wacky idea, combine the MLC with the hundred 12 teams half the tournament in the USA half in England, switch where the playoffs/championship is held every other year.
100 league is actually quite good idk why bunch of grumpies are so mad at it
The debate dances round the problem. County sides are not strong enough and an elite competition which welcomes players from all counties is required. The tinkering with the formats is just bad window dressing.
Be less boring though. 😂 and also, the marvel of stats and figures is missin in this tournament. With the convoluted balls and overs as well as the "new" scoreboard to watchers with balls and score going in two directions, its a chore to watch. 100 in 36 balls doesnt have the same vibe that 100 in 6 overs has
In what sport do all the best players play in the best leagues? Its okay to have multiple leagues
I must agree with Jarod, watching the MLC, I can say Nikhil, Styris, Pommie and all other comms except Sunil were actually commentating or trying to do for 2 audiences. Even the TV graphics included the measurement with which the American audience could resonate.
I don't understand the need to dumb down the things instead of teaching the rules
Really? You don’t see the benefit of appealing to a much bigger casual audience, who want to be entertained without knowing the nuances of the LBW law?
@@Deadhorseflogger Is the LBW law different in The Hundred? I don't know.
But I agree that the newer audience may have an easier time understanding who is winning the Hundred. A Hundred follower will get confused once (s)he shifts to other formats, if (s)he does that. So basically the person has to understand new rules anyway.
@@feeltheheat824 the way to get a new audience involved is not to say “we’re not going to make this easy……go away and learn the rules and don’t come back until you know them”. It’s to make it easier for them to understand the basics and then, once engaged, they can dig deeper. I thought that would be obvious.
Hundred when you see scores of 100_120 in 100 balls it is boring .both men and women are not even able to score 30 runs in powerplays is sign of bad tournament in current year
