    Thanks very much for this! A word of caution...don't press too hard on that adjusting screw, or lever it to the side, since the little box (technical term) that it's on is not actually connected to the circuit board, only the electrical connections on the far side, and it's easy to bend the whole thing upward. Mine bent back easily without breaking, but be gentle and you won't get there in the first place.

    Finally got around to doing this and it's made a huge difference, particularly to the quantised mode that I previously had to set to a strange location on the "semi" slider. Now it makes sense with both sliders set to the bottom and the correct notes playing from a sequencer/keyboard. It's well worth doing this - it isn't too difficult and it might make you appreciate this cracking little module a bit more.

    Word of caution though, if you get into a tuning mode accidentally, do not move the sliders around. power cycle the thing to reset it or the tune will be totally our of whack. I threw the quantized scale way out and it's been a bear to bet it back. (the fine tune is in a very narrow range for it and it seems to move depending on where you set. even to the point where the A never appears in it). Its worth the trouble though 'cause this thing is awesome. fantastic VCO!

      My module is now completely all over the place tuning wise... it plays 6 octaves over 2 on my Keystep, I tried for hours but no can do. Can I ask how you ended up getting yours back at normal?

    • @Westfalon
      @Westfalon 4 года назад

      @@lark.berlin My issue was with the quantized mode shifting around and that was fixed by purposely pushing slider very far sharp or flat and running the tune cycle to shift the tuning range. Your issue sounds more like a problem with the scale calibration which is controlled by the little trimmer on the back. The video does go pretty in depth on how to tune that but there are some missing details. The trimmer takes 30 turns to go from max to min so it might just be a matter of just turning it a whole lot more. (the screw won't stop when it's bottomed out, but it will click very faintly) The module will also act funny if you touch the circuit board at all while tuning so be mindful of that. Otherwise It's likely just a matter of cranking it all the way down and starting from the very bottom and tuning back to middle A.

      @@Westfalon big thanks for the help. My problem seems to be on the unquantized tuning: no matter what i do, i can get back to the A110. And the next octave skips to above 1800... I've tried almost everything at this point. Dreadbox support has been kind enough to get back to me, but that didn't help me much. But hey! I'll keep trying more! I loved the module for the time it worked (it was slightly out of tune when I received it tho)

    • @Westfalon
      @Westfalon 4 года назад

      @@lark.berlin yea, their support is very fast and helpful but in the ends aren't the engineers who made it. This module tunes similarly to a CEM-3340 (possibly finding a tutorial for tuning one of those may help. LookMumNoComputer has one I believe). If that's anything to go by it sounds like it's stuck at the very top of its travel so just cranking it clockwise a bunch would be a good starting point. counting 30 full turns would be safe in case the trimmer's clicks cant be heard. And making sure that the same power supply is being used for tuning and use is also a good idea. apparently that's what throws them out in the first place. I any case I wish you luck! and if it still doesn't work, ping me and I can see about putting up a tutorial for this specific issue

      @@Westfalon Just a quick update on this. I should really make sure that I properly use my other equipments before blaming a nice small company like Dreadbox: My Keystep was on Hz/oct the whole time... was obviously sending the wrong voltages to the module. so yeah, very stupid of me. This VCO is great! And thanks for your help

    Thanks for the vid. It was very helpful, but I still can't tune my Hysteria properly.
    I've been through the procedure several times, but at the end of the quantize mode setting, the lower octave starts with an A (at bottom of the Semi slider), whilst the following octaves starts with C. I'm sure doing something wrong...any idea what that is?
    Thanks

  • @angstrom

    Is your Hysteria MK1 quantised mode horribly out? Can't get anywhere near to "A" with the semitone slider?
    Here's how to fix it: unplug all cables as instructed, except for the main out. Now put the semi slider in the middle position. Go into Quantise Recalibrate mode with the long press. Now if the first octave is off A you might find that the slider can't even reach A, You might find it only goes from C to F#, So move it TOWARDS A ... just use what travel you have on the slider to get CLOSER to A. So perhaps that means F#. Now, go to the next octave and if you have enough travel to adjust that octave then do it - but if not then IGNORE IT and just tap the Q button until you exit calibration. Now, reset the semi slider back to the middle and go again. This time you might be able to move the first Octave from F# to A. Now move to the next octave, if you cant reach A again - Ignore it, and skip to exit calibration. Repeat this process for each octave (resetting the Semi slider each time you exit)

    What happens if I hit the A note and it is nowhere close to A (somewhere between E and F and cannot set it up with either the siders or the screw)? I cannot figure it out how to put it back in tune, but I have no clue how it went out of tune either. I really like the sound of Hysteria, but this tuning totally kills the vibe. Also it goes out of tune way too many times.

    • @Dreadbox-synths

      Hi, for manual tuning you need to hold quantize button for 3 seconds. Autotuning process can be achieved by holding the quantize button for at least 6 seconds. I think you hold it for less than 6 seconds and you enter in manual tuning mode. I hope that helps ;)

    probably too late to ask but I'm confused..if the out of tune is due to power differences...how can you tune it independently of all the other items in the rack?

      ..that's a far question I think he is just doing it by itself to make it simple (that's what he said in the beginning of this video..).. I am sure you would want to have it in the rack or case you are using with everything on and flashing ..

    As much as I enjoyed this video I am becoming more and more frustrated with this module. I have it tuned to perfection in analog tuning and it tracks perfectly with pitch from an external source (keyboard or sequencer) however with Quantize on it just won't track. There's always about 13 cents off from the lowest to the highest C when I move the Semi slider.

      Why worry about it? The only differences are cost of manufacture and time spent soldering.
