My doctor suggested dairy free and gluten-free for my severe eczema- I guess Dr McDougall just gave me a second opinion on that thought. Thank you and Mary for all you do .-Amy

It is a great Q&A thank you so much! It is scary for the world that so many people are so close to getting type 2 diabetes, a major and completely preventable disease.
Although I was previously closing on 'prediabetic', at this time and for 7 years my blood sugar is normal being on the whole food-plant based Starch Solution. I started to the program to lower my cholesterol and it also fixed my blood pressure, weight and high resting heart rate.

Yes indeed. It's a recent study come out of PCRM , it even anazed Dr Barnard. Half a cup of Soya beans reduced hot sweats in 80% of the study group. Remarkable. 2022 study.

I love Dr McDougall. My Daughter has 1.5 Diabetes -diagnosed a year ago- we are plant based since - she has lost some weight but for some reason has not been able to loose all - her A1C is stable and good but her weight won’t give - I’m confused- concerned about that. Also, her Dr still has her on metformin - not sure if she should still take it . Help…

I was addicted to cooking and eating and had fallen into overeating, never feeling satisfied. I have had to learn a new satiety. I have now been on a fast for a week followed by another 10 days of 1 meal a day eating about 1/3 my usual intake of sateity. I have lost approximately 12 lbs and have anorher 12 to go. When I reach my desired weight I will remain on one meal a day but at about 1/2 level of what was my original feeling of fullness. Food tastes exquisite now that I am disciplining my lust of hungwr.

Thanks for this!! I wanted to say Type 2 is reversible, but that's unfortunately not the case for Type 1, of course Dr MacDougall & Mary know this, but, I've heard uninformed people and even Dr's say Type 1 or Type 1.5 are reversible.

???I have been diagnosed with enlarged lymphnodes in my aortic cavity. They have grown in a year to 1.5 cm. The doctors aren't sure what to do, because they are not readily accessible. Any suggestions how to reduce these? Or what cause might be. They were noticed on a CT scan almost 2 years ago because of a boarder line ovarian tumor (now removed)

It is the people that try to isolate themselves and clean like crazy that have all the problems. We need bacteria and our immune system is strengthened by exposure to various viruses, fungi, bacteria. You don’t want ebola but basic things like colds and soar throats are not something to fear. Those that had colds before did better with covid.

when the question came up about eating an almond butter and jelly sandwich, dr. Mcdougall said it can cause weight gain from the fat and the sugar---but he didn't say it would cause diabetes. I hear that you can't mix fat and sugar together b/c of diabetes, but is that only if it is from the saturated fats---so like having ice cream for example?

I ate McDougall diet and gained fat. I am post menopausal, 58 years old. I ate no fat, at all. No dairy, lots of vegetables with no butter or oils. No oils on my salad...no oils PERIOD. I have studied the McDougall diet and have known about it for years. I have 4 of his books, all of which I have read, and I understand the diet very well. So, what happened? I walk every day for 45 minutes and lift heavy weights 3 times a week.... My doctor says I am now prediabetic.

He makes it look like eating starch doesn’t make you fat. It’s wrong. I eat potatoes and sometimes overeat and gain weight. There’s a limit.

would get your doctor to order autoantibody tests ASAP (GAD, IAA, IA2, and ZnT8). If he is positive for any one autoantibody, he has T1D. A c-peptide test is also useful. Please don’t delay, if BGs are too high!

@@beccasteele6874 I don't have a doctor because I live in NM. Right now, my numbers have come down, and I'm thinking it's my recent oatmeal addition. I looked up "Can oatmeal lower blood sugar?" and YEP, it can! I was 93 fasting this a.m. and 92 a couple of days ago. That is a lot lower than normal for me! But, with my bad genetics, I am keeping an eye on it and can order my own tests if needed. I was thinking of getting my C-Peptide level checked.
