- What Faults Should I Look For....Ford Mondeo Mk5, 2L Diesel.
I thought i would just reel off a number of things to look for on a 2l diesel mk5 mondeo as i have been getting quite a few questions on the subject. Авто/Мото
Hi Alan..Thank you again for your suggestion re: my car locking and unlocking repeatedly at random.
You might be interested to know that the problem turned out to be the key fob.. The random switching stopped when I removed the batteries..Lucky for me, I always take the spare key with me!!
Thanks again for all the time and effort you put in to keep mk5 drivers informed.
Hey Alan ! Just want to say thanks for a fun filled , fact filled video ! BTW , there was a ford commercial following the video 😃 . YAHHHH !!!!!
Really comprehensive assessment of the Mk5. Alan, well done, Seeya.
thanks -087mail
Alan, just bought a 2015 estate and drove it home from englandshire to jockland and absolutely love it.
I'm an old school mechanic and I'm now hanging on your every word, great videos thanks
Still going well?
Hi 👋🏻 Alan. Always good watching your walk rounds 😀
thanks stevie, hope you are good😊
Good stuff man really helpful I love your workshop it looks awesome. Keep up the good work man
Thanks for the mention, another quality vlog.
that was a good point you made, cheers ian
I was sold on this car until I found your channel. You've possibly saved me some heartbreak.
Monica , you absolutely did the right thing with that printer . As much as we diyers want to fix everything , a printer is just not worth our time . Good show girl 👍 . Might I add , looking fabulous as always 💕
Wow - never heard anyone who knows what they're talking about with a car like this! Impressive! I'm considering a 318k miles (yes, 318,000!!!) ex-fleet and now know what to look for in the service history! Thank you!!
Great video. Very interesting hearing about this kind of stuff from a guy who knows it all so well.
thank you☺️
Haha.. that makes me really scared 😱😂😂😂, thanks for the shakedown! I laughed my head off when Monika threw the printer 🖨😂😂😂
😂🤣
Fab video, thanks. Looks like my 108k mk5 has some expenses coming up soon-ish! Loved the printer disposal section. Seems like there are some anger issues among staff and boss 😂
Thank yoyu, Alan.....keep up the great Vids.......hope you have a good Printer at last and Monika (Monica?) will be happy with no more Printer jams !!
OMG you are so good I had ford galaxy 2017 taxi from new , same engine like that car and done 150, 000 mile and I got all the faults which you mentioned even the lower arm suspension pushes was very noisy and I sold the problem after I saw your video.
You are amazing Mechanek
lol, cheers adam
I am just about to buy a 2016/10 Mondeo with 89k kilometers with the 2.0 tdci engine. This video is very useful. Thanks.
Very good video yet again Alan. Only thing is with regard to the high pressure pump transfer housing. The dam thing is only bolted at 2 points. You will however see a third unavailable bolt port on the old gasket. It should be a 3 point (every 120 degrees bolt down to be totally secure all round. I agree,,, bad design from day one. A third bolt can't be used due to the big driving step up gear being in the way. What clown with an engineering credit designed it in the first place? 🤔 I did this very same repair on my Kuga and used a small bit of blue Hylomar on the oil feed area of gasket only to find that the leak comes back in 5000 miles. I'm done with owing Ford this time and buying myself a Dacia. Please can you do a feature on the Dacia Duster if the opertunity presents. Keep up the good work Alan. We appreciate it. You da man 👍
I have a 2011 Mondeo estate as my taxi and I can honestly say it's been brilliant, I have never lost a days work. This car now has 255k on the clock and still pulls like a train however I'm now being forced to change because of the Ulez in Newcastle. Been looking at the Mk5 or a galaxy/smax still undecided
Have a 66 registered St Line. Had it since new and just clocked 150,000 miles. Aside from tyres and the usual, it’s been regularly serviced and maintained, just did the timing belt myself and brake disc and pads. Not missed a beat.
I am well impressed with that printer throw spot on 👍
Mine is on 63000 miles hopefully I will get a few more years before any problems start had it for a year now not a single issue fingers crossed nice video Alan like the monika cameo good crack keep it up
thanks barry
Had our 2015 Mark 5 Mondeo estate 180bhp diesel manual Titanium X with extras 5 years that covered 79,000 miles and only had a fuel pump gasket replacement at 72K service with original front discs pads replaced at that annual service as well. Excellent refined car that better than previous models.
Hi, I'm thinking about buying 2015 Mondeo but I can't decide between 150bhp and 180bhp engine. From what I heard, it's the same engine, but the 180bhp version is getting pumped more by the turbo which causes engine parts to crack, is that correct or not? Would you recommend this 180bhp engine? Considering you already did quite a lot of miles on it. thanks in advance :)
My Job for tommorow alan, although its a 2012 focus 2.0 tdci, great guide by the way
Edit…
Went like a dream, done it the hard way removing the starter to lock the flywheel. But its a job il probably only do once so wasn’t taking any risks. Cheers for the vid al, top class as per. Keep up the fantastic work.😎
Fantastic!
Thanks for quick reply Alan..Will try..John
I'm on my 13th mondeo. Fantastic cars
Hi Allen, just to say thanks for your videos Best Kev
thanks kevin
Cant fault my Mk5 had it nearly 3 years now and it's been an excellent replacement for my old Mk4.
Good video Alan as always 👍🏻
.
Thanks 👍alan
and thank you for all the video what you are doing for , it is very helpful. keep up...
cheers val val
Great content Alan. I've just subscribed. You know your Mondeo's! 👍
Much appreciated stephen, have a good one
I will keep my 2005 Mk 3 Zetec Petrol 2L estate. None of that crap and on its original engine, clutch and flywheel . No abs sensor rubbish either. But its front springs bust within six years! Cheap to fix. I get 40K from front discs as drive carefully . Teach you drivers to drive, Improvement equals deterioration. Great videos as ever.
My mark 5 estate 180bhp diesel front discs replaced at 73,000 miles. Only issue was fuel pump gasket replaced at that mileage.
Just the video I’m looking for, as I’m looking to add one to my PH fleet.
Had MB/BMW /Audi/VW but always had a soft spot for unpretentious Fords ,MK4 Mondeo in a 57 plate was one of the best cars I’ve ever had ,might try and bag a late model 20/21 …👍
Alan I’ve got the same issue I suspect, I think it’s the spring in the high pressure fuel pump / not starting at all! Despite all the cam position and crank sensor codes!
Really good video Alan thank you
Thanks mate for great video, i just was replace polen filter use your instruction)))))
Nice video, love it. You mentioned everything
cheers fouad
Thanks for this Alan. Our 2015 S-Max (very similar mechanically) has the dreaded oil leak from the HP fuel pump gasket also...
Any advice on prevention measures for some of these other issues, such as the coolant leaks or drive shaft inner joints?
Hello Alan, I've had my MK5 Mondeo since new in 2015 (65) it is a 240ps Auto, great car to drive and looks amazing when its clean. You could be talking about my car in this video, everything you have said has happened to me. I use it as a taxi as well and its just hit 144k miles July 2021 is the last payment on the finance.
Problems: 20k miles DPF Blocked as Fuel Vaporiser (replaced and reset) full of dirt. This has happened 5 times, every 20,000 miles. All fixed under warranty, except last one at 50% cost, £450 a pop. Alternator went at 50k miles (warranty). I've had two fly wheels at 70k miles (50/50) with dealer and then at 130k miles (£832). Cambelt expert advised not to change the water pump when changing the timing belt. No idea why I listened, he said they never break. Subsequently, Thermostat Housing front blew off (was leaking at the back for 18 months) then the water pump impeller snapped then EGR cracked and lost all the coolant, these three thing were inside 2 week period after I lost all my fluid on a 70 mph motorway drive. £1200 all in. Oh, the ABS lights have been on for 12 months as has the tyre pressure sensor light, but which tyre is it? £30 each. Currently rear passenger shocker gone as well.
Fortunately, I am getting rid of it at the end if the month. Sad to see it go as the auto 210hp is a great drive especially for a taxi driver.
Alan, I've watched all of your videos over the past 5 years and you have helped me diagnose nearly every issue I've had with my car. I am now moving to an electric vehicle and should create a whole new range of unknown issues. I've enjoyed watching you whilst learning so much about my car. Ford should employ people like you to identify and improve their cars but they wont listen and they will lose loyal customers like me to Tesla. Sad to see my MK5 go even after all the problems but the gearbox is £3000 and it has to go before that packs in. It's been great Alan....I owe you a good few pints believe me. By the way, taxi tests in Merseyside are £38.50.
bless, thanks for that story, very interesting, hope all goes well with your new car😊
@@alan4x my dads one had been very reliable, he got his in 2015 and sold it in 2019, there was almost no problems. The new owner said he had no problems even though its at 70k miles now. Actually thinking about it, the rear pads and discs went bad after 8k miles, somehow. Then the front brake pads were bad at 20k.
Another great vid thanks Alan 👍
cheers leo
Mr howattt your the best in the field ..
thanks bany🤣
2019 mk5 2.0tdci A6 just over 100k miles. Original brakes. Nothing has gone wrong (yet). Great car.
Love my 09 plate Mondeo M4 2L TDCI Zetec. Most reliable car I've ever owned.
My mondeo mk5 Taxi only has 53000km so far and apart from orange engine light been on for the past 30k. No issues.
We have had five Mondeos, right from the mk1, got a mk5 titanium 2.0 diesel at the moment which is a lovely car to drive, but out of them all my favourite was the mk 3 2.0 tdci Ghia, a truly brilliant car.
Best mondeo ever made the Mk3
I still own a Mondeo Mk3 2.0tdci
Mk3 mondeo, I had several, all fantastic....
Owned 3 mk3s two were brilliant and one was utterly shit.
Currently binge watching the channel, loving the vids Alan. I got a Mondeo ST 2.2tdci and want to do the alternator tensioner and my question is thi. Are they a bitch to do?
Alan..........thanks heaps for great info.
cheers joseph
25:30 Driveshaft crack sound on 34.000 miles. Ford service approved the replacement next week. Still on warranty (2018).
Hello, first of all, nice content on Your channel, I would like to swap my mk5 mondeo round fog light with neweer one with fog light and led drl, so is it straight forward just to bolt on or something else? Thank You
Hi Alan. I think i will stick to my Ford B-max Diesel for a while longer. 😊😊 See you in the next one 👍👍
Cool 👍
Thanks for the video. The information you have provided is pretty amazing. Really in depth and learning a tonne of news things. Thank you
I'm fixing up my Ford Galaxy and had the intercooler hose fail. After scouring the Internet, the only hose I could find is one without a hole for the sensor.
The hose cost me £110 but now the sensor won't fit. The guy I bought the hose off told me that Ford has decided to remove the sensor on later models. I rang the Ford garage who told me they wanted £140 just to hook up the computer, without disabling anything.
I contact the main Ford company asking why I should have to pay Ford for removing something off the car?
They told me that each garage is franchise and that Ford couldn't even ask one of these franchises to do the work for me because they will charge whatever they like.
I disconnected the battery and drained the ECU. Disconnected the sensor and then started driving. It seems OK but the mpg sensor keeps going up and down.
I get roughly 48mpg and 540 miles out of a full tank. Do you recommend I have the sensor disabled in the ECU?
I want to contact every single Ford Galaxy owner to notify them about this problem with Ford and the sensor. They should fix the problem for free
not familiar with the galaxy but if its the turbo boost sensor then it really nerds to be fitted and working
Which generation of Galaxy and which engine? I know Ford pulled this stunt with removing the sensor with the 1.8 TDCi on the MK4 Mondeo/similar age Galaxy.
It's a 2006 ford galaxy mk2. Its the hose that comes from the turbo to the intercooler.
Ford decided to remove the sensor from my model but also from future production.
I think its probably the worst time to try and fix cars with all of the electrics they install
@@alan4x sorry mate, it wasn't alerting me for comments. Only just saw it
Hahahaha I laughed hard when you threw the printer in the bin 😂
😂🤣
Mate this was really really helpful but frightening. Im picking up ky 2016 auto mondeo this afternoon im hoping not to see a lot of these problems. Scary but thank you for the heads up.
😊
Hi ! Did you ever have any issues with the wheels lug nuts ? Mines have been destroyed by mechanics while changing tyres with 12 points sockets on pneumatic screwdriver ...
Hello Alan. Love your content about mondeos. Currently i am driving a 2006 1.8 petrol mondeo and i am in the market for a 2021 ford focus mk4 diesel 1.5l. What do you think about it?
Thank you
Very informative.
Do a video for the mk4 aswell. I would opt for a 1.8 tdci :)
Got a mk2 Mondeo 1.8 petrol cost me £500 to buy 9 years ago and has never missed a beat not once
Hi pal, check on the gov site for compatability for the new shit fuel the government wants us using. 👍
@@grahamrushin4384 mine was registered 1998 and is the 1.8 zetec so all fine 👍
@@grahamrushin4384 the 1.8 sci engine is the Mk3 Mondeo 2003-2007
Yes, i too have a Mk2 1.8i......175,000 on the clock.......original engine.......brilliant motor.....easy to work on.....keep yours on the road as long as poss. Cheers - Chris.
@@christopherlloyd8741 brilliant cars this is my 3rd mk2 mine only has 85k on the clock
Good video alan, ive had my mk5 since march 2020 only done 7000 miles because boris & co locked us up 😂 i had to replace my nearside driveshaft, £400 from ford 🤢 apart from that all good, replaced the rear disks & pads and changed the front calipers, disks & pads for ford edge/galaxy items, twin pot calipers. Also remapped to 224bhp.
Going to have the timing belt done next year at 100k, going to drive down from rochdale for you to do the belt 👍
thats great, thanks dave, we will do your belt no problem😁
My dad also had to replace his rear disk and pads, beware, you will soon need to replace the front ones at 20-30k
The spring thing in the high pressure pump, at what mileage will you expect to get problems?
Hi Alan, I am really hoping you see this as i am in desperate need of some help! I have a 2015 MK3.5 Focus ST TDCI (Basically the same engine as your mondeo's i believe?) and recently it has been throwing up some error codes which i am unsure what the actual cause could be.
So, Every so often (becoming more frequent now) the car throws up an "engine service now" error message on the dash and the car goes in to reduced power with a louder exhaust note, This disappears and power is instantly restored by stopping and restarting the engine. The eml light also came on once on it's own (and power was not reduced) a while back and after clearing the codes hasn't come back on since. The code's it's frequently throwing up are as follows:
P02FA - Diesel Intake Air Flow Position Sensor Minimum/Maximum Stop Performance - Signal Above Allowable Range
P02E3 - Diesel Intake Air Flow Control Circuit High - Circuit Short To Battery
It has also thrown the following ones up (but these haven't come back yet):
P003A - Turbocharger Boost Control A Position Exceeded Learning Limit - Signal Above Allowable Range
P02ED - Intake Air Flow A Control System - Low Air Flow Detected - Actuator Stuck Closed
P1102 - Mass Air Flow Sensor In Range But Lower Than Expected - Signal Amplitude < Minimum
P003A - Turbocharger Boost Control A Position Exceeded Learning Limit - Signal Above Allowable Range
So apart from when it comes up with the "engine service now" message and goes in to reduced power, the engine sounds, runs and performs absolutely fine, But from hours of research i cannot seem to find any conclusive answers so i'm kinda stuck right now! Some things point to the possibility of the MAF or EGR, but i don't want to start blindly replacing parts as this could be costly and pointless. I would actually love to just bring the car to your garage and pay you to investigate and fix the car but i'm down in Kent so you are quite far away. I don't mind paying you for your time in advising with this if you can though as i can work on the car myself to replace whatever the cause is if required! This is my first ever diesel so i'm a bit clueless!
Thank you in advance! Steve
My IVECO artic tractor unit has done nearly 120,000 MILES and the pad wear is 25% on the front and rear axle and, only 3% on the middle one.
All this whilst running at 44 tonnes, in the North of England, up and over the Pennines regularly.
I'm glad I watched this before considering buying a mk5. I think I'll stick with Toyota. Great video.
Good one but wot about the auto? Any problems and how often does it get serviced. And the manual any clutch problems.
Love the videos bro!
hi jordan, how's it going, will have to catch up some time, hope you are good 😊
Thank you! But I'm not pleased with the front seats, because I had to change the seat cussion after 100.000 km. If you compare to the MK4, they had a metal bowl where the seat cussion lays in, the MK5 only has 2 springs, where the cussion is layed on. Or the english cars build an other way?
Great vid 😁
I seem to have a problem with my ignition on my mk5 Mondeo, Allan. Sometimes, car doesn’t crank. It’s like it can’t sense the clutch pedal being pressed. Eventually it detects after multiple tries starts immediately. Is this a common fault? Is there an easy fix? Thanks, Graham
Hi Alan,i have a problem with an 2016 Mondeo Mk5 2.0 TDCI 180 Powershift. At Idle the engine is rouning rough with rpm fluctuations, vibration and bad sound.Interesting is that when DPF is regenerating at idle the engine runing very nice,no vibration,it sound very very well. This is abnormal,i know that it should be exact oposite, during DPF regen the engine is normal runing rough...I suspect something related to engine management sensors but i have no DTC errors stored in ECU.What do you think?
Hello Alan, My Mk5 2.0 diesel has a rattling/metallic noise coming from the front right wheel, specifically when I'm turning left. It's done 73k. Any suggestions? Kind regards 👍
Hi Allan I have one problem I don't know how to solve it. The climate has some weird smell (stinks). I disinfected the air conditioner twice, replaced the air filter and refilled the air conditioner, only 200g was missing, but it still stinks in the vehicle. What else do you think I need to do? I suspect that the hose from the air conditioner, where the condensate goes, is dirty or clogged, because nowhere do I see where it is wet under the car, and the air conditioner works for more than 2 hours. I don't know where the drain is. Please help This is a 2016 Ford Mondeo mk5, 2.0 tdci 150hp greetings from Croatia
Good stuff Alan, Thankyou:):)
Very welcome pat
290 000 miles iam running on borrowed time but it's running sweet I expect another 100k Peugeot boxer maybe timing chain guides? /Gearbox oil is I the same gearbox in the Peugeot boxer as a Mondeo ? Another great video funexcation
Your content has been second to none for my brothers mk4 Alan!
Have you ever had any ecu failures on your mk4's?
For years my brothers car has had an intermittent limp mode issue with both fuel pressure sensor and crank angle sensor faults. Have you struck this before?
not had any ecu problems on the mk4 but the fuel pressure sensor on mk4 is troublesome
@@alan4x I appreciate the reply
Afternoon Alan. I'm wondering if you can help me. I have a 2016 ford galaxy 2.0tdci titanium. I've been getting a clicking sound from behind the dash. Whenever the clicking sound goes off my heaters blow cold air. Have you ever come across this before. It's been plugged to a diagnostic system and nothing is showing up. Thanks in advance.
Beautiful car IMHO. With generally good HDi engine. But all modern cars needs frequent quality attention.
Hi Alan, you talked about the drive shaft failing on the mk5 mondeo costing about 300. Ford quoted me 800+ where can you get this from at about this 300 mark? Cheers Joe
Check the CEM for corrosion under the green connector as the Mk 4 mondeo seems to be prone to this fault. I don’t think ford have done a recall for this and it’s causing serious problems with associated items that it operates. The favourite reason that this is happening seems to be water capillary action stemming from the screen washer pump. This system is also fitted to other ford models and is a time bomb waiting to happen to older cars. A new CEM is estimated at £1000 plus pump plus labour and maybe part new harness, so very expensive to fix.
Another brilliant video, Allan..Thank you..
You mention High Intensity headlight bulbs but there are many on the market.. Is there one make that the trade would recommend as being the best?..Thank you again.. John.. Bristol
best thing is to read the amazon reviews and go with what most are saying

How much miles starts the problems with the dpf.. Are they blocking at 250000 miles?
How much is the sensor for the fan?
Hello, I want to buy a Ford Mondeo with a 2.0 diesel Ecoblue engine. I would like to know your opinions. What is the belt like? Is it a wet belt or a dry belt?
Thinking of buying one of these, probably a 2015 model. How do they hold up on their claimed MPG anyone?
my 2017 plate 1500cc diesel estate has a vibration drumming noise from what sounds like the dash at tickover drives me mad
Any issues with the automatics are they reliable?
Hi Allan great video's I never miss one, just a quick question I have a 2011 MK4 Mondeo tdci I was just wondering if you recommend fuel additives to keep egr injectors and dog clean. Thanks Jon.
i dont generally use them but they do work, so use a bottle every few months won't do any harm
@@alan4x thanks for the reply and advice, keep the video coming superb quality of information, and can we see more Monica 😉👌👌

Great video Alan with so much detail love it but can I ask you a question please regarding a knocking noise I have on my 2016 (144k miles) Vignale. It sounds like it's coming from the front passenger side suspension and had new drop links and bushes but still not sorted. You mention in the video about the rear passenger shocks concerning getting a loud knocking noise and that's sounds exactly like the issue I have with mine so my question is can you get that issue on the front shock
Are there many mk5s around to buy ?
06:15 That’s some lovely orange peel paintwork right there! 😳
🤣
I have seen oranges of that color. Plus Alan praised the flexibility of the material. That makes me ponder how did they actually repair the bumper...
Hello Alan, I have a 2007 Volvo S40 2.0D Engine code D4204T . Ive owned it from new! Needs a cambelt as now done 96K mls and a fuel filter - not done for approx 35 - 40 k miles. Have all parts and a gates timing belt kit inc water pump. This car does not have the dredded DPF filter. Want it done by someone experienced and actually knows what they are doing. Will obviously pay labour and any sundrys costs but is this worth doing a video on (its like the mondeo but slightly different). Many increase your youtube exposure and presence - particularly into the Volvo community. Happy to travel so let me know if this would be of interest? regards
Amazing video Alan,Its very useful to know this things.I personally like mk4 2.0 face lift models and I think the mk4 is better built then mk5.

Very different wear rates to vag cars. You get 100k easily out of front brake pads and 80k out of rears. However coil springs break regularly.
50k on mine
Alan! Ya top bloke 👍👍👍
Hi Alan got a problem on my 2.0 Diesel C30 D3 and you seem like the diesel expert.
Changed my fuel filter, ran it and it cut out after around 10 seconds. Cranked it after for a while but nothing. I don’t want to keep cranking it as apparently these CP4 pumps are known to cr#p themselves when run dry.
What’s the best way to bleed a fuel system without any special equipment?
Cheers 👍
hi, best way if possible is to fill the filter with diesel fuel...usually it will then start and not cut out
Love the show 😅
👍
Alan, do you change the gearbox oil as part of routine maintenance regime on the taxis?
no we only change the gear oil when a clutch is done but not as a service item
