Paz is like a childhood friend you fell out with years ago but found alone and homeless only to die of an overdose when you try to take them back to your place so they can have some actual food
With this song I picture all your friends having a good time at Mother Base, Cecile cooking Gallo Pinto with Amanda, Huey and Strangelove hanging out, Chico and Paz fishing... The family you made is now gone, and Paz theme evocates just that, those lost memories.
I imagine all the people from your past because you miss the times you had together and you had amazing memories, then you realize everyone moved on to something else and has their own life, while you are a shell of your former self holding on to the past, wishing things would go back to how they were. until you realize you're experiencing a phantom pain of having lost them to the times, and you go on alone.
Just like Venom Snake.
When they make the movie for this game, I really hope they use this music in it with some beautiful flashback scenes

MGSV was my first MGS game so a didnt know too much about Paz and Snake past, but I felt really depressed when she turned out to be a creation out of Snake mind
Me too, i didn't know too much about Paz or the other characters but feel very sad while i play Phantom Pain
I would say try out some of the other games but its up to you if you’re willing to go backwards in terms of controls and gameplay.
There isn’t too many ways to play them on newer consoles.
MGS1&2 are on gog. 3&PW are on 360&PS3 in the HD Collection. 4 is only on PS3.
Metal Gear 1&2 Can be played on the HD Collection.
Not many newer way currently.

Not many ppl have PS3s anymore and working controllers is kind of a problem these days.
@@ThatOldSchoolMagic true. allthough you can connect a ps4 controller. honestly though, if you dont have a ps3 then...i think you're pretty much shit out of luck as far as playing all the games go. not to sound mean but, so far, we havent gotten an updated collection.
She didn't just infiltrate MSF, she snuck into our hearts... 10/10 Paz always is allowed into the cardboard box for two.

Gotta say, for a game that wasn't really finished, MGSV sure delivered some of the most devastating gut punches in the series.
Imagine if it got finished. It would do more than just this.
I'm starting to feel it was supposed to end like this, that's how it ends, after everything you do to savour one memory of mother base, you realize you're nothing but a husk of your old self. And you only have that one save file, all the things you did are gone, and you can't relive them.

According to kojima it was finished the way he wanted it to, mission 51 wasnt included just because kojima didnt like it
@@krismas7531 There is a charm in unfinished games, see Xenogears for example, the second disc gameplay is in most part missing, but it still manages to be one of the most powerful game at squaresoft peak
It was one of those games that left you feeling really empty at the end. Which is why I never replayed it even though I loved it. Just didn't have it in me to go through all that again. You just loose everything at the end man. You find out you were never big boss, Quiet leaves, Ocelot and Miller are pit against each other. The game felt like you were spending your grand mother's last day with her at an amusement park. You had an amazing time and felt joy you've never felt before, but then you're just left alone...
To be fair, you are part of what Big Boss wanted to happen all along. Better yet, you are equally as skilled and equally as respected and feared amongst your men.
It did feel like i lost everything at the end. It felt like i was cheated out being who i thought i was. Even though i was seriously doubting i was The BB by the middle of the game and almost called the ending just by going off of cliche endings for stories as epic. It still felt like a slap to the face though.
For those of you who don't know, that man you wake up next to in the hospital is The BB. He's there to protect you from Quiet. It's not just some random Good Samaritan.

Finished the game last week and I feel the same way. Everything feels empty at the end, when you completed every main mission.
Especially after the Quiet mission and the Paz cutscenes, which were the last things I did in the game. Man, that was heartbreaking and depressing.
I tried to do some side missions with D-dog, but it's not the same without Quiet's support (yes, I know you can get her back).
The only positive thing was that I finished the game a day before my birthday, so at least I enjoyed that cutscene on the last day I opened the game.
Just finished Paz's sidequest. Felt bad, so just decided to crawl up to where her room used to be. Lied down and play this song on repeat.

Metal Gear changed me. I was born in 2006 and only recently played the games. I feel like the veil of reality has been lifted. The world may not be exactly like it is in metal gear, but it sure as hell resembles it. As our world slowly spirals into a dystopia, there’s nothing we can do. We don’t have heroes to save us. The best we can do is just pick up the pieces. Make so with what we have

Yet somehow those memories make you feel hopeful that soon there may be more in the future.
I have fond memories of playing this game last year and just roaming the in-game areas listening to this. Such an epic feeling.
It hasn't even been a year since release, but I already get a huge dose of nostalgia for the game when I hear this.
Too bad the last chapter soured my mood for it and I never played it again.
Would you say it made you feel a sort of phantom pain? Part of me feels the game is perfectly finished because of that. You’re the big brother, the villain, treating your soldiers like resources, no longer the hero big boss was, but rather a husk left behind by him.

@@saedt The phantom pain I felt back then was feeling like this game didn't live up to the narrative expectations of the rest of the series and if this was the note the Metal Gear series ended on it would have been a very disappointing one considering the unfinished and unavailable chapter 3 and chapter 2 being much shorter than chapter 1. I was also under the wrong impression that you had to do all the repeat missions to get to the final ending with the Venom Snake/Medic reveal so I just watched it on RUclips and moved on. Only recently did I find out you could get it just by doing some side ops.
I honestly forgot I even made this comment 4 years ago, and goddamn, 4 years ago surprises me. It's been a while. I have been getting the itch to play the game again honestly, because Phantom Pain and Ground Zeroes did offer the best gameplay out of the entire series. Maybe I'll play it again someday. Having a definitive edition of this game with the last chapter with Eli would be cool, but who knows, maybe the game being "unfinished" and leaving players with the feeling of a phantom pain was Kojima being meta about it. Maybe we all got worked.

Man, hearing this again after nearly 5 years of completely finishing this game reminds me of the good times. I didn't know they were until this moment. This track is a literal time capsule
I really love how melancholy this version. It's beautiful and sad at the same time.

Thought it’d be nice to the end the year to this. The first song that I listened to before knowing of this franchise. And man I fell in love with this song. What a crazy year, but this series got me through it. Thank you mgs fans and KOJIMA! Happy new year

@@hoosen355 go to your cassette tape, when you select a song, there is an option to set it as your helicopter arrival song. Controls to do that are at the bottom when selecting a song

I listened to this song reading that fan comic “last day in outer heaven” and the tears did not stop. Everything in that moment cultivating into Venoms last moments and finally being able to be released from the burden of Big Boss only for Quiet to return to him. The last panel of Quiet’s hand reaching for him and all he did was go back to being that man she met all those years ago.
Never had such emotions. All the other games i've played, nothing gave me such big emotions like this game. I wanted to play it over and over but i also don't want to play it anymore. It gave me a really hard time

After that whole side mission with Paz and listening to her recording to Venom, I'm curious if the Medic knew Paz before becoming Venom and had a bond with her as they did with Big Boss and Chico.
Her tape appears to imply that she was aware of the Medic's trauma at not being able to save her.
It's also possible that this was all in Medic's head all along. Either way, the side mission was a real tear-jerker
Well Venom was according to big boss, the best man they had in MSF.
I always think of those missions just for two players Peace Walker had, as Venom being there like the second player along with Big Boss.
I started playing Peace Walker a bit after finishing MGSV. I truly get the emotion behind this song now.

I just got MGSV yesterday, I had no idea wtf I was doing, then I got this tape, nothing good happened, still was the same, I still sucked at the game but I damn well know that hiding in dumpsters playing this was the greatest feeling yet

This brings me back. When i first got my psp it had like 8 games on it but this one game has some interesting about it, MGSPW. It was my first MGS game and 10 year old me did not know the beautiful world i was entering.

I remember on my first and only playthrough I had completed all the main story missions, except one. 46: Truth- The man who sold the world.
For some reason, I wanted to complete all the wandering MB soldiers, so I did that because I enjoyed listening to the Paz tapes that came afterwards.
But this time, when I extracted the last one and went to visit her, the cutscene played out differently. (Won’t spoil it, you should check it out)
So there I was, in the ACC, about late afternoon. Sitting. Listening to Paz’s tape.
And then this song came on as always, not as a happy reminder of the good times, but as a somber and bittersweet goodbye.
After she had finished, Snake just sat there. But his normal brooding look had taken on a different meaning.
After hearing what she had said about phantom pains, and being part of our hearts, I knew what had to be done next.
I felt like Spike Spiegel in the last episode of Cowboy Bebop, going off alone to find out the truth of if he was really alive or dead.
Me and Venom Snake, who had gone through heck in a handbasket booted up our first, and now last mission together.
It was time to face the Man Who Sold the World, and find out just who we really were.
Gotta say, it was a pretty good game.

Even though this is from peace walker, I still consider this venom snakes theme, really depressing and yet reminds you of peace walker, which is great because venom was a soldier from peace walker when things were great, same with us as the player as we are venom, in a sense we both feel nostalgia, as the player and venom.

I experienced gaming burnout after this game, this is my last game that I ever truly enjoyed, feels sad that I can't anymore enjoy video games again as I used to, I remember this song being my favorite, now hearing it bring sadness to me, but in my honesty I feel there is no stealth game or any mentally stimulating game as mgs v anymore, new games feels like just a pile of boring games
Your words inspire me to strive for making games that are as special as Mgs. I agree with you that modern games are boring, it’s just the same ideas over and over. With Mgs games each game in the franchise brings new ideas to the table, the way the games are crafted doesn’t follow the annoying trend that modern games follow.

I played Peace Walker almost fully through twice, once on my actual PSP, once on an emulator on PC and I was expecting the original-
I noticed it was too quiet, so i stopped running around and listened.

I just don't get it, since snake isn mgsv wasn't Jack, how does he get illusions of paz ? It wouldn't only make sense if the real snake does, since he had memories of her. Not venom, he never met paz.
Edit: apparently venom did meet paz, since he was the medic who removes the bomb from paz's belly in that chopper at the ending of mgsv ground zeroes, such crazy details that i easily missed somehow. But that's the beauty of mgs anyways, the story is something that you should care to discover it piece by piece.

According to big boss, medic (venom) was the best soldier they ever had.
And meeting Paz?, i think he would have, pretty much everyone in MSF knew/met Paz in person at some point.
Apart from the various moments Paz and the soldiers shared together.
Playing Soccer (Futbol), fishing, feeding the same fish they just caught to 'Nuke' (A black cat)
There's few cassette tapes in Peace Walker from Paz talking about those moments, and other stuff.
Venom was a medic in his past and was tasked to remove the bomb in Paz, but when he failed to save her since they didn't remove the second bomb, he carried the guilt of not saving her even after his conversion into a body double, it still lingered in him.

Easily missed, did you play the game. Even still they say in the game they gave him treatment to make him believe he was snake so him meeting paz or not is irrelevant
