- Stefan Gotteswinter is a full time prototype cnc machinist by day and manual manufacturing entrepreneur by night. This 6'7" German lives and breathes machining. I first met Stefan at EMO and now I finally get to see his shop! He is the absolute king of nift and getting the most out of his machines. The delicate and precise work he is able to with MANUAL machines blows me away! Come have some laughs with us at his home shop in the quaint town of Beratzhausen, Germany where Stefan's talent, skill, and passion shines through.

I'm a bit disappointed with the video length, it should have been longer!!!
I love to watch Stefan, his attention to detail is on another level and he slips lots of jokes into his commentary, What more could anyone ask for. He's an inspiration to machinists everywhere.

While I can appreciate and respect John Saunders evolution and ongoing success, Stefan is my favorite "go to" home shop machinist guru. Such an uncompromising perfectionist. To be fair, TOT gets the nod for the entertainment and educational double header.

Stefan is so bright his doesn't need to light his shop, only for visitors. HAHA
For anyone curious, Grade 23 Titanium is also referred to as ELI (Extra Low Interstitial). Grade 5 Titanium (Ti-6Al4V) is the most common machining grade of titanium, containing 6% aluminum, 4% Vanadium, and trace amounts of other elements like iron, oxygen, etc. Grade 23 is the exact same formulation, but with a much tighter tolerance on the allowable amounts of those other trace elements which are referred to as interstitials, hence the name. If you've ever broken a bone and had a screw or a plate put in that was made out of Titanium, there's a very good chance it was grade 23. Loved the tour!

All I can say is that I spend many evenings watching and listening Stefan’s “teaching classes” on his YT channel.
Joy,technical knolege,refined sens of humor,finesse are fighting to be first that bursts into my mind tring to describe him.

I have watched this video so many times. I know Stefan has moved shops and upgraded much of this equipment now. However, to me this video is a perfect demonstration of what a master can do with "less than optimal" tools. Stefan is legit my hero. I aspire to be like him, he motivates me, inspires me, and makes me believe i can also do great things.
This was such a great video, would like it 10x if I could. Stefan is a giant not only in the literal sense, but more importantly, in how willing he is to share his high-end knowledge with the world, with humor and humility. Learned so much from him. Thank you John for this video.

You know what I really like about these videos tours, you all are really just talking about the work, and it is really helpful for a non-machinist to grasp the subject matter. I really do enjoy watching them.

Probably the most interesting tour you have ever made john, rather than masive industry shop tours on the most up to date machines only accessible by a few, this down to earth guy shows what can be done in a small basement shop with modest machines, good tooling and a lot of knowledge. You can see hi is really tuned in to what he likes and does. We need more videos like this. I for one would be gratefull
Greetings from the Tyrol / Austria.. Stefan is one of the main reasons we'll and this old Tony, and Joe Pieczynski, why I started with metal machining from zero years ago. Now I've a workshop with every common manual machine and even CNC. I've learned a lot from him he's a great teacher and my first Adress if I don't know any more what to do I look if he has some content about it. I can listen to him talking about machining for hours.🤔😊He also influenced me doing scraping and learn it properly and I think he's a very nice guy with very little time 😁 I wish him all the best and keep on doing such amazing stuff. Stefan rocks 👍👍👍

Same here! He is as tall as I am, I don't know how he can handle such small work, I would be frustrated in no time! I now work with wire EDM but have worked with milling machines in the past, a haas VF-5 fits like a glove to me, to give some sense of scale.
Love these vids. People who love what they do and geek out explaining the awesome ideas they have to make the machines reliable and more accurate. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Stefan definitely gets a lot out of his workspace. Some of us like to work on parts that need a crane to move while others like ones you use tweezers for. It takes all kinds and I enjoy seeing it all!

I think this variety is great, it's in fact splendid. There's so, so, so much to learn and see and the fact that it's all here on RUclips from Stefan's tweezers to your gigantic lathe, is nothing short of amazing.
I get it: A tweezers is just a very small crane.
Or a crane is just a very large tweezers.
Dang it,,Stefan's shop is so well organized and clean, I am going to make 2022 resolution be to clean up our shop and be more organized for sure. But taller ceiling, and over head crane like you have and ours back in Ohio would be nice. (@@)! Happy New year Brian,, Bear.

Superb ! I like these visits to other people’s shops that you are doing John , it sort of shows a more personal side to the people that i watch on youtube . What i really like is there is someone in their shop asking questions and you can hear the enthusiasm and excitement in their voices as they show you around their shop - to me it sort of adds another dimension to theirs and your channel.

Just watched Stefan's and TACrafted's home shop tours, almost the same layout, perfectly arranged and organized shops. I think the German discipline is like this. Amazing guys. Many thanks John.

Wow, what an experience, I just had to watch the whole video twice to take in all the tricks and get some ideas for my workshop.
One thing I picked up on and that was it confirmed a suspicion I had some years ago but thought I was on the wrong track.....and that is having carbide with sharp cutting edges as opposed to the top chip breaker design and dull edges on inserts you buy commercially.
I also noted the bandsaw table and how it was mounted..........simply a piece of steel plate attached to a crossbeam on the bottom at the back.
It was awe inspiring to see the very large bandsaw blade and the coarseness of the teeth......that is some metal hewing machine, beats a power hacksaw any day.
I was among Stefan's first 500 subscribers, really love what he is doing.
It was great to see Stefan's shop, although I have seen enough of his videos to get the idea.
But really enjoyed seeing him explain what he has.

This is a million times more interesting than watching CNC machines moving around... Real machining, real skill.
Thanks for sharing. I love seeing the storage solutions the folks in Germany are using and the work they are turning out of a relatively small work area.
On cameras, I have often wondered why more folks dont ditch the DSLRs and go to mirrorless cameras.
I need to do a version of this, but with the brutally honest review of my "mini" shop. Most of my tooling was made with a chain saw and a dull sense of humor, and I was blind folded at the time! Measurements start at "how many little lines is that?"
