In the event that you need a refresher:
po·lite·ness
/pəˈlītnəs/
noun
behavior that is respectful and considerate of other people.
"he always treated me with the utmost politeness" Спорт
Some people's kids man... "internet" these grumps don't even now what that is. To stuck in their ways. You are absolutely correct.
K9OL this is KM9G. I see that you're currently using the frequency. We here at the spider net would GREATLY appreciate it if you would QSY so that we can conduct our net. What say how?
KM9G this is K9OL I would be happy to move! Thanks for asking! To all those folks that are currently workiing my station please QSY in negative 5 intervals until we can find an open frequency. This is K9OL QSY and QRT on Spider net, its all yours. Thanks for asking and 73!
(and then log KM9G as a contact 😉 )
^^^^ THIS ^^^^
There is this weird thing that happens with some dudes. They have a hard time humbling themselves a bit and just asking nicely.
That is true and the funny thing is, Is I have never heard an activator tell a net controller to kick rocks when asked nicely.
Thanks Josh. I hope that as I get to be their age someday that I won't have that fallacy in my character.
Nice video, you made the effort to be polite and respectful, that's all you can do. We've all come across this one time or another.
I'm just trying to engage them in a positive way. With any luck the guilty ones understand that what they did is not cool.
Good Video. I've had problems on this frequency in the past and will start pointing out the bad behavior as well. For someone like me, who actually knows you, I can confirm you would have done what you said in the video; provided someone just asked. Take care.
Thanks Dude. I haven't always recorded my activations, but I will from now on. It seems that some people have to be publicly called out before they realize that all it takes is being polite.
I was listening to your activation trying to make a contact when all that stuff started! LOL. I wasn’t able to break through your pileup!
Thanks for trying anyway and there is always a chance at the next activation. :)
Well said Carlos. I completely agree with you. 73!
Thanks James. We shall POTA On!
It’s frustrating when this happens. But it’s even more frustrating how much it happens.
Agreed. These people need to learn.
Absolutely right
Thanks Johnathan!
YES 1000X YES
Thanks Douglas, I appreciate it.
Manners have fallen faster than you out of an airplane. Good for you to keep your activation going. The hunters will have your back. 73, KE8UKX
The most beautiful thing about this entire thing is how well the hunters had my back. It is almost as if a Bat Signal went out saying "Activator in distress" and the pileup of hunters just grew. It was a lovely thing to experience. Thanks Larry, 73.
Their contact information is easy to find. Perhaps a few people should remind them about FCC rules and radio etiquette.
That is why I made this video primarily. I have the callsigns of a couple but not all of them. So I sent the video to the folks who's call I have and relayed it to others that I found associated with the group.
@@LifeAtTerminalVelocity I contacted them through their website. It will be interesting to see if they respond and what kind of response they give. I can imagine that, because of your video, there might be people parked on 14.347 waiting for their net to begin -- so they can remind them about FCC rules and radio etiquette of course. It's nice to see all the responses that talk about how nice people are in general and how this is an aberration. Thanks for the video.
I'm not looking to actively harass them especially since I know it is just a few bad apples not the entire lot of them being jerks. But I can't control what other people do. 🤷♂️
Tune up over them to assert dominance.
I just kept on activating, I think I added another 40 QSOs to the LOG after they started to QRM me.
Just start collecting callsigns. Let's make a wall of shame website.
I have some ideas as to what name to use for the site. Thanks Aaron I might just go register a couple of domains this morning.
I feel like you are not the only one that has experienced some asshattery on that frequency. I am all for getting along, but some of these groups (nets) are going to have to come to terms with the fact that amateur radio is growing and there are more people out there using the bands. Instead of being jerks about their nets, they should start a letter writing campaign to their elected representatives, the FCC and the ARRL to help secure expanded band space for the influx of new operators. 🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮
I'm trying the carrot to start. I have no illusions of it working but I'm trying it just in case.
So typical for many nets sadly. I can't count how many times I've heard "I can hear there's someone on the frequency, they're weak, so we can just start" or similar comments ..
It is sad, pathetic, and terrible of them. With any luck we can solve this. If not I plan to fight fire with fire.
At least you are in the same country, so FCC action could be an option@@LifeAtTerminalVelocity
"gentlemen"
Exactly. A term far too polite for them.
well said.!!
Thanks!
Man...every net that has come on a feq I was using has been super nice. Someone would hit me up and say a net was starting in 20 minutes but they could use alternate freq if need be. I would sot there for 20 minutes making contacts with all their usuals and then rolled out. I would have done the same thing if they were rude. Then the next time I go activate I would make sure its on their frequency at that time and run an amp. Great job
I have shifted an activation many times with a polite request from a net control or someone waiting to participate on the net. Hell I have gotten something like 20 QSOs on an activation from people waiting on the net also and then I QSY my happy little VFO out of there a couple of minutes before they start. All it takes is a simple polite request. But if they think they own the frequency they have another thing coming. I'm done shifting or stoping my activation on account of a jerk.
For him to come on the frequency 45 minutes before the net start and *tell* me that I *had* to move for their established net was bad enough. Then he started calling for early net checkins and telling them to ignore the guy on the frequency. Nope, not going to shift for that. I'm staying right there.
@@LifeAtTerminalVelocity that's facts right there.
Good for you I am glad you explained yourself on RUclips because they were wrong
Thank you Jason. I have been asked many times by Net Controls to QSY with ample time to do so and I have done so. We are supposed to be cordial to one another, these guys think that they own 14.347. Pathetic if you ask me.
@@LifeAtTerminalVelocity yep I agree you did the same thing I would have done great job. Ki5zaz 73
Well said Carlos
Thank you Don.
Well stated son 👏👏👏
A mi me preguntaron "¿Por que no le dices algo mas fuerte?", y respondí "Porque a mi no me criaron así."
Yes rude people should get fined. Yeah, I know that is unlikely. I remember some OMs telling me to come to ham radio since the Cb crowd was rude and obnoxious. Well that didn’t work out. The rude people are all over.
Thanks Brent. I won't hold my breath with the FCC but I will keep on recording activations just in case.
Being polite is a lost skill these days old friend.. Tragic. PS - G'luck!
One would think that these fellas being of an older generation would have learned that a long time ago. I suppose not. Nevertheless, I shall POTA On and continue to play radio. I am not going to let them get the best of me.
I got you, I've not heard such a rude bunch ever. Nasty Karens with manly voices.
Thank you.
amen, i was listening to that bs
Man I kept it as polite and professional as I could.
I was wondering if either of you knew ya'll were on top of each other earlier, good for you by the sounds of it, it didn't really slow down your activation. Good to get you in the books 73- KJ5CKG
Thanks for the QSO Miguel. Sadly it had to come to what it did. They need to learn that they do not own the frequency.
Couldn't agree more, hope to catch you on the air again soon
they do that to pota all the time
Well I aim to change that. They are going to get so sick and tired of me activating on 14.347MHz that they are either going to move or learn to deal with me.
I have zero respect for the Spiderweb net. They did the same thing to me more than once. I guess rag chewing about sick cats and bad knee's supersede a POTA activation.
I don't have any issues with the rag chewing nets, as long as they clear the frequency first.
@@LifeAtTerminalVelocity when the frq is in use and they come on talking about that crap without checking if freq is in use. Then start the net and tell me to qsy we got a problem
I worked you mobile on 12-15 right through the QRM. You were never unreadable. Polite operators 1, Spider Net 0. POTA ON CARLOS!
Thank you Steven.
Well I wasn’t there , BUT it’s possible nobody can hear you from wherever the parties that were talking, it does happen and just FYI I’m not taking sides I’m only giving a opinion actually it’s possible the truth of the deal. Also when hams are contesting calling DX I have seen it happen a million times 500 plus people calling DX like there the only ham on the band besides the contacts there talking with propagation, the gray line and the sun cycle all play a part of sorry you had a run of bad luck, also I thought the Spiderweb net was a morning to around noon net and your saying tonight? Anyhow 73”s from Kg4muk
Except the fella that was trying to act as net control came on the frequency about 45 minute before and *told* me that I would have to move for the net. Then proceeded to tell people to ignore the POTA. Hell he even acknowledged my call when he started calling for early checkins and I told him that the frequency was already in use. So, that guy clearly knew that I was there before. All he had to do was ask politely and I would have moved. But he decided that because that net has been on that frequency for a long time that he can just take over the frequency. Oh and I have recordings of all this. Lovely how newer radios let you do that.
@@LifeAtTerminalVelocity yeah I’d say with that being said that sucks a@@ one thing I can tell you is when the FCC decided to make changes too the structure of our licensing system and the test that is being implemented HamRadio has gained a few lids and Chickin Bander’s with bad habits and some can be helped and there is a few that just don’t give two cents, the hobby has its good value and it has its bad I just wish it would go back to the way it used to be.
It's the LOTA's (Losers On The Air) like you who don't look up frequencies and Nets to see who uses what frequency and observe their operation that give new Hams a bad name. But that seems to be the way society plays today. You don't even look on the POTA site to see if another POTA operator Is on the same frequency as you, and you key up on each other without asking if the frequency is in use. I guess I shouldn't expect much from someone that appears to live under a freeway.
Let me guess, you are the loser that came in trying to take me out of the frequency I had already been on? Keyboard warriors like you are the reason this hobby has such a hard time gaining traction. You are a disgrace to your generation.
