I sort everything by colour because that's how my brain works. I bought about 14 clear plastic shoeboxes and I have one for each colour. I put all the purple ribbons, buttons, bling, chipboard, glitter, etc. all in the same box. Works better for me than micro organization.
Organization definitely needs to work for the person using it. I organize my ribbon and textiles by color...just certain things trigger different responses in my brain :0)
Me too. My brain doesn't say I need a button or a sequin. My brain says I need something blue. I have the Ikea helmar? drawers for mine. I've even did a MASH marathon while I sorted variety mixes by color.
Awesome ideas. I use the photo storage box for my die cuts. When I make a die cut, I always make more so if I need to make a quick card, boom...it's right there. Thank you for sharing!
Excellent idea...and I may try that for basic shapes - if my diecuts go with a stamp set, I just store them with the stamp. I'm a BIG SUPPORTER of cutting a bunch and having them on hand so I just grab and go for quick cards or layouts :0) Thanks for watching and sharing how you use the photo organizers, Christa!
Thank you so much. Trying to organize craft room. I already have the photo cubes for loose photos, but my mind just blew open when using them for other things. Will now use them for my pearl embellishments, floral, etc. I'm running to Michaels or Amazon tomorrow. Thank you so much. Any ideas about storing 6x6 paper for easy transport. I'm glad I found this video.
I'm so glad it was helpful! I don't have many 6x6 so I store mine in an older CTMH Acrylix Organizer...it's so handy and I use these 6x6 clear envelopes to put them in and label with the collection (unless they're in the 6x6 paper pads, then I leave them as-is. amzn.to/3zCiH7G
The photo storage boxes are amazing! I have had the boxes from Michaels and JoAnn's for 20+ years and they are holding up well. For under $15, they are a steal and I always stock up when they have them this low. I don't use anything else for my photos. They allow me to separate by month or even event. Never had an issue with the boxes not closing or with difficulty. Filling them makes a difference as it adds stability to them as with any plastic container. Plastic naturally has give so adding stability by filling them makes a huge difference with any plastic container. I love using the bead organizers for my floss. I also use them for wood veneer and chunky non-sticker alphas (chipboard, acrylic and the like). If I had more flair, I would likely use these for that. Also considering using them for enamel dots sorted by color. Most of my embellishments are on my ScrapRack, though. Best organizational product for scrapbooking, card making, paper crafting, etc by far.
The Photo Organizers that I used to buy from Michaels were NOT this brand I showed in the video...kinda upsetting. At least if they don't close, they're in the bigger bin so dust, etc. won't get in. I've seen the ScrapRack but I don't have that much table space. I do enjoy TT envelopes for dies, etc...so many good things! TFW, Hazel!
Thank you so much for these tips. I am constantly organizing 😢 Sometimes I can spend 30 minutes looking for a specific die or stamp. I drive myself crazy. Wish me luck😂
That's the biggest thing - you see all the pretty things people use in their rooms but if your brain doesn't work like that, it's not going to work. I hope you find your perfect type of organization :0)
I got some really good storage ideas from this video and have many of the items used for storage. I can’t wait to reorganize, declutter and get my sanity back. Thank you.
I have run out of room in the containers I use for my embellishments. They are starting to look messy on my shelf so I like your idea of putting them in the photo box. I have one box for photos and another for bits and pieces so that will work.
Perfect timing, I guess! The Photo Organizers are also SUPER EASY to grab and go - take to your next crop or retreat or even over to a different table...if you're like me, you might like to spread out...lol TFW!
At least we know our personalities...lol. That's why my Cricut goes unused...it's across my desk. I'll use it for big projects but just to cut a title, probably not!
Ha! I just purchased a bunch of clear cases from Temu. Finally (finally!) an ephemera (and clear stamp) storage that works for me. Now to label each case with my new label maker (also from Temu). Thanks! Katy
They are really good quality which was surprising. I'm going to keep those and add more to fill up that fridge bin. They are shown on the website stacked and one can easily pull out, even if it's in the middle, I haven't tried it yet but I don't see how that's possible...lol. TFW 😊
Good to know. I was just telling another watcher that I feel like big box stores set the retail price really high so when they run sales or accept coupons, they still make money. I know I shopped at HL a lot more when they had their weekly 40% coupons...lol
Aren't they amazing! You can also keep scissors, tape adhesive, 3D Foam, etc. in them - maybe for a short little 2-3 hour crop...I'd rather just take my whole thing of adhesive for extended days. TFW 😊
I use those cases as well for my embellishments and I love them. Over the years I’ve picked them up when the sales come because it’s a great bargain. I’ve only had a problem with one of them with the handle breaking which makes it a little more difficult to pull out. Great tips Katy, thanks!
That handle can be tricky, especially on the lower quality ones or if you don't check them in the store properly. So glad that other crafters see the possibilities with them 😊 TFW!
You're so welcome! The one I got from Michael's is NOT the brand they used to carry...I want to say the brand was Recollections, maybe? This one is much lower quality but for $14.99, who can gripe...lol. I was really surprised the first time I ever opened one of ours...was totally not expecting our signature embossed lid...LOVE!
Loved your video! You have some great storage and I love that you pointed out how you look for things and why your storage works for you. It’s so helpful to know that about ourselves so we have the best storage option for how we create!
I think it's safe to say that in each video, there's something new or a reminder of something that might help. We all need organization ideas...lol. TFW!
I always get the photo cases when they are on sale at Michaels and agree the closures are not the best. Recently I moved all my childhood photos into them from old albums but haven't used them for embellishments. Thanks for sharing your ideas, I definitely have some new ideas!
I think the brand they used to carry was Recollections, maybe???? Those were much higher quality. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE how they keep photos organized. The label tape I use also peels off nicely after I scrapbook one of the little containers so I can label it with newer photos. Try using them for your embellishments...I know you'll love it!
I’ve only seen those photo organiser cases used for ephemera packs before and I don’t have a lot of them so never bothered with them. Now I’m realising I need more embellishments and my storage system needs expanding. I’m seriously going to consider if one of them would be a good idea for me. Thank you.
So glad this video has you thinking, Allie...the other good thing about the photo organizers is they are super easy to take to crops and retreats. Check back and let me know what you ended up doing :0)
@@scrappinkaty Do crops still exist? It’s been a good decade since I’ve seen a crop or retreat advertised here in NZ. Unfortunately there are barely any mainstream stores that sell scrapbooking supplies here now. You need to order online.
@@AllieAtkinson here in the US, we still have Crops...we also have weekend retretas with "day crop" options for those who can't spend the while weekend. Retreats have definitely taken over though...I think people want to get away for days at a time.
Hobby Lobby regularly sells a photo organizer case much like that one for a bit less than the best sale price at Michaels. I have often marveled at the price differential.
I used to purchase quite a few things at Hobby Lobby...especially when they offered their 40% off coupons. I don't got there much anymore...ours has drastically downsized their papercrafting section :0( Thanks for watching and giving me the idea of trying out HL again 😊
@@sandratheprocraftinator945 What is "TM" - how long ago was that? I feel like a lot of these big box stores put a HIGH retail price so they can constantly run sales or accept coupons and still be making money....just a thought.
@@sandratheprocraftinator945 oh yes...I should've known that. You are correct...I am a CTMH Maker because I enjoy sharing my love for high-quality products. I actually use several other non-CTMH organization bins/containers if you want to take a look.
For the most part those things are behind me when I showed where I store the little organizers for my acrylic and wood shapes. You can also adjust the inserts for the Small Craft Organizers (I'll send you a pic later today).
So glad, Melissa...I love seeing how other people organize their crafty spaces so I can see if I can adapt any of my current methods. For the most part, it all stays the same 😊
Great ideas! So with the acrylic titles, you’ve combined the colors for each title, right? And it it’s a paperboard title, you kept it in its paperboard holder?
Thank you, Michele! Yes...all the "LIFE"s are together and the paperboard titles are left on the paperboard. I did have some loose black ones that I was going to use but changed my mind so I did end up putting those with my acrylic instead of putting them back in the bag loose.
Note: you failed to mention what the photo storage box from CLOSE TO YOUR HEART cost. I think many would deal with the closure issues to get the better price.
So true! That's why I compared the two and said only a few wouldn't close. I did reference that the CTMH one is less than the one at Michaels if it wasn't on sale and you can get various discounts on the CTMH one if quality is of utmost importance to someone. I'm just surprised that Michaels stopped carrying/producing the one by Reflections...it was so good! TFW!
