The dead giveaway was the soot from gas fumes around filler neck and gas door.
I replaced gas caps on 2 of my vehicles (Ranger and Escape) with Motorcraft and problem returned 4 years later.
Replaced both with gas caps from Advance Auto Parts Carquest Premium Fuel Cap: 10832, Provides Tight Seal, worked better than the Motorcraft and the P0455 went away after a few drive cycles.

It's NEVER NEVER NEVER the gas cap. Nor is it the evap can or the solenoid valve. It's usually one of the numerous hoses. Once they dry out, a pinhole will develop and that's all it takes to pop those codes.

Thanks for this. Same issue on my 2003 mazda truck. Replaced gas cap and fuel cap warning light went out but p0457 code still shows up on scanner. Sounds like just need to complete another drive cycle to clear it.
One question, does the evap drive cycle have to be done after a cold start (say after sitting for 8 hours)?
