So with 170k on the clock of a 17 reg motor, that would have been a write off. The fact that you can do it, Alan, along with the fact that the car earns enough to make the repair made that possible. I guess a lot more secondhand bits could have been used? Great video, great skills, you should be proud of yourself, Alan.

Haven't seen the complete video, yet, but watching a few minutes I am surprised by the changes between this Mondeo and what should be my identical (American) Fusion. My base model Fusion has plastic wheel covers, a sure sign it spent time as a fleet car. The front grille is (apparently?) different, on American models the grille bars are straight from side to side, and not " stepped " IIRC. And finally, that plastic panel on the boot lid (black plastic?) was never a feature on American models, it's always painted body color. I almost forgot, my base model car has a strip of chrome trim along the bottom of the windows, higher trim models got more chrome all around the windows. Your car does not appear to have any chrome there, yet it has alloy wheels, an extra cost item on my car...strange?
Nice to see it all repaired, last saw 1st hand in recovery yard at work . Alan you sill got a bracket for abs sensor that fits onto the shocks ? Ford price for drivershaft are a joke , just replace them on a mk4 petrol with aftermarket ones come to £140 for both

Nice 1 Alan costly repair I thought you might have used the one you were breaking for most of the parts but obviously it didn't have these parts on it , hope the driver pays for his careless driving
Baring in mind you got your parts from the main stealer I actually thought it would cost more than that.. if the care earns enough for the company week on week then the repair costs wasnt too bad provided it doesn't get smashed up again before youve recovered your costs.

An insurance company would have written that off, and yet it's not that bad a repair cost. It maddens me that they write off cars so readily. It just tells me they are lazy and inefficient and don't provide a service to their policy holders as the payout for write offs is usually very low and nowhere near enough to fund a replacement of similar quality to what got bashed.
Waste of time insurance companies they don’t want to fix anything apart from a minor scratch . Daughters car just been written off - over inflated estimate etc . More interested in claiming money back from third party for hire car and storage . Rant over 😃
They do all this write-offs because they replace the parts with genuine parts and not salvaged. Adding the costs of labour, this becomes financially inefficient. Is the people's fault as well because if you were told that the parts were replaced with second hand parts you would not be happy, especially with a 1-2 years old car. Is the greed and complaints of people which drives this. I own a hybrid version of this car and needed to replace a driveshaft. When Ford asked for £500+ for it, I thought is a bloody joke. Got myself 2 used ones for that money just in case, and the one fitted still going strong. Recycle ♻️ and reuse.
