Another thing that Guiding Light has in common with Eastenders is that they both have had Strong Ties to Motown. They've played Motown Songs over the years and former Motown Songwriters Ashford (RIP) and Simpson appeared on the show and Eastenders did their own Tribute to Motown.
It's so quirky how Families are introduced. On A UK Soap they all come together, but in The US they bring in One Person, see how they click with The Fans then bring in a Family. What's so funny is that on The Bold & The Beautiful 1987-Present, Bill Spencer Sr., goes on about Caroline being his "Only Child", now he has a Son, Grandson & Great Grandson not to mention Caroline's Twin Sister Karen. Joanna Johnson (Caroline/Karen) & Susan Flannery (Stephanie) were "Involved" in real life. Susan was also involved with Fannie Flagg who wrote Fried Green Tomatoes and played The Nurse in Grease.
You know what's so amazing. Eastenders debuted on February 19th 1985 which was Smokey Robinson's 45 Birthday. He guest starred on Two Soaps Generations (The first and only full fledged integrated Soap), and The Young & The Restless as a Club Promoter. Then when the Slaters arrived on September 18th 2000 they took the Square by storm. Sadly September 18th 2009 was the day that Guiding Light was Cancelled after 72 Years overall 15 on Radio and 57 on TV.
