Thank you Alan for a great video which helped me a lot. There is just one suggestion I'd like to make. There is no need to prise out the vertical cable tie mounts (not easy to do without damage) as they have a slot to enable a new cable tie to be threaded through. So you can just snip off the existing cable tie, leave the mount in position and then thread a new cable tie through leaving the 'anchor' nice and secure.

🤣remove the front bumper !! I wouldn't put it past manufacturers for that to be the case these days !! Alan, thanks so much for this video, I've got a new battery ready to go into my MK5 Mundano and wasn't sure how to do it. Thanks to this brilliant video, I now know how to do it and have the relevant tools. A star you are and love the comedic elements to the proceedings. Liked n subbed, cheers, Daz, Leicester.

More than welcome Al, just done the battery swap over and thanks to watching your video and taking notes it was a doddle !! I fix coffee machines not much of a car mechanic but happy to have a go of course. I bought a pry tool from Amazon, didn't need it, someone else has already broken the plastic lugs haha !! The yuasa battery I took out has a green dot which says the battery is ok, yet recently a couple of times where I've not driven the car over the weekend come Monday morning it wont start. Out comes the booster pack to get me going again. I picked up a TopDon battery tester which showed the battery is charging ok but the ampage is only 45% , 490amps out of 730a. Anyway, whacked the new one in now so all good. cheers again Al , top man 👍

Hello Alan and thank you for all your videos. Have original battery on mk5 2l 6 years (start stop), still working but planning a replacement because i do not want to have bad surprises far away from home. Original batt is 70AH , 720 A AGM . As a replacement I can find Exide AGM 70 AH (760 A) or Varta Silver AGM with same values. I do not consider EFB batt because I can see original is AGM. What is your experience regarding AGM/EFB and is this something to have in mind when buying new replacement battery (in order to avoid misbehavior of subsystems)?

Hi Alan, I recently acquired a Mk5 Bi-Turbo diesel Mondeo and used your video to help change the fuel filter and rear brake pads. #BRILLIANT! Question; I was looking around and prices of batteries as my stop/start rarely stops now and believe it could well be due to battery capacity. I went on to the Halfords website which does seem very competitively priced BUT, they recommend it be fitted by them as they say "Most vehicles require this battery to be registered with the on-board computer system". Is that the case on the Mk5 Mondeo as I didn't hear anything about that on the video? Thanks in advance, Paul

    • @alan4x

Thank you for the video, with your instructions, I was able to replace my battery that suddenly stopped working.
For information, the new battery I installed in my Mondeo mk 5 completely drained after 2 months. The mechanic jump-started it with a booster.
I went back to where I bought it (a chain of mechanics that also sells spare parts), and they told me that the problem is that I installed it myself, so I didn't perform a reset on the control unit (to let the control unit know that the battery is new), and therefore, the alternator is not charging it properly. So, they say I should leave the car with them to fully charge the battery and then reset the battery status on the control unit.
Do you think this is necessary? Is it required to reset the battery status on the control unit every time you change the battery?
Thank you very much for the information.

I have different air inlet pipework on my 2015 Mk5 Titanium. Had to split the air filter box to reach under it with a crowbar to free the box from the 2 rubber grommets. Also managed not to move the cable trunking fixed to the battery tray, just lifted the battery onto the trunking to remove the connections and then lifted it over the trunking to remove it.
Now hoping that the heated screen will see me through the winter. Don't get me started on the BMS in the cars. 😡

I recently bought a Mondeo 2.0 TDCI 180HP old 3g with 90tkm and I constantly travel the same relation of 650km on highway and the consumption was about 5.3 l per 100km , i drive 90% on cruise drive.
Tree months ago, the Chek engine turned on and I turned off the car and started after a few minutes and the lamp was no longer on, went to the authorized FORD service and they said that the battery has to be changed (waiting for the battery) in the meantime it was driving and the consumption jumped to 7 l, changed the battery in the service a week ago and canceled some minor mistakes over OBD (steering wheel, parking sensors, etc.) they telling me that after some time driving consumption will come back to the old one just needs mileage.
Now I drive and drive 5000km highway however it still spends 20-25% more and it does not show any error on the tester, today I go again to an authorized service and nothing no error , they chekd DPF and EGR over diagnostics and said it is ok.
What can go wrong because low voltage of batery , or something else.
Some idea what it can be?

@@alan4x Ah OK thanks Alan! They said 15 mins to replace the battery and 30 mins to reset the BMS, which I think is absolute BS.
For everyone else with the same question, this is how you reset the BMS without the scan tool:
Turn the key to position 2 (the ON/RUN position). In cars with push button start you press the button without depressing the brake / clutch pedal). The engine warning light in the dashboard will now be lit permanently because the engine is not running.
      Wait 10 seconds.
Press 5 times in a row the switch for the rear fog lamp.
Toggle 3 times in a row the hazard warning lights (on-off). The hazard warning light will keep blinking now.
      Wait 10 seconds.
When the procedure has been carried out correctly, the engine warning light will blink a number of times and the system is reset.

Hi, I did reset to the Mondeo 2016 this way. Ignition on -> 5 times flash high beams -> 3 times brake pedal. Only that way I managed to get 3 times battery icon flash and now start/stop working after the battery replacement

you are supposed to tell the car you have changed the battery with a scan tool but this rarely gets done and i have never found any problems from not carrying out a reset

@@alan4x thnx! I called the Ford Dealership, they'd charge me a ridiculous amount of 380 euros (!!!!!) for a new battery. I found one with the exact same specs for 130 euro's and had a guy install it. He also reset the car to 'brake in' the new battery otherwise it wouldn't charge the right way he said..... anyhow thnx.

Hi Alan, thanks for the video. One question : what is the purpose of the cover around the battery?
I ordered a replacement battery for my Mondeo Mk5 but the new battery showed a slightly higher length and to fix it I had to use the second position of the battery bottom clamp (in your video you can see there are two positions provided). So I cut the cover open so that it is now partially around the battery. Has this any importance?

It's much more fun to open doors of a Mercedes Benz A-Class with a flat battery, because the battery is mounted inside cabin.

Hi Alan, I’m considering changing the battery on my MkV 2015 Tdci as the heated front screen and stop start are now inoperative even after charging the battery for a couple of days.
I notice this is an agm battery fitted to this model. When I search for the correct battery on Eurocarparts and other suppliers an efb battery comes up in the search results. I understand these are slightly lower spec than the agm but considerably cheaper.
Any idea if I can get away with fitting a efb on this model?

    • @alan4x

hi.....i would ask the supplier if the battery is compatible with start stop as it is an uprated battery and not cheap

Turns out mine is an efb battery fitted from new not an agm as I originally thought. . Ford must have changed to agm batteries on this model sometime after mine was built.
Managed to pick up the correct efb one from Halfords for £88 Inc vat with trade discount (model efb 110).
