  • Mizuno JPX921 Tour irons tested against the Mizuno MP20 irons with Mark Crossfield golf professional. Mark takes these two Mizuno golf irons and tests the JPX921 Tour for feel, looks as well as what data he gets from this players iron and compares it toe the forged MP20 Mizuno blades. What will come out as the best Mizuno golf iron for 2020 and going into 2021. When it comes to players bladed and semi cavity irons the Mizuno golf iron range ticks so many boxes with looks and feels but just how close are these two sets of irons. Both feature Mizuno golf's Grain Flow Forged design and both iron sets from Mizuno golf will appeal to golfers looking for the best looking irons while at the same time demanding good spin, launch and ball speeds to help them hit more greens.
Have you tested either of these two Mizuno irons and indeed any set of Mizuno irons over the years and if so what did you think about them?

Thanks Mark. There's definitely still a bit of fear with the blades - hopefully that test shows there's really not much to be scared of in 2020. CAD design and quite a bit more generous than the classics - TP9, TP19, MP-14, MP-29 etc.

People start talking to you that the blades are too difficult to hit. Play the clubs you like and don’t bother others with opinions. I own a set MP18 MBs and a set of MP 18 MMCs... both very nice. Recommend them 😎👍

I picked up a used set of the Forged 921's a couple weeks ago. LOVE the feel of them and I think they are very nice to look down on. I'm not far off the handicap people suggest you use these types of clubs but I figured why not start using them now and learn to hit them. The challenge will only force me to better my game. Definitely got a fan in me Mizuno!

I play the jpx 900 tour irons and until recently played a big head in Wilson and Honma. The 900 tour is in my opinion one of the best looking , feeling head ever made. Opinions very by preference and that's what's great about the game.

I moved to the MP20 MBs from the old JPX900 Forged. Was worried I wouldn’t be able to hit them but I’ve always been an half decent ball striker and if anything the MP20s have only improved that. I think they’re more forgiving than you think, especially for a blade. The feel and sound when you flush one is like nothing else though. Best feeling in golf. I was a 12 handicap when I switched 12 months ago and I now play off 6. Don’t think I’ll ever play anything other than Mizuno blades now.

MP33s in my bag too. All the talk about GIs, CBs, and "help" are greatly overstated for marketing and content creation. I'm of the opinion if you play golf fairly regularly and have a handicap under 25, you have plenty of game to play a blade and enjoy it.

Loved this as I play the mp20 MB but have been tempted to switch to the tour for a little more help...or not as the case may be. PLEASE can you do more on the comparison between blade and cavity like you did a while back with the old top flite blade...it was the most valuable video I have ever seen you do, but it’s been kinda glossed over. The results and statistics where amazing...I feel you have missed a trick with not taking that further. @@djohnsongolf l LOVE them. I would highly recommend them to any lower handicapper. They feel amazing. I wasn't planning on purchasing these clubs specifically, but on the trackman I was in the sweet spots across all five categories. So, I went with the Mizuno's with my fingers crossed and have loved every second of it.
Most importantly, I would recommend getting fitted on the trackman machine w a swing instructor. I hit a lot of clubs, but Mizuno's just happened to be the ones I hit best statistically on the machine. A lot of clubs felt great, but I went 💯 off the stats and advice from my swing coach.

Played Mp 32 for years then in the last few played around with clubs that offer “help” now playing MP20 to 4 iron and love them. Tested the JPX921 but didn’t get the same “feeling” off the face. Think it’s a metal game, for me I look at a blade and feel confident the clubs that “help” just don’t suit my eye and really effect strike on the course, definitely don’t get out of the turf the same? Blades forever!!!!

Great video. Play MP18 blades at this moment but after extensive testing in the golfshop and on course (on several days) and fitting (on trackman) ordered JPX921 tours. Reason for me is tighter dispersion and a touch more forgiveness, especially on slight toe misses. On the course the 7 demo iron 921 Tour seems to do nothing else than want to go to the flag. With the MP blade a toe strike is punishing and the Tour stability frame in the 921 Tour seems to work and give a touch more help and can still reach the target while the MP blade on a toe strike can easily be a club short. Also like the brushed look better especially when we can play again in sunny weather. Less glare. But could also easily play the MP blade again. The difference between the two was very minimal to me. And now hoping they will still arrive in 2020.....🤩

Greetings from Canada. First Mizuno irons I got in 2000. T-Zoid Comp EZ blades. Buttery forged feel but a bit larger head for some forgiveness. Played down to an 8 handicap with those. From there went 4 years with the Exotics CNC forged blades which were a nice club but went for a fitting 2 years ago and walked out with Mizuno JPX919 Forged. Buttery Mizuno feel again. Mizuno really does forged well. JPX919 was a re-introduction of Mizuno forged feel with a bit of game improvement thrown in. I have tried cast clubs and they go further (usually lower lofts} but just not the feel. I am a life long forged player, the feel is just too good to resist. Now if they could make a 460 degree persimmon driver........

I think the weight in the Toe of the JPX is delaying very, very fractionally the face from naturally closing, and on a back-to-back test, such as here, you're seeing this with more spin & balls further right. I've seen a number of these tests now where clubs with weighted toes, also cause slightly more dynamic toe-down at delivery with increased shaft deflection - again with flights being further right - so a slight lie angle adjustment would equalize this during a fitting process. The MP looks better - but the JPX is probably the better club

Mark, you did a video around getting a proper fitting before changing clubs, which with my coach Andrew Ainsworth we did. As such I’ve now got the MP20 MB with KBS C-Taper shafts. Straight and better control, hence consistently hitting single figures now!

I game the mp20s and absolutely love them. Upgraded from the taylormade rocketbladez tour. Playing off a 6 handicap I agree very much with buying what instills confidence when standing over the shot. Would never go back. That Mizuno feel is like a drug!

I’m gaming some refurbed Pro 2 irons. I like that Mizuno irons do what you expect and they always feel great.

I have recently moved from Ping G30s to Mizuno MP20 (HMB) and have found that my dispersions have been tighter with the Mizuno.
With the HMBs they just go the same distances consistently. On the other hand the G30s, when you got hold of one, hold onto your hat.
Left and right misses don't seem to be wild with the Mizuno, whereas the G30 left and right misses, I think are compounded by the distance variability.

Would the MP20 MMC be closer to the Tour? Or does the Tour sit between the MP20 blade and MMC?

First set of irons were TP 11s! That’s how I learnt to play golf. Cavity backed cast iron options were horrendous in 1987! Then gamed MP 29s MP33s and the stunning muscle cut MP 30s! Left the game for 10 years playing off 2 handicap and just come back into it. Didn’t think I’d be consistent enough for a set of MPs so went for a small forged cavity Titliest AP2 set. They were ok but the ball flight and spin was off the chart! Way too high and spinning. Friend offered me a set of MP64s to try with a stiffer shaft. The difference was immediate! Piercing ball flight and 10-15 yards longer! Still felt I wanted to go stiffer with the shaft so just picked up a set of JPX tours from a pro off the the tour truck. X100 fitted and absolutely flushing them. I’m back home and life’s good. It’s true...Nothing feels like Mizuno! 👌

Been in love with Mizuno from mt teenage years. Had a lityle spell with Callaway when my clubs were stolen years ago. They were great, but I went back to my favourites when I could afford them.( tell Lockey that isnt a diss in case he gets upset🤣). I would go with the more forgiving because of my handicap. But to be honest, I love the look and feel AND sound of every iron of theirs that I have used. Guess I maybe a little bias, but I just trust in them. Great video👍

Great little video mate. Not sure about the old school computer noise when displaying the tech features. 👊

Never played or owned Mizuno before. I'd pick the JPX just because I've played cavity backs for so long and would appreciate any help the cavity and tech could provide.

Have played my MP52’s for 10 years and have served me well. Looking at MP20 as my next set.

Love a good Mizuno test. I'm still playing my MP-32s, but tested the MP-20s a few months ago on a launch monitor. Truthfully, there was barely anything in it between them from the look at address to the performance. The MP-20s went 2-3 yards longer, but that was only due to the loft differences (MP-32 at 35° for the 7 iron). I hit more good shots with my irons than the MP-20s, which simply came down to familiarity and confidence in my own irons. I do like the look of the JPX 921 Tour more than the MP-20s - a brushed satin finishes always look nice to me.
