Not really IMO. The manticore is typically depicted as having the body of a lion *with the head of a man but with triple rows of sharp teeth* and a tail which either has spines like a porcupine or sometimes a scorpion like stinger. The Chimera from the classical Greek legend of Bellerophon was a lion head and body but with a goat's head protruding from it's back and a tail that ends in a snake's mouth. The Chimera breathed fire (sometimes from it's goat head) and at least some tellings of the legend of Bellerophon involves him shoving a lead lance down it's mouth as he rode the winged horse Pegasus. As mentioned chimera also means more generically a mix up of different beast parts but the lion/goat/snake I believe was the first recorded use of the term. But there has been a fair amount of variety with both ancient and medieval stories and bestiaries. More modern depictions of both manticore and chimera in fantasy tabletop games and video games have both having leathery wings. I might D&D for adding these back in the 70's but they might have turned up earlier. The lion head, lion body and breathing fire that is iconically Teostra I feel more suits the OG Chimera than manticore even if it lacks the two other heads.
Even though Lunastra’s fight can be seen as annoying and tedious because of her abilities, I personally enjoy her fight and the amount of chaos that she brings as well since she became her own unique monster and truly feels like fighting a monster that has full control over the fire element instead of being a cool ranch dorito version of Teostra. Ignoring my admiration for world lunastra, this was a great video and it’s nice to see how the king and queen of flames have evolved over the years. As for my favorite iteration of Toaster, I would have to say that the title goes to rise toaster.
Aside a couple hitboxses and the awful wind pressure I do have to agree I think she is a masterfully well made monster and fight with such an elegant demeanor and I hope she returns in Sunbreak with some less wind stuff kinda like Kush
Her Supernova was a bit too oppressive without a specialized build to counter her specifically imo. Wind pressure, the exploding dust patches and constant health drain are a bit much at once. If the dust patches weren't generated all around her AoE I think it'd be a lot less hated and you could have reserved the dust patches for the AT version since that implicitly requires specialized counter builds.
I wanna say as a MH Veteran Teostra always holds an important part in my heart that world solidified. In real life I was a zookeeper for years and had to sometimes work with lions (whom I am terrified of). Monster hunter gave me an interesting outlet to turn my fear into courage, and teostras stunning lair in world, as well as *in my opinion* the greatest theme song of all time has actually made him ironically my favorite monster
Back in 4U, what we would do is use a Wystone when Teostra goes into rage mode. Around the time the Wystone finishes cooldown, that's when Teostra would do the supernova. :D
I always found Teostra extremly annoying to fight Rise's Teostra is definitely my favourite because the figth feels very nicely choreographed with the least instant attacks and patterned behavior even over world Lunastra i could never get used to no matter how much i fought her in world though and in the gens before she was whatever
"Rise's Teostra is definitely my favourite because the figth feels very nicely choreographed with the *least instant attacks* and patterned behavior even over world" I tried fighting Teostra in GU and I was like "STOP LEAPING ACROSS THE GODDAMN MAP!! I WANNA F**KING HIT YOU!!"
AT Teo and Luna will always hold a spot in my heart as I spent so long grinding them for the layered armor. I was playing 4u again and was reminded of how unpredictable Teo’s blast explosions are. Definitely a bad aspect of that fight but it really made me appreciate his unpredictability and attack patterns. I haven’t really fought a version of him that was that fast.
I'd kill to see Lunastra return in Sunbreak. Partly to see her and Teo's bond nova again, and also because I'd like to see weapons with skills return, and that's something Luna's weapons had in Worldborne.
Teostra and Lunastra in World/Iceborne were a tale of two halves for me Teostra gave me one of the most satisfying victories in World before Iceborne came out And Lunastra is still by far my least favourite monster in that game (only reason it's not my least favourite of the franchise is because Khezu just, exists). Never enjoyed fighting her and never found her gear to be worth it either
You can say what you want about Lunastra but you cannot deny that the World version is much better than the old version, she literally used to be Blue Teostra, in World she is very much unique compared to her mate, even if that meant giving her an OP super nova
I’m actually hoping Lunastra shows up in Sunbreak and her fight can get a rework like Kushala’s did. The wirebugs would definitely help to get over her fire that she spreads literally all over the place.
Teostra is my all time favorite MH monster! His design is amazing and his fight is always fun for me. Lunastra is in a weird place for me as I thought she was really not fun in World/Iceborne. Still I hope she ends up in Sunbreak and they can improve her fight a bit.
Honestly. Teostra is one of my favorite elder dragons due to him being so fluffy and his fire looking so cool. So when I found out that I can just vibe with him in world I would just sit with him and relax after some stupidly painful hunts.
I didn't really enjoy fighting Teostra pre world but now I find him enjoyable thanks to hunter movement having evolved allowing for better avoidance of his attacks. Unlike many others I actually enjoy Lunastra's fight as now she's unique and challenging plus I use Insect Glaive so avoiding her ground hazards and getting out of range of her attacks isn't an issue for me
Oh I remember when I first played a Monster Hunter game in Freedom Unite, Lunastra was such a hurdle for me in the village quest that I was always scared of her and Teostra. Now in Rise and even IB, fighting either or both always gives me a sense of pride after winning
Teo/Luna also represent Manticore's but without the scorpion tail. Also while they made Lunastra's thing fire they made her weapons blast...should have made them fire imo.
Hello I love these videos I had a little recommendation for you though. Could you also do a little segment about that monsters equipment from each of the games? I think that would be great might add some extra length, but I would love to see that.
4U Teostra was just something special. In my opinion, he had the best g-rank additions of just about any monster in the franchise. While seemingly innocuous at first glance, his ability to detonate his blast clouds at will added an entire new dimension to the fight. It was a genuine game changer. Before, just using biology allowed you to completely ignore the clouds with no consequences whatsoever, but in g-rank you must give them your full attention. Every moment spent in or near the clouds was a calculated risk, a gamble, with the knowledge that they could blow up in your face at any point. It added so much more to the fight than just some random vertical breath attack or running tail flip that so many other g-rank monsters had, despite technically being a single move just like the rest of them. Grinding out his armor was challenging, but so much fun!
I wish you'd talk about the monsters gear in these videos. What skills the armor have, how the skills changed between games, how the armor and weapons played in the meta, etc.
4U Teo has a special place in my heart. Probably one of the funnest fights I've had in MH. I was a Bow main and I kept timing out while fighting him so I had to completely change how I play including shooting into the camera's blindspot to get extra hits when he jumps, microstepping flame breathe to dodge it, staying up SUPER close so he wouldn't use most of his mid-long range attacks, trying to keep track of the Nova timer. God damn was it fun. Funny how both of my favorite fights in the series were walls for me, used Blast, and were in 4U (the other being Molten Tiggy).
I love just about everything of Teostra. I actually was walled by Teostra during the hand console series. My only gripe is the armor of Teostra. Teostra had a special appearance/ armor layout. World and I believe Rise now offers you Teostra with a "bucket helmet" armor.
6:07 Ah yes I see Lunastra took Bloodbath Diablos' class in "Fuck the hunters, all my homies _UTTERLY DESPISE_ the hunters" and became his blue star pupil in that class from what I've seen'n'heard
I also have history with Teostra in MH4U, while I never had issue fighting him, I loved the look of his G-Rank armor and wanted it. One issue, the legs needed a Teostra gem. For the life of me I couldn't get a gem, until I managed to bag over 50 Teostra in G-Rank alone. I absolutley love Teostra though, the style, the music, and the mechanics. I remember watching the intro cutscene in 4U and seeing Teostra ignite the powder with his teeth and thinking, "That's the coolest thing I've ever seen." And it was. Until I saw Gogmazios.
World Teostra ftw just because... that OST man, it's so fucking good. Lunastra feels like it could be an ok fight but it always felt like you were missing something when fighting her, kinda like Kushala.
I think you forgot to mention the different phases Teostra has in rise where he changes his moves to apply blast, or fire, also he has different blast patterns in Rise.

Teostra and Lunastra kind of remind me of Dante and Vergil from Devil May Cry and their Sin Devil Triggers. With Teostra's (Dante's) horns being fully formed and curving, and Lunastra's (Vergil's) being cut off.
Teostra is one of my favourite monsters, i really like the chimera aspect of it and its hunts have always been fun to me in the various games! The only bad part has always been the ass looking armor but hey, no one is perfect... Lunasstra can straight up go die in a hole for all i care, after world's addition of a supermove that cannot be dodged in any way if not leaving the area completely she can be exiled from the franchise alltogether 'til the end of time.
In World, Teostra preferes Blast if you use Wather Weapons, and Fire on Ice Weapons. Also Poison negates his Aura. And im not sure if you mentioned it, but his Aura negates Bullets and Arrows. Also Lunastra does not just use two Heatwaves, there are smaller hard to spot Fire Waves who inflict very high Damage. I found Teostras Moveset to robotic in 4U, he feld not like a real Animal. World improved him by a lot.
Ah yes the Flame Hashira Rengoku Kyojuro, Teostra and Lunastra both have really garnered respect over the years and becomes some of my all time favorite monsters.
Teostra is probably my favorite Elder Dragon of the 2nd gen ED trio, and is one of the monsters I actually look forward to fighting. He has undoubtedly a memorable design and music theme (I find his mount theme better than Zinogre's.) albeit his fight can be quite tedious at times, especially in the older games. Compared to her male counterpart, Lunastra is lower on my ED tier list. While the flames hazards and its moveset being based around it were a nice touch to distinguish itself from the (now) Blast Teostra, the wind pressure makes her fight a lot more difficult, Gog help you if you're knocked into the fire, no I-frames will save you from being cooked.
when doing the special assignment during lunastra's quest line in world, after weakening teo enough they both went to sleep together rather cute but overall, i'd stick with teo, luna only became an ok fight after removing the ground element (with wind pressure and flame puddles), and dealing insane damage just from swiping a shame that i can't enjoy the fight, really, the weapons are great
Kushala is a steel armored, wind-controlling armor. Its design speaks "cool". But its a shame that Rise is one of the few versions that are actually fun to play against.
My favorite teo is freedom unite. I absoulutly despised 4u teo. I didnt even struggle on him or anything i just hate him. And im still urked that hes the supposed king of flame but all the weapons do blast blight now and he uses blast blight. And in world even tho luna came back she didnt get actual weapons which was very dissapointing. Teo stole lunas LS desgine and changed the color. i hope if luna gets added to rise she actually gets weapons desgined after her be it differnt or the same as teos just blue and fire instead of blast. Id say i do prefer luna even tho both of them in world are not really fights i like.
Those mini novas that Lunastra does where she stands up briefly and blasts you with flame is kind of BS because that attack has no telegraph and is almost unreactable
@@HeavyWings I know wind resistance is encouraged for Lunastra but i’m greedy with my dps skills so I end up just tanking through it lol. Now that I have Fatalis armor and windproof +4 jewels I should probably use it. I love the videos man keep up the good work
I’m gonna go on a limb before the video Will talk as if reading a wiki list then say he loves the rise hunt the most Edit: wow he likes the mh4u I can respect that
Rise teostra feels overtuned and they reversed him back to his old world counterpart: instant charges, leaps and pounces when your right in his face, and limited opportunity to attack
I can't Express enough how much Kooler Monster hunter world looks and feels compared to rise.. its staggering to think back to the days of Alatreon and Fatalis combat even stygian zinogre.. meanwhile Rise is everything else but easier.. even Shagaru Magala which is the most Beautiful dragon i've ever seen in FICTION period.. feels defeatable no threat. lol
I'd just like to point out, Lunastras super nova is still called a supernova. It's the combined novas of Teostra and Lunastra that's called the hypernova
I love Teostra, especially his music. I still rock his master rank alpha helmet just for the fashion. I _hate_ Lunastra. She is the most aggravating fight in the series for me. I beat her once, never fighting that thing again.
everyone talks shit about vaal but, to me, teo is the easiest elder in MHW by far. for one thing, to make Vaal trivial you actually want an armor skill. with teo there's no reason to care at all. you can make teo even easier with fire and/or blast res but there's no reason to. only effluvium cuts your health in half and makes it so a certain attack will kill you if you are in the zone with the status on you. i normally have 1 shot type mechanics like Frontier's super thunder blight where if you are hit a second time you can't more/die in 10 seconds if no one saves you. or mega Frontier Khezu's eating you attack that not only 1 shots you, no questions asked but can grab more than one hunter at a time. i'd be fine if khezu's pin was skipped only if you were paralyzed at the time so it's not a single move but a move that changes if you have a status on you like vaal's attack. i liked MHW luna because it made a useless skill amazing for a hunt, heat guard use to only matter on lavasioth an it's lavasioth so saying it matters is kind of a meme. it's nice to have fights that make those niche skills good, i wished for a long time, for an actual threatening monster to make you consider aquatic expert but no dice. for this reason, i absolutely hated the master rank lunastra. they just decided to make heat guard not work anymore because fuck you. i like having fights that are hard but also have things that can be countered by your build if you have the means and choose to use them. that's why master rank lunastra is ruined for me. you could still flash her to cause a premature nova on your terms so it was easier to dive it or out space it but it's still dumb. my favorite is base MHW's lunastra by a mile. teo i like MHW and Rise, they are different but bot hhave charm, i do slightly prefer MHW letting him shift modes more often but Rise giving him the faster nova again and having more vibrant colors to show his mode are also great features.
I read it somewhere, but teostra is more like based from manticore than chimera, correct me if i'm wrong
Even though there is a creature called THE Chimera, the term chimera in general just means creature that has features from a mixture of different animals, so the Manticore is a chimera, just not the chimera

0:25 He reminds me more of a manticore.
Sunbreak Teostra is full cat mode.
Ah yes the Flame Hashira Rengoku Kyojuro, Teostra and Lunastra both have really garnered respect over the years and becomes some of my all time favorite monsters.
I've only seen world/IB lunastra, and I honestly hope I never have to fight her again
Extrime teostra.
Barioth next?
Is World Teostra's supernova bigger then Rise. I never felt scared fighting him in Rise. Only in World did I feel intimidated
While the flames hazards and its moveset being based around it were a nice touch to distinguish itself from the (now) Blast Teostra, the wind pressure makes her fight a lot more difficult, Gog help you if you're knocked into the fire, no I-frames will save you from being cooked.
when doing the special assignment during lunastra's quest line in world, after weakening teo enough they both went to sleep together
rather cute
but overall, i'd stick with teo, luna only became an ok fight after removing the ground element (with wind pressure and flame puddles), and dealing insane damage just from swiping
a shame that i can't enjoy the fight, really, the weapons are great
Kushala is a steel armored, wind-controlling armor. Its design speaks "cool". But its a shame that Rise is one of the few versions that are actually fun to play against.
Can you so evolution of qurupeco next?
it would be very interesting
My forth favorite monster
would rather say that teostra resembles more of a manticore then a chimera
In world i respect the hell outa luna. No flashes.
I absolutely despite this guy, litteraly the only Monster that punishes you for playing well.
teo is the best monster of all time
Not a big fan of Teostra but this video is very interesting 💙😁
I prefer iceborne lunastra i was happy she finally got some love her flames are unique to her and its a fun yet annoying fight but i like it
I prefer more Lunastra because I feel like she gives more of a challenge than Teostra in MHW
Those mini novas that Lunastra does where she stands up briefly and blasts you with flame is kind of BS because that attack has no telegraph and is almost unreactable
Lunastra is the kind of fight where you NEED wind resistance, perhaps even more than Kushala.
@@HeavyWings I know wind resistance is encouraged for Lunastra but i’m greedy with my dps skills so I end up just tanking through it lol. Now that I have Fatalis armor and windproof +4 jewels I should probably use it. I love the videos man keep up the good work
i;love;teostra;in;world;and;rise
E A R L Y
I loved teostra when I fought him So I was really excited to fight lunastra, turned out she sucked so bad i took a month long break.
Teo is a fair fight Luna wasn’t in mhworld
I’m gonna go on a limb before the video
Will talk as if reading a wiki list then say he loves the rise hunt the most
Edit: wow he likes the mh4u I can respect that
Rise teostra feels overtuned and they reversed him back to his old world counterpart: instant charges, leaps and pounces when your right in his face, and limited opportunity to attack
Um teostra is based on a manticore
I can't Express enough how much Kooler Monster hunter world looks and feels compared to rise.. its staggering to think back to the days of Alatreon and Fatalis combat even stygian zinogre..
meanwhile Rise is everything else but easier.. even Shagaru Magala which is the most Beautiful dragon i've ever seen in FICTION period.. feels defeatable no threat. lol
Not a "Chimera" but a Manticore☺️. Its more accurate to describe Teostra☺️
I prefer the duo and I hope Luna comes to Rise
Toaster is his real name
2:46
He called Teostra a SHE
He a He
Do brachydios
