Years ago my Dad took us fishing and we ate what we caught. Some places had Red Ear Sunfish. They tasted good and we had sweet corn, tomatoes, and new potatoes. Summer feast

Great vid! Love your enthusiasm! used to fish an off the beaten path reservoir in N. Ca. when I lived there and we occasionally caught red ears 1 to 1.5 pound and thought they were monsters lol.
I bet you would absolutely tear em up crickets on a slip float. That's what we use for big gills round here. And all the local bait shops have been getting giant crickets lately if you want them. Never used to be sold by size but they are now. Maybe their coming from all the new cricket farms that have popped up since they want us to eat crickets now😲. 3.7 lbs? And I have a 2 acre pond in Alabama, the largest bluegills are 1 lb 6 oz. Maybe a few heavier. I have fishing buddies that LIE all the time about catching monster shellcrackers and bluegill (even bass). I weigh all mine on digital scales! You are amazing!

Little open face Daiwa ultra-lite with 4lb line . My first was about 8 inches long and it almost pulled the rod outta my hand ! Lol - caught a few small ones that day . That is friggin insane!! Possibly one of the coolest fish I've ever seen, esp when I start thinking about how we talk about knowing a good panfish spot if we're catching like 1 lb fish 🤣 that thing was a freak of nature for its species.
Lake Havasu is one of my favorite places to fish. You should go fish rainbow pools in Groveland California right outside Yosemite. The biggest and prettiest Native rainbow trout you will ever see. You have to do a 20-minute hike but it's so worth it. I travel there from Texas every year because it's that incredible. I fish behind the old sawmill. above rainbow pools. Dig a hole right on the bank and use the native live worms.
Was fishing a small lake in N.C in 82 or 83...using worms and bobbers...My bobber just shot straight down with no nibbling...I've never had a fish fight like this thing did. When I landed him found out it was a Bluegill...and he was massive. We didn't have any way to weigh him, but he was the circumference of a salad plate...and THICK....he had to have weighed 4 pounds +....
No fishing for me for awhile. I got injured on the job, so I can only be on my feet 15 minutes out of an hour. That was a gigantic sunfish. Nice video, as always.
I never fish with anything less than 10lb test line, mostly 10lb test Trilene Clear, X-limp. 7'4", extra fast single piece St. Croix fishing pole, Shimano open face reel. Great video, fishing trip boys.., Well Done. 👍
All I use is 4lb. Sometimes I have to use 6 in rocky rivers, but if I can swing it I'm going 4lb all day. You really can catch a 4/5 smallmouth on 4lb line no problem. I'm always amazed by the rope spooled winches I see people fish with.
I can honestly say I break off 10x more with 15lb+ line than I do with 4-8lb. When I'm using lighter line I'm not around heavy cover or anything but it's all about setting the drag right
@@joshuagibson2520 Yeah whichever you're better with is the one that's gonna work best. People who have back reeled forever are just as good as a drag system
Here in Fl we get some really nice bream, bluegills, shell crackers, stump knockers. When they bed up you can score a cooler full in a couple hrs. 1 1/4- 1 1/2# all day, even a few 2# sometimes. But I’ve never seen a bream that big in my life! Well done! We love fishing them on ultra lites with a worm, right on the bottom. Sometimes crickets really turn them on. Holy damn!!!! Those are massive red ears!!! I’ve never seen any as big as that!! The biggest red ear I caught measure about 13 1/2 inches and about 2 pounds only! Ya made it look so easy!!! Incredible!!!
Ty you shown us several giant bluegill in your videos. They look like they're puffed out beyond all possibility. I imagine a bluegill like that exploding underwater rather than growing old!
What I find fascinating is what an abundant food source they have to grow so big. Just barren hills surrounding what looks like a reservoir. No swamps to attract bugs, lizards or frogs. Im baffled by what they must have to eat down there. And this may be a stupid question, but could they be artificially fed? We stock lakes and rivers with fish, so it's entirely concievable we feed them also. Just askin..
