Kate is the most underrated legend in America. In Europe, she's a queen.
@EverendeverGroup Pretty popular in Australia back then too.
13 when she wrote it, 16 when she recorded it. What a spectacular talent
She wrote this aged 13. Incredible!
Nobody cares. Everyone Knows this . This idiot thinks its a love song. The song is about God. And I'm a non believer.I am bored.
Stan its astonishing to think she wrote this when she was just 12 years old,and won an Ivor novello award, for her writing of this song,a really important UK,recognition. Isn't she fabulous 😊
Actually, 13 years.
Correct@@leslieturner8276
@@leslieturner8276I was going to say 13 as well.
The song (and Kate) is as mesmerizing today as it was back in 1978. And even after all this time I'm still baffled she wrote this song at 13 years old.
Not just her amazing vocals and lyrics - Kate said that when she wrote the song she wasn’t proficient enough on the piano to play the amazing runs up and down the keyboard - and had to practice for ages to be able the music she’d written. She nailed it
Unique- not just a singer, an artist - cannot love this more! 😍 Thank you, sir!
Love this one
From a guy old enough to be a massive fan of Kate's since day one my personal all time favourite video of hers is Love and Anger. It doesn't get reviewed often. Pink Floyd's David Gilmour is featured on guitar. It's Kate at her mischievious best!
My favourite song of hers. Her whole first album is amazing.
This was Kate’s second single release and made for quite a contrast to the ‘Wuthering Heights’ debut single. It’s actually quite a rarity in Kate’s early music catalogue in that she sings this song fairly straight without the girlish head voice that dominates much of her first two albums. The reason for this is that it was recorded when she was 16, before she started experimenting with her voice in the run up to recording her first album at age 19. It was one of three songs that Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour (who discovered her) paid for her to have professionally recorded and produced to serve as a demo tape for record companies. It was this recording from that demo tape, along with ‘Saxophone Song’, that made it onto Kate’s first album released at age 19 in 1978. So with this video you are seeing Kate at 19 but hearing her at 16.
Love this song she’s brilliant. Love her music
This has been my favorite song of Kate Bush since she performed this song on SNL in the seventies!
Hi and thanks for another well considered reaction video. Yes, this song really is something else - written when she was 13 and recorded when she was 16. This was the song that Dusty Springfield said had left her staggered at Kate Bush's talent and when Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page called her a genius this was the song he picked out as the one that gave very early proof in her career of that genius.
As someone who has been a KB fan from the very beginning I don't think it matters how or when someone gets acquainted with her music and in your particular case I actually envy you - because I can never again listen to these songs for the first time. Thanks again for this really enjoyable video reaction.
This song was one of three that David Gilmour paid to be recorded professionally at a studio with session musicians, when she was aged just 16 years old. Of the three songs, this (which was her 2nd UK single reaching number 6 in the charts) and "The Saxophone Song" ended up on her debut albuum "The Kick Inside."
When Gilmour presented the recordings to EMI, he felt that this song was the one that convinced the record company to sign her up.
It's crazy that Kate wrote this song when she was just 13 years old, and this vocal performance was from her when she was only 16 years old.
BTW, the song received the Ivor Novello Award for "Outstanding British Lyric" in 1979.
That’s the best summary here. Thanks ❤
@@mattleppard1964 You're welcome! 👍
I was 18 the first time I heard The Kick Inside and this was immediately my favorite song on the album and it has remained my favorite to this day.
This was about an adult who is still very much of a child and could still take a delight in the innocence of things.
no its not
@@matt-uc1ri It is actually. Kate said so in an interview. She said many grown men can be little boys at heart.

It's just amazing she wrote and scored this at such a young age. She really was a child prodigy.
Yes, she started writing songs when she was aged 12, adding more complex lyrics from 13 onwards, teaching herself to play the piano, and by her late teens had written over 200 songs.
I think she was 14 or so when Dave Gilmour (of Pink Floyd) heard this song she had written years earlier (and a few other songs). He inisted his record company EMI sign her asap. EMI were reluctant to release this as the follow-up to 'Wuthering Heights' but Kate insisted and was proved correct when it reached the top ten.
Beautiful voice and song 💞
I can tell you’ve been bitten by the Bush bug. Been enjoying your reactions so much! I’d recommend Suspended in Gaffa or The wedding list from the Christmas special ❤
I'll check it out!
Performed by Kate 20 or so. Written by Catherine Bush, aged 13.
At Christmas time you have to react to “December will be magic again”. I’m sure she performed it live on a tv special somewhere.
You should try some videos of her 1979 concert tour performances. The picture quality is not the best but is still good enough to be enjoyable. Try these live performances of songs from her first two albums:

I got ABBA and Kate Bush in the same week.😍
Legend
If you haven't done it already, you need to do Experiment IV.... there are a lot of British stars in that video.... another slightly shocking but brilliant one is "Breathing"
