I love how the laugh track still plays even when Fred is brutally killing Barney with a rock
I mean... he is saving ancient humanity XD
Authentic caveman way of fighting. Find a rock and hit your enemy in the head until you cave in his skull. There's even a verb for it: "Braining".
I expected him to take the WHAT and use it on Barney to, y'know, smash him to pieces

Classic Flintstones humor right there!

Fred wasn't mad at the end there, it wasn't hate or 'blind' fear either. He just knew that Barney was too great a risk to Pebbles and everything he loved.

@@Tacoguy1000 You guys just don't get it. Barney has a family too, he was just messing with Fred. He did that on the show all the time.

*Bashes Barney's head in with a rock*
"It wouldn't even be that hard. I could probably figure it out myself"
When dealing with atomics, having that sentence said by him is a terrifying concept
I mean it really isn't that difficult. The hard part is getting the materials to do it, not the doing it.
@@shred1894refinement is pretty tricky
@@jameson1239 I'm sure there are ways for getting the materials already refined, either orphan sources or black market deals in the middle east or whatever. But as I said, getting the materials is the hard part.
@@shred1894 By exactly what metric is nuclear weapon design "not that difficult"?
Even if somebody handed you the materials, do you know how to configure the geometry of a polonium-beryllium neutron generator? Or how to set up exploding bridgewire detonators? Or even the metallurgy to properly alloy the plutonium with gallium and stabilize it in the correct allotrope? How thick your tamper needs to be?
This is the sort of thing that even today, with modern resources and computing power, is still a massive undertaking for a large team of scientists and engineers. Not sure what compels two dozen people (as of time of writing) to say "pfft, yeah, no problem".
@@Kerithanos You do realize that the first viable nuclear weapons were made in the 1940s, well before computers even really were a thing right?
A simple gun type device using refined uranium isn't really complicated, and will do the job of being a functional nuclear weapon. What makes them complicated (and even then not really) is the fuse mechanism for an airburst detonation. Seriously, a teenager with $200 could buy everything they would need to make a crude one (besides the fissile materials anyways). It wouldn't be pretty but if you're just mashing a small piece of uranium into a bigger piece of uranium with some explosives, it's not hard.
next part, as Fred is burying the body
"oh hey there Fred"
"hey bar-- BARNEY? How did you"
"Neat right? Turns out it's pretty simple coming back from the eternal plane."
"What. How?"

"Oh, hey, Fred, sorry testin' out this here thingamacallit the lab rats been working on called the "wonderful heated atomizing trinket."
"The what?"
"Yeah for short." That feels very much like an actual Flintstones joke and I love it.
It's got that Abbott and Costello flavor. Barney is a bit like the Costello to Fred's Abbott.
Ok
Oh, I was confused, I thought he was saying it was "yeah" for short. Then looked and saw it was clearly not yeah, then had to read it a few more times before I understood.
I think Fred knows what it's like to get a fresh slate. He works in a quarry. Getting fresh slate is kinda his job.
And by murdering his Best friend, Fred managed to save everyone. Even tough he was shun and exiled for commiting such hedious act, he took to his solitary and guilt ridden grave the sole comfort that he had done what needed to be done.
He was a hero, not that the world would remember as such, but the world would go on and that was enough for him
Go on into becoming a world full of tik tokers but then again maybe Fred is more optimistic than we give him credit for and found eventual potential in humanity. Who knows.
Totally agree with comment.
"You are a Hero. And now you must leave."
This, is a damn cool comment. Kudos.
Read this in Morgan Freeman's voice.
Fred's horror is only half at Barney's words, if that. No, the real horror is because he knew right then and there that he would have to kill Barney; the stakes were simply too high not to
In an alternate scenario:
Fred: "Barney, what you just said is just allowing entropy to win. Sure, we could destroy everything, but everything is already good at destroying itself. A giant rock could fall out of the sky at any moment, and kill us all. It's why you have those feelings, Barn, it's the call of the void that we needn't listen to, because it ain't our friend. We are the rebels against our fate, Barn. It may not seem like much, but simply living our lives is the greatest form of spite we can have against the universe."
Barney: "You know what Fred? This is why we're friends. I get ahead of myself, and you're smart enough of a guy to bring back down to reality. Anyways, I guess this thing is too dangerous. Someone stupider than you or I could destroy everything with it, so in the spirit of fighting entropy, I shall destroy the object of our destruction!" *Breaks the device.
Fred: "I'm glad we're on the same page. I bet it took a lot for you to do that."
Barney: "Naw, not really, I just wanted to break something, and the device was conveniently on hand to sooth that itch. Uh, by the way Fred...did we have giant burning boulders hurtling toward the earth in the weather forecast?"
Fred: "No, why?"
Barney: "Well, because it seems the weather people are about to get fired, then."
Fred: *Turns to look "Ah...I forgot to knock on wood."
Barney: "Well, this is ironic. In an effort to save ourselves from ourselves, we destroyed the very thing that could've saved us. Entropy is a real b*tch, ain't she Fred?"
*Asteroid hits planet

It makes me happier than it should that somebody understands that splitting a single atom does very little.
except that there looked to be a pretty big pile of rocks at the start, and Fred seemed to say that it all vanished, there were definitely a fair few atoms in that.
@@Jacob-ge1pybut he didnt split the atoms from the rocks, he just shrunk them down to an atomic scale, basically just seperating the atoms in the rocks
@@quesadi But why would the ray perform every step on the rocks except the last? He split, all big rocks, then all the little rocks, so why wouldn't it split all the atoms? he pointed it the same each time.
@@Jacob-ge1py Depends on the chemical makeup. You gotta remember most commonplace chemical compounds dont have very many atoms to split.
The reason they used Uranium for nukes was because it was so atomically dense, ergo more reactions and energy yield.
@@jackmcmorrow9397 That is not why uranium is used and I'm quite sure there are a lot of atoms in those quite large rocks.

that was the only right response
As you do, given the time period

To be fair, Barney went from speculating about the potential of nuclear war to outright suggesting it.
I expected him to take the WHAT and use it on Barney to, y'know, smash him to pieces
Well I think Barney was acting far worse than Hilter. Wanting to commit Genocide against all humanity.
"Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds..."
- Barney Rubble, unironically
I’m going to take a moment to talk about how much I hate that quote. The first words said after the atomic bomb exploded were “We are all sons of bitches now” Oppenheimer was said to have quietly applauded not reading hindu religious quotes. He only claimed to have said the quote afterwords in a bid to save his reputation for having created a weapon of mass destruction. He even begged the government to not use it, not out of a genuine care for humanity, he didn’t object to any of the cities being bombed when given a list, but instead because it would’ve hurt his precious reputation as a scientist.
TLDR: fuck oppenheimer and his dumbass quote

You are going to flip when you realize how much English was in there.
As crazy as it was at least Barney let his buddy in on the fun. He didn't have to include Fred and just did everything by himself.
He was looking for comradery in his resentfully evil ways. Y'know, someone very grandiose and smart for their time wouldn't be satisfied with rocks, but I say Barney should have been given a chance.
it's nice to know that no matter what existential threat Barney poses to life itself, him and Fred'll be chummy again next week.
Not sure if that's applicable after the corpse that Fred just created.

Is anyone surprised?
"Wonderful Heated Atomizing Trinket" = "The WHAT" feels like a joke that could have been lifted straight from the show. Well done!
Barney: "y'know, like if you could start over. y'know, everything reset back to zero"
Pixy: *"THAT'S WHAT V2 IS FOR. IT'S TIME."*
The addition of custom art does a really good job of extending the jokes without compromising the format.
Yeah! I thought that worked really well, too. Since by that time the joke had escalated far enough that the original art might not feel sufficiently impactful, and the single use of custom art emphasizes how far things are going off the deep end in that moment.
This is truly the moment Barney became Bartenheimer

This hits different after watching Oppenheimer
Weeks after watching this I was struck by a powerful shower thought. Barney wanted Fred to kill him. He really saw him as a friend, as the only person he could trust to do what needed to be done. He was hoping Fred would be horrified by Barney's plan and act decisively to stop him, because part of him knows it's wrong, that he's a wicked man for wanting to destroy it all. But at the same time, he can't stop himself. He needed someone else to step in and stop him. He wanted Fred to kill him.
This seems like a series where he's been possessed by a demon, but still retains his personality. Wonder when everyone else'll find out.
I think Fred just found out at the end
Nah barney is just very psycopathic or however u say it.
Barney was the demon all along we just fell for his act

The fact that Barney can quote a Latin proverb when the Roman Empire hasn't been founded yet brings up so many questions for me.
If there's no electricity how exactly does Fred's TV work ?
Barney saw the future of the industrial revolution and tried to save us all, what a chad.
0:12 that what joke flew over my head 😂😂😂
Barn saying something super fucked up then playing it off as a joke is THE most relatable thing I've seen from this channel.
For me it is smashing peoples skull with a rock
This deserves a thumbs up. I love how Fred, when confronted with a side of his friend that shows him to be a violent criminal looking to destroy the world, immediately takes matters into his own hands to eliminate the threat. Bedrock and the entire world Fred inhabits owe him a debt of gratitude.
“A few people laughed, a few people cried, many were silent”
Barney's really about to join the Cult of The Atom in Fallout 4
You know there's actually a theory that the Flintstones and The Jetsons are simultaneous. They take place at the exact same time. After nuclear war decimated the landscape. The Jetsons in all their stuff or above everything it does they are fine. But did you ever notice that everything that The Flintstones have is an approximation of what life was like in the 50s and 60s. It's because they're trying to replicate what life used to be.
If you go off what a The Jetsons episode did, the Flintstones are in the Jetsons future. We get a fantastic future for awhile and then some kind of catastrophe happens (presumably nuclear, but it’s not specified in the episode) and then we go from living like the Jetsons to living like the Flintstones
