I rarely see something that makes sense for organizing... too expensive, too time-consuming, too difficult to aquire, doesn't work (wasted money)... but this is GOOD! I love that it works for my art space and my woodworking. Thank you! Can't wait to implement this.
I just said the same thing about my art studio! I have several things that get bent and unusable if not stored flat. I keep a mish mash of leftover crafting items I rarely use in my drawers. This storage solution will free them up so I can get to my smaller art supplies.
Thanx for sharing! Unfortunately my husband passed away and couple of months ago. He was just this side of a horder. I was able to empty 3 storage units. That was many days of manual labor and $3,000 dollars to pay for labor and hauling. Now I’m down to 2 bedrooms and 2 attics. The consolation prize for me is I now have a craft room that is the size of 2 bedrooms all to myself. Your channel has given so many great ideas and has helped me to stay out of depression land. Thanx for being you!
If you find yourself getting angry at your husband’s, um, inability to throw anything away, please consider seeing a therapist, even if just for a few visits. It helped me and my anger/resentment after my (hoarder/packrat dad passed.
FINALLY!!!!! An organizer with a system that makes sense for my life!!! Yes, I keep every little thing. I am not a minimalist - will never be - don’t want to be. My motto: “ use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without!”
I have to laugh, my dear husband and I were watching one of those remodeling shows once. The host was going to remodel the sewing room. She said in this kind of know it all voice, you don’t really need several sewing machines do you? At which time my dear sweet husband spoke up reminding me why I fell in love with him…he scoffed…what does she know? One’s obviously an embroidery machine, ones a serger, ones a regular machine…they aren’t all the same at all, of course she needs them it’s not the same at all. Eat your heart out HGTV hosts who have no clue about what’s important to keep…lol.
I taught math and we had lots of small manipulatives. I stored them in plastic bags and would put a pinhole in each bag. That way when the kids sealed them, they could press out the air. Since we’re not storing food, the little pinhole doesn’t make a difference in keeping freshness. But it makes it so easy to press out that last bit of air.
Genius! I use a straw to suck air out of food bags, and would have automatically done that for storing things as well. So glad I read the comments for everyone's great ideas
This comes in a perfect time. I'm downsizing my life. In the last 10 years, I've gone from a 3 bed, 2 story house to a 3 bed mobile home to a room in my daughters home. Imagine how much of my crafting supplies I've donated? I'm 70 and feel it! Seeing this idea have given me the solution to organize/downsize.
I am so glad!!!! Crafting is too important to let go - so we have to find a way to make space. Keep me posted on your progress!!!! Consider me your personal cheerleader and giver of suggestions! 💜
I love how you say, “I find value in them (the little random things)”. Every organizer I’ve ever used does not understand that everything has value!!! They always make me pare things down!! I keep things because I know I’ll be able to use them someday. Having them organized makes it so much easier to find when I do need them. Every organizer tells me something stupid like, with all the instruction booklets I keep for things I still have, have you ever used them, then you don’t need them. That’s why you have them for when you need them. Thank you so much!!!❤
I took a VERY different approach with my clients. I always tried to create space and storage for those things they loved and systems so they could easily find them. I’m sorry your experience wasn’t like that.
There's little to compare with that feeling of elation you get when you find the perfect use for that weird little item you have been keeping for the past eight and a half years!
Today most instructions are online but an idea I used was those clip hangers that pants come on, especially the underwear ones or children’s pant hangers. Put all your manuals in bags with any tools or attachments. Write with a marker what appliances it’s for and hang them on a hook in a closet.
@@squintish Agreed! OR … the self-satisfaction when I pull out that one, “used only ever during the 2nd full moon in the week prior to Winter Solstice”, doohickey my fella needs cuz he lost the second to the last one on the planet!! (Made ever better cuz he told me long ago “Throw that stuff out. You’re never gonna need it.”) 🥹😂😂🤣🤣😂🥲🤭‼️
That's what I love about Norrine! Our brains work so well together because we think so much alike, we both find value in the littlest things, and we're both multi-crafters so her organization style fits all my needs. 😃
Great system! I'd also add an index card to the lid of each box, listing all the categories that are housed inside it, so I could see it in a glance. It would also make it easier to ensure each baggie gets back to the right place when I'm done using it. Love this frugal, doable approach.
I framed my index card to decor the cute area where I keep my boxes Used pencil and lots spacing between words so could edit the index card over the yrs❤
Number the bags so you’ll notice if a bag hasn’t been replaced If the bag has a certain number of items, such as my little tubes of Rub & Buff, I’ll write the number along with the name I choose for the bag ❤
🤭😂🤣 Speaking of categories... In my craft room I have a box labeled "Things That Attach Stuff", and I know EXACTLY what's sub categorized inside! Works for me!! Love you, Mini! 🤗❤️🌵❤️🤗
I purchased the bigger Rubbermaid tubs to organize and store my fabrics. I rolled each piece and placed them in the containers on-end. That way they stayed relatively wrinkle free, and I could easily see what fabric I had, and be able to pretty much have an idea of how long the piece was, due to the diameter of it. I started sewing at age 8, and I am now 62! could never resist a good fabric close-out!😂
My husband keeps telling me that I need to just choose one craft to focus on. That’s boring to me. I have supplies to do everything from making miniature wood furniture to quilting. I’m always happy to try a new hobby! The trick is to keep everything organized.
This is amazing, Norrine; probably the most helpful video of yours for me yet. I"m a miniaturist, which is a little (literally) bit of EVERY craft, so I have mountains of supplies, and often really tiny quantities of them. I've saved all the tiny ziploc bags that kit components come in, as well as every small, sturdy box that comes my way, as they're always useful. Now I know how to really maximise their usefulness. It was a real 'a-ha!' moment for me watching this video; thanks SO much for sharing. It's going to make such a huge difference!
I just added miniatures to my list of 70 other hobbies. I need someone to save me from myself, lol. Categorization is often where I fall apart. I either get too broad, too detailed, or confused because should I put the watercolor pencils with the pencils or the watercolors? What about the watercolor markers? Do the pastel pencils go with the pencils or the pastels? Now, do I put my miniature paints with my other acrylic paints or with my miniatures because that's the only thing I use them with?
@@jakobozias7613 , welcome to our wonderful tiny world! It really is the most rewarding hobby, and also the most challenging and frustrating, of every hobby I have ever tried. The great thing is that all the crafts I tried and then abandoned all 'came back' in miniature, so I've stuck with this one hobby for more than 20 years - which is really every art and craft shrunk down - and have never been bored of crafts again; there is always something new to learn. The downside is the extreme mess and the Mount Everest quantity of supplies you end up with - it really is next-level. I strongly recommend keeping all of your acrylic paints together; it won't be long until every paint you have, as well as every other material and tool, is co-opted for your miniatures. With things like your watercolour pencils, think about the outcome you're aiming for - mine are with my watercolours, as I will go to them when I want to produce something that looks like a watercolour painting. (It may make more sense to you to organise by process - watercolour pencils are for 'drawing', so then they'd go with the pencils). Know that there may be a big learning curve with everything you try - most people find scaling down adds another layer of difficulty. Stick with it. Everyone works out their strengths and discovers 'fakery' solutions for what they cannot do. Maybe you'll try metalwork, find that you're hopeless and you hate it, so then you learn how to fake metal work convincingly with polymer clay, you swap your leftover metal for more clay with a mini metalworker, and keep your metalwork tools since they work great with clay. It really is the hobby that no one ever, truly masters - and for me, that's what is so great about it!
@@jakobozias7613 As to your second paragraph, I have what I call my “Color Cart”. Anything to do with adding color to a project is in there. That said, I must confess I’m a paper crafter, so I don’t have cans of spray paint, or such large items. But A L L things (ie., inks, pencils of ALL kinds, markers, etc.) to do with coloring goes into that cart. This thing is on wheels because I craft at my kitchen counter. Recently, I DID move my embossing powders to a separate box which also now houses my heat gun, but mostly because the heat gun was too big to fit in the section with the powders, which I required, and really is a separate kind of thing. Also, except for the 3 rolls of the kinds of runner tape I’m currently using, every other container, roll, bottle, or hangcard bearing “Adherence” of ANY manner is in a different cart in a drawer, and including rubber bands & hair bands, velcro strips, fabric glue, and duck tape!! I guess the point I’m making is: If you have to spend time trying to figure out just where your head was the day you were determining where something ought to reside, that’s time lost to the Creativity Killer!! If you’re looking to put color to paper (Or outside on YOUR DRIVEWAY!!) just make sure ANYTHING is to hand to get it done NOW!! As to your first paragraph, Kid … you’re on your own!! 😉👍‼️
😢Norrine, I love this idea! A couple of years ago I developed the same system for my craft room. I make cards, and I use die cuts A LOT, which results in lots of scraps or odd shaped paper. Not wanting to throw away anything I could use in another progect, I decided to separate my "scraps" into color categories, put each color in a ziplock, and file them in a pretty lidded box. This method has saved me so much time and keeps my craft room tidy. Thanks for sharing this tip.❤
I like your organization ideas. Especially using boxes and household items. So many people suggest buying all these expensive storage containers but not everybody can afford that. Your room is very beautiful. Also, I love the way you have the shelves behind you decorated.
This is great! I'm taking empty bags to dollar tree to find storage bins that fit perfectly. I have so many little scraps left over from so many projects.
As a squirrel-brained crafty person who hobby-hops A LOT.... This is brilliant. I like the simplicity, the affordability, and the ability to break it down as little or as much as I want categorically.
YEAH!!!! Us squirrel-brained crafty people need to stick together!!!! That box/rod/lid/etc has a use!!!! And I usually find it's use!!!! It just may take me a while. LOL
OMG! This is a total game changer! Having ADD I am a “professional “ organizer that never gets anywhere because of all the shiny objects! Using this simple method has helped me focus on the task I’m doing and get stuff done! And it’s cheap! I already had all the stuff; no excuses! It’s freeing to throw away all those little containers and it looks neat and tidy! Total win! Thanks for changing my life and kicking me into gear!!!!
I’m so glad that you’re back on RUclips!!! So happy that you’ve found your new life partner!!! It took me a long time but I found mine 8 years ago and I’m 71 now! Your ideas are so realistic and useful, I just love how down to earth you are! Keep sharing all of your ideas with us, they are so helpful! 🤗👍🏻💕
Congratulations on finding yours!!!! I am very glad to have found the right one. Amazing what you can find once you are not looking and finally happy in your own skin. :)
I love this tip ! Just a few months ago , I totally revamped my WHOLE house ! Including my craft room . I got a lot of the black square fabric totes . Like you put in the square book cases... anyway I tried to use the plastic labels that clip on them ... well they wouldn't stay on . Everytime I got one off the shelf . The tag would fall off . So i.used a chalk pen and wrote directly on the tote !!! And it will wipe off with a wet towel and some soap !!!
I love that idea! I'm using the hanging tags at least they stay on, but they turn over and then I have to mess with them. I think I will test that chalk idea on mine. Thanks for sharing!
I am currently going through my "total house revamp" including a total kitchen and 2 bath teardown to the stud and rebuild! What a transition to go through! My youngest daughter just moved out a few months ago so I have decided to use her room as my new craft/art room! I am tripling the space I currently have and just giddy about the process. This video helped me so much! And I love your idea of the chalk pen on the totes! GREAT IDEA!
This is sort of how I organize my craft items too, but didn’t think of the cardstock liners for writing the categories and to keep it standing. GREAT IDEA!! Thanks 😊
I have used bags like this for a long time, but adding the card stock or firm cardboard to label and keep the bags standing is a great idea. Removing the air is the cherry on top!! Thank you for such great ideas!
Hi, your video just fell from Heaven! I've been a multi crafter for 50 years. I have been spending hours trying to find storage solutions that will work for me. I have recently downsized and your clear bag system will be a huge help to me. Thank you so very much! Brilliant, and affordable! I can't wait to get started. I must say, you have the lovliest commenters. I'll definitely be back for more ideas. One video down, 300 to go lol. Sending love from Connecticut.❤❤
When it comes to choosing categories, I began with the Scrap Rack method. Now, I'm a 'gotta - lotta' girl and don't have room for a 4-base scrap rack system but the categories she suggests has helped my organize in other places throughout my craft room. My biggest tip is to store things together you will use together. Creative Blessings!
We buy our coffee pods by the case. I keep the boxes to make storage boxes. I stick with black and white contact paper to cover my boxes. That way it all blends in.
I do this, too. I've found it really useful for preventing me from buying organizers that don't work for me. Put everything into bags first so I know what belongs together, how much space it takes up and I can still move them around my space easy if I change my mind about things. I'm in the process of purging a lot of my stuff and now I have a mountain of empty plastic bags. My cat for some reason loves them, she steals them frequently from my studio and brings them to me in my bedroom. Sometimes they aren't empty, either.
Your so right about getting the air out of the ziplock bags. I learned that trick when we started using backpacks instead of suitcases to travel to Europe. I used two gallon sized ziplock for our clothes. Now we use carry on suitcases and packing cubes Great ideas. TFS❤
An organizer that gets it! I keep so much ‘maybe I can use this stuff.” Tried to limit myself to one craft for retirement. Yea, that didn’t last long. I HAVE to craft and garden. We seem to be in a no grow microclimate, so I’m learning how to grow things indoor. I’m 81 and all the crafts/gardening are keeping me young. I just need a lot more time. Thank you for the great ideas.
I just started using plastic bags, but I love your tip about the card inside and labeling it, plus seeing how you picked storage bins that fit the bags. Genius!❤
I found your video to be very helpful. My arts and craft supplies have a way of taking over my whole apartment, not only that but I have a arts and crafts supplies thrift business. I'm currently surrounded by chaos and it's quite overwhelming. Your tips will help me immensely! I'm going to use clear containers as much as I can so I can see what's in each one at a glance. Looking forward to exploring your other videos. Thanks again!
Brilliant! I’m getting ready to move into a new home and want to get organized BEFORE I start packing all my craft stuff. I just love the idea of ziploc bags within boxes. 👏👏👏👏
Wow. This is great. I am trying to organize all the different supplies. This makes so much sense. I have ADHD and I need to have a system that will streamline my life. I don’t get rid of things because I can’t afford new supplies. I have to get as much use out of what I can find for free, and that means saving things for future projects.
Well, now, THAT will work. I have been crafting and making for a looooooooong time and I am the most disorganized crafter EVER!!! It's 4:20 a.m. on Monday and I'll be cutting up file folders to fit inside ziplock bags today. Thread and needles and patterns and flotsam and jetsam from all my projects!!! Genius.
Thank you very much.😊 This is such a wonderful idea. I have a very small craft room. Many things ended up in those 12x12 baskets that fit in the cubes. I have quite a few. But I can still use the 12 x 12 cardstock. It will sure make it easier to know what is in the basket!!!! Thank you!! I love organizing. My granddaughter and I are huge Marie Kondo fans. We have decluttered my kitchen and all of our bedroom drawers following her techniques. She is the reason I did a search and found you! I'm happy I did. If you could only see my craftroom. I am disabled and pretty much just stopped working on it. I have so much to fit in this tiny space. It's overwhelming. I pray I complete it this year, I turn 65 next month. I feel like I'm running out of time. My health is not good. You are very gifted at what you do!!😊 Your videos help a lot of people. Thank you! Have a very blessed weekend!!😊❤❤❤
I started my crafting life probably 40 years ago with cross stitching and back then there werent very many storage options so zip lock bags were the go to and I still use them today in my craft room. I think its a wonderful storage solution. Love your videos.
@@TheCraftyOrganizer Mine are just the bags and a sharpie marker but I like the way you did yours. I use to make videos a long time ago but im a medical traveler and I dont get to craft as much and when I do I just dont have the time to film. I have a second channel on YT. When I got covid and almost died in 2020 I couldnt remember my passwords or anything so I had to do a new channel. im enjoying your channel.
I’m sure someone else has already mentioned this, but one EASY WAY to keep the nails/screws from poking holes in their respective bags is to take the wall anchors and screw them onto those pointy, sharp ends just a little bit (not all the way), and you can nestle the larger nails into a wall anchor, as well.
I’m a journal maker and I did a mass make (14) for family and a few ladies retreat (60) so now I’m overwhelmed with keeping large amounts of things like repurposed fabrics that could be used as a cover. AND I have too many ways to store scraps 😂 then I forget thank you for the reminder that a quick simple label is better than no label
Noreen I have been cleaning baggies planning to reuse them to micro organize with them. Now I realize I will have to put inserts in there to make them stand and to label contents. THANKS for sharing. I'm loving seeing the happiness on your face and in your speech; your new husband must be good to and for you. Congrats to you both❤
Most of my fabrics are stored in a deep drawer upright in gallon ziploc bags. I have not added heavy cardstock in the bags but I will to help them stay upright in a tote as I need the bureau for my son's room. I love all the organizing ideas you give us.
This is GENIUS! Ive kept those little bits in mason jars of different sizes... and while its cute to display sometimes, i dont want 100 jars. This really maximizes space!!!!
I recently bought an IKEA Hemnes 3 drawer dresser on sale to use as a gift wrapping station in my dining room. In the deep bottom drawer I gathered all my gift bags and tissue paper. I got a bunch of Dollar Tree napkin holders to hold the bags upright on their sides by color and did the same with tissue paper. Bags and flat boxes too tall to store upright lay flat in the space between the other bags and tissue. In the middle drawer I got two of the small wire kitchen shelves from Dollar Tree, turned upside down to corral rolls of wrapping paper. Christmas wrap is in one and other occasions and generic paper in the other. The top drawer has curl sheet ribbon, tapes, glue, my flat Cricut cutting board and cutting/scoring accessories and scissors. I used some of the hardware boxes that were part of the IKEA packaging to make ribbon dispensers with a hole punch on the side to thread the ribbon through. The top is the perfect height and size to wrap presents without have to bend over like I did at the dining room table. And now everything is together in one spot instead of scattered all over two floors of the house! I am in the process of adding shelves above it to hold my photo boxes that contain spools of cloth ribbon sorted by color and floral/foliage picks. So happy with how it’s turned out so far!
Yes. We keep every little scrap. We use boxes like what you show but we put a list on the outside of the boxes to know what is in the box. Your ideas are really good. We will see about implementing them for our craft room.
Clever! Sort of like storing comic books. You know, if you are super bad at naming things, you could take a picture of a few of the items that go in the bag and stick in on the front.
What a good idea i have just started a craft chanel as im off work. With breast cancer and i am now sorting my craft room. I love this idea to store all my bits that are piling up 😅
I have stored my sponge stamps like this for YEARS. Labeled just as you did. I never thought to do it with other items. I am a very black and white literal minded person, so adjusting one idea to fit other needs just doesn't come to me. Thank you so much for pointing out (the not so obvious) these tips and tricks. Thank you😊
Thanks, Norrine - these storage solutions are perfect for using in my filing cabinet! I can see my air dry clay, tools for it, and silicon molds, my tapes, glues, etc using up far less space, yet being readily accessible!
They come in handy!!!! Nothing makes me happier then finding that perfect item to finish my project - and I've had it just sitting there for years! LOL
@@TheCraftyOrganizer I actually ended up throwing away a 2.5 gallon zip lock bag full of yarn scraps not too long ago bc I was tired of everyone griping about it and then I found about ten new uses for them as soon as they were gone. 😭
Very good idea. I'm gonna try this. I live in one room I sew and craft and play guitar so many things to try to find room for. I do have those cubby boxes and usually buy quart bags. This will help me immensely as I have those plastic drawers but they get stuffed fast. I had heard of sucking the air out with a straw too. Thanks noreen.👍
You are a woman after my own heart.❤ But I am afraid that my items are past the bin stage, I have plastic drawer systems from Walmart for some of my treasures. One drawer for “natural stuff”, one for plastic, another for metal, one for electronics, etc. It did reach a point where I had to split the “natural” items into wood pieces, and cork and pine cones etc. You have inspired me to take a closer look at the wasted space and the frequency of use for my stashes. I usually have a several different projects on the go, so I need to keep my limited workspace organized. One example, I use oversize (for toys) storage bags from the dollar store to hold the fabric, pattern and other supplies when I am sewing. I also save the rigid salad containers as a cheap supply of clear bins. Sorry for rattling on, I was so excited to discover a like minded person. My friends and family may make fun of me, I feel vindicated. 😂
New Subbie here. I am an organizer through and through. Paper Crafting, mixed media and junk journals are my craft. I use a drawer system in a similar way. I like the 12 x 12, three drawer unit you can get from Walmart. Like items in each drawer. Smaller containers inside each drawer to separate items (Intuition brand soap/razor has the cutest little container the refill soap/razors comes in.) Most things I have a lot of or they are too bulky for baggies. I have used a baggie system in a similar manner before but your tips will help to make that system even better. I had to laugh when you were sucking the air out…I do that anytime I use a baggie. Glad to have found you. I also am a thrifty kinda gal so your tips and tricks are right up my alley.
I store my paperscraps just this way by color. It works great for me. I am keeping all of my scraps, even the little tiny ones. I use them for diy embellishments.
I love this idea! My husband agreed to go through his furnace room storage! It was killing me but I stayed away 😮 knowing I could sneak back. 😊 I will do this in my spaces and show him!
I am so glad to see you back! And perfect timing - it seems the first of the year every year my craft studio gets an over haul! You are the one who started me on this journey so many years ago!
Thank you, Norrine. These ideas solve my how-to-store bits and pieces issues. I finally got a craft/sewing room/office but it’s been too disorganized to use. Health and other issues turned it into a storage room. When I finally put things in boxes, it took so long to find the things I needed that I rarely had time to make anything. I’m looking forward to finishing my reorganizing so I can actually finish some projects.
Great idea Norrine! You have me thinking of how I can better organize some of my supplies! Sometimes I think organizing is just as fun as crafting! Thank you for sharing! 😍
OMG I’m so grateful for your video! This is genius! My shed is being delivered on Monday and I had no idea how to organize all this stuff efficiently! Coming up with the categories and naming it the first thing that comes to mind is such a huge help. This is even timed perfectly…I’m headed out for groceries in a few and I can grab it while I’m out! I don’t have shelves yet so this will help me with those decisions as well! YAY!
I use clear plastic lids like a clam-shell for sharp items, and tape the edge approximately 75% around, and place one strip over the top to keep it closed. When i need to remove a few items, I squeeze the sides like the old spring closed change purses to make it bow open.
I love this plan for storing things and letting go of their packaging! It will save so much space! I normally keep the item in its original pkg. This makes me willing to let it go! 😊 ❤ I'm so happy for you that you've found a good person to spend your life with! ❤️ You'll still have challenges, but it's the long haul and how you both work thru things that come up that matters. ❤
This was great timing as I’m reorganizing my entire room! I was just thinking about how to deal with all my little things that I’ve collected (hoarded😜!) I’ve got so much! Thank you! 😊
I love this! I am in the middle of putting together my craft room and will definitely have to use this system! I was getting overwhelmed with some items, but this solves the problem!!
I save all kinds of stuff including scraps of many things as I get excited about junk journaling ideas but everything is in separate little boxes, containers, little bags, etc. and this is a brilliant idea to have it contained. I love the idea of using a file cabinet ti keep it stored away but easy to find. This is going to be a project for me. Overwhelming, but worth my excess but limited time. Thank you
This is perfect for all of those little bits!!! And, Just keep doing a little at a time - just keep adding in alphabetic order as you go.... and move to the next drawer as needed.
Hello Norrine. Fantastic idea! I'm definitely going to be using this in my craft room. And a huge thank you that you have something for a crafter with multiple interests like me 🤗
Thx glad I found you. I’m loving you video, I’m certainly will put in place your suggestions. Yes, I keep scraps to be used on different project. Thank you for your help. Now to tackle my mess.
This video was so very helpful! It solves the age-old problem of where to begin and where to go! Analysis paralysis is a real thing; this method gives you the freedom to fail fast and pivot. It scales! Just start! I only had to grab some ziplock bags to get going; the barrier to entry is so small. I almost got stuck waiting for the 'right container' to come along; don't! Just use whatever you have; you can grow this system. So far, I've organized my crazy card/scrapbook supplies and seeds! Did I mention how forgiving this method is? If you get stuck or change your mind, it is not the end of the world. Please make more videos about this method; it's so wonderful.
This is how I keep my 600 sewing patterns! I clip a tiny corner out of the gallon bag for the air. But, yeah, cardstock inside, pattern maker and number written on top, filed by number, in milk crates which I got cheap or free, stored on a inexpensive aluminum shelf. Then I have made scans of the pattern cover and I can find what I want on a spreadsheet or printed in a book easy. Best thing? I don't have to fold my patterns back tiny and put them in the envelope. So much easier to fold larger and put in the bag.
Wow! Just wow! I’ve done something similar to this in the past with dividers but without the bags - the bags make all the difference and make so much more sense! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! 💜
Wow…just 😮genius! I’ve been so stuck organizing the “miscellaneous” and this is so simply perfect! I’m excited to try for my kitchen etc. as well. I see myself making this “cheap” and “classy” for different needs. Love, love, I haven’t been this excited or motivated to go implement/try an idea like this in a long time.
Yes, I do this too! Keep everything! I love your system. I created using a large bin, labeled it, “Arts and crafts!” But items in plastic bags aren’t labeled. Everything just dropped in bin. I’ll work on the different size boxes/bins and label individually. Looks better and easier to retrieve! Now I just need to find the time to work on my projects! 😂. I’ll check out your other videos to see if you have any ideas for finding time. 😀 Thank you, and my husband thanks you too! 😊🌺
I keep every scrap of anything. I even keep the torn off paper from journal making. I categorize in fabric. lace and paper in large, medium, small & mini. Then sometimes I categorize colours, depends how much there is or how often I use specific colours. I use neutrals and pinks and yellows a lot and I also sort into pastels and brights. Another thing I use because I download lots of free printables is those plastic wallets and store them the same, but now I'm going to organize them with your tips in mind. Thanks heaps, as always. Di
I love that!!!! And I am the same way! When I am scrap booking or junk journaling - the corner scrap comes in handly!!! So glad you liked this idea. xooxo
I have clear bins sorted by Sharp things Sticky things Poking and stapling things Wire things Wood things Paper things Plastic things Leather things Fabric things Resin things And everything is visible through the bins... and those KFC bowls are *so good* for sorting and keeping the small bits of a project together!
I rarely see something that makes sense for organizing... too expensive, too time-consuming, too difficult to aquire, doesn't work (wasted money)... but this is GOOD! I love that it works for my art space and my woodworking. Thank you! Can't wait to implement this.
OMGosh! That is a compliment!!!! Thanks, Jeri!!
I just said the same thing about my art studio! I have several things that get bent and unusable if not stored flat. I keep a mish mash of leftover crafting items I rarely use in my drawers. This storage solution will free them up so I can get to my smaller art supplies.
Genius!! I shared this video. TFS. Huge HUGS! Namesta 🐞🐞🐞"There'll always be serendipity involved in discovery".
Great idea. I would probably round the corners of the cardstock so they won't poke thru the bag. I use the gallon bags to store fabric that way.
@@nancyguerrero6662 🤓 so smart👍🐞🐞🐞
Thanx for sharing! Unfortunately my husband passed away and couple of months ago. He was just this side of a horder. I was able to empty 3 storage units. That was many days of manual labor and $3,000 dollars to pay for labor and hauling. Now I’m down to 2 bedrooms and 2 attics. The consolation prize for me is I now have a craft room that is the size of 2 bedrooms all to myself. Your channel has given so many great ideas and has helped me to stay out of depression land. Thanx for being you!
I am very sorry for your loss.
Condolences and happy you are discovering some things to enjoy. God bless you ma’am.
Great ideas!
If you find yourself getting angry at your husband’s, um, inability to throw anything away, please consider seeing a therapist, even if just for a few visits. It helped me and my anger/resentment after my (hoarder/packrat dad passed.
I am so sorry for your loss. I wish I could come help! I hope that craft space becomes your healing and happy place soon. 💐
FINALLY!!!!! An organizer with a system that makes sense for my life!!! Yes, I keep every little thing. I am not a minimalist - will never be - don’t want to be. My motto: “ use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without!”
That is an awesome motto!!!! Glad this system will work for you! Thanks, Suzanne!
😆 You found a good guy!!!! I yell at those shows all of the time!!!!! Tell him he earned a gold star from me!
Wow, what a cool husband!!
Smart!!!!! Thanks for sharing.
I second this! Been doing this for a while, thought I was the only one that did this 🎉
Great idea! Thanks for sharing. 😃
Genius! I use a straw to suck air out of food bags, and would have automatically done that for storing things as well. So glad I read the comments for everyone's great ideas
Future teacher here, I am stealing this idea! Thanks for sharing
Fantastic method! Thanks for sharing. 🤗👍
Finally someone has come up with an organization system that just makes sense AND it’s affordable
WOOHOO!!!!! Glad you like this!
So glad someone has addressed the multi crafter. So nice to see you. Great ideas. 😊
Thank you! 😊
That's a great idea!
I framed my index card to decor the cute area where I keep my boxes
Used pencil and lots spacing between words so could edit the index card over the yrs❤
Number the bags so you’ll notice if a bag hasn’t been replaced
If the bag has a certain number of items, such as my little tubes of Rub & Buff, I’ll write the number along with the name I choose for the bag ❤
🤭😂🤣 Speaking of categories... In my craft room I have a box labeled "Things That Attach Stuff", and I know EXACTLY what's sub categorized inside! Works for me!! Love you, Mini! 🤗❤️🌵❤️🤗
Love that! I was thinking of our mutual love of ’stuff’ while making this video 😘
Yippers, us and our "stuff" 😉😉@@TheCraftyOrganizer
Same, but my category is “adhesives” and it has velcro and brads and zip ties and glues and tapes, if it adheres things to things its an “adhesive”!
@@lesliebooth2833 I love the way you think! It's the way I think much of the time, too. Lol
Me too!!
I started sewing at age 8, and I am now 62! could never resist a good fabric close-out!😂
That's a great idea! Thanks for sharing!
My husband keeps telling me that I need to just choose one craft to focus on. That’s boring to me. I have supplies to do everything from making miniature wood furniture to quilting. I’m always happy to try a new hobby! The trick is to keep everything organized.
You can do it! Consider me your personal cheerleader and giver of suggestions! 💜
@@TheCraftyOrganizer Thank you, and I will!💕💖
There are lots of us out here ❤
This is amazing, Norrine; probably the most helpful video of yours for me yet.
YAY!!!! Thanks, Jacqueline! That really makes me happy to hear.
Great, what categories do you use for your miniatures? 10:59
I am “such a little stuff keeper”! I drives my hubby and daughter crazy! But when they need something they know who to ask!
Isn't that so true!!!!! It's rare that I can't find something to make my project work in my miscellaneous box! It all has value to me! LOL
Yes! My husband says I have a lit of "junk", but when he wants something I can usually provide it.
Have you ever seen how I organize my paper scraps?? Check it out:
ruclips.net/video/migbSUlzL-g/видео.html&t=204s
I like your organization ideas. Especially using boxes and household items. So many people suggest buying all these expensive storage containers but not everybody can afford that. Your room is very beautiful. Also, I love the way you have the shelves behind you decorated.
Thank you so much!!!
This is great! I'm taking empty bags to dollar tree to find storage bins that fit perfectly. I have so many little scraps left over from so many projects.
Yay! Let me know how it goes!!!!
Missed you terribly, Maureen. You help me every time you do any of your videos. Thanks again.
Wow! Thank you so much!!!
I am so excited to hear this will work for you!!!! Keep me posted!
I’m so glad that you’re back on RUclips!!! So happy that you’ve found your new life partner!!! It took me a long time but I found mine 8 years ago and I’m 71 now!
Bravo!!!!
Bravo!!!!
Bravo!!!!
GREAT IDEA!
I also keep every little scrap. You never know when that scrap is the perfect one!
Right????? That's how I think!
I have kept things in zipper bags for ages, but i never put paper inside to make them stand up.
Try it! It really helps
This is sort of how I organize my craft items too, but didn’t think of the cardstock liners for writing the categories and to keep it standing. GREAT IDEA!! Thanks 😊
Thanks, Carrie! Hope it helps. Thanks for being with me for so long.
I have used bags like this for a long time, but adding the card stock or firm cardboard to label and keep the bags standing is a great idea. Removing the air is the cherry on top!! Thank you for such great ideas!
So glad you liked it!!!!
Such a smart way to order the miscellaneous stuff we crafters collect!!
I thought to too! I don't want to let go of those treasures!!!
Well, isn't that just the sweetest thing to say!!! I am very lucky to have such wonderful and kind viewers. Thanks for being one of them. 💜
Yep!!! I call those my 'zones'. :)
We buy our coffee pods by the case. I keep the boxes to make storage boxes. I stick with black and white contact paper to cover my boxes. That way it all blends in.
I do the SAME thing!!! LOVE those boxes!!!
That is too funny. Maybe she is trying to help! LOL
Your so right about getting the air out of the ziplock bags. I learned that trick when we started using backpacks instead of suitcases to travel to Europe. I used two gallon sized ziplock for our clothes. Now we use carry on suitcases and packing cubes
Great ideas.
TFS❤
Thanks for watching! And I use these bags when traveling too! :)
Genius!❤
:) Thank you!!
Glad it was helpful! Let me know if you have specific organizing needs 🥰
Brilliant! I’m getting ready to move into a new home and want to get organized BEFORE I start packing all my craft stuff. I just love the idea of ziploc bags within boxes. 👏👏👏👏
Happy organizing! And good luck with the move.
Wow. This is great. I am trying to organize all the different supplies. This makes so much sense. I have ADHD and I need to have a system that will streamline my life. I don’t get rid of things because I can’t afford new supplies. I have to get as much use out of what I can find for free, and that means saving things for future projects.
Let me know how this works for you!
Genius.
Woohooo!!!! So glad it will help you!!!! Now, you deserve a nice long nap! 😘
You are very gifted at what you do!!😊
Your videos help a lot of people. Thank you!
Have a very blessed weekend!!😊❤❤❤
Happy Early Birthday, Linda!!!! I wish you lived close to me - I'd come help you in your craft room!!!
I started my crafting life probably 40 years ago with cross stitching and back then there werent very many storage options so zip lock bags were the go to and I still use them today in my craft room. I think its a wonderful storage solution. Love your videos.
Wow!!! I love hearing that you’ve been using bags for so long!!!! Amazing!
@@TheCraftyOrganizer Mine are just the bags and a sharpie marker but I like the way you did yours. When I got covid and almost died in 2020 I couldnt remember my passwords or anything so I had to do a new channel. im enjoying your channel.
If it works... it works! :)
Nope! You are the first and that is so smart!!!!! Thank you!
WOW!!!!! That IS a mass make! Amazing! Hope this helps you stay on top of all those fun little bits!
Why hasn’t someone come up with this sooner…YOU ARE A GENIUS!!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this idea.
Aww! Thank you! I am so happy it's useful to you.

So nice to find kindred spirits!!!! Hope to see you again.
I like the idea of storing a lot of little things in one area, in separate baggies. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Excellent way to organize and see at a glance whatever you’re looking for. Thank you! 💜😇
For the sharp items, you could also put card stock on both sides.
SO TRUE!
Using this idea to sort out, the enormous tub of, pictures!
Perfect use for this system!!!
I've been watching so many organization videos. This is by far the best one. Your ideas are practical and inexpensive. Thank you.
Thank you so much, Pauline!!!! That is always my goal. :)
It does!!!! Let me know how it goes!
What an excellent idea! It seems like such an easy solution when someone else talks about how to do it! Thank you for the suggestions.
I have that dresser - not a stitch of clothing in it! LOL Games, video and DVD's Frames... amazing storage!
Yes. We keep every little scrap. We use boxes like what you show but we put a list on the outside of the boxes to know what is in the box. Your ideas are really good. We will see about implementing them for our craft room.

Wonderful idea. I have used storage bags, but haven't focused on getting the air out like you showed.
It really helps!!
Thank you Norrine!❤ I need to get started on this!!!❤
You've got this!
Clever! Sort of like storing comic books. You know, if you are super bad at naming things, you could take a picture of a few of the items that go in the bag and stick in on the front.
What a good idea i have just started a craft chanel as im off work. With breast cancer and i am now sorting my craft room. I love this idea to store all my bits that are piling up 😅
Sending you strength! And good luck with your channel! If you have any tips on how your organize your crochet tools, I'll happily share your channel 💜
Much love to you.
Thank you
I've managed to store so much in a shoe door hanger it's soo fab 👌
I have stored my sponge stamps like this for YEARS. Labeled just as you did. I never thought to do it with other items. I am a very black and white literal minded person, so adjusting one idea to fit other needs just doesn't come to me. Thank you so much for pointing out (the not so obvious) these tips and tricks. Thank you😊
You are so welcome!!
I like this idea
Thanks, Norrine - these storage solutions are perfect for using in my filing cabinet! I can see my air dry clay, tools for it, and silicon molds, my tapes, glues, etc using up far less space, yet being readily accessible!
7:40 yessss, I keep all the scraps, too, and it drives everyone crazy.

I hope you like it as much as I do!!!
@@TheCraftyOrganizer I'm sure I will thanks again.
You could always bag the items within those category drawers to make finding something easier! But - if it's working as in - then it's PERFECT!

Great organization tip! I do keep my scraps to use on other projects.
To be honest , she’s a genius at this point demonstrating skills lol. May I know how long you’ve been into this page .!????.!?
I love this idea! My husband agreed to go through his furnace room storage! It was killing me but I stayed away 😮 knowing I could sneak back. 😊 I will do this in my spaces and show him!

Love this idea of bags and card🥰🥰🥰💐💐💐💐
I am so glad to see you back! And perfect timing - it seems the first of the year every year my craft studio gets an over haul! You are the one who started me on this journey so many years ago!
Aw! That makes me so happy. Thanks for being with me all this time. 💐
That is how my space has been too..... we will get back to crafting! I know it. 💟
Great idea Norrine! You have me thinking of how I can better organize some of my supplies! Sometimes I think organizing is just as fun as crafting! Thank you for sharing! 😍
Diane - we are so alike! I love going through and sorting all of those little treasures!!!!
So do I❣️
Ooooh...so do I
This is an amazing idea! Thank you so much 💓
OMG I’m so grateful for your video!
YAY!
How exciting!!!! Take pictures for me! I'd love to see how your space evolves! 💐
I use clear plastic lids like a clam-shell for sharp items, and tape the edge approximately 75% around, and place one strip over the top to keep it closed. When i need to remove a few items, I squeeze the sides like the old spring closed change purses to make it bow open.
Oh, I like that idea!!!! Thanks!
I love this plan for storing things and letting go of their packaging! It will save so much space! I normally keep the item in its original pkg. This makes me willing to let it go! 😊 ❤
I'm so happy for you that you've found a good person to spend your life with! ❤️ You'll still have challenges, but it's the long haul and how you both work thru things that come up that matters. ❤
Thank you so much! I couldn't agree more. I didn't realize how much better life could be, until I did finally meet the right person. ❤
I do that too.. sometimes I use a straw!😂
To be honest , she’s a genius at this point demonstrating skills lol. May I know how long you’ve been into this page .!????.!?
I love this!! I’m going to use this to organize the “this and that” in my classroom!! 💜
Hey you!!!! I should come up and help you!!!!
Omg yes please!! You’re welcome any time 💜
Great tips❗️I took photos of my clutter! On my goodness! I have a huge job for myself! I’m loving you & your channel❣️🕊️
So glad to have you here with me! I have a huge job in my own space.... we will both take our time and enjoy the process. 💐
This was great timing as I’m reorganizing my entire room! I was just thinking about how to deal with all my little things that I’ve collected (hoarded😜!) I’ve got so much! Thank you! 😊
You got this!
I think...at first...what you were doing was so crazy...but I kept watching your video. This just may work! 🙂
I love this! I am in the middle of putting together my craft room and will definitely have to use this system! I was getting overwhelmed with some items, but this solves the problem!!
That makes me so happy to hear!!!
New subscriber. Thanks for creating great content!
Welcome! Thanks for joining my crafty family!!
Hello Norrine. Fantastic idea! I'm definitely going to be using this in my craft room. And a huge thank you that you have something for a crafter with multiple interests like me 🤗
You are so welcome! It's because I get distracted by anything shiny. LOL
@@TheCraftyOrganizer Ha Ha You're preaching to the choir 😚😚
😆
Love the idea
I keep everything and this video comes at the right time
Yay! Hope it works for you.
Thx glad I found you. I’m loving you video, I’m certainly will put in place your suggestions. Yes, I keep scraps to be used on different project. Thank you for your help. Now to tackle my mess.
You've got this! Consider me your personal cheerleader and giver of suggestions! 💜
Quilters wrap fabric around comic book boards - then file vertically on a cabinet or in your box.
Smart!
I am so happy to hear this!!!! I always thought it was an easy system too... I am SO glad it clicked for you!!! Keep me posted on your progress!
I think YOU should make a video!!! That is a system many sewers would LOVE to see!!! Thanks for sharing!
I may do that!@@TheCraftyOrganizer
Wow! Just wow!
I’ve done something similar to this in the past with dividers but without the bags - the bags make all the difference and make so much more sense! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! 💜
You are so welcome!!!!!
To be honest , she’s a genius at this point demonstrating skills lol. May I know how long you’ve been into this page .!????.!?
I always keep every scrap; you just never know when you are going to need it. Pauline
That’s what I think too!!!! lol
Thank you, and my husband thanks you too!
😊🌺
So glad it was helpful!!!
So glad you liked this idea. xooxo
"Manual" suction. How cute! (I do that, too!)
LOL I kept going back and forth on if I should show that or not... but it's how I do it! 😂
First time here. Yes, I keep all the little scraps
Welcome! Yay! I am so glad I am not alone. :)
I have clear bins sorted by
Sharp things
Sticky things
Poking and stapling things
Wire things
Wood things
Paper things
Plastic things
Leather things
Fabric things
Resin things
And everything is visible through the bins... and those KFC bowls are *so good* for sorting and keeping the small bits of a project together!
I love your labeling system! So cute! And I agree... you saw I keep those KFC bowls! LOL
This is a good tip. I like the way you can just flip through these after putting them away, low effort
