Just in case everyone didn’t know, because i didn’t for a long time. After creed the band (minus Scott) stayed together added in Myles Kennedy as singer and formed Alter Bridge. AMAZING band! Might be my favorite rock band of all time.
They made some incredible songs together. My own prison is about as powerful a rock song as you'll ever hear and his song he wrote about his about to be born son "Arms wide open" is something any expecting father or mother should listen to and cherish. They had a great sound and were pretty awesome.
Creed was my first favorite band ever. I'm so glad I've now gotten to hear Scott Stapp speak, because he seems like he has a lot to offer the world. Thanks, Theo.
The best thing that happened to Creed was summed up in these words. Alter Bridge. It took a literal line up change and a tweak in sound and they didn't need Stapp in it.
@@anthonyjenkins2001 They all have their writing contributions. All of them including Myles are all great songwriters. Why else did Myles' collabs with Slash and solo efforts work?
Really enjoyed this episode, Scott seems so laid back and down to earth. Not everybody can admit mistakes, just blame it all on someone else is so much easier. Felt like Theo and Scott could relate to each other on many levels. Awesome. Onward...
@Fresh Binaca.. I heard the same thing. Especially when he said, "making poor decisions, and thinking I was taking one for the team when actually etc etc".. Its like hes trying to make it SEEM like hes taking blame, but also sounds like excuses n like hes being really obscure, basically beating around the bush and not really saying much
Bring more rock legends like these from the 90s-2000s cos everytime we see is rappers, athletes or comedians on podcasts! Love to listen from legendary artists who made our teen or childhood better
Tf are you talking about? If you don't wanna see those things than you don't have to. Watch what you want. All the greats from then have channels. Ppl like you are why aliens won't talk to us.
It can be both. Rap, Rock, comedy, it's all relevant and interesting. But it makes financial sense to have more rappers since Hip hop is the number one music genre domestically and internationally.
@MONEY CITY MANIAC It is everything internationally. I'm sorry you can't handle facts, but it overtook rock music a decade ago as the number one music exported from America
They are certainly tied to that era. Their career did not span decades, but you’ll transport back in time mentally when you hear their records. Just like for example: Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Kid Rock, they all had about a good decade of dominance and then it was done . But anyone from that time (late 90’s to earlier 2000’s ) made an lasting impression on not just American music at the time, but the entire world.
Their music is so beautiful. I don't think Creed needed to "party on" forever. It was a religious tribute to humanity with beautiful, nostalgic lyrics; not everything has to become some eternal repetitive machine. I think so many musicians feel pressure to "keep the party going" that they lose sight of the music ... Touring, show after show. Get back to your heart, and connect with inspiration. Nothing was lost, because I believe the purpose was served; it's timeless, beautiful passion. There can be new bands or journeys for their poetry.
I never liked Creed or any band mentioned above but,all of those artist were last of their kind. Rock n Roll hasn't been popular post 2009. I'll give all of those bands,Creed included, that no one rock n roll band has been able to match their popularity, for that long, since 07/08.
Yes, I think he would agree but I can also understand the stress and pressure and wanting to make it all just… go away. I’m not going to beat him up over it. I’m sure he’s done it more than any of us ever could.
Well... Kinda... But then there's Mike Tyson, Michael Jackson, Harvey Weinstein, Ezra Miller, Bill Cosby, Jada Pinkett ... Scott is not a top-tierer by no means.
@@1Deep43VAI agree. I think at face value it seems so ridiculous to stop when you’re at the top, but none of us know what that’s like. It’s more pressure than we’ve ever felt, having what feels like the entire world looking at you at all times.
I've always loved creed. The song, torn, goes so hard. I also went to church and experienced first hand religious toxicity, and that song got me through that. I use to blame God but then I matured and realized it was the church that was toxic not the word.
Amen to that. Pastor here. I've experienced it, and worked through it. Didn't expect the Lord to make me a pastor. Doing my best to help a church grow healthy and do the good service it's supposed to do. May the Lord guide your steps, because the Biblical Jesus has all we need.
I was involved in a car pile up out of Houston In 2001. Best concert I've been to. Totaed the car. We walked away and shouldn't have. We were being watched over. Still love Creed. Keep singing Scott. Love your voice and message.
I've been newly obsessed with the acoustic version of Creed's My Own Prison floating around here on RUclips and can't get over the utter internal turmoil and pain it conveys--certainly through its lyrics, but even more so through the notes and cords of the music itself. It really evokes deep emotions for me.
my favorite band in the early 2000's. they seemed to talk to me and where I was in life then. 9/11 happened and Creed had all the Anthems for that particular time. just recently married and finding that spiritual strength through their music. they were very special to me in a time of introspection.
I have a ton of respect for what Scott has accomplished. The responsibility to perform night in and night out he speaks of is a massive blessing and should be viewed as such. When you see that as a burden or a source of anxiety...maybe the business is no longer for you. Many see a career in music as a big joy ride...it's majority the polar opposite...the focus is on the folks in attendance, sometimes at your expense. They have always said its a tough business...its a fact. Good stuff fellas!
I wrote a shitty comment. I deleted it. This dude doesn’t need that anymore. He’s felt every moment and every regret….I hope you stay happy and clear headed Stapp 👍
At the height of their popularity he was an egotistical asshole who claimed to be a Christian but was anything but. He deserved the backlash and karma.
Creed is and always will be my favorite band. Saw them a couple times in my younger days. Just saw Scott perform a few months ago and I was shocked. His voice was amazing! He sounded better than ever. I love his solo albums and of course love Tremonti in Alterbridge, his solo albums, and his Sinatra covers too. I hope they get back together again some day.
Creed, always a favorite. I saw them before 4 times. I saw Scott Stapp when he did acoustic in Charlotte a couple of years ago with his album. And now...Creed again last night! They are epic!!
The short version of why they broke up and stopped touring was born out my first time seeing them. The most hyped show at the time, impossible to get tickets, etc. Drove an hour to see them back in my hometown of The Woodlands, Tx. 22,000 people in a sold out amphitheater. Lights dropped, first song came on and half way through, Stapp waived off the band, the music stopped, he said, "I'm sorry, I just can't do it, I can't do it anymore...." Walked off stage, crowd was shocked. A local radio DJ came out and apologized that the show was being cancelled. Why? Stapp couldn't sing the vocals live in a tour load. He was full of steroids to keep his vocal chords going and just ran out of ability. It happened again and again and the band basically called it quits.
This hits a lot of artists and why it's so important to write songs within a range that is comfortable for you to sing. The occasional extension is fine, but you have some artists that write things that are just nuts, and it's easy to do in a studio where tracks are recorded in segments, or in sets of just a couple songs like live on talk shows, but for a two hour show back to back nights? It still happens with artists now. Sam Smith, while a totally different genre, did the same thing and if you notice a lot of his new stuff is a lot more tempered. It makes you look at it in a totally different light.
Seems like Scott has done a lot of healing & has come to terms with a lot of of the bridges that he potentially burned with his band. You can tell when he was talking about ego’s in the band, he was mainly talking about himself. But I’m glad he seems to be at peace with everything & dudes seems genuinely happy.
Saw Stapps solo show in 2019 before the pandemic. Great show. He is still singing well and better than he had in years. I hope Creed can reform but not at the sacrifice of Alter Bridge or any of that bands projects.
He left out the part that the reason for their breakup was his drug addiction. He was straight up losing it. Multiple arrests, domestic abuse, saying and doing crazy shit. His band tried desperately to get him help.
Well that is the addict way. Deflect and refuse to acknowledge. It's clear he hasn't dealt with his primary issues if he can't openly admit what the real causes were. He eluded to the "bad decisions" but never actually said it. Him refusing to own that is a big character flaw. It was just a few years ago he was begging fans for money insisting he wasn't on drugs again. But it appears he's doing okay now. I don't care for Scott, I think he's a selfish asshole that hides behind his faith and "forgiveness" but I'm glad he's doing better.
I remember before creed ever made it big they lived on sixth Avenue in Tallahassee Florida played at Floyd’s and then one day they got their break. They were an amazing local band, and even though there were issues, I’m really glad they were able to rise above go their own way and do solo projects. Creed was an amazing part of the 90s and it wasn’t just all Scott mark Tremonti if I spelled that correctly is an amazing guitarist.❤
He was suffering from undiagnosed Bipolar. So he deserves a little slack for self medicating. Seems to be doing great these days. Hopefully they can reunite down the road. I'd definitely pay to see them again 🔥
Creed was great, but the band (minus Scott) stayed together and formed alter bridge which is imho by far a better band. Don’t get me wrong I loved and still love some creed songs. But alter Bridge is just amazing. If you haven’t checked them out. I would recommend it!
Been there from the beginning, met the band a couple of times. Love all them. Amazing musicians, and if it wasn't for Scott I probably wouldn't be saved! His words always inspired me.
They are still together lol...With a thousand times better lead vocalist in Myles Kennedy...The band is called Alter bridge and has been going on for 20 years
@@sean8470fit? Totally different now! MYLES has a 4 octave range and is one of the top vocalists in rock. Scott was unique but not in the same galaxy ...
Creed was and always will be my favorite band ever. I wish we could've gotten more, but...i'm happy that we got anything at all to begin with. I'm thankful for the music and all the emotions these songs gave me.
There is another side of story that he doesn't want talk about and that was his addiction to drugs and alcohol. He refused to get help . His bandmates had enough with the drama
Not really a big nb fan, but I saw an interview where the reporter asked why people hate on them. Chad said " I don't know, we're still selling out shows".
Creed was one of my childhood's biggest bands. They were so massive with that first and second albums. No problem filling up massive stadium after stadium.
My first concert ever was Creed. I was 14, 15 and I remember the ENTIRE front row consisted of stoners puffing FAT clouds lol. Great show and still have respect for Creeds music to this day. Scott Stapps vocals were God tier back in the day

My brother introduced me to Creed when I was a weeee lad and I remember just loving the hell out of everything that they did. Such talented musicians. I met Mark a few times and he's the coolest dude.
Creed was my first concert! They came to my hometown and it was one of the biggest ones we ever had, filled up the entire fairgrounds and felt like half the town had come out for it. Had SevenDust and Finger11 I think if memory serves right, shit was off the charts, then after I stayed over at a friend's and we ended up popping the CDs we had bought in my truck and just cruising and causing a ruckus and having a good ass time singing along to all the shit we heard live earlier. Had a lotta good starts to a weekend before, but that one will always stick around my noggin!
Loved this interview loved the band creed who didn't, it's sad when the bands we love with so many beautiful songs that make your soul warm Theo is a fantastic guy who never bored me loved him from rr way back in the day and he's just gotten more awesome as time goes by love him.
His comments about the entire show rested on his ability to go out and sing, shows why the band broke up. He is a tool who is full of himself. the remaining members of creed have been Alter Bridge since 2004 and have had no problems. Stapp is the common dominator.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping that they patch things up between each other. I know it's a little selfish to say, but I really want to go to one of their concerts at some point in the future and even if I never got to go just getting to hear some new songs from them on the radio or my phone would be really awesome.
I don't think its a matter of them patching things up. Mark, Brian, and Flip are just too busy with Alter Bridge and their side projects. Mark has put out 10 albums since 2012 averaging 1 album a year with just Alter Bridge and his solo stuff.
Make no mistake, one of the biggest reasons, perhaps the main reason, Creed broke up was because of Scott. At the time, Scott was abusing drugs and alcohol, had serious mental issues and was well known by fans and insiders alike for being a huge egomaniac and douchebag. All that started affecting not just relationships with the bandmates but the band itself. (See how some Creed fans actually filed a lawsuit against them when Scott came on stage wasted and mumbled his words.) I'm glad he got help and seems to be doing much better now, but he was not the same person then as he is portraying himself here. The band's breakup was not just due to them "growing apart" and all that.
Kommisar You're absolutely right, he gave a diplomatic or watered down answer which I guess is understandable when You were actually the problem or reason of the issues...but glad he is a lot better and came back from the Abyss..and hope maybe we will see a reunion sometimes soon
@@210-spurs-hustlehard5 He gave a pretty watered down, euphamised (hopefully that's a real word) version of it. He never mentioned anything about drug addiction affecting their tours and relationships between the band members.
The second hiatus and “egos” is clearly Mark, Scott definitely contributed to it but Mark is hands down one of the best guitarist of all time and I recognize that as a not-so-much creed fan.
@@Huitzel What the hell are you babbling about? Scott had a reputation for being a douchebag and a drunk, not Mark. That was one of the primary reasons Creed broke up. Those are facts you can look up.
To me at the heart of it was Scott's unawareness of his bipolar disorder and what he did to himself in that time without truly knowing why. All of the antics, the drinking the drugs ect. And then fast forward to 2009, same thing.
We still bumpin your arm wide open song. In 2024 to 2025, still listen to ur new song. 😂❤😮🎉 Pray for stop da ww3 and stop global warming, prayer for stop world ends hungry and stravetion.

I think some of their stuff is awesome. And honestly, compared to what’s mostly played on the radio and mainstream culture today, I’d KILL for them on the radio!!!
The real issue is Mark wanted to be something greater. His skillset during Creed's run was impressive. Went from a typical guitar player to a great. He needed a better singer than Scott. I was crushed when Creed broke up. But we got Myles. Now Myles will go down as one of the greatest singers ever.
"Why did Creed break up"
"Well I lost my absolute mind for a while, that was one thing"
"And well, theo, I don't have to tell you about the dookie piranas am I right"

Creed had some great songs. This band was huge back in the early 2000’s. “Hello old friend, we meet again!” 🎶
More like late 90’s. By the 2000’s they’d pretty much started heading down hill only riding the success of the 90’s

Just in case everyone didn’t know, because i didn’t for a long time. After creed the band (minus Scott) stayed together added in Myles Kennedy as singer and formed Alter Bridge.
AMAZING band! Might be my favorite rock band of all time.
They suck.
Mental health is nothing to be fooled around with. Thank God Scott got help and has made it through. Alot of them didn't and are know longer with us.
If he would get his act together then yeah. His first solo album was fantastic, esp "Broken", Powerful song
The best thing that happened to Creed was summed up in these words. Alter Bridge. It took a literal line up change and a tweak in sound and they didn't need Stapp in it.
@@tristancreed they lack a powerful songwriter in Alter Bridge. Stapp is a genius with a pen.

Awesome. Onward...
I got the opposite vibe.
You are correct and Scott by listening you know that he hasn't forgotten and has always been down to earth..l love love

@Fresh Binaca.. I heard the same thing. Especially when he said, "making poor decisions, and thinking I was taking one for the team when actually etc etc".. Its like hes trying to make it SEEM like hes taking blame, but also sounds like excuses n like hes being really obscure, basically beating around the bush and not really saying much
Very down to earth, you say?
Maybe kinda like he's.... human clay?

I'm glad Scott's looking and feeling healthier. Glad he got help and is back in shape

@MONEY CITY MANIAC I didn't say rock was dead. It's just second place to rap. Just because there are festivals doesn't mean anything.
Decade is pushing it. 5 years maybe
I loved all the music of that time.
Arms wide open...One of the best.Scott has amazing vocals..
Nah his voice sound really sucks , don’t like it at all.

I’m not going to beat him up over it. I’m sure he’s done it more than any of us ever could.
@@1Deep43VA I can agree with that.
Unless you have personally dealt with anxiety and depression it is hard to say what was going on in his head. He seems to have overcome his depression
Well...
My mom's 48 and she got me onto Creed ever since I was a kid. (Only 23 right now) but I can and will always still appreciate their music.
I LOVE Creed, still jam their songs to this day. Definitely helped me through some tough times, thank you Scott and Mark!
I've always loved creed. The song, torn, goes so hard. I also went to church and experienced first hand religious toxicity, and that song got me through that. I use to blame God but then I matured and realized it was the church that was toxic not the word.
Wow me to, my exact same experience
OoOo I love that one.
Yes!
Torn is my favorite of theirs. Every now and then I revisit that song and just binge it.
Amen to that. Pastor here. I've experienced it, and worked through it. Didn't expect the Lord to make me a pastor. Doing my best to help a church grow healthy and do the good service it's supposed to do. May the Lord guide your steps, because the Biblical Jesus has all we need.

I've been newly obsessed with the acoustic version of Creed's My Own Prison floating around here on RUclips and can't get over the utter internal turmoil and pain it conveys--certainly through its lyrics, but even more so through the notes and cords of the music itself. It really evokes deep emotions for me.
I'm just coming to this video after watching that. Listened to it dozens of time in the last year. It's such a deep rendition
my favorite band in the early 2000's. they seemed to talk to me and where I was in life then.

I just seen them and it was amazing. Probably the best concert I’ve seen. They didn’t miss a single note and sang every good song
Holy Christ.
He also had a huge mental breakdown…that was sketchy
This hits a lot of artists and why it's so important to write songs within a range that is comfortable for you to sing. The occasional extension is fine, but you have some artists that write things that are just nuts, and it's easy to do in a studio where tracks are recorded in segments, or in sets of just a couple songs like live on talk shows, but for a two hour show back to back nights? It still happens with artists now. Sam Smith, while a totally different genre, did the same thing and if you notice a lot of his new stuff is a lot more tempered. It makes you look at it in a totally different light.
I remember I was there

Why are you being unnecessarily defensive amidst a bunch of positive comments about the band?
I think some of their stuff is awesome. And honestly, compared to what’s mostly played on the radio and mainstream culture today, I’d KILL for them on the radio!!!
The real issue is Mark wanted to be something greater. His skillset during Creed's run was impressive. Went from a typical guitar player to a great. He needed a better singer than Scott. I was crushed when Creed broke up. But we got Myles. Now Myles will go down as one of the greatest singers ever.
