  • I’ve had #AbletonPush3 for a while now but am only just finding the time to explore it, having been busy working on other projects. My experience thus far corroborates much of what I’ve seen, heard, and read from others. There are many similarities in workflow with #AbletonPush2, which is a good thing, and there are innumerable improvements, both big and small. The inclusion of a large, dedicated, clickable encoder for navigation is a massive boon, while navigation, loading, and response times in general are much faster than the previous #AbletonPush. The #MPE grid is exceptionally good and extremely playable, even for such a crude pianist as myself; it represents a huge step up from #Push2. The inclusion of an audio interface is also a massive benefit for travel between different locations in which one may wish to work, while the ability to output four channels of CV from the two pedal inputs is a great innovation.
This is the non-standalone version, which I feel represents the best value for money, at least for me. While I have used Push 2 live on a number of occasions, nowadays it represents more of a studio compositional/production tool for me. Furthermore, if there are processor and storage upgrades for #Push3 in the future, I figure it makes more sense not to pay for standalone functionality more than once and therefore invest in a more powerful upgrade kit further down the line. Overall, Push 3 isn’t cheap, but I would say it’s definitely worth the upgrade from Push 2, especially considering the previous iteration was released all the way back in 2015 and has served me well without issue since then.
