Pal Tiya As selfish as this sounds, I think your Pal Tiya would make an awesome Tracy Island from Thunderbirds Are Go. Put it this way if you don't do it I will ;)
leokimvideo Well well! Hmmm... Let me seeee♫♪ You know Leo, that's a CRANKING idea! I'm not sure if we will have the time to do it for a while though. But.. Since our good friend Steven - who supervised the build of both scales of Tracy Island for the series - already loves working with our Pal Tiya I'll give him a "little nudge" about this idea. (Steven's making a life-sized "Museum Display" Velociraptor out of Pal Tiya). You've got me all excited now Leo!! WOO-HOO!
I would love to see a video on what you do with the projects after they have cured, how or what you use to paint or seal it, what does it need to with stand the elements if anything at all, or just make a video longer to show what you do after curing
Donna Leddy Thanks Donna. More projects coming up. We want to get Pal Tiya available to everyone everywhere. So we'd love it if you could tell your friends too, and spread the word.
Hi Vilma, Kim is actually over there in the USA right now (finally!) getting manufacturing there all sorted out. We'll announce when it's all set up , running, and ready to ship right here on RUclips. Keep your ears open.
Excellent Jami! Like all things, we always 'suck-just-a-bit' on our first try. Which is actually awesome! Because every little bit you do from then gets better and better! Next stop? Pal Tiya Jedi-Master!
I have watched all the videos and can only say the one thing missing is the post processing - the painting and finishing for outdoor display. What paints do you use and is there a final coating of some sort of varnish? Would love to see a video dedicated to that.... Oh, and glad to hear that this is coming to the US, although I live in Canada it will make it easier/cheaper to buy than importing from New Zealand!
We needed to pause producing our videos to get Pal Tiya production ready for our US launch coming up. Here's part of our looong list we've filmed so far: Miniature Elven Bridge. Miniature Elven Gazebo. Small 'Stone Bridge'. Tiny Castle. BIG (still miniature) Castle. "Impact Testing" - Yep, we also designed Pal Tiya to save statues from accidental falls. "Top Secret" Weta Workshop projects. WHEW! So... Lots of work ahead to finish all these! and make MORE stuff!
Hi Regina, and thank you. The material is a new "Outdoor/All-Weather Sculpting Material" we developed we call "Pal Tiya". www.paltiya.com/ There's also a link to our site in the "Description" section below the video too. We currently make and distribute it within New Zealand, and shortly also the United States. (actually where Kim is now, setting all that up).
We really do get excited - and forget those "crucial details" in the process. It's a specialty "all-weather sculpting material" we developed that we call Pal Tiya. There's a link below the video in the "Details" section to take you to our website. Lots and lots of reading to find on it there. We developed it here in New Zealand, so right now we make and ship it within NZ. But, very shortly we begin manufacture and distribution in the USA. Hope this helps.
This is absolutely adorable! And, while you do make it look easy, I'm sure it isn't for those of us not umm, gifted, at the visual arts. Could you please tell me what you're using for the outside? Cement / clay?
Shelly, you have a really good point there. Kim had also never even tried sculpture (or any visual arts) before she was in her mid-30's. She even says that "I felt that I 'kind of sucked' at it to begin with". But like all things, just 'keeping-steadily-at-it' paid off for her. She eventually even worked on "The Hobbit" movies in New Zealand! As for the material? It's another result of "good ol' perseverance". It's called "Pal Tiya". Kim and her husband developed it over a number of years, because there simply wasn't anything that she could just mix, sculpt BIG things with, and then leave outdoors for centuries. Here's some links to our website. I hope they explain a little for you. We're pretty proud of it: www.paltiya.com/ www.paltiya.com/how-to-use-pal-tiya.html
Thanks Lynn! We're slowwwlly working our way towards that. We've been manufacturing/distributing it inside New Zealand for some time to 'grow' our product (and frankly, to see if the world wants/needs it too). Right now, we are getting ready to also manufacture in the USA shortly. Our biggest (and rather scary) step so far! I expect "Phase Three" will most likely then be in the UK. Particularly as we have has SO MANY wonderful inquiries from Brits.
Thank you. I just ran downstairs to weigh that one. It weighs in at just 7 pounds, or 3.2 Kilograms. Actually, I think Kim built that one to resist being run-over by a Tank! So, it's quite liberally thick :)
What kind of stuff did you use, it looks like clay..but did not know you could mix it up like that. please let me know, so I can try this at home Thanks!
We're very proud of it. Kim named it "Pal Tiya" (in honor of an ancient Native American ancestor of hers). And, yes, the "kneading" part is my favorite. Look below the video in the "Comments" section, and you'll find a link to our website. Lots of answers to be found in our "about" section. Currently it is manufactured and sold only withing New Zealand. But shortly we will be producing it in the USA too.
There are two ways to cure a piece. Go here for more info: www.paltiya.com/curing A cure can be 6 days under plastic first day and then wrapped in wet cloths under plastic for a further 5 days, or if on day 2 you are happy with your sculpture you can plonk it in water and just keep it there. 5-6 days for the a cure and 28 days if it will be stood on etc. that's the strongest possible cure :)
It's called Pal Tiya. Have a look for the link to our website in the details section below the video. You'll find lots more information about it there. We make and sell it here in beautiful new Zealand, and shortly will be doing the same in the USA.
We have tests scheduled to answer this very Question +Carrionsrule985 It is one we get quite frequently now. If they are positive (I.e there is no issues with aquarium usage) then expect a video on that very topic. Not sure about the timeline on the tests as we are currently launching in the US and it is all hands on deck!
We call it "Pal Tiya". There is a link to our website in the details section below this video. It would take hours for me to describe it for you, so perhaps best to read the "about" section there. We make and ship it within new Zealand. Shortly will be manufacturing and shipping in the USA too.
Hi Bri, Kim here. I think of you often while over here in the USA. Actually I am building a two meter tall Dragon over here I would like to name after you (if that's ok with you). (your name also reminds me so much of Brienne of Tarth, from a certain show) Starting things in America has taken much longer than we expected (a good life-lesson there). Still some time to go before I can come home again. When I return to New Zealand it will be just wonderful to finish your sculpture!
We are in the middle of gearing-up our US production of Pal Tiya premium right now as I type. Still sorting out all the nitty-gritty of distribution, classes, etc. etc. We will likely make a great big announcement right here on good ol' RUclips♫ Keep watching...
We call it Pal Tiya. It's an "all-weather sculpting material we developed over here in tiny New Zealand. If you look in the "description" section - below the video - follow the link to our website www.paltiya.com/ You'll find loads about it there, especially in the "about" section.

Thanks for asking (isn't it it's always the 'glaringly obvious' things you forget to add while film-making?). It's a self-reinforcing "all-weather sculpting material" we developed way down here in M̶i̶d̶d̶l̶e̶ ̶E̶a̶r̶t̶h I mean New Zealand, that we call "Pal Tiya" (hence our channel's name). have a look down in the description section below the video. You'll find a link to our website www.paltiya.com/ Loads to read about it there, especially in the "about" sections.
Actually, really really SOON. Kim is in the US as I speak (well, type), setting up manufacturing Pal Tiya in the US in coming weeks. We're still ironing out US sales & distribution, but we're totally rolling! Keep an eye out here. We'll announce details here on this channel.
We are still working out the very best ways for everyone to buy Pal Tiya premium in the US. Our US manufacturing starts in the coming weeks (hooraay♫!).
Well, it certainly 'sculpts' a little like clay. We call it Pal Tiya, and It's an "all-weather sculpting material we developed ourselves here in New Zealand. No not cement. It is our non-firing clay-like product called Pal Tiya Premium. dries to harder than concrete when set. Check out our Website: www.paltiya.com :)
I've watched your videos several times and am beyond thrilled you are expanding Pal Tiya to the US market.
