Emily Haines is one of my heroes. She totally speaks from the heart about music and creating art..I love how organic the concepts are behind Metric's music.
Emily, you are a sound that can make me happy when I just want everything to end. I honestly think that you are an amazing artist and you have brought a lot of amazing experiences into my life. With that out of the way, and acknowledging that we all know you don't WANT to be a poster pop idol, can we all just admit that you're gorgeous and move on with it? lol When I say that I can separate it from your art. Obviously the fact that you're a brilliant artist makes you that much more beautiful.

I love Emily and Metric for their unique sound. I hate how everything mainstream is more about the music video and the artist than the actual music. Not everything has to be this over simplified processed cheese. Emily is a true artist not just some wannabe-performer-shock-pop-dope-me-up-and-show-my-sex-tape-already like the majority of women in the music industry these days.
...maybe the point of what she's saying is that being trapped in a body, particularly a female body, is just that: a trap, or some kind of prison. When everyone is constantly judging you on your perceived beauty and second listening to your music... it's disheartening. I just watched an interview w/ her at an awards ceremony, and the first thing the interviewer commented on was how sexy and gorgeous she is. So... to "be a sound", is a freedom from the prison.
Years before this incarnation of Metric, I was very much in the school of indie rock of asexuality - the more like a guy you were, the more a real musician you were. But now, the direction I’ve taken it in terms of performance is acknowledging the part of me that is a girl… which probably doesn’t sound good in print. @indiglowww Are you claiming that she sold out because she did a song for Eclipse? You know, Paramore did a song for Twilight... and I lost a bit of respect for them. But then I realized, I like Paramore's music. Even though I don't like Twilight, that's fine... the song they produced for Twilight was still really good. So to sum it up- I feel that if Metric wants to produce a song for Eclipse... fine, I like the song, and I like the band. That's all that matters.
@bboyblue24 Yeah, but in many ways it helps with success. Your work is your reputation, and if you do well, you want to keep it that way and do not want to go in the wrong direction. Television is a double-edged sword, it can help with publicity, but it gives the music an image that too many people misinterpret.
its such a shame how the music biz works, all they seem to do is take it, abuse it,sqeeze it until theres nothing left, then throw it away like if it was a banna peel, and go to the next thing thats in the in crowd.
judging by your comment I guess you hate her because of her pretty mediocre cover of Between the Bars but I don't think your comments really count for this video seeing as she's just being a genuine person, not really quirky. But I don't know what to think anymore, her solo work seems to contradict any bitchy, drugged-up thing she does with Metric
