You go girl catching on so fast, I see ya, it’s a blessing to have a brother that will take out the time to teach his sister to fish, thas a man of integrity, y’all keep enjoying the fishing, 👍
This is the most educational video I've seen on RUclips in a long time most people just throw a cork out with a worm or Cricket on it and say I got one but some of them don't tell what bait they using what type of line they using they just say there's a bed off fish over there but you also showed it I like the method that you use for kitchen shell crackers I raise worms for about 20 years and this year I got some European I used to raise wiggler and little Reds the shell crackers like the wigglers the best here and Cordele Georgia the watermelon capital of the world thanks for the video
Great Vid! New subscriber from Indiana. We just did this yesterday on a public reservoir. Only 1 Redear (Shellcracker), but around 150 Bluegill in the 7-11" range & a few dandy Pumpkinseed... same technique!
very very useful info. here in my area in Mx we mostly have Blue tilapia, bass and sometimes bluegill. thi will come in useful this weekend. thank you.
Man I use to fish a farm pond in the 80s in north ga that had some big S C. They were a blast on an ultra lite 4 pound test and crickets. I would flip the cricket on top of the water. Loved it when they would bust top water.
I bought and used side scan sonar to spot beds. They appear just as they look with your eyes. You can see the bowl and bottom material piled around if they are spawning on fanned beds.
I was dreading that raccoon grabbing that bait, and then having to watch you unhook an angry trash panda. That said, good info. I'll put it to use in the morning.
Thank you for the informative video. Have you ever experimented with other types of food that they will eat? I’m interested to see if they can eat fish pellets and grow.
@tootnguyen2001 I feed pellets in my pond through the summer. Bluegill and catfish hit them pretty hard. I never see the shellcrackers eat pellets. However, I think they eat some of the ones that sink. I have caught some after feeding that had pettets in their stomach.
Noone has ever said to me that a nightcrawler is too big of a bait for shellcrackers but i have thought to myself that they're too expensive to throw a whole one into a bed of bluegills or Shelly's. LOL 🤣
The shellcrackers can get a lot bigger. Aside from that and a little color difference, they are pretty close to the same fish. They taste the same anyways.
@pine0981 "They" say first full moon in May but it has always been the first week of May around this part of Tennessee. The only time I have seen it be different is when winter sticks around too long.
I typically use a 2000 series spinning reel (I have a couple) and a lite rod. I mostly use my Panfish Elite rod from Bass Pro. 6lb mono is my go-to for most panfish.
The only way to do it is to be on the water. Here in my area, I start watching throughout the last week of April and keep watching until I start seeing beds or those cloudy spots in the water. It is mostly water temperature. So, if winter drags on, it will push them back a bit. If it's warm early, they may spawn a bit early. You have to keep a watch to be sure.
GoPro lens? I have no idea. I doubt a lens would help in muddy water. I used mine in my pond and it is fairly clear maybe a bit cloudy and the video was not good enough. The fish needed to be within 4 to 6 inches of the camera to see with any clarity.
@@JumboPlug368 I use the sunrise yellow lenses because I use mine in early morning light a lot. Amber lenses are supposed to produce brighter vision and high contrast, you might try those. But they do not catagorize them by water clarity. They catagorize them by how much light you have. Muddy water is just going to be tough. Most of the time, all you see is a shadow. Even then, the fish needs to be near the surface.
I'd watch screwing around with a raccoon like that Expeacially when he's that docile. Somethings not right. He's probably rabid or something. You usually don't see them out in the daytime their usually nocturnal most of the time.
@@midsouthoutdoors7321 I've never fished a lake or a pond but maybe twice!! I go in the backwaters and Creek's and this year I been catching some big shell cracker and brim!!! @@midsouthoutdoors7321 please tell me what that other lake is! I've never done well at Glenn Springs. Herb Parsons is low and I mean low. They had giant shellcrackers back in the day but I cannot find them there anymore. They are my favorite fish by far.

@@redbloodedamerican3204 We did not at that age either. LOL It's a right of passage to fight with your siblings while you're kids.
Love catching shell crackers! Night crawlers and red worms work like a charm 👌🏼
Thanks Hannah. I hope you are catching a bunch of them out there.
@@midsouthoutdoors7321 absolutely! 🎣

How many points do I get for all the trees I caught that day?

3 points. Now you are back to the beginning.

where are you fishing?
Glen Springs Lake
Never EVER screw with a raccoon that is out during the day, ESPECIALLY if they look as poor as that one. Rabies shots are NO fun!
Absolutely. He did look a bit on the boney and scruffy side. Definitely don't want to deal with rabies or shots.
What was that you marked the fish with and how can I get it?
It's an app called On X Hunt. You can get it in the app store. It's a pay app. There are a few free apps that do the same thing like HuntStand
Never herd of a shellcracker what’s the differance blue gill & a shellcracker
The shellcrackers can get a lot bigger. Aside from that and a little color difference, they are pretty close to the same fish. They taste the same anyways.
OK, what time of year is best for this? Moon phase?
