My usual hunting partner plays Dual Blades, and he hated fighting Chameleos in the old gen games because Chameleos would steal his Mega Dash Juice, haha.
easy solution for that: dont take it with you xD
I don't need mega dash juice for this one.. it's an easy win with a dual blade.. while Kirin are for me is the easiest to hunt.. I just kept planting bombs and make him exploded with the barrel 🤣

This was immediately drawn as a meme as soon as he was confirmed for rise. Though in the meme, it wasn't your Wirebug *_CHARGES_* but the Wirebug *_itself._*
The meme had a hunter Wirebug upwards, Chameleos shooting out its tongue, & the hunter faceplanting on the ground with the in-game popup "Wirebug was stolen" on screen.
Or it just steals your whole ass weapon and you gotta throw up the ol fisticuffs until they spit it back 😂

in the old gen, one way to track chameleos while its invisible during a fight is to run around in circles. When the run animation changes to "runaway", it means you are facing away from the general direction of the monster
also poisoning iirc is a good one.
Two more things about Rise Chameleos is that sometimes he can perform his big body slam twice in a row to fake out hunters that counterattacked the first body slam (I'm pretty sure he only does it while enraged but I'm not 100% sure) and while he has an area covered in mist, his theme is muted.
Rise's Cham has to many more moves than his past iterations that are challenging at first but really rewarding once mastered. Any other fight in different games just felt tedious due to his hitzones and hitboxes. Rise finally cleared them up and made the fight one of the best in the game imo. Great fight.
I never fought a cham before rise but i was quite decided because I was expecting a dangerous elder dragon and not just a gimmick
In 4u his breath attack was really strong for the gear you had when encountering him and in 2 his invisibility was non stop and the wind pressure was truly a pain (strangely enough it's nonetheless the monster which left an impression on me the most in 2) I'm pretty sure he was always able to flee before I could deliver the final blow (couldn't 1 run kill him)
Here's a tidbit that I saw in another video - if you observe Chameleos from a distance in Rise, you get to see the reason for his big flap-like tail. He uses it in certain areas to disturb insects - not Vespoids or Bnahabra, but regular run-of-the-mill insects - and then grabs them out of the air with his tongue, just like the real world chameleon he's modeled after. Once he's done, he'll drop a shiny, and continue on his merry way.
I know there's a mod for the PC version that drops monster aggro to zero until you attack them, but I really want Rise Sunbreak to have something akin to the Ghillie Mantle from Worldborne - an equip-able item that basically makes large monsters ignore you until you attack them so you can observe these behaviors up close.
I remember I had an encounter with a Chameleos while fighting in the Flooded Forest, he turned invisible but I was able to locate him via the splashes he left behind, so I calculated and countered his slam attack and stunned him. Felt like a scene from a fricken movie
In my opinion, I think Rise Chameleos is the best. It is not weak, more aggresive, shoots more severe poison, and steals Spiribirds only, which is sometimes useless since I don’t use buffs that much. GU Chameleos is good but Rise just made him better

Note that the ring of Rise chameleos can be expanded or closed on you depending on where he is.
Love him, my favorite monster or at least one of my favorites in that rotating list. Tricky, quirky, fun elder dragon with a great theme, fight, and armor.
You didn't mention somethings that in MH2, sonic bomb can only made it semi transparent and both of its breath attacks inflict "vocal cord paralysis" status effect that disable chat, prevent you to communicate with other player.
They changed it in Freedom 2/Unite, sonic and smoke bomb can now make it completely visible temporarily. Each one of breath attacks had different status effect, the blob spit inflicts defense down while the gas breath inflicts fatigue/stamina drain.
The thing I always loved the most about Chameleos is how, unlike the other Elder Dragons, he relies on cunning and wits instead of raw power, making his fight quite unique.
And for my favorite Chameleos, I guess my vote goes to Freedom Unite's one, since that's the first Chameleos I fought and it brings me a lot of nostalgia, specially his old theme, it's kinda a shame it only played when he was enraged, but at the same time that fact added a bit more of uniqueness to this creature. Love the Rise's version of the theme too, since it fits better with the more agile and stronger Chameleos that he's become now
I think Chammy is good in both GU and in Rise, but the theme in Rise is just incredible, I could listen to it for hours!
My first game being World I never knew it Kushala and Teostra were a trio.
That game was just full of natural occuring Elders I loved that a lot.
Rise Chameleos is very fun, easily my favorite version of the monster
Chameleos is such a unique monster, he's a very interesting concept. Fighting him in GenU was definitely something I remember fondly.

If stolen items ails you keep felvine in your inventory. Even back in mh1 felvine is always stolen first. No matter if Melynx, Gypcerous, or Chamelios. Also of note: if you have items stolen, they end up in the "junk pile" at the Felynx "base" on the map as long as you don't finish/fail the mission.

Well at least in Freedom 2/Unite, I can definitely confirm that Chameleos can steal Books of Combos. He did it to me at least TWICE. I was so pissed... I always carried at least 1 and 2 so I could mix MegaPots on the fly.
By far the cutest Elder Dragon. I hate that I have to slay him and can't capture.😭

In Rise, Chameleos feels like a funny and easy fight so I'm surprised how weaker it was before that. Even though it did not appear as much in the series, they did a really great job reworking it's moveset, stealth and stealing gimmick.

my favorite move for chameleos in rise is probably his little slap with his front paw, its a simple one but the way he gently winds it up before slapping you is really funny to me. hes like a cat knocking something off the counter

I love the design of the Narcyla Charge Blade. I really hope she comes back in the next game. Or in Sunbreak.
I liked him in FU, that was my first experience of him and I loved that he could just hide though it's def not the most fun hunt. Still working through frontier so that might end up topping it for me.

Me and my friends fought this time a number of times in Generations Ultimate. It kept stealing most of our items and constantly disappeared on us. But overtime we eventually figured out it’s movements and learned how to beat it more faster
I remember being so shocked when I made the chameleos long sword in Freedom Unite and seeing it become invisible when you'd fully charged your meter, mind blowing stuff as a kid. Kinda disappointed that in rise the longsword is just semi-translucent but it makes more sense. I also remember farming G-rank chameleos in MHFU because I was convinced the armour would let you turn invisible.
I think Rise Chameleos's body slam was borrowed from Vaal Hazak, which sort of served as a substitute for Cham in World.
in MH2 he can be invisible every time even enraged. That makes it the hardest chammy fight I have done. It is way harder than in FU. In your videos you usually ignore MH2 because you think that the monsters are like in FU but that is not the case for all of them. And this is one of the cases. Chammy has also an exclusive effect in MH2 and MHFrontier that makes you unable to use the ingame chat when he throw his liquid. That effect is not in FU.

First and last time I hunted Chameleoes was in freedom 2. Stole my last mega potion when I needed it most.

I'm surprised you did not mention that in Mh2 he can turn off your ability to chat, its the only game where he can do so
One of the few returning monsters that has the best treatment in rise.
When Chammy does that giant circle of poison move, it can sometimes do a fake out and fly outside then collapse circle in on you.
Also... Chammy's theme sounds suspiciously something like from a Metal Gear solid game. I wonder if it's on purpose or something, being Chameleos is a stealth reptile. The games would have a mutual collab later on, so maybe they are fans of each other's games.

This was a fun little moment while fighting the blighter back in Freedom Unite. Something i imagine many other people have gone through.
So, essentially, i challenged myself to fight all the elder dragons i could find wearing no armour, and using the basic bone weapons, I can power myself with the charms and heal using the best i could make.
About 30 minutes into hunting the Chameleos, i was down to 1 mega potion and half health, as i was getting what i believed to be some distance, i attempted to drink the mega potion, only to have it stolen from me. Low health, no potions, i was thoroughly doomed. In any other story i would tell, there's usually a "Ultra Instinct" moment i go through when in a desperate situation, but this is Freedom Unite. Fainted, innit.
I’m kinda bummed out the hongry status effect never came back. It’s such a troll effect that can low key set you up to be carted and it would’ve been fun to see in modern gen mh titles
I wish when he stole a consumable he used it. Imagine him snagging a demom or armor drink.
I think it'd be funny if Chameleos had a 0.1% of stealing a Tranq Bomb and it instantly put him to sleep.
Perhaps my favorite thing about Chameleos is how he breaks the 4th wall. Like disabling your ability to chat In Dos. Or how when he sprays mist in the area his theme becomes muffled.
Just wait for Chameleos to start stealing things from your HUD or give players a fake "Quest complete"
His fight in Rise is pretty okay but I miss his old theme. The new one is still a good listen and I like the new parts but his old theme was one of my absolute favorites

I haven't fought this monster directly yet, as most of my time has been spent in generation 3. From what I see, however, this monster sure does give off a claymation / stop motion vibe to both it's model and animation. It just does not quite flow right... which I suspect is part of the charm. :-)
What about Chameleos hard shell skin body (apart from the horn of all places) from MHFU?
4:42 in 4u if you see a poison icon with 3 bubbles it's stronger.. but doesnt last as long

I love Chameleos so much in all his versions (also the dragon trio in general), but Rise version was a bit disappointing, his physical attacks should deal more damage and his movements are less hard to predict
My vote goes to the Generations ultimate version. I would have voted for the Monster Hunter rise one, but the Nerf stealing kills the immersion element of the fight.
The GU version to me just has waaaayyyy too much health.

If Chameleos was smaller and more spazzy (movements & attacks), would the fight be interesting or annoying?
For a while I felt Chameleos felt off and not on model in Rise. I first suspected he might lost his Chameleon Walk, but thats not it.
After watching a full Hunt I realized, he baerly walks at all. He mostly Jumps, or uses some of his physical Attacks for Spacing.
This feels off to me, I do like all the new Attacks, but it takes away the very naturalistic Aspect of the Monster.
/ His Crazy Beam and Stealing.
His Beam now has a Hitbox under his Tail, preventing you from dodging it, and Gypceros can steal all Types of Items, like Lightcrystals, Chame only Consumables.

I started in 3 ultimate (never played g-rank) and went directly into generations (not gen ultimate) chameleos was an elder dragon I was curious about in generations, next to Kushala (not teostra). Let's just say I massively preferred it to the Kushala and Teostra. Plus, was interesting fighting a monster that turn invisible and had movemments unlike other monsters

It stealing only nectar was such a disappointment in rise.
I think it's a decent change, since stealing items wouldn't have been a big setback for us. Stealing the birb buffs actually increases his attack or defence and because hitting his head can be a bit difficult at times, it means you have to play well to regain them.
@@HeavyWings Fair enough, since you can just head back to camp. I guess I just missed getting mad over him taking taking all my megas in 4.
@@HeavyWings But every item he steal is material lost forever , especially when he snatch something as valuable as max potion / ancient potion forcing you to come back to camp or carry on with the fight without the ensuring of better healing option . He did stole my bird from time to time but i haven't noticed any different in power and i can smack him to get my bird back easily cus one of his new move completely immobilize him on the ground or the new DB switch skill which let me climb up and strike his head .
i want him to eat my entire item box if he still is in sunbreak.

I don't like the Rise version , he no longer steal item which lower his threat a bit . Stealing your buffs ? big deal , not like everyone gather bird before the fight start in random anyways....And you can even steal its back...
I mean stealing items in rise is kinda pointless when you can get items back easily and the chameleos who got nectar buffs are made stronger with the nectar.
4U Chameleos was the best one, he's too fast in Rise and his poison being made so that it bypasses your poison resist is the type of bullshit that makes me not like Rise. He also lost that slowness and instead just made him kinda annoying.

a way to find out where he is in the old games when he's completely invisible, like in GU, is to sheath and run, you have 2 sprint animations the normal sprint and the panic run that indicates you are running away from a large monsters and allows you to superman dive. if you see this second run animation he's beind you so do a 180 turn.
until MHW, the trio were always together in the games they appeared in or at least having chameleos join in for the g rank but chameleos wasn't in IB so this trend ended. his Rise iteration was was totally worth the wait in my opinion though. i do miss his item theft but i imagine in future games it will be back, as we won't have the spiribird gimmick. him stealing spiribird buffs has a benefit where if they are removed by hitting his head not only can the hunter who lost them get them back but any teammate that runs into the cloud gets them so they are duplicated. a small reward but a nice touch.
I bet he also stole charge full potential. There's no other explanation 😢
