- TEAM SGG PATREON / somegadgetguy Pixel 6 Pro REVIEW! This phone is an incredible fresh start for Google. New design. New OS. New UI. New Camera. New SOC. There's no part of this phone which feels like a holdover from the last generation of Pixel phones. That brings some teething pains, but the launch has been surprisingly smooth. We can absolutely discuss some pros and cons, but we should also hit ALL phones with the same early reviewer energy, right? Allow me to play apologist for some early bugs, because I like where this might be going...

Hey all! I really want to treat this video as an AMA. This is NOT "the final word". Let's consider this the place to start some ON GOING conversations about where Google might go with this phone. I'm PURPOSELY not trying to make this a "comprehensive" review, because we SHOULD ask questions and examine further.👍
Btw. I hope sony patches the 12 already. The 11 kinda sucks I regret updating into it
I liked the fact that you hit on that this is a PHONE first. Reviewer forget that, and fail to talk about the call quality, mics, sound. I can't call 911 from the cameras. And if you are buying ANY PHONE for the cameras. You are buying it for the wrong reason. Thank you for pointing that out.
Ready for the journey with my Pixel 6 "Plus/XL/Ultra" in tow! Let's go!
I'm along for the ride with my Pixel 6. There's so much more to come. It's going to be fun to see how it develops.
❤️🎯
Always so much good detail and info not found anywhere else besides your channel. You are the best brother. Cheers.
For the large bubbles and lower content density, you can increase the DPI in developer setting and increase the font size to get more stuff fit in the same screen area.
Juan is coming at us with creamy B-Roll this time. Looks really good and appreciate the in depth commentary on it.
I'd bet my middle nut it's footage from a phone
@@TheTheShizzler I would say it’s a mix of phone and dslr
@@GeetMadan and we can't even tell the difference if that were the case. Amazing
Finon carbon material case. I never use no phone without a case
Been waiting for this. Glad this is just a conversation starter and not the "final" word.
Talk about being cranky, I was going nuts till earlier this week when I didn't get my weekly dose of SGGQA last week and this one. But finally God smiled and said "let there be snarkiness in the world".
Juan Bagnell, you are a Gatorade in my subscription feed.
😄
always the best when it comes to tech vids. cant wait to see more videos on the pixel 6 pro
Absolutely love the device and can't wait to see how it will improve with future software updates
❤️🎯
Great video. Also came for the Last Exit t shirt and was not disappointed to see the Delta City one!
I'd buy that for a dollar!
Awesome as always. Bonus that RUclips ACTUALLY notified me. Keep up the fantastic work. All the way from lil ole New Zealand 🇳🇿
WOOT WOOT!
Great comment on how Google regularly updates their devices aside from OTA stuff. People forget their phones actually get better with time. It makes me excited for what’s in-store for the Pixel 6
Fantastic video. Your insight is a cut above the competition. Your videos are funnier too! Thank you!
I been waiting for this review 🙌🏿🙏🏼
When he says Sam Apple I start dying laughing because it's been too many people that have been picking apart the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro so hard but they do not do the same thing for any Apple or Samsung device
I agree
Awesome video Juan, I think an update or two and the cameras will tighten up. Overall they are solid.
I really enjoyed your review and take on this device.
AFTER HOURS, OF WATCHING, plagiarized reviews with no thought in them, I found your channel. Very nice to see an actual, well thought out review. Thanks you the time you put into it. You have earned my "hit the Subscribe button ". Look for to other videos.
Always coming with the best reviews. I can't wait to get mine . However I heard they are on back order til January.
As usual Juan... Love your work. Appreciate you. Keep doing what you do!
I think the Spigen Tough Armor case for the 6 pro covers that little bit of glass that he was talking about.
Thank You Juan for another awesome and very informative video. I really enjoy your take on mobile tech.
Just for the intro of this video, I'm subscribing. Love when people keep it real!
I really enjoy your videos. I've heard a lot of shade being thrown on the new 6s that I think is undeserved. I've had my 6 for a couple weeks now. The size and weight have taken some getting used to (coming from a 5a), but it's definitely growing on me. With everything so new (new sensors, new chip, new software, new design) there are bound to be some growing pains. Like you said, this is just the beginning, and I, for one, am very excited to see what comes next. Keep up the great work!
I had a good chuckle about the Nova Launcher thing. I've been feeling the same exact way 😂😂😂. And coming from the V60 it is an adjustment.
When you get it, you get. I feel the promise and appreciate the potential.
Top job... a pleasure to watch!
I Like your approach to this review. Its not a conclusion on pixel 6 because it just came out and everything about it is new. I see it exactly the same way. I've enjoyed my ownership of my pixel 4xl the past two years. It got better and faster through software updates. I'm sure google is just getting started when it comes to the pixel 6 and its brand new soc and cameras. Exciting to see what its like in a few more updates.
It would be cool if you could do a video on a revisit of the pixel 4xl today in 2021. How it performs today on android 12 and how it stacks up in comparison to newer phones like the pixel 5 and others
Appreciate your work in the youtube tech spectrum. Its a breath of fresh air. Pls always be you Juan.. Your a real one!
"Take a drink every time I fail to hold back the snark" I didn't want to get wasted today but here we go...
Lmfaoooo I read the last part like "Ahhhh shit here we go again" like that GTA Meme 🤣
THANK YOU for the snarky bits 😂 I felt so heard. Also shoutout for using powerdirector!
Awesome content. Love the honesty.
Thank you for talking about the density! I hate that we don't get the option to pick these things anymore
I like your video. I have a Pixel 6 Pro that I bought earlier this week. It works great for me now as I still have other things to learn about it and about Android 12. It replaced my Samsung Galaxy S9+.
I'm watching and posting a minute in. Now Playing finally works! Order up a music search on lock screen and the Tensor chip will remember that tune the next time it hears it. I listen to tons of internet radio and that's fun AF.
We can always rely on Juan to tell it like it is. I am enjoying my Pixel 6. I could complain about some things but it's been out for a week. There is nothing going on that is "ruining my experience" as some would have you believe. I'll be along for the ride. At $599, it's refreshing to not drop $1k on a phone and get an experience as good as this.
Just got through setting up my 6 pro - and luvin it (sorta black) ✌🏻
Congrats on the new phone!
Nice review. Good job. Keep them coming.
Great video dude, absolutely loved it! You’re 100% on the android 12 comments.
Wow that's cool,great review as always.👍
The only thing I don't like about the notification shade is that the wifi and data switches are bundled together.
BTW, I'm also rocking a 3a (XL) on Android 12. Loving it.
I actually enjoy this design decision. If I want too adjust data settings I click internet
You've got to love the approach for this review ,different ,unique and spot-on. And doesn't start with comparing with the f.. iPhone. Love the phone, but too many bugs, fingerprint is a joke I hope the bring Face unlock. But we can be sure with updates the phone's going to be great.
Just loving how you approached this review.. none of the lazy takes experienced from some of the other RUclipsrs
You are best.. thanks for video
I can highly recommend the Dbrand skins for the camera bar. Ended up adding one for mine when I decided to color-match the camera bar to the rest of the phone. Try to get it with other things instead of by itself though, because their shipping cost is ludicrous if you don't hit their 25-dollar benchmark for free shipping.
Excellent vid as always.
The best pixel 6 pro review on RUclips actually saying things u need to hear love the video man most RUclipsrs saying the same thing over and over.
Investment is the only road to riches. You should try to maximize return only if losses would not threaten your survival and if you have a compelling future need for the extra gains you might earn.”
I'm so happy ☺️ my life is totally changed. I've been earning $10,250 returns from my $4,000 Investment every 13 days
I'm getting mine Wednesday. Really hope the battery charge thing doesn't make me regret it lol
Enjoyed the realistic review with all the practical observations having also purchased the Pixel 6 Pro. In terms of cases I have tried five including Googles case, Caseology and Spigen and find the most practical to neutralise the camera bump is the Spigen Tough Armour. This totally protects the camera visor and creates a flat back to the phone. Also provides a kick stand and decent protection albeit with a slight increase in bulk.
In this video and the recent one kn sensor sizes you alo raise some good points about Megapixels and sensor sizes given the trend is for binning down to 12MP.
I was slightly disappointed that the Pixel 6 Pro did not have the native resolution available as an option.
I gotta try that Spigen fer sure. I also ordered the moment case to see if lens optics work well.
As for the camera I think it's TOTALLY FAIR to be annoyed by 50MP marketing, but I hope folks will keep in perspective what these sensors are designed to do.
Man, as always, top notch analytics!
you mean, top hole punch analysis? xD /s I'll see myself out :P
I think The Lew later case covers the camera glass , hello Juan 👋🙂
Double check your charging times with adaptive chargng turned off. They tuned it by default to only charge as fast as needed to be fully charged based on your alarm time. If you turn adaptive charging off it charges pretty quick on a Samsung 25W "super fast charger" or the official Google 30 watt charger.
Moving from my 4xl which I loved! , I'm still undecided if the 6pro is a true upgrade, well see in a few months I suppose
Unintentional Shatner lol, Juan is the best. Great video .
I got REAL cornball there 😁
@@SomeGadgetGuy loved it
I'd be curious what's the current state of phone call Ai Google is bringing to the table. I remember they were talking about how they could call and schedule a hair appointment for you. Does that work? How do they handle spam? I heard I can tell it to wait on hold for me while I call comcast to complain about my internet. That alone might get me to switch from my Galaxy S10.
In regards to the battery charging speed, one thing I noticed is between 0-80% the phone charges pretty fast, but after 80% it goes to a trickle charge, almost to a point where you may as well take the phone off of the charger. So if you're someone that likes looking at 100% when you take your phone off the charger it may be a little frustrating having to wait almost an hour for that final 20%.
Totally fair point. I just live in the 30-70% range.
Same. Once it hits 80 I just pull it off. I understand the trickle charge is suppose to extend battery life but also need that 💯 before I run out the door for the day sometimes😂
Also sometimes if I had to I just turned off the battery charge optimization thing to make that last 20% charge faster.
That teaser of the upcoming camera comparison was better than the post credit scenes of Marvel movies :)
This phone is just going to grow and get better overtime. It's like my battery is finding it's sweet spot, especially when using it all day without (Work day 1130 am to 1050pm) without charging it. I just use a matte black Dbrand skin for the camera area.
Thanks for the review. What type of smart pen were you using at the start of the video?
I haven't been this excited for a Google device since the Nexus 5, mine will finally be here on Monday. I think it's great that Google is building a "Google" phone in earnest now. I was also pleasantly surprised at the very competitive price point, I think you'd be hard pressed to find a better android option here in the US. The Nexus phones were significantly cheaper than most competing flagships but they seemed to have more compromises back then. I feel this is a definite positive step in product identity for Google. 👍great video Juan!
Congrats on the new phone!
Hi! Did you get your Pixel? How do you like it? Thank you! 🙂❤️
I look forward to seeing the video about the camera performance on this after a few updates. In particular, the video performance. As I'm looking to replace/upgrade my OnePlus 7 Pro, which I also use to record all of my RUclips videos too.
I'm using a Spigen Tough Armour which covers the side of the cameras, it makes the phone that much larger though...
I cannot believe how much you fit into this "review". Absolutely brilliant! If I were in the market for a new smartphone, it would be a Pixel Pro. However, my LG V60 is still going strong and gives me everything for my usage profile.
I love how your brought up the history of the iPhones radio. I was an iPhone user and purchased the iPhone 7 when released. That was the time when Apple leveraged their dependency on Qualcomm and began using the not-ready-for-prime-time Intel radio. Where I used to get 2 bars of service in rural areas, I'd get no service with the iPhone 7.
I immediately returned the iPhone 7 and purchased a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and never looked back. Add that issue to Apple's booting the 3.5mm jack, and I'm now entrenched in the Android ecosystem.
One thing I'm greatly disappointed in with the Pixel 6 family is the lack of 3.5mm Jack and expandable storage...the latter egregious given that the Pixel 6 is a camera-centric device.
Especially if you're on a V60. Going from the best headphone jack on nearly any portable gadget to having no headphone jack feels like cutting a limb off.
@@SomeGadgetGuy It sounds laughable, but I actually picked up a second LG V60 for a song. I'll wait to register that V60 when my current one's 2 Year Warranty is running out. In the meantime it's nice to have a backup phone.
I pair my V60 and it's incredible 32-bit Hi-Fi QuadDAC with the Bose QC20 noise-canceling earbuds...a ridiculously great combination. The QuadDAC can't be properly explained to the uninitiated.
Not sure how the Pixel 6 family compares to the V60 camera-wise. As you say, it's all about how you use your phone. I take relatively few videos compared to most power users.
I take a lot of stills, but honestly, if I'm going to be in a situation where I know the shots are important, I carry my Fujifilm X10... to this day one of the best point and shoot cameras ever produced. Sure there are cameras with better specs, but Fujifilm's brilliant 2/3" sensor and 28-112 F2.0-2.8 glass gives me everything that I need...in a compact firm factor. And it doesn't hurt that the X10 looks like a classic Leica.
I hear what you're saying about the imperfections and the need to have a little bit of patience and to keep the bugs of the new OS with the new phone in proper perspective but the imperfections with Android 12 have been annoying and I can see someone who's using a pixel phone for the first time having these experiences and rejecting the phone because of it. I am a veteran pixel user so I am fully aware that it typically takes Google about 5 to 6 updates to get the phone where it needs to be with that being said it is still greatly annoying and it has an effect on the user experience. It's almost as if Google releases these phones as a beta and then wait and see what problems that are going to be experienced in real time and then seek to fix those which is okay but still I can understand why people are upset over the bugs.
Totally fair. We should absolutely hit Samsung and OneUI4 with the EXACT same concerns if it launches with any bugs 👍
@@SomeGadgetGuy agreed!
Enjoying my OnePlus 6t on custom ROM..it's smooth as ever and feels like it is brand new on Android 11
Juan, do you think this phone would be a good upgrade to go to from the V60?
Thanks in advance.
The moment case offers the camera visor protection you’re looking! And it has a MagSafe magnet built in, so you can take advantage of apples MagSafe ecosystem
Yeah I gotta get that case....l
Preordered, but looks like delayed until first week of December.
I accept Pixel shortcomings on the A series (and of course really enjoy Pixel strengths as well). I kind of want to put Pixel Experience ROM on a Sony or something like that.
Those Rode wireless are so expensive and I find it is intrusive on your jersey. Is there a way to put it under your jersey or lower down out of view and still have good quality sound. Wondering if this is the way to go when it comes to wireless audio?
I want to see a manual camera mode to justify the "Pro" name but I like what I see.
I am looking to my replace my google pixel 3 XL. I trying to decide between the pixel 6 pro, OnePlus 9 pro or the Samsung galaxy S21 ultra. How does the pixel compare to these phones?
Excellent content Juan. Does either the 6 or 6 pro do video out?
Nerp.
The ultra wide should just be renamed to the "daytime landscape" camera. It's great if I'm at the lake or looking over a cliff or whatever to capture a wide space. Usually I snap a couple with the main sensor, grab a picture or two with the ultra wide and it really helps show the scale of the location. At night it's just not great and indoors I think it has limited uses except maybe at like a basketball game or something?
LOL I like that energy. In my brain it's the "bright daylight single click panorama" sensor 😅
I love that Google went with ARM's Mali-G78 MP20 20core monster. Rated at 2 Teraflops of FP32 compute. Its no wonder ARM's Mali-G78 (2nd Gen Valhal) GPU is a Vulkan parallel number muncher. It kind of reminds me of AMD's RX VEGA64 GPU, which has 4,096 Stream Processors. One should take note that the 15.2 Billion transistor 5nm Kirin 9000 has ARM's full 24core Mali-G78 MP24 24core beast and It has 128EU's (ALU's) per core, giving it 3,072EU's in total. That's just amazing to me. Also, the the Mali-G78 MP24 is rated at 2.332TFlops of FP32 compute. Vulkan benches and games, you may bow when testing ARM's 20core+ Mali-G78 GPU.
The phones seems really good, and the battery issue that everyone else is talking about will be fixed with an update. Once google tweaks the code and software I think that they will be competitive with in 6 months to a year on all levels.
This is a god-mode review 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
I think I might wait a year to upgrade from my 4a 5g cause that pixel 6 looks like my kind of phone like you said a companion device
OK, great video but what stylus are you using? Is a USI stylus compatible? I'm coming from using Samsung Note phones for the last decade and would like a similar stylus experience and not one of those mushy sponge types.
Great review 👍 I have the Galaxy S21 Ultra the standard camera it's 12 megapixel if I want to used the 108 megapixel I need to changed , ..
Thank you for mentioning the shutter lag. It's so bad on Samsung s21 Ultra (and my last two samsungs).
Love the S21 Ultra but shutter lag is so annoying that i cant rely on it on a daily basis.
Pixel 6, Oppo Find X3 Pro or the iPhones are extremely good at this
I think the less dense UI is in part for accessibility. My thumbs don't have a lot of dexterity, they more click into position. That makes gestures ineffective and even painful sometimes. Using larger toggles makes me more accurate. My dad who uses bifocals for reading mentioned larger UI elements are easier for him to see at a glance too. So I think this really about making the operating system accessible, I do think over the next couple versions they will dial in the customizations.
Same. I think too many targets on screen introduces issues for people who rarely ever comment on tech videos.
Man... Can you imagine a 64 MP shot in Manual Mode on the LG V60 🥵
10:11
Your foresight seems reasonable. Subbed
👍
Yeah I agree I hate the curved screen can't use glass protector. for your camera visor use D Brand skin that's what I'm using on mine.
Can you review the regular 6 too? I don't like the size of the pro but I like the camera. Also is it really wroth it? I was looking at the red magic 6s pro bc the price and specs and all you get. Case, charger, ear buds... But they probably don't send updates as often as we expect Google to send them
Hi Juan, can you revisit the Pixel 6 Pro on the June 2022 update whether it fixes the external DAC output..? Thanks man.. Your the best..! ❤️ from Singapore..
I like when you review the reviewers! 😂
what stylus pen are you using for your google pixel 6 pro? Got mine in the mail on tuesday and saw you using the pen in this video and got excited.
Is there any pen for lenovo Flex 20?? i rly need to know
I got the pixel 6 pro. I wish they called it the 6xl. Pixel has always been point and shoot.
When the 4 came out, I really liked the addition of control over shadows and highlights / exposure. And I like that the 6 pro has white balance control right in the camera.
That said, I wish there was a manual controls mode. I feel like the Lumia's did their camera app interface the best. I have dreamt of a Lumia 1020 style manual mode on the pixel.
I love most of the stuff, specially the motion mode, and the long exposure mode.
But I don't like that you need two taps to turn on and off wifi now.
I also don't like the shadows being brought up a lot by default. (Too much HDR sort of look) I miss the old contrasty approach they had with the 4xl. But this should be easily fixable with updates.
I professionally shoot cars and it was a joy to see some of the images the motion mode could capture. I'm excited to shoot more with it.
The pelican case is actually great! it has the perfect cutout for me. I am waiting on Moment pixel case as well where the glass is more covered.
That Moment REALLY has my eye...
@@SomeGadgetGuy Their m force system also intrigues me. I've had moment case on my OnePlus 7 pro and it was perfect(imo), my favorite case. Dbrand skins are great but their cases suck in my opinion. I tried twice and after a few months the grip case just falls apart. I digress though
For some reason, I can't edit 4k taken on Pixel 6, using Power Director. An error about supported codex pops up, doesn't happen on other devices. Figured a camera pro, like yourself might have an answer.
PD needs an update.
I took some night shots without night mode being the bigger sensor she got dinner pretty nice shots
Pixel 6 is great, and can't wait to see the future of Pixel 6/6Pro. I really hope that Pixel with Android 12L folding Pixel comes out at some point. Perfect device IMO. Every modern phone I mess with I still go back to Z Fold 3 just due to being sooo different. But man those cameras on the Pixel are much better.
Can you tell what pen was that at the beginning?
What styles are you using on this device?
I have the 6 coming from an LG V60 At first I thought it was a lateral move.....but I was very mistaken. The last Google phone I had was the Nexus 6P. Wow I missed out on a lot of what pixel can do. It has been a blast learning all it can do, it's renewed my enthusiasm for Android 😎
i wanted to know the same thing
My wife LOVE her pixel Pro. The battery life is insane and it's fast. It's the best hardware I've ever held. It's beautiful.
❤️😎
The charger from my old pixel 2xl seems to register as quick charging. And does seem to charge faster than say using a random 3rd party plug.
Not the 50% in 30 minutes they quoted for the 30watt charger but still fast enough I'm happy with it.
Good to know. I'll have to see if there's one around here somewhere...
Wait till u use phone with 65watt and feel the speed.
Did you try 3rd party camera apps to have manual iso/shutter speed/focus ?
This would be awesome especially if we can have manual controls of the 4x lens !
So far no support for the wide and tele lens, but you can control the main lens.
@@SomeGadgetGuy that's a bummer, thanks for the answer :)
I use the flip to shhh so after I charge and it's flipped, I didn't see much battery drain at all.
