The fur on Sand Barioth does actually make sense. A proper coat of fur can not only help retain body heat in cold environments, but it can also act as insulation to keep the heat out. Considering how big the Barioth is, and it presumably cools off by panting, it's safe to assune its fur is actually an excellent heat insulator as deserts will have both extreme heat during the day, but also very cold during the night.

I was fighting some barioths in GU earlier today, and I can confirm that it actually does have the wall jump attack in that game. It seems to be fairly uncommon however, and from what I've seen it'll only use the attack on the arctic ridge, not the frozen seaway for some reason. Also, it can still do the area transition ambush in GU.
Edit: I fought barioth again in the frozen seaway and saw it do the wall jump in area 6. It kinda seemed like a buggy interaction though because I wasn't close to it when it went on the wall, and in lunged in completely the wrong direction. I didn't have palicoes or anything so there wasn't another target.

Other than that, great video! I always loved Barioth's design (especially Frostfang's) and I enjoyed the 4th gen and Sunbreak fight (in LR and HR it felt too slow to the point I wish the HR fight was the LR one), but in Iceborne I absolutely loved Barioth and Frostfang!

Funny his weakest attack is what faints me more than any of his others. When you are low on health or drinking a poition he will do that really quick lunge/jump and hit you with his teeth. I have seen Iceborne Barioth fly to leave or enter an area a few times, but it seems like it happens only in a very specific area. That area being Area 6 of the Hoarfrost Reach map.
I have seen it fly into the area 6 a few seldom times when it was hungry and after an Anteka. I have most often seen it fly when it leaves area 6 to go to 7 especially after it had a turf war with Fulgur Anjanath or Ebony Odogaron

Barioth is the definition of learnable (other than diablos). Barioth has a lot of moves that are quite difficult to dodge ,and it’s even harder to dodge when he chains these attacks. But when you hunt him a couple more times , you’ll find out that there are a lot of openings in his attacks. If you fight him even more ,you’ll even be able to predict what moves he’s going to do and act accordingly. His hunt goes from what seems unfair compared to other monsters on the same power level ,to a relatively easy fight.

Barioth was my first major roadblock in Iceborne and I kind of like that. He's fast, aggressive, and evasive- three things that, at the time, didn't pair very will with the way I used Charge Blade, so it forced me to shift up my playstyle some. Though, while I say I liked that Barioth was a roadblock, I've never enjoyed the hunt.

With sand barioth's armor it would actually make sense to have fur. What doesn't make sense is these monsters sizes being in the desert. There's not many large species living in most desert regions. The camel for example we know didn't even originate from desert regions. The same goes for barioth in fact. The fur would support warmth for cold nights in the caves and hunting nocturnally if needed during a particularly hot season.

People talk about whether certain sub/rare species/variants are going to be added but here's the way I see it; if a monster has moves that were present in older games that aren't present now, that there's a chance that there's a variation coming...
take Molten Tigrex (and also Brute technically); the move where he stomps for a bit before roaring and the massive telegraphed roar are not present in Sunbreak Tigrex, despite the fact that sub/rare species/variant moves have been added to the base monster before and Sunbreak Tigrex could have pulled off these moves easily
or more relevant to this video, Frostfang Barioth has the double slam attack; adding this move to Sunbreak Barioth would have been childs play, but they didn't... heck even added the upwards facing ice breath that Frostfang has (or the large ice blast attack) would have been simple, but the fact that they didn't means to me that they might be planning a comeback for Frostfang Barioth
the same goes for Molten Tigrex as well

I feel like if they bring back deviants, frostfang should count as a deviant. It kinda fits the bill, and it’s kinda like silverwind, as both are described as older, more experienced individuals of their kind.

Armor visuals is one of the most important aspects of the game, so I like the focus on that. However, personally i enjoy seeing what skills the sets had and how it has changed. It doesn't need to be super detailed, but a quick "it had these skills, and this skill unique to X monster did such and such."

I’ve got a clip of Sunbreak Barioth getting ready to jump off a wall and then glitching out and teleporting back to the ground. I’m not sure if that means it does have the attack and it just glitched or if it’s something unintended.
Edit: It does have the wall jump. I have a new clip of it working as intended.

I love Barioth but I hate to fight it in IB because whenever it pounces it traps my character as it slides, it doesn't even do damage but blocks any movement and you are often completely open to its next attack because you're stuck in it.

Not just that, you could also very easy wall slam him all the time and his frozen ground attack can be negated by useing the iceproof mantle or tourch pots.

@@lubbo5261 "his frozen ground attack can be negated by useing the iceproof mantle or tourch pots"
to be honest; that sounds like the intended way to counter Frostfang's frozen ground attacks
but yeah I agree that they did him dirty, had they added him before Alatreon arrived, he would have been far more formidable!
They also shouldn't have made him Tempered from the get-go... tbh it almost seems like they were supposed to add him in the previous TU along with Furious Rajang and Raging Brachydios but cut him out at the last second
and the wall slam argument is kinda irrelevant as that was a major problem for all monsters not named Alatreon or Fatalis lol

Barioth has always been pretty cool to me, but also either incredibly easy or incredibly hard. First met in Iceborne, walled me out of prancing about with insect glaive, picked up a new weapon, learned the game. Frostfang, thought it was kind of easy, my thoughts at the time, and still are, it came when it did as a care package of weapons to beat Alatreon with. 3u, reasonably fun fight, one that I found myself doing really often, and though I didn't know why breaking the arms was good at the time, still did it, and found profitable results. Sand Barioth was painful though, it's all the mobility of Barioth with the battlefield control of Kushala, in a more annoying map with worse invaders than normal Barioth. Still, Evade Extender, Heat Res, Attack Up, I think it was? Some points in all them? I mean, two of those are the best skills in classic MH.
Did certainly just blend in with the rest in GU, but Hyper Barioth, I think I tried once, didn't go back. I kind of barely keep up with normal Barioth, especially G rank, then with Hyper....ugh. I love his new tail slam in Sunbreak, and I also generally love his springing back to head on after attacks in whatever game. Afflicted Barioth, also, just the right challenge.

it's funny that you say that now... but I was one of many people who had to fight Alatreon on Day 1... without Frostfang weapons
seriously? Why didn't they add him with Furious Rajang and Raging Brachydios? 3 Variants in one update would have been perfect
