Yian Kut-Ku...? Vs. Hammer - Monster Hunter Freedom Unite - イャンクック ハンマー ソロ【MHP2G】

I was surprised to see Yian Kut-Ku so high in the Hunter's choice poll. Believe it or not, but Yian Kut-Ku ranked 35th place, higher than some really popular such as Bloodbath Diablos.
It shouldn't be surprising though. Yian Kut-Ku is a very unique monster, one of the first Bird Wyvern species in the series ; monsters that mix avian features with wyvern features. Yian Kut-Ku is one of the most striking ones, with its gigantic beak.
Yian Kut-Ku is also one of the best early game tutorial monsters. While I think Tetsucabra is by far the best early game monster conceived, Yian Kut-Ku also teaches a few basics correctly. It's better in 4th gen, but back in the 1st and 2nd gen Yian Kut-Ku was also really good.

I’ll never get tired of the shenanigans that the devs put in the old games, both this and the miniature Khezu in Freedom Unite are two of my favorite examples. There’s just something hilarious about Monsters being small.

that said i’m really fond of kut ku for teaching me how to play the older games when i went back to try them, and understand the paces of the fights better. it ended up making me better at the 5th gen games in the process!

Nice to see the wind pressure from such a small Large Monster AND how a Hammer user only gets 1 stun in a 2 to 3 minute fight. If this was in Rise, Yian Kut-Ku would've been stunned at least once every minute.

Keep in mind Hammer's hitboxes are also really bad in old gen, as well as Kut-Kut's head being very difficult to hit despite its large beak. The amount of time you'll hit a monster's neck instead of its head (like shown here) in this game drives you nuts.
