Growing up in the South we had specific names for "Pan fish". In his opening statement it was mentioned that "pan fish" were considered to be either "Sunfish" or "Crappie"'. Where I grew up "Sunfish" are considered "Bream". Crappie are up to 4-5 lbs are considered "Slab Crappie". Believe me when they are considered cooked that they taste nothing close to the same. Thought I would let you know. As a kid we fished at Tunica Cutoff. It was a lake fed by the waters of the Mississippi River. Believe me some days the fish were huge. Great eating.

Cool video. Wish you could have used 15 ft cane poles and bobbers like we did in the younger days. That would have been epic.

I second that I live 45 mins away across the river in Missouri. It's my favorite lake and it's a joy to ride around too.

Those are very tasty when fried up for the meat is slightly sweet and easily comes off the bones. I used to just dispatch them, scale them, cut the head and fins off, remove the entrails, rinses, dry, and dip in egg/milk beat up and pat into seasoned cornmeal flour mixture to fry up in liquid oill like canola oil. One of the very best tasting varieties of fish in the world and lots of fun for people of all ages. Not a bad fish for it's easy to catch in numbers, anyonne can catch them, and they taste and smell so good. It's quality is pretty and clean.
