  • 1 SAMUEL 15 3! Why God Said Slay the Amalekites... "Slay Man & Woman, Infant & Suckling"
In 1 Samuel 15 3 does God condone "Genocide" in the Bible? We look at God saying to the Israelites to kill all women, infant and suckling children in 1 Samuel 15.
What is Genocide and is genocide ever lawful? Can God choose who lives and who dies? We take a look at what some categorise as Genocide in the Bible in this video looking at complete context of a major event Bible skeptics like to hone in on. This is taken from 1 Samuel 15:2-3 where God tells the king to utterly wipe out all the Amalakites and spare not even the children.
Key Bible text - 1 Samuel 15:2-3 "2 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I remember [that] which Amalek did to Israel, how he laid [wait] for him in the way, when he came up from Egypt. 3 Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass."
This is a 1 Samuel 15 3 explanation and discusses in minor details why God ordered the death of women and children in the Bible.

Hi, thank you so much for this video. But I still don’t understand why God would have to “stoop to their level” if you will? Like why order the killing of children? That still just doesn’t seem like a loving God would do something like this. It’s passages like these that really make me question my faith at times. Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated. 🙏

In Thy Word thank you very much for your response! Spare the children? I don’t know? It just seems to be such a barbaric response? Like we wouldn’t want our leaders to do that today in another country? What if one of our leaders said he or she was going to go in and slaughter an entire group of people (including babies) in response to something. People would be outraged I think?
And it seems that Jesus in the New Covenant teaches something totally difficult. It is hard for me to reconcile the two covenants. Why are the responses so different? I just can’t understand why Jesus said “love thy enemies” but God in the Old Testament said to slaughter them (in this case).
Thank you again so much for any insight you can provide on this. And I mean no disrespect to God by these questions. I am just really grappling with this. Thank you!

The Amalekites were chronic enemies of God and his chosen people, ancient Israel. The way God dealt with them provides a pattern for the way He will deal with his enemies today!
Because of their hardened and unreasonable hostility towards God’s people and because they “did not fear God,” the Amalekites came under a permanent ban. Since they worked in opposition to the purposes of the Universal Sovereign, Jehovah God, he decreed their utter extermination. Nothing was to be spared, man or beast, no spoil was to be taken. Everything devoted to destruction!!

In a famous decree, Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, the first Caliph, told his military commander: “Stop, O people, that I may give you ten rules for guidance on the battlefield. Do not commit treachery or deviate from the right path. You must not mutilate dead bodies; do not kill a woman, a child, or an aged man; do not cut down fruitful trees; do not destroy inhabited areas; do not slaughter any of the enemies’ sheep, cow or camel except for food; do not burn date palms, nor inundate them; do not embezzle (e.g. no misappropriation of booty or spoils of war) nor be guilty of cowardliness…You are likely to pass by people who have devoted their lives to monastic services; leave them alone."

One day I had faith in "God".
But for real, do you think that even with this context it is justify to kill children, women, etc.
According to your morality, do you think it is good to take revenge by murdering men, women and children? Are they responsible for the orders of their king?

I was not saying that but anyway men can't be responsible for every bad actions committed by others as much as women or children.
Finally the conclusion is the same. The context does not make this passage from the Bible more comprehensive especially with our modern morality.
      God contradicts himself afterwards.
So he is not perfect. If he is not perfect it is because he is not God, he is therefore a creation of man.
I only wish the happiness of my neighbor including yours and I don't need God for that.

@@hygienicdonut2344 I had to rewatch the video just to verify your assumption to the action of the man in the video. To me, he's not embarrassed speaking about it. He was very cautious not to say any less or more of what was said and to stay on topic which is the righteousness of God. If you think he's embarrassed because that's the way he speaks, then give your reasoning as to why you arrive at that conclusion. Do you have the same accent as him? Do you have the same body gestures when speaking? Do you also double-check things the way he did it? If you are telling things dismissively then that's not even a valid point of argument.
I agree. The sin of the father is not the sin of the son. If you think there is a contradiction, it's perfectly understandable to know why. Have you heard about the saying "an eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth, etc?" God commanded to give the same treatment Amalekites did to the feeble jews - if you proceeded to watch the entire video, you'll know what I'm talking about. Basically, the Amalekites have fallen so low in sin to an extent where God had enough of it. Now the question I think you should be asking is why God did not execute the destruction of Amalekites himself as it shouldn't be any problem at all for a God who is Almighty, right? In Genesis, we have read the destruction of Sodom and Gomorah through hellfire directly sent by God from heaven so why couldn't He just do the same? Instead, HE COMMANDED the people to do the exact same thing to the Amalekites rather than sending another hellfire which would do the job better in my personal opinion. Did this line of questioning ever cross your mind? Probably not but keep reading... God as the epitome of righteousness had to serve the best justice He could to Amalekites which is getting the same exact treatment they did to others - making their women childless so God ENABLED a group of men to deliver justice in wiping out the Amalekites.
I also only wish enlightenment for my neighbor so they wouldn't be foolish to assume things in their own bias, jump to conclusions, and approach someone in hopes of educating them into something they don't even understand. You need Jesus Christ. All praise and glory to him our Lord and Savior.

In Surah 9:5 the verse before it says “As for the polytheists who have honoured every term of their treaty with you and have not supported an enemy against you, honour your treaty with them until the end of its term. Surely Allah loves those who are mindful ˹of Him˺.”
Plus… Now that I’ve explained that these were out of context, explain in the Bible 1 Samuel 15:3 how it says “Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.” It literally says to kill women and children…

I'm still struggling with this :( Just because one hurts another does not make it right to hurt them back, Jesus taught this.
Since having a child of my own I see how God sees us, his blessed most loved, pure and perfect children. This is just what the world needs, what Jesus was and what Eden was. Surely this should and can be nurtured. Yes, sin will creep in, but at least that's of man and not directly from God.
Here's the big issue, sin driven events have been defeated by Jesus and we'll eventually all witness this but God driven events means we are always going to be subject to God's wrath. We are not called to fear God in the literal sense but to be in awe of him. How, when he instructs such acts? It happened in Esther as well, where is the character of Jesus in all this?
Have we misunderstood our text or did Samuel get the message wrong..?
I pray this makes sense oneday. In the meantime I lean on the life that Jesus lived and left for us to preach. 🙏

In my tiny human mind my answer would be to heal. God can heal, Jesus did heal. Worst case, man should be subject to what our sinful human nature will bring which is death (unless born again), but surely not by order of destruction.
For all those who are not Christians and read these scriptures, imagine what they'll make of this. Look how Stephen Fry reacted when asked about his feelings towards God and that wasn't even about destructive instructions.

Also Amalek was born from Timnah who was the concubine of Eliphaz Esau's son. Also Timnah was a Philistine. And we know that from that land the giants (Fallen angels) were roaming. Therefore it could be also possible that this race was a race of half-casts which were evil to the core. That is why God would have ordered such a drastic command because this would be a huge hinderance to the coming of the messiah (Jesus). Another interpretation could be also a hyperbolic one were certain verses are strengthened but perhaps misunderstood. For example ''The La Lakers were totally destroyed by the Chicago Bulls''. This does not mean that they were all killed, but that they were totally defeated. But either way, God has all the right to exercise His sovereign will on His creation. He makes life, and He can also take it. God bless you in Jesus name.

What you need to do is ask yourself if your neighbor next to you , let's say they are family of 6 with infants in the home, and you were told to take a sword and enter their home and do harm to everyone because the crimes of their parents, would you commit such an act...truly ask yourself that? God has the power to take people in their sleep , why choose for an infant to experience extreme violence and pain.

If man's perception of what God should be like differs from the God of the bible, why do you think that the God of the bible was created by man? Not that I necessarily agree with this videos justification of this particular text, but I do think that is something that no one really explains. We always have these ideas about what God should be like, how he should act, and what he shouldn't do, but really that would only apply to a God that man actually created. If it's a God that man didn't create, he would be just as he was, and probably not confined by man's expectations of him. Whether man liked it or not.

There must be some objective proof of this, otherwise it's all circular reasoning. And so far, the many contradictions in Yahweh's character , his tendancy towards war and vengeance in the Old Testament (which is completely consistant with other ancient Near East cultures btw), the evolution of the concepts of Hell and Satan as the Bible progresses (these concepts didn't even exist in early Judaism), among other things, suggests to me that it's far more likely that Yahweh was conjured up in the minds of men. But if there is evidence to the contrary, I'm open to it. Note that my argument is not that there is no God -- I think it's possible. My argument is that it's not Yahweh.

Genocide is not justified even if the people (including innocent children and infants) being slaughtered are 'really bad', perform human sacrifices, etc. There is no justification for the genocide in 1 Samuel. This incident, being one of many biblical atrocities, can however be a catalyst for examination on the part of believing Christians. Perhaps it would be of value to begin such an examination by asking oneself, "Which is more likely? That a record of an ancient warmongering tribe of desert dwellers survived to today, and thus includes barbaric and deeply repulsive actions and beliefs, or that a morally perfect God ordered this same tribe of desert dwellers to commit genocide, infanticide, and a whole host of other atrocities for some twisted reason or other?" I sincerely hope that any objective examination of biblical validity beginning with that question results in a thorough disillusion with the bible's legitimacy.

@Garth Andrews As I told In Thy Word, this is an irrelevant ad hominum attack. You may think my worldview is inconsistent, or that I myself have a ridiculous set of ethics, but that in no way lessens your intellectual burden to justify the atrocities within the bible. If you claim that the god of the bible is moral, but then suggest that that same god can command genocide and infanticide one day only to supposedly condemn it the next, invalidates your claim. And again, my original comment was intended to respond to In Thy Word's supposed justification of this genocide. Neither he nor you have provided any semblance of a defence for his justification, instead you have turned to irrelvant ad hominum attacks. This is not a genuine or productive method of discourse, and it certainly fails to address anything I've actually said.

If God were all-loving then he would find the idea of killing his children (humans) totally abhorrent. Fortunately, being all-powerful he would be able to achieve his aims without killing anyone.
So have have a triangle of paradox - the 3 points of which are this alleged deity’s love, his omnipotence and his record of murdering those who displease him (we’ll overlook the fact that those he kills, are supposed to be his ‘children’ and the fact that he created them and their motivations).
These 3 three attributes are in conflict and you can only have 2 of them. You can be all loving and all powerful and not have kill people; you can be all-loving and kill people/let them die because you lack the power to prevent this or you can be all powerful and murder people because you don’t love them. (In answer to the question, being all-loving is in conflict with murdering your child, all-powerful or not).
Yes, you can argue that these three are human attributes and that your deity is not human so doesn’t have to abide by them, so why give it human characteristics? If you are going to describe your god as all-loving, you can’t then say it doesn’t have to behave as though it is.

@@InThyWord does bibble even explain the diseases, etc? the problem by the animal is just your assumption.
slay kids? even baby? what is god trying to teach us here?? compassion??

If you do research you will find that is true. Apart from being an inhuman act to have intercourse with an animal, the ramifications are severe on your body.
If you read all my replies, in the comments, I believe I provide a valid explanation as to why this was justified and a gracious act on God’s part.

@@InThyWordi want words from bible. does the bibble tell that those amalekites have disease or even have intercourse with animal?

Not only Amalekites but all the nations that God drove out of the lands. It says in Leviticus, don’t do all these things the nations that are being driven out do (sleeping with animals was one of them.)
The Amalekites were still killing babies 400 years after killing Israelites weakest and most in need people.

Hey brother , I still have alot of questions ,
first why did God didnt kill the amalekites that actually kill the hindmost . Because of my understanding he kills a complete different generation to punish the previous amalekites actions .
    &
second question how does that justify that God is forgiving and loving .
From my understanding. I use Isaac 9:6 to enforce the fact that the prince of peace didnt arrive Yet . But I still think its not enough .

The problem is the killing hadn't stopped. Read in 1 Sam 15 again: And Samuel said, “As your sword has made women childless..." (v. 33)

ah ok perfect so basically an eye for an eye is your justification for the death of innocent infants except in matthew 5:38 Jesus teaches THE EXACT OPPOSITE basically saying if a person slaps you on your right cheek, turn to them the other cheek as well. seems a bit contradictory

    • @NottTaco
      @NottTaco 5 месяцев назад

No thats fulfilling the eye for an eye. Gods grace increased the more we sinned, and it’s not a contradiction but a fulfilment into turn your left cheek. Since the wages of sin are no longer death.
Also the babies were not innocent, they were going to grow up evil, as they were in an evil environment and would try destroy the Israelites. God didn’t want this to happen; and it says in the Bible babies go to heaven since they haven’t understood the conscious of evil.

Ya know, I noticed a lot of the word "innocent" getting thrown around here. How could an all-loving God kill someone who is innocent? The answer is simple. Compared to God, there is no such thing as innocent.
As human beings, the instant we draw our first breath, we are dead in sin thanks to the machinations of the devil with Adam and Eve.
Back in the Old Testament, no one, and I mean no one, could stand before God and when talking about revenge, it is written the God said "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay."
Now you may wonder "So what, God sends babies and children to hell?" Not according to Matthew 18:10
“See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven.“ and Matthew 19:14 "But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven."
I've mentioned this before in another video, but the reason we have such a sensitive view on death is because we place a inordinate amount of attention on our own mortality and as such we develop nihilistic and hedonistic tendencies. So this hatred and fear of death is rather silly because sooner or later our physical bodies will die.
This place is but second and those who are of the world think of this place as everything and death is the end all be all. But that isn't the case, Hell is the true death. Our time on earth is a blinking of the eye, a snapping of the fingers, so temporary and fleeting it's over before you can breathe.
That is why a Savior had to come down, because without Jesus, we are doomed. End of line. So a new covenant was made and the old covenant replaced. A new commandment was made: Believe in the One who was sent, Jesus Christ, that He is the Son of God who died for our son's and rose on the third day, Love the Lord your God, and to Love one another. Simple as that. Not so difficult. But life can be complicated and hearts can be hardened, that is why staying in faith is so important.
I hope this clears up any confusion. If not and my words angered you, I am sorry but peace be with you and God be with you all!

How do you know that those tribe leaders made it all up and said God told them to maim, and chop up children and babies? Many even today , religious leaders say that God tells them to kill or cheat people out of their lifes savings? Back in those days, leaders were high in position and people would beleive anything they said and go and kill. Look what happened in the 1600s in Europe when Christians burned many people and tortured them all in the name of God
