I was so nervous to post this because it's more personal than anything I've ever posted on RUclips, but I really wanted to inspire others with this! Let me know what questions you have about gastric sleeve or weight loss in general! :)
I'm so happy that you had the strength to share your story. You pretty much explained my life story, I've been so stressed and depressed I couldn't express my pain without crying 😭. I find support through your channel. I called to make an appointment today for a gastric sleeve consult, recommended by my cardiologist yesterday.
Thank you so much for posting this. I have been the same weight for almost over 8 years and I want to do better for myself but I am nervous I know I can do it but I wanted to get a personal view of someone that has went through it and so thank you so much.
I want to applaud you, I'm from St. Louis first and foremost so woot woot!!! Your story not only inspires others, but I can understand how hard it is to be vulnerable for putting your life story on social media. So many of us Americans struggle with food issues daily. Dr.'s always say loose weight eat healthy...lol but it's hard for people to change drastically when they are so use to eating things they normally eat. This becomes mental and emotional. Thank you for your story....
"Telling us that we'll lose weight if we just diet and exercise is like telling an alcoholic not to go to a bar." Girl, I had chills at that. I've never heard that comparison but that really opened my eyes to this. It's so easy to say that surgery is "taking the easy way out" but that's really not the case. Beautiful story that was beautifully told. Thank you for this!
Thank you so much! You're so right that it's easy to brush it off, but people who haven't been in those situations have no idea how hard it is to get out of it.
My gf is at the hospital today April 11th 2022 getting the gastric bypass surgery. She weights 295lbs. I’m so excited to see the changes in her life. I’m going later tonight after work to visit her at the hospital and give her a big hug 🤗
@@kennedylightfoot5877 yes she's doing great. She's doing pilates now and also she has a personal trainer at her local gym. She weights 250 right now. I'm very proud of her
You look so great! I don’t have the guts to do surgery so I’m trying to do it on my own. I’m down 14 pounds so far. Cant wait until I’m at goal like you. Great job!!
Thank you so much!! And that's great work so far! Yeah, it was definitely scary and not an easy decision to make. Ultimately, I'm glad that I did it, but I also understand that it's not the right choice for everyone :)
I JUST had my sleeve done 4 days ago and I’m so excited to finally get to a healthier me! Would love some “what I eat in a day” videos from you guys please ❤️
Thank you for being so transparent- life is a journey, but when you get hit with emotional and physical challenges close to each other, the struggle can be overwhelming. I’m so thrilled that you found your way and your family is healthy and thriving. God bless you! ♥️🙏🏻
I am getting the gastric sleeve on July 17, 2023 and I am SUPER excited! It's not because I will be smaller and sexier lol - it's more so because I want to finally get off these medications I am currently taking...high blood pressure, knee injections - using a C-PAP machine when I go to bed. I am excited about getting healthier and being able to physically do things I used to do prior to gaining this weight.
You're journey is so much like mine with the weight and the stress/emotional eating. I am 275 now, the most I've ever weighed in my life. My knees hurt, body aches and feet and ankles are always swollen.
My VSG Sister .. I was sleeved December 2017 & I also live in St. Louis.. I was 60 when I was sleeved & I have loss 150 lbs. I am in Barnes Jewish bariatric program.. Best decision I ever made. I am able to do things I haven't done in years.
Msgranny17able - I just made my appointment with Barnes/washington university bariatric clinic. I’m 57 and concerned my age and health issues would complicate things. Thank you for sharing your success!
I just had my gastric sleeve on 4/15 I’m in so much pain. I wish they would prepare us more for pain but then it would probably scare people away. This is the beginning of a new journey for me I can’t wait to see my result and look as amazing as you and your hubby do. ❤️ I am so proud of you two.
Thank you for sharing your story. You and your beautiful family have overcome a lot. Some people would have thrown up their hands and gave up but you all dug in and made the changes needed to gain a better quality of life. I can only imagine how difficult the last few years have been on you but I'm happy you all are seeing the light on the other side. Many congratulations on your progress and continued success.
I don't ever comment here but thank you so much for putting the video together. I'm in the process of getting the VSG this year and I still go back and forth debating if I want it done. You shared your story in such a beautiful and positive light, despite all the hurdles life that's thrown at you. I admire your energy and kind spirit and I can genuinely this has motivated me to continue with the surgery. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
So sorry you had heartache around yourself children. I feel so bad you went through those times. My daughter has epilepsy and seizures are no joke. I'm happy you and hubby were able to get the surgery and transform your lives. It will be so much better for the family in general. Much love and blessings to you.
I’m very strongly considering getting this surgery for myself and I see so much of myself in what you were talking about with the stress eating, unable to find a diet that works, having people not understand how much harder it is for others to not understand how an addiction to food TRULY is like an addiction to drugs, yet almost worse in a way bc nobody generally thinks of food as a drug in itself. Nor are there “rehabs” necessarily like there are for drug addicts. It’s also interesting because yours is the first video I’ve seen since thinking about it, and like your husband I own my own semi. That’s actually what my RUclips channel is about. Lol. But I’ve been driving 14 years and I’ve owned my own truck over 4 years, and this lifestyle absolutely doesn’t help the eating and things like that. So I applaud him and you both. A friend of mine got this surgery a few months back as well, which is what initially got me thinking on it, and her transformation has been, just like yours and your husbands, nothing short of miraculous.
I am so happy for you guys!!! My older sister had the gastric bypass, and she is doing sooo much better! I am considering surgery myself as my weight as been causing serious issues with my other ailments I already have. I also have issues with using food to help with pain, but for me it's to help with physical pain.
You are a strong woman. Bless you and your beautiful family for sharing your story. I’m considering getting this because I’m fighting an uphill battle with hypothyroidism and the weight is just becoming to much. Your story makes me think I am finally ready to take that step.
I’m one month as of yesterday away from surgery. I’m extremely nervous but excited. I’ve never been a big person until we lost our house to Hurricane Harvey then Covid. Such a dark place but I’m so ready to be back to me! I’m 220 and ready to be 150 again.
My doctor and I are talking about this and I’m thinking about doing it. I think I’ve already made my mind. I feel that the most emotional part will be seeing the weight drop over the months. I can see myself crying in the bathroom happy I made a decision that will give my wife and children more time with me.
It’s been a year since your surgery, please share some more of your experience. Are you still losing weight? Has your diet/pallet changed? What is your daily meal routine/ vitamins? Hopefully my surgery will happen before the end of this month if not for sure January, any advice?
Hey there :) I am currently on my optifast diet prior to gastric bypass surgery. On day 3 of 5 weeks of optifast. My surgery is booked for December, 13th, 2023. I am the highest weight I've ever been. I always battled my weight since I was a kid as well, and also had moments where I lost a lot of weight through clean eating and exercise. I unfortunately would yo-yo from stressful unpredictable situations and gain it all back plus some. I am now 34, I have two sons ages 11 and 8, and I am done digging my grave with a fork and spoon. I will admit that I have been really reluctant and nervous to get this surgery, but after much research and discussion with my family, I decided to do it.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I am contemplating weight loss surgery. I have had rheumatoid arthritis since 2011. I was able to lose close to 50 lbs on the keto diet a couple of years ago but couldn't sustain on it and ended up gaining 70 through 2020 and 2021. I am embarrassed to take pictures, even go to the gym anymore because I hate looking in the mirror there. I also hate to cook. It's so easy to go to fast food, buy already made food at Costco. I don't know how to get started. I don't know if my mind is ready to pursue anything at all. Please pray for me.
Omg CC. You sound like me. I lost 70 pounds went from a sz18 and got down to a 4. I took pictures all over lol well my mom died ( I did keep it off for 7 years) but I than went into a depression and gave up and in the last 3 years I've put it all back on. I wont take no pictures I dont even like looking at myself putting make up on. I loved being g thin. So ice decided to have weight loss surgery. My insurance already approved it and in 2 weeks I go to the doctor and dietitian. So I'm excited. I'm scared to have surgery lol. My niece had it and looks great said she hates food now she never feels like eatting. She makes herself eat. No cravings or hungwr
Wow, I can really relate to this. My surgery is today in four hours. My wife and I both really started using food as self-medication after our three-year-old almost died from a two-hour seizure caused by meningitis. She had another one this past year (the first one caused damage that makes her susceptible to these when she gets sick). Both times she had to be flown to a Children's hospital to save her life. Our stress has been through the roof for years, and we medicate ourselves with food. I'm hoping today's surgery is the first step to reversing all that damage.
Found you randomly on YT and so happy I did! I had VSG June of this year, my fiancé is also a trucker, I'm an avid simmer and live in STL! Small world ;-) Congrats to you and your hubs on the journey and hopefully your babes are doing well!
I'm doing much much better some days it's challenge but most days I'm getting used to it just having trouble taking my vitamins I'm starting to feel more confident and just loving my weight-loss Journey
Thank you for sharing. I really appreciate hearing your story. I’m doing gastric sleeve surgery on March 8th and also had to do a 6 month nutrition course. I’m very excited for my own journey and feel reassured when I hear others’ experiences.
Wow you've been through so much! Both of you. We all know how hateful and judgmental people can be and the fact that you still chose to share your story says a lot. It is greatly appreciated. thank you for your transparency. Congratulations to you both and Blessings to your family.
I just had my sleeve sjrg and this was very inspirational for me, only ten days ago... i got quite sick and had to stay in hospital to get antibiotics regularely... now i am afraid if i dont succeed with this.. thank you for shareing 🙏😍
Thank you so much for sharing your story! I’ve done 2/6 nutritionist visits and my psych eval so far. I’ve been overweight my entire life (177lbs in 4th grade), and listening to your success gives me so much hope ❤️
That is a LOT of health issues for one family. It must have been so hard and depressing, I can totally understand why your comfort ate as a family. Congratulations on your weight loss and new found health.
Absolutely incredible story. God bless you. Thank you for the information. And the way you presented it. It will definitely help me with my upcoming procedure. Thank you again.
I appreciate you sharing your journey.. because I'm I'm the process doing the same surgery. You are being honest and truthful on the pain level.. I'm scared
Wow what an amazing life story.. I'm sorry for your loss🙏... I'm happy y'all pull through sometimes when we are big people we tend to do less activities throughout the day, and it could take a toll out of us we get lazier, and abandoned ourselves... Thx for sharing 💓
I'm getting the surgery on the 30th, my initial weigh in was 246, but I'm now on the liver shrinking diet and I'm down to 230, losing six pounds in seven days.
congratulations on your weight loss journey. I'd like to hear more about the life after surgery months down the road . things you never hear about is dealing with the possible cravings!? , are you able to ever eat a candy bar once in a while ? are there certain foods you can no longer eat ?? I'd love to get more insight from you on these things
My hyperimisis lasted all 9 months, an hour after we gave birth it was gone. Hospitalized over and over.. 10x in 1 month, and they wanted to add a pic line in.
I had gastric sleeve 11 months ago. I was 244 at the start of my weight loss journey but I’ve only lost 66 pounds in 11 months! How in the world did you lose 120 pounds in 8 months? I wasn’t required to talk to a nutritionist but one time and that was just a phone call. Six months with a nutritionist would have been so helpful. Anyway, I’m 62 and maybe since I’m older than you my metabolism is slower? I am so disappointed to go to my one year checkup next month and only be down 66 pounds. But what do you think I could do to get these last 34 pounds off? I really wanted to lose 100 pounds😥
I want to go to a Skilled Nursing Facility after getting the gastric sleeve in September. I think that wld be a good place to go so a doctor can monitor my health and immediately address any complications. Did you go to a Skilled Nursing Facility post-op? Did you need to use a bedpan post-op? If you cld go to a Skilled Nursing Facility would you have gone for two weeks in hindsight?
Recovery was great! I was a little sore, but I was walking around the hospital within an hour of waking up from surgery :) I do still get cravings from time to time, but not nearly as bad as they were before. Occasionally, I indulge a little bit, but it’s all ok in moderation! I actually just had a small oatmeal cookie and that should satisfy me for the rest of the evening 😃
I’m 48 I have been fighting the dragon for years, I even had a failed lap band. To sum up everything, you have to eat food to live. That’s why it’s so hard to deal with. I have been eating properly and I go for walks every day. I know what a proper portion size is I know how many calories are in food, I know how to cook. I’m looking into the sleeve for a tool, I have no idea what it’s like to be thin, so I wouldn’t be doing this to be thin, I just want to stay the size I am. All in all, I need a tool.
I have my surgery on March 23 2022.. and I feel pain in my belly but just in one of my side next to my bellybutton still pain I feel when I wake up or walking ..
Love you videos I learn so much! Thanks for sharing your journey I know its tough creating videos about yourself. I hate doing it but it helps me let out stress on my VSG journey.
Thank you!! It was not easy to upload this one because there are a lot of negative opinions about weight loss surgery and I was SO nervous to open up and put my story out here. But everyone has been so supportive and I'm feeling really thankful! I hope that I can continue to inspire others and maybe help put minds at ease. This really was the best choice my husband and I could have made. I have no regrets! :)
It’s 3 years out since this video first was posted, I’d be curious to know how the battle goes now. I found that around year 3 bad things started happening and crap became real. Up until then, it was all too easy. I started eating fairly normally, and like most other humans beings. I am now more than 13 years out. I went to being carnivore in the first part of this year. I was always low on iron. And felt I couldn’t eat meat. Truth was I filled up on everything before I got to my meat, and that was my problem. So now I eat my meat first. And then I’m done. Usually one burger patty and some butter is all I need to fill up. Occasionally I have a decent size ribeye steak. But I eat almost 2,000 calories a day, compared to closer to 800, I’m never hungry, never get cravings for junk or sugar, chocolate, potatoe chips, or French fries. 🤷🏼♀️. I’ve lost 65 pounds since Dec 11 (although I started with Intermittent fasting and Mediterranean diet for a couple months, and then slowly went carnivore when I started prioritizing my proteins)
Thank you for sharing your experience. I want to get a gastric sleeve surgery too. I’m really scared to tell my mom about it. But I want this surgery so badly. How long take you to recovery? Did you need stay in hospital for a few days? Is it really painful?
Congrats on your surgery!! :) It was a change for sure, but neither me nor my husband had any complications. Each day got easier as time went on. The main focuses in those early days were drinking water, getting your protein shakes/protein water and walking! Best of luck! You got this! :)
Thanks! I appreciate the feedback !! I am on to stage 2 phase. So I am moving along! However I do have a drain out of stomach. I go back on the 23rd. Thank god hopefully they take it out.
This was so good. Thank you so much for sharing your story. It brought me to tears! I'm so sorry that you and your family went through such a traumatic patch but the fact that you were able to pull out of that and completely change your lives for the better is truly inspiring!! Great job!! Looking forward to seeing more videos on gastric sleeve surgery. I don't really know a lot about it!
I’m so glad that things are so much better for you and I hope your sons conditions improves. Do you think your daughter will end up having random seizures? Also how hard was your post op? Do you use a food scale to weigh all your food? Loved your video! :)
Thank you so much!! Post-op really wasn't bad at all! I was walking around about an hour after I woke up from surgery :) And I hope my daughter doesn't have the same condition as my son. Luckily, we've been able to keep both of them home instead of going to daycare, so she's really only been sick once in her life! And yes, I use a food scale most of the time. I'm really bad about putting too much coffee creamer in my coffee, so it REALLY helps with that!
🥺 everything you said on here is me. I can't get on the bed my knees hurt hard to bend, my knees are swollen.. they hurt even more when having arthritis.
Great video and so helpful. Did you have robotic surgery or laparoscopic surgery -- I am near the decision to do it-- that is my final decision:) -- I need to go from 320 - 210. Thanks
So funny I'm living in Texas looking at your video, then I hear you say saint Louis Missouri girl I was born at Barnes hospital in saint louis so funny, small world. Congrats
I’m having the sleeve done in May this year. I weigh 122kg I have sleep apnea and pre diabetic so I think if I get this it will get rid of those things Did you loose breast fat? I’m just asking because I’m a girl
Are you all from st.Louis? Is here a VSG post op support group you guys apart of? 😅 I need help a lot.. I had surgery at April 15,2022 and I want to finally use my tool the right way. I was the same weight as Tom and it’s about to be 6 months soon and I’m so scared. Please help
Omg! I am in the process of getting GB but I have been so scared because I suffered from HG during my pregnancies. I am so scared to get the surgery and be sick all the time. I have been trying to find someone who had HG during pregnancy and had wls. Have you been nauseous or dehydrated at all?
Ah! I'm so sorry you had HG. It was one of the worst things I've ever gone through. I don't get nauseous or dehydrated now though! I do try to drink water all throughout the day and it's definitely something you have to focus harder on and make sure you're taking sips throughout the day because you can't guzzle water after surgery. But I haven't had any dehydration issues 😊 I only got sick two or three times after surgery, but it was entirely my fault because I didn't chew my food thoroughly enough, and I felt so much better right after I vomited vs still feeling nauseous after vomiting when I had HG. I hope that provides some insight for you! Best of luck on your journey!

Wow, I’m so sorry to hear that all happened! How are you doing now that you’ve been sleeved?
This SPEAKS to me!! My husband and I also had dark times that we binge-ate and that was our happiness… I am 3 weeks post op from RNY
very inspiring., the strength that it took for you and mr .tom to overcome the tough times ,blew my mind off
I totally understand the correlation between HG and binging. I went through the same thing. ♥️
Found you randomly on YT and so happy I did! I had VSG June of this year, my fiancé is also a trucker, I'm an avid simmer and live in STL! Small world ;-) Congrats to you and your hubs on the journey and hopefully your babes are doing well!
One of the best videos without boring talking. Thanks
You guys look amazing!
Waiting on my appointment to be booked for the sleeve. I cannot wait!
I’m happy to hear you and your fam got through that rough time. 🙏🏽♥️

How are both of you guys doing ? I have my first appointment on June 13th 2022 I’m very scared.
I'm doing much much better some days it's challenge but most days I'm getting used to it just having trouble taking my vitamins I'm starting to feel more confident and just loving my weight-loss Journey
And thanks for asking
Thank you for sharing. I really appreciate hearing your story. I’m doing gastric sleeve surgery on March 8th and also had to do a 6 month nutrition course. I’m very excited for my own journey and feel reassured when I hear others’ experiences.
Wow you've been through so much! Both of you. We all know how hateful and judgmental people can be and the fact that you still chose to share your story says a lot. It is greatly appreciated. thank you for your transparency. Congratulations to you both and Blessings to your family.
This is so raw and honest. Love this. Thank you for uploading this awesome video!
Thanks for sharing. My wife is going to do this and I'm so nervous for her. I was the guy saying, just diet and exercise
I'm having the gastric sleeve on June 28th. I'm so ready for a change.
How did it go
After all the videos I’ve seen, this is the best most positive video I’ve seen , and how sweet we are in the same state♥️
Thank you so much!! And yes!! That’s amazing!! Hi friend! ❤️❤️
You are BEAUTIFUL! Thank you for sharing your journey with us.
I just had my sleeve sjrg and this was very inspirational for me, only ten days ago... i got quite sick and had to stay in hospital to get antibiotics regularely... now i am afraid if i dont succeed with this.. thank you for shareing 🙏😍
Is love to see a “What we eat in a day” follow up. Not just about eating healthy, but more about the amounts of food & liquid.
Excellent story. Congrats to you and Tom.
The after pictures are always glowing with clear skin.
Great video,i had my vsg on October 13th 2021,i have lost 40lbs already surgery went well
Absolutely incredible story.
Wow man, I felt that, all the challeges you guys went through
Im sorry for the pain you went through, but so happy for how beautiful and HEALTHY you look now
congratulations on your weight loss journey. I'd like to hear more about the life after surgery months down the road . things you never hear about is dealing with the possible cravings!? , are you able to ever eat a candy bar once in a while ? are there certain foods you can no longer eat ?? I'd love to get more insight from you on these things
Histoplasmosis?
I got approved for my surgery, so I'm just starting my journey. I'm excited and terrified at the same time.
My hyperimisis lasted all 9 months, an hour after we gave birth it was gone. Hospitalized over and over.. 10x in 1 month, and they wanted to add a pic line in.
I'd love to see a follow up video about learning how to eat healthily again!
Noted! It was an interesting journey learning to eat healthily, especially in the first few weeks post op! :)
I had mine 3 weeks ago and i am not losing as much as I was expecting 😔
I appreciate your honesty. My mom was talking in the past of getting surgery.
Do you mind me asking about the excess skin ?
I want to go to a Skilled Nursing Facility after getting the gastric sleeve in September. I think that wld be a good place to go so a doctor can monitor my health and immediately address any complications.
Did you go to a Skilled Nursing Facility post-op?
Did you need to use a bedpan post-op?
If you cld go to a Skilled Nursing Facility would you have gone for two weeks in hindsight?
You are a wonderful speaker and a darling personality! What all you have been through and yet successfully lost your wt iis so commendable
Thank you so much! :)
Wow!!! Great results 👏 I just started my weight loss journey 3 months ago
Thanks for sharing! ☺️ How was the recovery? Did you still have the urge to eat what you used to or did your appetite decrease after surgery?
Recovery was great! I was a little sore, but I was walking around the hospital within an hour of waking up from surgery :) I do still get cravings from time to time, but not nearly as bad as they were before. Occasionally, I indulge a little bit, but it’s all ok in moderation! I actually just had a small oatmeal cookie and that should satisfy me for the rest of the evening 😃
Hi neighbor, “MO here” I’m here for your journey, you have a beautiful family.
This vid was sooooooooo good
Thanks so much
Y’all look amazing
I love the collective approach
God bless you both
I have my surgery on March 23 2022.. and I feel pain in my belly but just in one of my side next to my bellybutton still pain I feel when I wake up or walking ..
I have my first appointment with my surgeon on September 9. I’m excited and nervous at the same time
Who did your surgery? I’m from STL. Looking at Arch Bariatrics near sunset hills.
I’m in that place where much of my pleasure comes from eating moments, like you guys were in.
Hi what were some of the liquids you drink after your surgery? You both look amazing!
How was the before surgery process ? Was it a lot of appointments? And what kind ?
Thank you for sharing your experience. I want to get a gastric sleeve surgery too. I’m really scared to tell my mom about it. But I want this surgery so badly. How long take you to recovery? Did you need stay in hospital for a few days? Is it really painful?
I enjoyed listening to your story! Very inspirational.
What a journey! I am so happy for you guys.
I had my gastric sleeve on 7/8 and it’s rough!! How did you cope with after surgery?? I’d love to hear your stories!!
My doctor recommended I get the sleeve but I'm so scared, nervous, and worried. Any and all information is welcomed
Thank you so much!! Yes, we're doing SOOO much better now! ❤
Thankyou this is so helpful I’m booked into seen my surgeon and am nervous but excited all in one lol
Good luck!! It's had its ups and downs, but mainly ups. I'm so glad that I had the surgery. My entire life has improved! You've got this!! ❤

Thank you for sharing 🤩 what you did with the extra skin that remains after you get skinny?
Great peeps 🙏 thanks for inspiration
Disabled Vet struggling for life changing options. Weight loss is primary
I had surgery in June 2022 and so far I have lost 70 lbs since surgery and 85 since January 2022
Really inspiring story and I hope all is well with everyone❤️
I’m 16 and my surgery is 2 months away
I love your story. My surgery date is next Thursday.
Great video and so helpful. Did you have robotic surgery or laparoscopic surgery -- I am near the decision to do it-- that is my final decision:) -- I need to go from 320 - 210. Thanks

Hi ladybugggg!! New subscriber here!! I see you haven’t uploaded in some time, is there a new channel to kee up w you? ☺️♥️
I am also in your area and just started the process.
Please help
Nice I can’t wait to do my gastric sleeeve soon
