  • TEAM SGG PATREON / somegadgetguy Pixel 6 Pro vs XPERIA Pro-I vs Vivo X70 Pro+! Three phones with VERY different photo vibes. It's exciting to compare these solutions as they have similar main sensors. Some of the biggest photo solutions that still fit in your pocket, but once we compare the sensor size, we see that's about the only thing these phones share.
    Google, Sony, and Vivo. If YOU were shopping a premium or professional tier phone, which camera vibe would be the right fit for you?

    I'm on the Xperia train baby! Headphone jack, Expandable slot & Shutter button are all a win for me. The variable aperture is freaking killer too. What else is great is that the other phones are binning down from a 50mpx where as the xperia is shooting 12mpx and producing the same (in some cases better) quality photos. The Vivo does look super promising and would definitely be a consideration over the pixel but getting a hold of one seems like a much harder task than the others. I really dislike the computational stuff the pixel 6 is doing to the photos. Sure it results in some good shots but many times it looks way too fake and fuddly.

    This is a great video, thanks for making it. Another framing question for the choice that I've been asking myself, and that this video helped answer, is "what sort of user do I WANT to be?" I have a Note 20 Ultra, and it takes great pictures, but I don't take nearly enough pictures with it. The process is so whip-it-out-and-bam that I feel actively uninspired to take photos. I took way more pictures on my RX100 ii (that I got rid of because I just never had it on me) because I loved the "let's frame up a good shot right here" mindset I entered with a tool like that. I also loved coming back to the photos and seeing how I could tweak them in post to make them shine. This video proved to me that the Xperia Pro-I is for me, though a real photographer I am not. I pre-ordered the phone minutes after watching. Thanks again.

      I got the Xperia Pro-I and have had it for a week now, no regrets. I've taken more photos in this week that I did in a year with the Note 20 Ultra. It's that engaging from an experience perspective.

    • @JonSwansonE
      @JonSwansonE 2 года назад

      @@theLGI93 I'm not going to try to talk you out of your purchase, seems like you're happy with it. As far as what the Xperia offers beyond the camera experience (which was the main thing for me), it's a much more grown up version of Android than what Samsung offers. It's very snappy and clean, not the cartoony nonsense you have to deal with from Samsung. Honestly I like 11 better than 12 too, feels more sophisticated. The phone's physical design is really sophisticated too. Picked up the Note after 5 days with the Sony and felt like I was playing with a toy. I don't make that comparison lightly, the Note used to be my choice for best Android phone design until I got this chunky boi. That screen is great too. By some objective measures (like brightness) it's worse than the Note 20 Ultra screen, but it really works for me. Watching cinematic video on it is CRAZY. Arcane, in particular, is almost more fun to watch on my phone than on my LG OLED TV. Reading internet content and browsing social media are both great with the extra length too. Battery life is the same as the Note when new, which is plenty.

    I really like your take on camera evaluation. One thing that really bugs me about some review sites is that they came up with a set of comparison photos back when phone cameras struggled with even basic daylight photos, and they have never updated. They never bother with trying to take action photos because no camera back then could do it. They don't test focus ability because every phone back then had such a small sensor that everything was always in focus. I think it's time that they get their act together like your videos. I'm shooting with a Nikon D300s (a camera released in ~2007) and it still blows all of these phones out of the water + you can buy a used D300 with a lens for about 300$ right now. Thank you for this most excellent and well thought out review. Do you plan one comparing the video output of these devices? Also, all your examples are excellent and super well explained. But I think it was the Pixel shot of your area at night, where for my eye, the digital sharpening made it an unpleasant photo, even if it got the colours right in the tree. Small point though. Otherwise, every observation of yours was really useful and insightful.

    That final night time shot from the Vivo is RIDICULOUS. Just beyond brilliant.
    That said, I agree with you. If the 6 Pro was available in my region- and if I could afford it, I'd likely gravitate towards it. I'd still salivate at the prospect of the Vivo, but I don't think I'd use all its features as they should be used.

      Is it though? That shot from Vivo resembles nothing close to real life, as Juan himself said that the location itself is super dark. Seems like a weird way to judge a camera, praising it for spitting out an image that is not representative of the actual scene. To each his own, i suppose.

      @@SupremelyBX I could take the same night shot the VIVO did (last picture) with a PRO-I/1iii/1ii/5ii/5iii. Will have to use the photo pro app and complete manual settings with a tripod. The RAW image and details that will be acquired that way by Sony is insane. Then can soften up the image with lightroom and get exactly same or even better photo than the VIVO.
      Catch is, VIVO does it handheld.
      So for those who don't know how to use a camera to get what kind of shot they want VIVO wins their money.

    Outstanding work, as always, so that it's the kind of production I know I'll enjoy independently from the subject (the phones), & want to highlight the unseen courage, certainly motivated by passion & other things, causing the existence of such unprofitable video: tremendous & dedicated effort, for little outcome, in term of views/recognition as much as $$$$ly.
    In some ways, I see here what I could've ended up achieving my way, yet failed to deliver by not having the courage or whatever else that blocked me so far anyway, but that allowed me to be part of this community, able to focus on the non-normie aspect of it, paying attention to what I believe deserves it while most ppl just won't, which I think can be frustrating; that's why I'm glad to be here & see you as well, keeping the great stuff up, albeit the hard times we're facing, in several ways.

For me personally, I’d love to get my hands on the Vivo X70 Pro+.
