  • Randy Piper is one of the founding members of W.A.S.P. Randy has relocated to the Seattle area and is in the process of putting together a powerhouse band. Here is an old classic off of W.A.S.P.s 1984 self titled album performed at a memorial show for Alice In Chains bassist Mike Starr @ Seattle's Studio Seven.

      You can't make some one do something they don't want to do. Randy's exit couldn't be stopped. When Blackie got too controlling he called it quits. Plus he stood in Chris's shadow. I'd quit too under those circumstances.

    Haha, way to go Randy! I used to go see them at the Troubadour in '83 when I was 13! I was just waiting for that Caddy guitar to start pumpin' smoke outta those exhaust pipes. Randy said he knew it was over when Blackie was showing him the cover art for The Last Command. Blackie was like, "So the cover will have ME like this, and the back will have ME like that, and the inside will have ME like so," etc. He said it wasn't feeling like a band anymore. And sure enough, things began to fracture on the next record (Electric Circus), basically because Randy was the one guy who wouldn't take Blackie's shit, since he'd been with him from the very start. Read "Sting In The Tale" by Darren Upton. Try Ebay.

      @creepshowcrate 5 лет назад +2

      @@atarikid6719 Yeah, I have Rudy's book, but I find him so intensely boring, I couldn't even finish it. The details about Randy are the only reason to crack that book at all. I remember being at a book store and reading a book (that I swear was Rudy's, according to my hazy memory) and it told a story about the band being at the beach, and Randy was talking about leaving the band (he hated having to record what would later become the "Tribute" album and play all those Sabbath songs, and was obviously redone by Brad Gillis) and a completely wasted and pissed-ff Ozzy decked Randy into the shallow water they stood in. That's why, years later, I bought Rudy Sarzo's book, to read about that particular incident again, but it's not in there! It's just Rudy, being lethally boring the entire time.

But when you put Randy Piper and Chris Holmes twin monster guitar slaying and Blackies haunting vocals on stage together it works musically. Problem was as I followed diff parts of the performance this close to the stage, the sound would drop off. I learned something from that. Best to just use a tripod and focus in from some distance back. As far as the sound, Piper loved the video and wanted to have the file to see if he can fix it. Him and Craig Church (the other guitarist) fixed that.

    any seen Randy in the last several years? It's gotta be rough on him. He's in his late 60's with absolutely nothing. He gave everything up for music has nothing to show for it.

      Ran into both Randy and Chris Holmes together at NAMM in Anaheim a few years back. Both were extremely nice. Randy was very cool. They both posed for a photo and Randy gave me one of his signature guitar picks. Dream moment for a W.A.S.P fan like myself.
