What if they lose more weight before surgery and they are now below the 40 BMI mark & they didn't have any secondary issues like diabetes etc... Are they still able to get the surgery?
Hi Doc I'm going on 3mon and I'm only down 27lbs and I have been walking 3 to 4miles 5 to 7 days a week. I'm drinking 64 to 96oz of water and eating much as I can take in. I feel I have been stalled for all most 2months.
u could be starving yourself or u could be simply eating alot of calories believe it or not before surgery i would have a protein bar morning and then for lunch takis or jalapeño bread or anything i liked below 1000 calories and then for dinner protein bar i also exercise'd carbs helped me get through thr day anyways i was shredding pounds got the surgery for the long run but i know i could easily have kept the weight off and still ate unhealthy i drank like 5 diet sodas a day, so there's your answer number #1 thing is exercise carbs helped me do a great workout and i felt so good, don't listen to these food nazis who have never tried losing weight on their own and them saying oh no soda no sugar, those won't instantly make u gain weight it's a lie they try to shove in your face
I will have my surgery in September and can you believe this is the thing that scares me the most? I'm not afraid to miss other foods, but sodas (like diet coke) used to be a great way to have a taste of something sweet and thus avoid eating a chocolate or cake etc 😞
Once your sleeve heals, your body will be able to consume carbonated beverages again. Eating and drinking in the first few weeks is not fun, but it will pass with time as your stomach repairs. I’m 22 months post and eating or drinking is essentially back to normal except with a much more limited capacity.
Answer me this question, Dr. Alvarez. I have sleep apnea, and I use a bi-pap machine? Should I be concerned about getting gastric sleeve surgery? Please, let me know the lowdown. Peace.
Can I be honest? I’m really considering getting this. I am probably 160-180 pounds over weight. But food Has always been my comfort. When I’m sad, or angry, or stressed, happy…food is my comfort. It really is like an addiction. And if I can’t eat like I used to, I’m genuinely worried about what my next addiction will be. I know I shouldn’t worry about that, but I do. And I love seltzer. One of my favorite things to drink is seltzer water. I can’t imagine not being able to drink that 😔
Transfer addiction is a real issue... make sure to line up therapy if you decide to get the surgery. I'm 9 months out and 140 lbs down. 50ish to go. I have my life back.
exercise and eat protein bars so exercise alot like walk alot and eat protein bar like quest it will make u stop thinking about food oh and ofc sleep on time make a habit of this in a month you eill be shredding pounds no need for surgery as it is not needed if u can follow this diet sodas is ok u may get gastritis, takis gave me gastritis, but u can definitely have protein bar for morning walk then for lunch a quesadilla anything that's below 1000 calories but still be mindful about calories the most unhealthy stuff i ate was between 500 to 800 calories i ate unhealthy for lunch for carbs and to boost my endorphins to feel good, because food is delicious and for dinner i had protein bar once again quest, after the surgery though u will lose your freedom for food u will most likely stick to stuff high in protein the best u can have is meatball and chicken or tuna salad but mostly premier protein etc...
I don’t understand doc I was told everything about the surgery, but the psychological things I’m having problems with depression, not wanting to be around people too much all these mine things that are going on in my head was never told these things would be an issue after having the surgery can you help me with this?
Hi Dr A! I'll be 7 months PO on Friday & sadly, I've already broken all 6 of these guidelines! I've only lost 54 lbs thus far & I know these things are the reason. How can I detox again & break these awful habits? I keep going back to the Pre-op Liquid Diet, but I can't stick with it for more than a day. Am I forever doomed? 😢
Hello from a fellow patient. Maybe try to stop one thing only for a few days and then the next one. Also, if you feel you may be a food addict, you might consider Overeaters Anonymous. Good luck!
@@laureneeheman5981 Thank you, Lauren! I know someone who went thru OA. I'm actually going to look into that program. The idea of cutting one habit at a time makes sense. I just don't understand why I can't do the pre-op diet as well as I did it before surgery. 😢
The sleeve is simply a tool to help limit caloric intake. Diet and exercise are still necessary. A liquid diet is not a sustainable long-term solution. Counting your caloric intake will help you achieve the caloric deficit necessary to reach your weight loss goals.
diet coke is definitely ok and it does help u lose weight compared to regular i definitely recommend it, it boosts your endorphins and there's no readon to not drink it unless u feel sick from it or u don't exercise

I am 1 month post op and ive lost 40 pounds so far. I am going by the book with everything but i struggle with not using straws or chewing gum 😭
Great advises
Thank you Dr for explaining ❤️❤️
What if they lose more weight before surgery and they are now below the 40 BMI mark & they didn't have any secondary issues like diabetes etc... Are they still able to get the surgery?
Thank you so much Doctor!
Thank you Doctor A!
Hi Doc I'm going on 3mon and I'm only down 27lbs and I have been walking 3 to 4miles 5 to 7 days a week. I'm drinking 64 to 96oz of water and eating much as I can take in. I feel I have been stalled for all most 2months.
I think you may be eating too much. Did you see a nutritionist
u could be starving yourself or u could be simply eating alot of calories believe it or not before surgery i would have a protein bar morning and then for lunch takis or jalapeño bread or anything i liked below 1000 calories and then for dinner protein bar i also exercise'd carbs helped me get through thr day anyways i was shredding pounds got the surgery for the long run but i know i could easily have kept the weight off and still ate unhealthy i drank like 5 diet sodas a day, so there's your answer number #1 thing is exercise carbs helped me do a great workout and i felt so good, don't listen to these food nazis who have never tried losing weight on their own and them saying oh no soda no sugar, those won't instantly make u gain weight it's a lie they try to shove in your face
I will have my surgery in September and can you believe this is the thing that scares me the most? I'm not afraid to miss other foods, but sodas (like diet coke) used to be a great way to have a taste of something sweet and thus avoid eating a chocolate or cake etc 😞
Me, too! I managed for four months no diet coke. It definitely adds gas so I am trying to quit again.
Once your sleeve heals, your body will be able to consume carbonated beverages again. Eating and drinking in the first few weeks is not fun, but it will pass with time as your stomach repairs. I’m 22 months post and eating or drinking is essentially back to normal except with a much more limited capacity.
drink Your soda I just waited 6 months and I only drink zero sugar soda
It has been 2 months since my gastric sleeve and I can say I really don't miss soda at all (at least for now) 😁
I am 5 years out from the sleeve surgery… could you talk about how important it is to take your vitamins?
Answer me this question, Dr. Alvarez. I have sleep apnea, and I use a bi-pap machine? Should I be concerned about getting gastric sleeve surgery? Please, let me know the lowdown. Peace.

5 days post op....very helpful.thank you
Hi! How do you feel now?! Any regrets?
The surgery won't do anything except reduce the size of your stomach. Turning to food for comfort is an emotional issue that surgery doesn't fix
exercise and eat protein bars so exercise alot like walk alot and eat protein bar like quest it will make u stop thinking about food oh and ofc sleep on time make a habit of this in a month you eill be shredding pounds no need for surgery as it is not needed if u can follow this diet sodas is ok u may get gastritis, takis gave me gastritis, but u can definitely have protein bar for morning walk then for lunch a quesadilla anything that's below 1000 calories but still be mindful about calories the most unhealthy stuff i ate was between 500 to 800 calories i ate unhealthy for lunch for carbs and to boost my endorphins to feel good, because food is delicious and for dinner i had protein bar once again quest, after the surgery though u will lose your freedom for food u will most likely stick to stuff high in protein the best u can have is meatball and chicken or tuna salad but mostly premier protein etc...
I gave up all soda's after my sleeve - its been 3yrs and I still don't drink soda

@ thankyou so much doc. God bless you
I don’t understand doc I was told everything about the surgery, but the psychological things I’m having problems with depression, not wanting to be around people too much all these mine things that are going on in my head was never told these things would be an issue after having the surgery can you help me with this?
You need supplements your body needs extra vitamins
it been 10 almost 2week since i had my surgery i already lost over 20 lbs
Wow!
update i lost over 1 month since my surgery im down to 350 from 380 I was 425 in may
that was me when i started losing weight without the surgery.
Prayer can help JESUS CAN HELP
Gum and Straws were never provided. Thank you because I've been drinking water out of my straw and feeling the bloating from air.
gum is tasty i am almost 4 weeks post op
In the process of getting mine done and it’s going to be difficult to give up soda.
why u getting it done u don't need to

#askdra will sleeve surgery help with binge eating disorder?
Absolutely not
nope exercise like walking and eating a quest protein bar will help with that
the more u walk the less likely u care for food it definitely helps, the protein bar makes u full fast and sleeping on time helps to
Thank you doctor, i had my gastric sleeve surgery 2 weeks ago. One thing that i can not avoid is hot and spicy foods 🤦🏻♀️
