The way I screamed to my husband across the kitchen that my two favorite RUclipsrs mentioned each other from Across the country. Worlds collide. Love ya both goof balls.
NO WAY. I really appreciate it, Caroline. I love your work! P.S. I just moved and I'm trying my darnedest to makes vignettes and immersive experiences. Beyond interior design, your videos have helped me feel so much more confident and I really have to thank you for that.
I love how she is not too romantizing everything just like the Internet says, but she tried to figure out what's suitable and "in the middle" for herself. She is so real
I had a brilliant therapist tell me once that anxiety and excitement actually come from the same place in your brain. So if you can say to yourself “I’m excited about this” it flips anxiety into excitement. Also it’s impossible for your brain to feel anxiety and gratitude at the same time. I swear it works. If you are feeling worried just say “I’m so grateful for…”
I could see _nervousness_ and excitement being related. But anxiety is a whole different thing. For me anxiety feels like a burning gnawing in my chest that I'm in the wrong place, doing the wrong thing; that what has happened, what is happening, and what is about to happen is terrible; and that both action and inaction will produce more suffering. I find it hard to frame that feeling as "excitement".
I've been trying for a long time to get my morning routine (and my night routine) sorted out and it almost seems like I'll never get it down. Hearing you say "I'll be grumpy no matter what time I wake up so might as well do it at 6:30am" is probably the most motivational thing I've heard. Maybe it isn't about my routine being perfect or the same every day, maybe it's about just actually starting it.
This was also an important moment for me in the video! I'd rather be a little uncomfortable but still get stuff done - because the feeling of accomplishment later can prevent the sense of doom at night (that probably sounds weird, but idk how else to describe it).
Just add one little thing at a time, slowly. That’s the only way that was sustainable for me, trying to change it all at once never lasted more than a week
Psych stundent here: the ball of anxiety in your chest aka prob the feeling of shame could be a sign that you're not living according to your own values. Basically, it is the part inside of you that wants you to be the kind of person who you wanna be. So it actually comes from a place of self-love. A little perspective shift can go a long way 😊
another psych student here: that can be true, or it can be that this anxiety is coming from a overly demanding/sadist part of us that only interprets productivity in suffering. We need a lot of introspection to know the difference, and then act accordingly.
@@MsInescruz @melisarose3922 it's really interesting to read both of your perspectives in this!!! I will have to do some soul searching about both things to see what sticks. Thanks for sharing!
Thats true: reading you both gave some interesting thoughts. Some years ago, in pandemics, just felt lile both of you descirbed at the same time. I was in a career transition and every day i woke up feeling like "everyone is better than me right now, i gotta do more", but i was already doing aaaa looooot. And together there was: "oh my..., i still cant transition fully so i nee to do a lot of stuff i dont want to because that is something i no longer wish for my future". Soon realized i needed to get up and simply do stuff without questioning (at this point i already have had all the refections needed to decide to transition so it was time to action) obs. Yes, i was and still am with all the support and help and critical analysis of a great therapist, which trully helped a lot
Licensed psych here: that ball of anxiety in your chest can be many/different reasons. The best way to handle it is by seeking professional help for your specific needs. I know she mentioned somewhere in the video she couldn't afford therapy (and yeah it can become expensive). However, I would recommend people to seek out local non profit organizations aimed to provide psychological services at a more affordable cost (sometimes no cost at all) because raw dogging through your mental health doesn't have to be your only choice : )
I introduced a very simple rule that helps me a lot in the morning: no smartphone before I see the sun. So I have to get up and open the curtains and only after I can use my smartphone.
YES! That's the golden rule, because when you start your day with a phone, social media, you prioritise others and not yourself first thing in the morning
Something that really helps me with the morning anxiety spirals -- I keep a notebook and pen by my bed, and if I am just laying there and can't get myself up, I grab the notebook and just write a full page of everything that's in my brain: things I need to do, things I meant to do yesterday, stuff I'm avoiding, what is stressful, what I do and don't like, what I dreamed about, what I hope to get out of the day, what I'm grateful for... and I found that usually by the end of that brain-dump I've drained a lot of negativity and it's easier to focus on the positive things. Plus it gives me a list to reference throughout the day so I don't worry about forgetting anything :)
I really appreciate that you were vulnerable enough to share your anxiety and all these messy worthlessness feelings, I found it so relatable and it's so important to remind ourselves that we are not alone in it. You gained yourself a subscriber!

One of the differences that stuck out to me is having a morning routine and doings by yourself and doing them with others. The comparison with having a volleyball team, studying with friends, etc. Adult life seems way more individualistic and solitary, so I assume it's also why we tend to feel more unmotivated and anxious overall.

I wake up every day between 5am-6am and I have tried SO HARD to workout in the mornings. I reallly really wanted to be a morning workout person. But I just absolutely could not get used to it. I always felt so much worse. So, I changed my workout to 1pm-2pm, afternoons, and OMG so much better for me personally!! Writing this to say you don’t always have to listen to “everyone”. Do what works for you. We all have different needs and lifestyles.
love the realistic motivation! I feel like people treat a morning routine like a dichotomy, where you either get up at the crack of dawn to maximize productivity or you rot in bed for two hours after you wake up. It's nice to see a healthy middle ground
Thank you for being vulnerable. It's easy to think others have this perfect life from what you see on social media and it's nice to see that we are all just humans trying to get through life one day at a time.
I just discovered this channel, and I love her so much. She's so down to earth, funny, and genuine. And her saying "I got three birds stoned" made me laugh so hard.
This was really relatable and motivational for me, Makari! Just wanted to add that when you said you'd accomplished nothing until noon, I felt that, but you had also already been to the gym and showered and I think that should count 🥹
as a person who always tries to make my mornings as productive as I can, I felt this in my soul! It’s the best starting the day at 8 knowing you have already done so much and can end the day and crash into bed after! :)
"if we are working towards something it dosen't matter, it's worth it" this made me cry. I am doing my thesis, and many days i feel like im waisting time and not really doing something with my life. but this is it- i am working towards something and it is worth it. so i will make a routine out of it
my morning routine today was randomly clicking on this video (hilarious btw), getting to the part where you said stare at sun (not directly), and laughing to myself so hard that I accidentally spat my coffee all over my computer, phone, and kitchen table due to the sheer ingenuity of the sarcasm and joy this brought to my life today. 😅👏🏻
Thank you for actually being vulnerable about your anxiety and overwhelm. It's comforting knowing that you're not alone, and maybe there's a way out of it. Loved the video ❤
My trick for cold showers is to start the water warm and every 40 seconds or so make the water colder so I start warm but end cold... necessary for hot US South summers lol, but I actually really like it. Also the pomodoro technique is a life-saver for me as a free-lancer!!! Thank you Makari, you have inspired me to go to the gym and get up early again. Everything I accomplish before noon feels like a bonus to me.
I love when my favorite RUclipsrs love my other favorite RUclipsrs!! You and Caroline both are so genuine and it makes everything more engaging and seem much more achievable :)
"I feel the water everywhere" - had to pause the video to stop laughing. I shut down my phone a week ago after watching your smartphone vid. Knew I needed to do it for years, and been struggling to for weeks, but your cheery content struck just the right balance to give that final push (with some more draconian parental controls in the hands of a trusted individual, because - as said - I know myself). It's made a significant difference (she types on youtube). But jokes aside, it has. Thanks for the content.
“Am I…better than everyone?” Took me out 😂 We love a good morning routine, though. As someone who always wakes up at 7:00, it’s addicting, and I truly hate the days I sleep in until 8:30 or 9:00 now.
I’m so with you! I found it hard to get up early (depression) so I would make a coffee straight away, and now I try to have a coffee an hour after I wake up - and now I’m also addicted to early mornings ☀️ never looking back
I hate the days that I wake up at 6:30 and can't get back to sleep, but don't want to get up because it feels too early, but then I also get annoyed if I wake up at 7:30 because then it's too late :D 7am is that perfect time.
As someone who tends to be a perfectionist (and thus does nothing because it can't be perfect), I really appreciate your method of trying both styles and then figuring out elements from each that worked for you. Also, what a good idea to think back to times you were happiest and most fulfilled and seeing what may have sparked that. Long-term happiness and short term happiness are often opposite goals. Edited to add: It's 5 minutes later and I'm still smiling. I really like your energy and I'd like more of it in my feed. You've gained a new subscriber.
I have watched every single one of your videos and get so excited when I see a new one. I love your honesty and it’s honestly great to see that even people who look perfectly put together struggle too. Its easy to feel like one is struggling because of not working out enough or not drinking enough water or not doing one thing or another, but even when doing all those things, life isn’t going to suddenly be perfect. Thank you for your great content ❤️
The timing for this was really great. I have been avoiding getting up earlier but I also feel anxious about passing time ALL THE TIME. The dread is spreading into all areas of my life and so I waste my time scrolling instead of taking action I know I should take. Thank you for this!!!
I love your authenticity in your videos. Thanks for being vulnerable on the internet. One thing that helped me is giving certain parts of myself a name and treating them like weird relatives. Maybe that's anxious Annie, she just does that in the morning..only thing that calms her is just getting up and doing stuff. It helped me not over analyze my moods and often times it wasn't productive. Cheering you on! You got this.
I think RUclips recommended your videos to me because I just discovered Caroline Winkler and have been binging her content 😂 This is just further proof!
I have to say I have really enjoyed you exploring making a system that works for you. Everyone needs a bit of structure, even when you don't have a traditional 9-5 or school driving you, but it doesn't always look the same for every person and it is neat to see you leading by example. Looking forward to the next!
just no way! i was literally searching up morning routines yesterday, trying to reduce my anxiety. and today was the first day in many when i woke up and felt fine. something worked :) looking forward to watching!
My heart is so happy right now 😍 I’ve really cut back on social media and trying to consume content only that leaves me in a better mood than I was in before. There are two people on RUclips who can do that. My long time favorite, Caroline and you, Makari. Thanks to both of you. You make my days better 🥰
Ma'am you are a god send. Among the influx of influencers preaching high productivity- thank you- just thank you- for being normal, and silly and goofy
And YOU are my new fav person on the Internet. I love how you challenge yourself this way. I love your appartment as well. And I love it because it is a simple appartment. Nothing too fancy. And it looks like you actually live in it, with your boyfriend. 😂 It's so much more relatable. Love your relationship with your dad, it is so precious ❤
You're just so real and not like so many of the other youtubers! Thanks for trying these methods and showing us, and finding a happy medium! This was actually motivating!
Your video just popped up on my youtube and I said "let's watch it", girl i've only known you for 13 minutes and I had so much fun watching you, I like your energy. Yeah, you also encouraged me to try to create my own morning routine and to find what fits me better, thanks! You're my new youtube best friend hehe 🫶🏼
Ah yes. A morning routine. That thing I had before I had kids. Really enjoyed your video. Your happy energy and self-deprecation is fun. Thank you for making videos!
I love your videos! I would love a video about your usual workout routine, I love when people who are not fitness trainers or strictly fitness influencers show their workouts, it's super motivational :)
I legitimately laughed out loud multiple times during this video! First off, you are an inspiration and have honestly become my go to RUclipsr when I'm feeling anxious/overwhelmed, something about your videos just calms me right down and makes it so much more achievable to go do the things I actually want to do. Second of all, the shots of morning you in the blue hoodie are absolute comedy gold and the ONLY true representation of what it actually feels like to have to wake up! The bit at 10:05 with the "eh" and the slow shuffling?! What a legend!! 😂
Hi Makari! this is my first time watching your video, and wow I LOVE and appreciate how authentic, honest and vulnerable you are and doing so in a positive, funny way! Comparing two different morning routines is such a cool idea
Feasible routine tysm. Besides personally I recommend expanding the duration of your pomodoros. In my experience it's difficult to have the courage to rocus once more after the 5-min-break. Instead try working for 75-90 mins and 15-25 mins breaks. I guarantee that with longer pomodoros time flows smoothly and you'll be able to stay focused for more!
I can relate to that morning anxiety feel!! I think I might need to incorporate “text breaks” throughout the day. I love that you used others’ routines as inspo to make a morning routine work for YOU- it is YOUR day! Keep shining :)
Ive been binge-watching you and Caroline Winkler lately - love to see these two worlds collide! If you haven't already done a nighttime routine vid, I'd love to see that too. Awesome as usual!! 🥰
You and Caroline are both my favorite lifestyle people on this platform because you both are so real, silly, and fun. And you always have good takes on things while still being honest and vulnerable. Adore you both, I’m so happy she saw this video. Nearly spat my food out at the edit on her face 😂 never change haha
With your showers I would suggest to start hot and then slowly turn to cool in increments! I actually love doing this, it leaves me feeling so refreshed and awake at the end of the shower and that way you could get all your cleaning things done in warm/hot water! I just found your channel and I really have been enjoying all of your videos - the relationship you have with your dad is so freaking sweet!
I've started something similar that you do in this video. I get up at 5am, chug a glass of water, go to the gym at 6am and after that a cold shower (that I've been doing for 2 years now and I feel awesome since). After all of those I'm there at 7.30-8am starting to work, doing laundry and stuff you have to :D Anyway, I love your energy. Found you by the 30k steps a day video and since then I can't wait for you to upload another video. Keep up the work XO
I love that you found a routine that works for you! I think that I need to incorporate what you have done as mine, because I found we have similar styles of thinking and working! Hope you had a wonderful week and your weekend is full of laughter ❤xx
@@luisnabaisI do the same thing and I literally just boil water like I’m about to make tea and then add just enough cold water until its lightly steaming but not too hot to drink. It makes the stomach feel great and kind of relaxes your insides, not sure how to explain it.
I appreciate you sharing your anxiety and self-doubt. It's very relatable! Right now, I'm working East Coast hours, so my morning routine is rolling out of bed at 6:45 and working in my pajamas until I'm awake enough to get ready for the day! I actually prefer it to doing my morning routine first thing: I do mindless tasks first thing and then do some yoga and get ready mid-morning. I enjoy it more than trying to do yoga before I'm fully conscious. For the two years before this, I had to start working at 5:30am, so there was no way I was going to get up a minute earlier than I had to.
Makari! O was positively surprised when I saw this video was sponsored - first time I bumped into your channel you had around 10k subscribers - then I looked at it and you’re already with 50k???? That’s amazing! I love your content and I’m so glad your RUclipsr career is taking off. Congrats!!!!
Hey Makari, I just discovered your channel & just wanted to take a moment to say thank you! I really appreciate your content & I am so happy you are sharing your life with the world. You have a really incredible energy & I love how real you are about what is going on mentally. Anyways, thank you & I hope you are having a lovely day.
I found your channel through your stretching video and have now watched all your videos! I love your personality, it’s what makes your videos so enjoyable ❤
Great video as always Makari! Thank you for being so open and honest with us about your struggles. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one who struggles with anxiety, especially in the morning when it comes to facing the day.
I just resently stumbled across your channel and ... I LOVE IT! You make me laugh so hard and its really great listening to your positive and joyful voice! Keep the work :)!! You are inspiring and motivating thousands of people out there!!
I never realized many people felt the anxiety spiral. I’m only starting an earlier routine (both morning & night) and it is frustrating when you do 3 days wrong and 2 right, but it’s just important to get back on track and strive for the best! Watching this is so helpful!
Ive seen many a morning routine video but this is one had me laughing out loud in all the right ways! I feel you on the always grumpy no matter what in the morning! Thanks for an amazing video and also a great perspective at the end!
I don't necessarily agree with your approach of doing so much that you don't have time to think and feel anxious, I feel like it's a bit misguided. I don't know the answer too, of course. what I like to do that works for me is waking up and taking my time to do things that bring me joy: I wake up at 7, feed the cats, 15 mins of stretch (which I incorporated from your previous video!!), ablutions, then I take like 30 minutes preparing and eating my breakfast - just eggs and a cup of coffee with milk, but I don't do it in a hurry, I enjoy every minute of the preparation. then I go to the couch and just hang out watching something on my phone/tablet for 40 minutes before starting to work. that way I don't feel like the purpose of my life is to work, which is a source of anxiety and depression for me. I also like to take an hour before lunch to workout, which also breaks my "work time" into a self care time. my goal is to have life and enjoy things outside of work. I'm privileged enough to work from home so that's why this works for me. I just wanted to share my perspective on this, sorry for the long text.
Yeah, "just doing things" is a fine line to walk. It's suoer helpful to run on autopilot to get out of a rut or minimize overthinking/worrying but it can also destroy mindfulness and get you out of touch with your emotions. As always, balance is key :)
Your funny too watch and your content is so humorous! Dont dwell on the negative and push through on the tasks in front of you makes for a positive and rewarding day! Thxs for your insight and humor!
Thank you for making this video so real and down to Earth. It sounds like I have some changing to do in my morning routine, but it doesn't seem so bad once you do what you got to do! Thank you again and happy living! :)
It's very comforting to know that I'm not the only one who wakes up immediately anxious. I think mine is from my old job where I would get up at 6 in the morning so when I'm up at that time, it reminds me of that awful job. But the morning jitters/anxiety are awful
Such a departure from what I normally watched and I love it. A few times over the past few weeks I've had to get up early to travel and despite the initial suck I always feel better than usual in the end. Instead of my usual 9.30-11 window. Might actually set a non-negotiable alarm for 6.30 now. Thanks.
Thank you for this video Makari! I appreciate your honesty about your experience - it definitely helped me feel more validated in how I feel in the mornings and I’m sure many others do too! I loved the piece about you being the happiest at times in your life when you were getting out there, working, training, etc. I definitely find myself looking back at the busy times too with some nostalgia - although when I was in the moment I’m sure I was also very tired. This video gave me the inspo to make sure I’m constantly going out there and doing the things that seem hard and showing up because it always feels so good after. Keep being authentic, honest, and sharing your truth and experiences! Great work :)
Starting off the shower cold and switching to a normal temperature is such a great idea (definitely going to steal that for my routine!). It's really the best of both worlds without hating life with a whole cold shower! 😄

That shower could be my 25 min. Must get done/busy task the. 5 minutes to scroll my phone 😅 before starting a new must-do. I loved this video
love the realistic motivation! I feel like people treat a morning routine like a dichotomy, where you either get up at the crack of dawn to maximize productivity or you rot in bed for two hours after you wake up. It's nice to see a healthy middle ground
The video , The comments and The people are so wholesome ❤🥹🥹
Thank you for being vulnerable. It's easy to think others have this perfect life from what you see on social media and it's nice to see that we are all just humans trying to get through life one day at a time.
Loved this, it’s so relatable in all the little things “eggs and plums” - all I have, “don’t mind the mismatched pillows” - haven’t done laundry
thanks for noticing the small details - I appreciate you
I just discovered this channel, and I love her so much. She's so down to earth, funny, and genuine. And her saying "I got three birds stoned" made me laugh so hard.
This is the kind of content that makes me not quit social media!! This is the best channel I’ve subscribed to in a long time
This was really relatable and motivational for me, Makari!
This Caroline and Makari collision made me happier than any other good thing that has happened to me this week.
I need to get out more.
"Sometimes, we just feel crappy sometimes," is my new motto thank you
"Im grumpy no matter what"
Real shit.
We are actually very similar, I also wake up at 9am feeling behind and unaccomplished, only difference is you have a loving dad
Me wanting to also wake up early in the morning and just sit outside but then remembering I live in Scandinavia and we don’t get sun until like 9 rn
“Am I…better than everyone?” Took me out 😂
We love a good morning routine, though. As someone who always wakes up at 7:00, it’s addicting, and I truly hate the days I sleep in until 8:30 or 9:00 now.
😆 thanks Ethan! So cool knowing an actor in New York likes my stuff?!
And I can't wait to get to that point of "early morning addiction"!
You’re my new new fav, but Caroline Winkler has been in my subscriptions for a bit. You both are my kind of funny. Appreciate you girl!
Can't tell you how much I loved that you shared your anxious morning, I relate soooo much.
You've really quickly become one of my favorite channels, please keep it up!
Thanks Matt! I appreciate it :)
2:03 No lie I got a cold shiver when the cold water hit your head. And I am sitting in a south facing living room on a sunny Irish evening (a rarity)
just no way! i was literally searching up morning routines yesterday, trying to reduce my anxiety.
and today was the first day in many when i woke up and felt fine. something worked :)
looking forward to watching!
I hope you enjoyed!!
@@makariespe I def did! :) thank you for this mix of positivity and vulnerability!
Among the influx of influencers preaching high productivity- thank you- just thank you- for being normal, and silly and goofy
love your channel, i usually dont watch every videos on one channel, but with yours, i feel like i want to watch them all!
Just found your channel, you’re hilarious, this is so much more enjoyable than 90% of other channels similar to this, thank you for everything
😂It will come back. Keep at it!😊
I love your videos!
Hey thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
That algorithm is top notch. How did it know I've been struggling with anxious morning nonsense. Amazing. Very helpful. ❤
It's comforting knowing other people feel unproductive when they sleep in
It's comforting knowing other people sleep in
I've started something similar that you do in this video.
I get up at 5am, chug a glass of water, go to the gym at 6am and after that a cold shower (that I've been doing for 2 years now and I feel awesome since). After all of those I'm there at 7.30-8am starting to work, doing laundry and stuff you have to :D
Anyway, I love your energy.
Thanks Danielle! :) I hope you have a great weekend tooo :) ❤
thank you for being so authentic, your videos really are comforting 🫶🏻
Hot water makes perfect sense! I love tea and hot water is just unflavored tea so that checks.
100%! 😆 It's the best thing for an upset stomach too
@@makariespehot like tea, or just a bit warmer than natural temperature?
Congrats!!!!
you are my new favorite person in the internet!
Hey Makari,
I just discovered your channel & just wanted to take a moment to say thank you!
I really appreciate your content & I am so happy you are sharing your life with the world.
You have a really incredible energy & I love how real you are about what is going on mentally.
Anyways, thank you & I hope you are having a lovely day.
I love how real you are - you're awesome. 🤣❤
I really enjoy your videos, you're realistic and not fake at all. I love it and you should keep doing it! Hugs from the Netherlands 💖
I found your channel through your stretching video and have now watched all your videos! I love your personality, it’s what makes your videos so enjoyable ❤
Yay, Makari is back with a video. I so agree that the pomodoro technique is super powerful to get things done, it's like magic lol
Finally, an honest morning routine 😂 this was so validating ❤️
Great video as always Makari! Thank you for being so open and honest with us about your struggles. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one who struggles with anxiety, especially in the morning when it comes to facing the day.
I'm a warm/hot water drinker!!! Everyone in my life hates watching me drink hot water bit it's excellent
my people!!!!
Ya I don't know why people hate us so much 😂
I just resently stumbled across your channel and ...
Okay, as of rn, ur my new fav RUclipsr, I love ur smile, u seem so fun and happy and adorable!!
i love your videos. I have always struggled with morning anxiety and it's so nice to see someone work through the same issues.
Loving these wellness focused videos!!
You. Are. Awesome. So happy my algorithm picked you! Enjoyed every minute, stay awesommmmeeeee!!
She has such a beautiful vibe 😊
I agree, don’t give yourself time to think!
It's very comforting to know that I'm not the only one who wakes up immediately anxious. I think mine is from my old job where I would get up at 6 in the morning so when I'm up at that time, it reminds me of that awful job. But the morning jitters/anxiety are awful
Not sure why, but channel is by far my favourite. You are so normal it's amazing. Thats a compliment btw 😁
haha thank you 😆
Bedtime routine next please! 💖 I’m much worse at having a good nighttime routine
Such a departure from what I normally watched and I love it.
A few times over the past few weeks I've had to get up early to travel and despite the initial suck I always feel better than usual in the end. Instead of my usual 9.30-11 window. Might actually set a non-negotiable alarm for 6.30 now.
Thanks.
Somehow, it's yet another video that I didn't know I needed, but needed so badly. Thank you (again)!
I love your videos. So funny, and inspiring! They motivate me, and I need all the help I can get. 🙌🏼
Starting off the shower cold and switching to a normal temperature is such a great idea (definitely going to steal that for my routine!). It's really the best of both worlds without hating life with a whole cold shower! 😄
