- I replace my old spark plugs on my 2016 Prius C. Denso recommends replacing them at 30k miles while Toyota does so at 100k. I am a big fan of preventative maintenance to keep my car running well so I change them at 72k miles.

You make this seem like the easiest car repair to do. Let’s see how many ways I can unintentionally fuck this up.
Take your time and don't rush. Believe in yourself, you got this!
@@Echizen32kMedia What a cheerful dude. The world's better for having you :)
Gotta love the Prius C!
Thank you!!! It worked! So happy to be able to do it myself with your very clear video, and save a bunch of $.
The dealer shipped asked for $454 for this job. Thanks!
These [OEM iridium] spark plugs will last 100,000 miles or a bit more. If you're concerned about them "sticking" or getting stuck in a little bit of copper anti-seize on the threads will go a long way. Not too much anti-seize because it's not good to have it in the combustion chamber/cylinder. Your old plugs, at 50,000 miles could have been cleaned with a propane torch, burning off any deposits that they may have had. Obviously, if you do this technique don't have flammable material nearby. I hold mine with long pliers with gloves on over concrete as I use the flame on the torch to burn off deposits. Let them cool before reinstalling.
The 3rd and 4th Ignition coil from the left hand side is very difficult to unscrew....
I could be wrong but that looks like more than 15 ft/lbs of torque
Can I hand tighten it with a socket wrench or must it have 15ft/lbs?
Just wanted to say thanks. I got my dad a Prius like yours and it's a new car for me to work on. I'm very familiar around Hondas n Scions and now you've made it that much more easier for me to do this newer car I'm kinda scared of lol. Love your videos they are straight n to the point on a very great pace. Do you have one on changing the gaskets?
Thanks for watching! Prius C are very easy to work on. I don't have one on changing the oil gasket, but I'll keep it in mind for future videos.
I cant seem to remove the caps (that are attached to the wires) i tried for half an hour they would not budge... any recommendations?
Could you write out a list of the tools you used? Gonna need to buy some of these to do my spark plugs
What is the gap?
Thanks!! I think I can do this.
you're using 8 or 10 inch extension to remove 10 mm but I tried 6 inch and it doesn't fit and with 3 inch extension something in the way to loosen the lug nut from 3rd spark plug from the left
Smooth as a baby's bottom! 👍
Thank you for sharing this 🤍🌼
I have a 2016 Prius C - when would you recommend replacing the ignition coils?
Good question, I know spark plugs are recommend at 100k. I did mine at 50k, but as far as ignition coils are good to go unless they have cracks or you get a code.
Did you experience any difference after the swap in terms of fuel economy and power?
I think maybe just a little better MPG but not much difference. I just feel better knowing that I am taking care of the car.
@@Echizen32kMedia Thank you very much for your kind reply dear sir!
Nice job. Understood you are changing them preemptively, but just wonder it should be done later? Prius C maintenance schedule says 120k miles.
Actually Toyota regular cars (such as Corolla) with the same type of spark plugs call for 12 years / 120k miles schedule. Since Prius C runs the ICE intermittently, it seems reasonable to change them even at a higher mileage, probably double the mileage you have (140 - 150k)?
Thanks, yes they do recommend changing them at 120K. But I just wanted to do them earlier so the car runs a little better and they're fairly cheap. I think you should be alright changing them at 120k.
I agree to do them earlier than later. Mine have 100000 miles and I am about to get it done. Nice job and video. I am about to change my transmission fluid the second time. Have you think about change the water pump at 120000 miles even though nothing wrong with it? Because I hear once the water pump not working and it’s going to hurt the engine right away.
Local shop wants $180 for labor for this job
Thanks ❤for the good job
