  • Classic Truck Specialist David Welch gives a step-by-step guide on removing and installing Cab Mounts on 1973-1987 Squarebody Chevrolet or GMC Pickups. Dave also shows us what these bushings look like as well talking about why he prefers installing Urethane mounts when removing the factory Rubber type. Replacing the bushings will help you keep your sheetmetal aligned and your truck riding smoothly down the road.

    Bolts were froze on my 84. cage nuts just spin so I drilled a 3/8 hole for extension thru floor and 5/16 for a punch. Put punch thru cage nut to hold then broke nut loose. Worked well on all 4. Be sure to check that body lines match. Mine did not so had to go back and shim left side of cab 1/2" with large washers. 6mo later had to go back again cause new side step brackets attach to cab mounts. Hope this saves ya some time. fravar

    Awesome! Since the prior generation C/K series pickups (67-72) are relatively the same, these procedures should work for them as well, at least I'm hoping since I have a '68. I've cut out an opening in the floorboard of a Suburban 1500 in order to access the electric fuel pump so that i didn't have to empty the fuel or drop the tank. But I've never thought of cutting an access for a bad nut. I like it! 👍
    To add, for those who didn't know this. At the 9:16 mark, when replacing that bushing it might be a good idea to have a look at the ground strap and replace it as needed since bad grounds can cause electrical issues.
    Thanks for another great video David!

    • @BROTHERSTruckPartsTV
      @BROTHERSTruckPartsTV  3 года назад +1

      On the 67-72 there won't be a problem with nut access since they are NOT trapped in the sheet metal like the Squarebody's setup. Also, excellent suggestion on the Ground strap replacement! Thanks for the comment!

      @@TheNinja8000 This is super common on Squarebody trucks. You don;t really have a problem that needs addressing, it's just a poorly designed fuel filler from the factory. Our '75 GMC shop truck suffers from the same problem. A long term solution to the problem would be a great new product!

    Hey brothers trucks, my 1970 c15 has the front end shifted to the passenger side, I loosened the rad mount bolts and I managed to shift it back to the driver side but I need to move it another 1/2”, can I loosen the cab and shift it more? Any tips on shifting the cab as well or is brute force required lol

    • @BROTHERSTruckPartsTV
      @BROTHERSTruckPartsTV  3 года назад +1

      Loosen the cab mount and apply brute force. It's going to be all about getting your cab square on the frame before you even try to get your fenders and hood to line-up properly. We have found it helpful to attach a come-along to the cab and anchor it to something solid, then just jack the come-along to tug the cab in whatever direction you need to move it. It works good because it allows you to make minor adjustments instead of big ones.
