    Ummm, you should have stayed away from this topic cuz ur defense in summary is that God:
    1. Delays punishment for 400 years (Grace) not actually punishing the parties that took then actions but simultaneously punishing people that had nothing to do with those actions?
    2. God was merely exaggerating.
    Ummm, not very convincing even to many Christians.

    It's not even the only place in the OT where God commands his people to exterminate entire cities, murdering anything that breathes, women and children included.
    Making this scene even worse is that Saul spared the life of the king... and God becomes enraged by this. Saul is the bad guy for showing mercy. And Samuel, who enjoys God's favor, hacks the king to pieces right after the king is smiling and expressing his hope that they've all put death behind him.
    Basically, the king is saying "Thank you for your mercy, Saul," while Samuel says "God wants you murdered and I must obey," before chopping him to bits.
    Some God of love.

      Saul was not even a true prophet... he was just the first king of Israel, anointed by the prophet Samuel.
      In the narrative of 1 Samuel 15:3, the text presents the command to Saul quite directly, stating that God instructed him to utterly destroy the Amalekites and everything associated with them.
      Throughout the biblical narratives, characters sometimes misinterpret divine instructions or act against God's command. Saul himself had a history of making questionable decisions and disobeying God's commands.
      It's also worth noting that the broader context of Saul's character and actions is important for understanding his motivations and actions. Saul's character was complex, and he struggled with issues such as pride, insecurity, and impulsive behavior. This might have influenced how he carried out divine instructions.

    the Creator is pointing to his dual nature of kindness and severity.....kindness when we obey his voice by faith and severe in unrepentantness when we idolitize the created things more than his Majesty ultimately being disobedient to the voice from heaven:
    hebrews 10:29 Just think how much worse the punishment will be for those who have trampled on the Son of God, and have treated the blood of the covenant, which made us holy, as if it were common and unholy, and have insulted and disdained the Holy Spirit who brings God’s mercy to us.
    hebrews 12:25 Be careful that you do not refuse to listen to the One who is speaking. For if the people of Israel did not escape when they refused to listen to Moses, the earthly messenger, we will certainly not escape if we reject the One who speaks to us from heaven!
    romans 2:4 Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin? 5 But because you are stubborn and refuse to turn from your sin, you are storing up terrible punishment for yourself. For a day of anger is coming, when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed. 6 He will judge everyone according to what they have done. 7 He will give eternal life to those who keep on doing good, seeking after the glory and honor and immortality that God offers. 8 But he will pour out his anger and wrath on those who live for themselves, who refuse to obey the truth and instead live lives of wickedness. 9 There will be trouble and calamity for everyone who keeps on doing what is evil-for the Jew first and also for the Gentile.[a] 10 But there will be glory and honor and peace from God for all who do good-for the Jew first and also for the Gentile. 11 For God does not show favoritism.
    romans 11:22 Notice how God is both kind and severe. He is severe toward those who disobeyed, but kind to you if you continue to trust in his kindness. But if you stop trusting, you also will be cut off.

      @@Justice111991. In the account found in 1 Samuel 28, Saul faces a critical situation as the Philistine army gathers for battle against Israel. Saul is filled with fear and desperation because God is no longer answering him, either through dreams or prophets. In his distress, he turns to alternative sources for guidance, specifically seeking out a medium, often referred to as the Witch of Endor.
      The use of mediums or those who consult with the dead was strictly forbidden by the Mosaic Law in the Old Testament (see, for example, Leviticus 19:31 and 20:6). Saul, who was once chosen and anointed by God to be the king of Israel, now finds himself in a dire situation where he goes against God's commands.
      Saul disguises himself and goes to the medium, asking her to summon the spirit of the deceased prophet Samuel. The medium is initially hesitant but agrees to the request. To Saul's shock, the spirit of Samuel actually appears, and he delivers a message of doom and judgment. Samuel informs Saul that because of his disobedience and rejection of God's commands, the Lord has turned away from him. He predicts the imminent defeat of Israel in the upcoming battle with the Philistines and foretells Saul's death.
      This event highlights Saul's departure from relying on God for guidance. Instead of seeking God's counsel through prayer and repentance, Saul turns to forbidden practices out of desperation. The consequence of consulting the medium serves as a tragic turning point in Saul's life, marking the end of his reign and foreshadowing the impending defeat in the battle against the Philistines. It underscores the importance of faithfulness and obedience to God's commands in the biblical narrative.
      2. Attempted Annihilation of the Priesthood (1 Samuel 22): After Saul perceived that David was a threat to his kingship, he began to pursue David relentlessly. In his paranoia, Saul ordered the massacre of the priests of Nob because they had assisted David. This act not only went against God's command to honor the priesthood but also resulted in the death of innocent people who were loyal to David. One priest, Abiathar, escaped and joined David, and Saul's ruthless actions further demonstrated his departure from God's principles.

    You make some really excellent points here, and you’re not wrong. But as one who knows ancient Hebrew allow me to present another aspect to it. Amalek was dedicated to the total destruction of Israel and they didn’t try to do it bravely but in a cowardly manner just as you point out.
    But we have to recall that the Five Books of Moses absolutely forbid killing the children for the sins of the parents see Deuteronomy 24:16. In verses where God exacts judgment upon the third and fourth generation “of those who hate me” it means that those generations still hate God and do the evil their fathers did. That’s what the verses mean.
    Now that’s the Law of Moses. And while there are many Prophets there is only one lawgiver, Moses. No Prophet may promulgate laws that go against the law of Moses and if they do they’re a false prophet. (Jesus NEVER abrogated any law of Moses. He only clarified the laws and illustrated their spiritual and moral purpose.)
    Samuel was not a false prophet so what could he have been doing when making this command?
    If you look at 1Samuel 15:3 it shows that Samuel tells the people to smite Amalek whose whole raison detre is to destroy Israel and of course the Kenites are told to leave first. It appears to me that the only difference between Kenites and Amalekites is that Kenites are righteous and fear God, Amalekites oppose God but just because you are born an Amalekite doesn’t mean you necessarily stay one if you turn to God. Then you become a Kenite. It’s all their choice.
    So being an Amalekite is a choice and Amalek should be understood not as a nation or tribe or family but as a spiritual order. They have a mission and a purpose, an evil unholy one. That’s why both men and women among them should be killed. It’s no different from modern Israel wiping out Hamas. Hamas recruits men and women alike. It’s a noble virtuous thing to do to destroy them.
    But why babies and sucklings?
    I say that there are no babies and no sucklings among Amalek at all, because babies and sucklings don’t have a choice to become Amalekites.
    The word for baby used is עלל and it’s related to the word עלילה which in Ancient Hebrew means pretense or plot. It’s the exact same word used in Psalms 137:9 where it’s supposedly good to dash Babylonian babies against a rock. But the same word for ‘babies’ is עלל so I say the verse means “Fortunate is he who grabs and smashes your pretenses against the Rock (the Rock being God as He’s portrayed thus elsewhere.”). While the word for “suckling” is יונק which means “the sucker” or ״the one who takes nourishment from” or even you could say “the parasite.”
    So what Samuel is telling us to do is to kill these ancient Hamas people and to not have mercy on the עלל that is the grifter. The one who is pretending to be an Amalekite for whatever personal gain, while the יונק means the one who uses Amalek and mooches off them. These kinds too are dangerous. That’s literally what I see it meaning because otherwise would violate Gods rules given to Moses.
    As for the animals well animals are very sensitive. They become affected by what’s around them. The evil or foolishness humans do rubs off on their animals and affects them too (look at how the Biden’s’ dog keeps biting Secret Service agents.). This must be even more true for large animals. You try take them home you’ll find them unmanageable and vicious.

This might have influenced how he carried out divine instructions.

      epic monkey Thanks for the question.
      I believe there's clear examples why God giving all people time makes sense.
      1. It means WE cannot claim God did not give us a chance to follow him or believe in him but freely chose to reject him for whatever reason they so choose.
      2. This showcases the Love of God, that although we sin against God, he is willing to forgive even our most wicked deeds.
      3. Most importantly for us, the Bible says God wants all to choose him, and angels rejoice when just 1 turns to God. With time there are those who change. One soul is precious and many examples in the Bible, and in life today showcase people eventually coming to him. They would never have this opportunity if God never gave a chance.

      Children carry generational curses, meaning they are already demonic at birth or at a very young age if their parents are worshiping false gods such a baal or living in sin, hence why they were not spared. The animals which were killed were most likely those which had been abused or victims of beastiality and so were unclean. The animals who had not been treated as such were clean and so were spared.

      here is a passage in your own bible that state that this mighty one will kill his enemies and be victorious over them
      pslam 45 3-7
      Gird your sword on your side, you mighty one;
      clothe yourself with splendor and majesty.
      4 In your majesty ride forth victoriously
      in the cause of truth, humility and justice;
      let your right hand achieve awesome deeds.
      5 Let your sharp arrows pierce the hearts of the king’s enemies;
      let the nations fall beneath your feet.

    This is the same thing we would do in modern day if there was an actual super dangerous virus.

      I guess it's a good thing there isn't a super dangerous virus.
