3DTechDraw Shop Tour: AMAZING Okuma Multus 3000 and More!

- Опубликовано: 6 май 2019
- 3DTechDraw (3DTech) Shop Tour! Laurens Wijnschenk walks us through what is lovingly called their "hobby shop." The reason? They still get to do what they love! Laurens's brother, Jasper, started a modeling/design service that has evolved into a full-on machine shop despite their initial lack of knowledge in the industry. The success of 3DTech is a testament to their willingness to learn AND their ability to push the limits of software and machine tools! An amazing shop with some impressive Okuma and Doosan CNC machines!

I don't know a thing about machining but the enthusiasm and passion for the work is infectious and kept me watching
Best part of all is that, they are self taught machinist and they employ people that are still in apprentice level.Very nice video and amazing shop👍👍
Exactly.
Antonmursid🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🇮🇩🇮🇩🇮🇩🇮🇩🇮🇩💝✌🙌
I know Laurens from the Fusion forums. He is a very knowledgeable guy and he is always there for you when you need help. It is going to be pure joy watching this shop tour.
Agree - solid guy and very helpful on the forums!
Video is example of how wonderful it is to find someone to talk to who understands what you are saying and is interested in it.
After seeing so many expensive machines not being used, I can only imagine the overhead.
His passion is so infectious and looks like someone willing to share his knowledge.
Laurens talks in a more enthusiastic manner than John. I didn't think it is possible! LOL!
That's actually pretty normal for Dutch people.
I love Laurens' energy.
What a fantastic tour, these guys are such an inspiration to all, being self tort and just making things work because there is a possibility that it just can be done then proving that it is doable is beyond amazing, just by watching this video gives you inspiration to putting your own ideas into reality, it is a true credit to these guys, they seen an opportunity and just went with, I’ve always said a company is only as good as there employees and seeing and hearing how the interaction is between everyone meaning that everyone stops and has a break together, a coffee and a get together before work starts goes a long way to a happy work environment and that’s the major thing in my eyes, absolute credit the these guys and John thank you for taking the time to bring this to us, Matty🇦🇺
fantásticos

That’s one smart due with lost of passion. I think he loves his job.
An articulate guy who makes sure you don't have many questions, but your sharp self.... KUDO'S, very much enjoyed( learned ) his diverse equipment. Thank you! Seth
... It's good to see such attention to detail and enthusiasm coming from both the host and the CEO's... they show such passion for what they do and obviously don't see their work as just doing a 'job'... Kudos!
opoopo
This is better than James Bond movie.. I would love to watch this many times!!! Great host speaker too.. This is passion! Thank you guys.
Prachtig bedrijf hebben jullie opgebouwd! met veel interesse deze aflevering gekeken.
As an 80 year old....When I grow up and have my own company, THIS is the guy I want working for me.... A "hands on" genius...! Thank You, John for restoring my faith in the younger generation....!
Megamesin🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏✌💝👌🇲🇨🇲🇨🇲🇨🇲🇨✌💝👌
Almost 2 hours , jesus , i tought it was about 50 minutes . Love this shop , i'd really like to work there
I love the stories about successful shops that started really small (like yours).
It's amazing how fluent the Dutch are in English! I wish my Dutch was even a fraction of their English proficiency.
Their schools are great. The majority of Dutch high school graduates are fluent in English.
U can tell by his hair that this man is an amazing engineer💪🏽🧰❤️
Really enjoyed the tour and of course hearing some of the reasons they do things a certain way.
Nice vid!
Culemborg is just a few miles from where I live.
But you should set you camera to 50Hz flicker filter when in Europa, or you get issues with the lights, as in this video.
Lauren’s, You need a rotating window, like in a wheelhouse of a ship. That applies centrifugal force and through debris and coolant to the side so you have always a clear view in the machine!
Kent screen
1:15:38 Daaaamn that live center with the force gauge on it is AWESOME! Low tech, simple and easy.
Love these shop tours.
Oh man, I'm dribbling, the workspace looks amazing 😍
Laurens, actually living nearby you shop location (Haarlem). Fantastic tour, fantastic work atmosphere! Although working in a different work environment, would be real challenge to switch 😏
Great tour! Thanks John.
That was AWESOME!!!!
Awesome dude and awesome shop. I remember him from the forums. Always helpful
Shop goals right here
Nice walkthrough
Thanks!
Finally I can couple the name Laurens to a face! Nice documentary!
thanks!
Awesome and inspirational! !
I just love these videos.
That enthusiasm 💪 respect for them and the way They grew the company .
This video is super inspiring!
this guy is very good.really enjoy watching.
Very cool ahhh tour and company! 😜
Wow. This was absolutely fascinating from beginning to end. This type of machinery is so cool. This is the first I've seen this channel and I'm instantly hooked!
"this is the tool you're using"
"how did you get that out of the machine without me noticing"
speaking of the hole and the countersink, link industries makes some for drilling and chamfering through-holes for 82 degree flat heads. They're on MSC.
Nederlandddddd!!!🍻🍻
Prachtig werk jongens!
That okuma multius is incredible.
Amazing tour..... I really like the multus want one...
Very professional, impressive shop
Hey John,
If your ever in Canada you must try and get ahold of Integrity tool and Mold. I guarantee it will be like nothing you have ever seen. They have some massive machines. Also, they mostly have high speed cnc 5-axis and many more unique machines.
Great vid and awesome shop! 👌🏻👌🏻
Thanks!
very cool tour.
Great show
Wow I'm jealous of that control on the multi task machine! I wish I had that control on my Mazak Intergrex. My machine was built in 2006. That kind of control wasn't available in 13 years ago. Very nice shop. Do you see the difference in a shop set up by someone without a traditional machining background from one who does?
1) It's crazy to think that 2006 was 13 years ago
2) Great question - yes, absolutely - but not so much a "lack of traditional machining background" and more the fact that they started from scratch (with focus on CNC) and thus there isn't any "collecting" of older tools and the proverbial "Junk drawers"
I was just going to comment... "You think that's a big machine, you should see Peter's Mazak." Lol.
Peter...it looks like your hotel is going to be short one floor for a while while you make payments on a new Multifunction machine. I wonder if they make one big enough for you.
@@paulmace7910 Pretty sure a Multus B750 will be big enough😜
It doesn't have as nice a conversational side as your Mazak I believe. Yet there is a solution that cover that too and that is the Siemens control. I know that Doosan with a Siemens on the SMX has the collision avoidance and fantastic conversational side.
many thanks for sharing
That's a real machine shop. Okuma's are awesome
Amazing shop, I don't think there's many shops like this in the us, I wish i could work in a place like this but is hard to find.
As another person who is a self taught machinist/engineer I really enjoyed this video. The enthusiasm is infectious.
I was planning to expand my business this year but unfortunately I've lost confidence in my country and it's economy. The UK, I believe has permanently destroyed it's manufacturing base via the incredibly destructive brexit disaster and the double whammy covid 19 has brought. I'm very sad as I had planned on buying a VF6 and had been spending lots of time and energy preparing. Sad but I believe manufacturing here in the UK is now dead and gone. 😔
Geeezes, 2 hours of nerding...weeeeeee!!
clean shop
We had - I think - 10 Okuma Spacecenter milling centers in the GE machine shop before they shut us down to show potential investors that they were on top of the stock price situation.
I loved it
My wishes for the next shop tours: Donner-CNC and Kalpay!
Watching shop tours like these makes me so depressed. Those lathe capto holders look freaking amazing!
Capto is great, I dont have B-Y axis milling spindle lathe like that okuma. Almost all the tools we use are capto for the same reasons presented here.
An actual Tree/Plant in a machine shop what a concept! In the quest for mechanical perfection we ignore the perfection all around us and why all of this will eventually turn to dust
As someone who appreciates parallel lines and symmetry; The seem on his shirt is bugging the crap outta me!
Loved the tour, thanks to both of you!
nice red button on the multus. good air tool holder! or is it the emergency button?
Feature length shop tour!!
There's one unit of metric measurement that's used less than decimeter, the decameter.
You have to love german. Who doesn‘t likes to say ‚Gewindekernloch-Vorfertigungsdurchmesser‘ 58:20
Got it !
You should take a look over at reiger suspension! Very cool machines over there
Nice shop
Bad bedhead
He's an awesome dude. Helped me alot of the Autodesk forums.
Very nice shop he got. I can only dream about my shop getting that nice one day
I really really like that shop. Want to visit it one day if possible!
Curious on the ERP-integrated Tablets they showed, any hints on that?
could become handy.
Thanks.
It's Plan-De-CAMPagne ERP software they have the tablet stuff integrated into their solution and the tablets are just HP windows tablets.
okay one questions... do you still hate lathes? amazing tour. and it looks like a great place to work.
:)
Nice tour, John. Did we ever hear what model 5-axis mill they have? It was mentioned so much, I am curious!
It's a Doosan VC630/5AX we sadly couldn't show it as it was running a job that we didn't get clearance for to show.
Great shop, great video lots of money in the draws though
Could you please explain the difference between Doosan VCF and DVF series except for titling table orientation? Our local reps don't know...
Hello and thanks for the interview. I use Solidworks and are looking to use Solidcam as the cam software. Can you give me your opinion why you use Fusion versas use Solidcam that supposedly integrates right in solidworks and does true 5 axis with the multus?
Much appreciated LeRoy
That Little LB3000 😍
Laurens, what do you use for monitors for your workstation? We see the back of the large screen and I am super interested in what you choose for your setup!
Fyi the no go should make maximum of two full rotations and depending on the application you might want 1.5 so as to rotate easily on the threads while in use
14:20 this okuma a real beast
John. You should visit some of the casting companies in Germany. The setup in jura guss would make you wet yourself lol.
Really interesting, thanks for sharing these shop tours! But didn't you say you went to Hermle? Is there a tour video coming? What are you hiding from us, John? ;)
Hermle video is DONE - just awaiting approval to release!
@@nyccnc Awesome! Looking forward to that. I guess their PR department doesn't quite have the rapid feedrate of their machines... :) They're not too far from where I'm from, but their machines are a distant dream for a hobby machinist like me... still, there's so much to learn from seeing what's out there at the top end, and some of the tricks apply to small shops as well (like HSM).
I'd imagine the balancer has set screw compensation. Nice shop
The Wera tools are coincidentally in Sandvik colors. Wera produce tools normally in this color for electricians. I think what they do is leave off the insulation for Sandvik.
The wera/sandvik tools we have at work have a preset torque wrench function built in for inserts. Not sure if this is the same for all of their tools 😀
Nice shop . If anyone in Europe needs Sandvik coromant Capto C5 tooling , new, or used , I have aprox 100 pice and can't use them, whit SK40 taper to . Were cheap
adorei
NYC CNC and Lars Christensen publish at the exact same time. Who do I watch now? 😁
Both 😁😂😂
Aperantly you are watching this one. 😂
@@joni2oo look what Lars replied to the same comment on his video 😉
Uncommon Question : Do those carbide drills are re sharpened? Long drills ? Too? Stub Drills too ? Those must be very very calculated grinds from the Manufacturer , Great video though 🌸🌸
Great video. Mr. Wijnschenk is interesting and really excited with his work. Do they sell energy drinks in Europe?
I think that's a little more than an energy drink. More like 10.
@@xenonram I only had one coffee before we started this tour. 😂
@@laurenswijnschenk7032 Must have been a super vende. Nevertheless, I really enjoy your "joie de virve".
Where do you think RED BULL is made?😀
@@mehmettemel8725 Austria..
great shop Laurens, but were did u get that center on the Okuma multus? its a nice tool to have. I'm a machinist myself, i program on a Okuma LU 3000 ex and i love the OPS 300!
It's a Bruckner live center.
Fagor Control on that Lathe.. Fagor Rocks!.. I worked with one for years.. i'd love to work there.. it is just a bit too far every day..
Fagor is the cheapest controller out there
Wich motorbike has these footrests put on them, please?
The multi tools for the B axis spindle are called mini turret tools. www.sandvik.coromant.com/en-gb/products/coroplex_sl/pages/default.aspx
damn, their drop rack would be my metal candy store.
All I need is $2,360,255,000.00 and I can have all the toys, lol.
Just start with one!
Warning. Woodpecker .. I mean, metalpecker at 0:16
Great Jobbing Shop.
Very good choices Machine tool wise although that big twin spindle Okuma is a lot of machine waiting around for a 5mm end mill. That would have to be at least 1.5 million unless it was an ex demo that had been hanging around for a few years. One thing for sure when it comes to a multi role machine Okuma does it well.
I very much doubt that milling turret is 40 hp though. Maybe 5~7hp at most. Probably 40 all up.
Also no light curtains on the robot loaded machine? Very easy to integrate when that option is available.
The machine was brand new when we bought it. With some special 5-axis software.
I'm confused about your 40hp comment. Did I say something weird?
Just checked, the milling spindle on the Okuma Multus is 22kW. The live tooling on the LB indeed is far less powerful.
@@laurensschu Hi
First compliments on your English it is excellent. I thought you answered when questioned about the milling turret that it had 40 hp. I used to maintain CNC machine tools for over 25 years and just found that power rating a bit high. We had a 7 MA 550 {I think they were 550} 6 LAW-S an LC40 and a couple of MB 1000 {i think I don't remember the exact models}Okuma wise and Assorted Mazaks QT35, M4 and V8, Chiron DZ's and WM's Earlier Doosans that were labeled as Daewoos , Victors, Femcos, A couple of Dahlihs, a couple of Fadals, Takisawas and several others that escape me at the moment. Any way done a few sets of spindle bearing swaps on the MA centers and they had the Integral Spindle motor and bearings. They were much longer and probably bigger than the spindle than the Milling turret appeared? Those were only 15 HP. Those machines dated from the late 90's ~ early 2000's though. I do forget things move forward sometimes as it is 2019.
My complements on your shop and Machine choices all reliable well built equipment. No disrespect intended.
Cheers
wow
coffee at 7 then coffee at 9:30 sheesh. 1:46:50
Why do the doors have an extra hinge near the top at around the 2 minute mark? Is it because they're fire rated doors (heavy), because of the door closer at the top, or something else?
Good question. All the doors in this building and many buildings in the Netherlands have those now. But I have no idea why. In my own home there is just three hinges and not four.
