It is interesting that a lot of the factories you visit have Zeiss tools to measure. John if you are ever in Germany, Thuringia you should try to get into their Zeiss plant there. They have open house sometimes where you can go into every part of manufacturing.
I worked with machines running Cat40 holders for most of my career. I switched over to another shop with all older machines and everything in the place ran cat50 holders. Took 5 months of hand loading those cat50 holders into a machine at shoulder level and above; My right arm looks like Popeyes arm! Don't forget the weight that the big tools add to those holders.
Respect to this man for hand programming. I had not heard of pinch or balance turning. Really nice tour, obviously these guys know a ton and likely have little idea how fascinating their work is here.
Mari tools are top notch, it's pretty cool to see the shop. They make great end mills, that is how I came to know them initially also. Great customer service.
Great tour John. Thank you. Our bread and butter is CT - 50 tool holders (Le Blond Makino Verticals and Horizontal). Whenever I go to our Haas machines (VF-3 and VM-3) CT - 40, I have a little giggle, because they feel like tea cups. We also run a lot of TG 100 CT-50 Tool Holders/Collets.
Great tour John. It's terrific to see where these (and other) tools originate and the people/process behind them. Just not possible before YT and folks like you who have the enthusiasm and dedication.
Great factory tour (I also loved the Starrett tour as well and replayed several times). Cool seeing the Boxer and its dog bed in the factory. floor. Thank you for sharing the video.
I don't often get too see a machine I own in these factory tours. Just before and after the CMM, you can catch a glimpse of a Myford MG12 cylindrical grinder.
Great video John. Would love to see more about how the shop is organized. I find many of these shops have great simple organizing tools they use that can be applied to the smaller shops.
Such nice and competent guys and really awesome operation they have there. Thanks to them for inviting and you for making a really fun and interesting factory tour video.
chronok - Yeah man, how dare he be excited about his passion. Wait, how dare he be passionate about what excites him. Errr, ill figure this out... just hold on... give me some time to understand how you should react to something that would make you react a certain way, without reacting that way...
We should all chip in and buy him some new adjectives. I love his enthusiasm and passion but "insane" loses its value after 9 or 10 uses in the one video heheh.
Hey I think a really cool shop you would like/video is Grove Gear Or Union Grove Gear. If they would let you visit/Film I think they have like 2 or 3 foot ball fileds of Cnc'c, Mill's, And more.
19:53 Cat60 Dimensions, in case anyone's wondering. toolholderexchange.com/cat-tool-holders-cat40-cat50/ The largest diameter (the gripper arm), on a Cat40 is 2.5 Inches (~63mm). A Cat60 is 5.5 Inches (~140mm). "That's a huge bitch".
That Frank as he walks looks like a bloke I used to work with, we called him “two cartons”. Because he looked like he was carrying two cartons of beer under his arms when he walked. 😂🤪
Hmmm some room for integration in the balancing... Laser mark uniquely, then spin for imbalance, read laser mark and send with imbalance correction to drilling. Read laser mark at drilling and look up correction required.
Another great tour John thanks. Looks like they have forgiven you for suggesting their toolholder was out of round some time back? (before issuing an apologetic retraction video!). All great stuff keep up the good work.
Curling 50 tapers every day! Really builds up your shoulder muscles loading tools into a vertical all the time. Get a big setscrew or mill chuck with a big ol' chunk of carbide and it has to weigh 30+ pounds.
Hahaha, I am going into this video remembering all the scenes from orange vice co's video of the place and you totally cut one of their clips into your video!! It was really surreal to start finding all the things from your video tour of the lab in person, it really doesn't convey that all those shots are spread across many many buildings. Its a trip.
The video for my factory would be a fairly short one:-) This was a good one. Always facinating to see how these things come together and how people approach the challenge.
*shows off what is probably a $50k measuring machine for measuring concentricity of a taper* *pans around to guy with an indicator checking concentricity with inner bore* Just a little humor. Cheers. :)
John needs to see some 6 or 8 spindle Acmes to witness some real production! They wouldn't be used for the MariTool products but when you see 10 tools cutting at once then you'll know metal removal... My B&S 00G make s a part that has 3 tool cutting at once and there's less than .01 clearance between the tools when they're cutting. In fact, if you jog the machine they'll contact one another... part in 3.5 seconds....
I doubt he will ever do, he would need to change the adjectives (Cool, Awesome, Insane, Holy Cow, Wow) for superlatives that have not been added to the language yet and he would use them so much, nobody else would be able to talk :-). I am sure he is still amazed by what the trade can give and what he has learned in all this time and explain it to the audience that is not so exposed like me but eager to learn. I am sure he can and he is a nice guy.
I noted that too. Operator door safety interlocks are not a huge concern oddly. Neither are safety glasses. Their insurance underwriter would birth a calf if he saw that.
I'm a bit surprised the balancing comes down to visually lining the tool up and putting a sharpie mark on it and then hand writing a note about what it needs. Really seems that operation and the machining called for by the balancer could be integrated and make for a more efficient workflow.
the first macine we have at my work a smaller verzion and to lathe turents instead of a milling head same brand same controller it is a unstoppable workhorse 5000 parts a day no problem
stop at 5:59 the thicker (vast XXT) part of that carl zeiss AHAHAHAH it's very familiar to me and the inside frame of that thing is also very familiar to me
You can tell Frank programmed and set up these because he knows exactly when to close the door lol.
Another great tour John
Impressive to see it being done right.
Thanks to Maritool and John for a great look inside a real classy operation.
It is interesting that a lot of the factories you visit have Zeiss tools to measure. John if you are ever in Germany, Thuringia you should try to get into their Zeiss plant there. They have open house sometimes where you can go into every part of manufacturing.
One of the best / highly regarded lens brands on the market.
Thank you Mari and NYC CNC for putting this on YT
Now I see how machinist can drive in a rain storm full speed
Yes! Finally another factory tour!
American craftsmanship at its finest
yes, but with all foreign machine tools......good book to read "When the Machine Stopped" by Max Holland
Drool time tool time. What a magnificent cluster of machines. Thanks for taking the time to do the walk through and upload it, just awesome.
Great tour, thanks John!

INSANE! Just so big!
Great tour John. It's terrific to see where these (and other) tools originate and the people/process behind them. Just not possible before YT and folks like you who have the enthusiasm and dedication.
Great to hang out with Mari and crew...I only wish we heard more about their future products!
I’ve never seen machines like these...nuts. It’s amazing what these things are capable of doing!
Great video, John. Frank and Tom make a fine product that’s a joy to use.
Never clicked so fast. Another Factory Tour!!!!!!!
Wait till you meet This old Tony fan, then you will see a fast clicking.
Great products. I use Maritool holders and collets exclusively at my shop. Thanks for the tour!
Love the Duramax CMM. Very capable little CMM.
Great factory tour (I also loved the Starrett tour as well and replayed several times). Cool seeing the Boxer and its dog bed in the factory. floor. Thank you for sharing the video.
Yes! A new tour video. Love it
Oh hey, we have that same Zeiss CMM at our school. Pretty neat machine.
I don't often get too see a machine I own in these factory tours. Just before and after the CMM, you can catch a glimpse of a Myford MG12 cylindrical grinder.
Hi John, love the factory tours, love the enthusiasm. Keep them coming!!
thanks!
Great video John. Would love to see more about how the shop is organized. I find many of these shops have great simple organizing tools they use that can be applied to the smaller shops.
Another great factory tour. Cheers John and the MariTool team!
Such nice and competent guys and really awesome operation they have there. Thanks to them for inviting and you for making a really fun and interesting factory tour video.
Very Cool, Thanks, John and MariTool for a peak at your shop! Programming must take a bit of practice .050 " clearance is Clearance ohhh boy!
Thanks John for another great tour.
I’m a little late to the party, but you have to respect a owner who knows every aspect of the process
Whenever they open a machine to expose the turrets it is so exciting. Maybe your next widget should be a magnetic mount window coolent wiper!
Yup, a spinning glass disc is the best for visibility and virtually maintenance free :)
An idea for an insane drinking game... Every time John says "insane" you take a shot. Spoiler, you'll be drunk 2:30 into the video.
Andrew Delashaw Holy cow!
I love John's enthusiasm. Makes me smile.
Haha! I was thinking the same thing about "oh my God" and "holy cow".
chronok - Yeah man, how dare he be excited about his passion.
We have all MariTool holders for our DT1 (bt30). Great affordable toolholders.
Insaaaane in the membranneee....insane in the brain!
Hey I think a really cool shop you would like/video is Grove Gear Or Union Grove Gear. If they would let you visit/Film I think they have like 2 or 3 foot ball fileds of Cnc'c, Mill's, And more.
I've made up my mind to go BT30 on my machine build, and will hopefully buy from Frank soon.
That's it I'm sold! Ordering a full set this week....
Excellent tour. Thank You Matt C.
Very impressive. Thanks John for this great factory tour!
Thank you so much for all these tours your are doing! Love them so much!
John being amazed for 30 minutes
awesome video john...
Such a great tour. Thanks for sharing, John.
Awesome! Thanks John! That dog is adorable :3
Thanks you John, Very interesting, Greeting from Canada
Nice. I'm going to look into some Maritool holders.
Baily approves of their pet bed!! I didn't know they made tool holders smaller than Cat50. :-) lol
Can't wait to see what you do with that Cincinnati :)
LOL!
Large parts are less difficult to balance than small parts because natural variations in density of the material average out over a greater volume.
19:53 Cat60 Dimensions, in case anyone's wondering. toolholderexchange.com/cat-tool-holders-cat40-cat50/

That was awesome John. Thats an amazing 1st class operation. 👍
Great job! Regards from Colombia and thanks for the tour
Another great tour, I'm a big fan of mari toolholders. It was fun to see how they are made. Keep up the good work. I enjoy your vids.👍👍
That Frank as he walks looks like a bloke I used to work with, we called him “two cartons”. Because he looked like he was carrying two cartons of beer under his arms when he walked. 😂🤪
great video- wondered how my iso30 chucks were made and balanced!
Shop tour! Yay!
Hmmm some room for integration in the balancing... Laser mark uniquely, then spin for imbalance, read laser mark and send with imbalance correction to drilling. Read laser mark at drilling and look up correction required.
Hey John! you just gave MariTool some of my business haha very good company
Awesome tour! Definitely learned some new things.
One super smart dude !!
Those cnc machines are the baddest man... i really like cnc style machines.
I love shooting myself in the face!!
I know Tom...i know they bad ass dude...but stop letting them put sheet rock and windows around them and make them use their heads
Excellent video! Thanks!
Best factory tour video ever !! Well done !! Great quality company too !!
That was impressive. I am not familiar with their product. Very enjoyable, thanks.
I guess they only have their shirts made in extra small. Awesome guys though and very cool equipment.
Awesome! I love these videos! Definitely going to get some Maritool when I get my ATC spindle!
That reaction when buddy finds out the whole world doesn't use CAM software lol
nicely done.
Very informative... thanks John
Another great tour John thanks. Looks like they have forgiven you for suggesting their toolholder was out of round some time back? (before issuing an apologetic retraction video!). All great stuff keep up the good work.

That's pretty cool don't let OSHA see them running with the doors open
The video for my factory would be a fairly short one:-)
This was a good one. Always facinating to see how these things come together and how people approach the challenge.
Great video! Funny how he is pointing in the machine at 15:21, exactly how the sticker at 15:26 is telling him not to :)
*shows off what is probably a $50k measuring machine for measuring concentricity of a taper*
*pans around to guy with an indicator checking concentricity with inner bore*
Just a little humor. Cheers. :)
tiger12506 obviously they don’t take their quality department seriously.
👨💻 TechPorn 🤪 you can,t sleep🥺 when these pop up in youtube 😳👍 🕺🐨straya! i- luv this stuff- is don is good!

When you're a machinist in austria it feels weird to see a machine running with an open enclosure.
I noted that too. Operator door safety interlocks are not a huge concern oddly. Neither are safety glasses. Their insurance underwriter would birth a calf if he saw that.
Noticed it too
Incredible! Thanks for sharing. You must have said "That's insane!" a hundred times. LOL
I'm a bit surprised the balancing comes down to visually lining the tool up and putting a sharpie mark on it and then hand writing a note about what it needs. Really seems that operation and the machining called for by the balancer could be integrated and make for a more efficient workflow.
Maritool. Awesome! Shop dog...Ultra Awesome.
No safety glasses? Nice tour john.
looks like a chore to get the stock from where its stored to the bar feeders
I work almost exclusevly with CAT 50 and Captro C4 all the way up to C10. Capto C10 are trully a monster tool holders
Awesome machines, great tour, very cool products , curious how long it will before SMW gets one of those multi axis Mill/Turn machines? :)
have you seen the HSK160 tapers? they're the size of a cake, run on 200kw spindles
Cool video.
You should've seen ISO80 tapers. Now those are big.
Wow Frank put your arms down lol
they should install some sort of window wipers :D
the first macine we have at my work a smaller verzion and to lathe turents instead of a milling head
same brand same controller it is a unstoppable workhorse 5000 parts a day no problem
Another great video. By any chance do you know the name of the software they use for the inventory?
HELL yes
How does the grinding machine compensate for wheel wear after dressing
stop at 5:59 the thicker (vast XXT) part of that carl zeiss AHAHAHAH it's very familiar to me and the inside frame of that thing is also very familiar to me
Red hankie on the left side of his jeans. This guy is serious about holes.
Why didn't the Zoller tool print the label?
Interesting factory and machines. Pity that everything is "Cool", "Awesome" "Insane" or "Holy Cow" though.
(card missing at 22:52 - Starrett Factory Tour! - ( T7JqXbm-Nwo ))
