This is so well said and such a crucial truth for us all-especially creative types-to bear in mind. You’ve done a wonderful job expressing these things and your balanced approach is refreshing and convicting. Thank you for making this and sharing your story in such a relatable and applicable manner.

I'm an Orthodox Christian, and though (it seems) our sects of faith are separated by a great deal of Liturgy and almost 2,000 years, I believe you made the right choice. I once knew a monk of the Faith who was a good friend of the family. He unfortunately passed away when I was young, but a great deal of his wisdom was remembered in particular by my Grandfather. I remember when I was getting older, and starting to feel out my passions - as you did with Crash - he would always remind me; "Life is a gift. Do not follow passion for any reason other than that it will make you happy and content in the life you are given. Not for fame. Not for fortune. Not for gain." Having lived for over 10 years since my grandfather passed away, I see more and more wisdom in these words with every day. I'm glad that you discovered this wisdom too.
I very much enjoyed the first episode a few days back, and I eagerly await more. I hope now you can pursue this passion now in a healthy manner, with the end goal simply because doing it makes you happy in the gifts that God has given you.

I am an Anglican, and one of my closest friends just went from Rome to Orthodoxy. I realize that chasm that separates us, but I have nothing but respect and love for the faithful orthodox. I pray our unity may one day be restored in Him.
The Lord has brought me very far on this journey and has shown me the only way forward is to trust Him and lean on Him every step of the way. Crash is a real blessing but like any blessing, it can become a curse if it becomes a false god. Pray for me that I can remain faithful and make Crash something special and honoring to Him.
Thank you, brother. God bless you.

I'm not a Christian myself, or even a person of faith for that matter, but a lot of this video speaks to me. I agree fully about the dangers of tying one's entire identity on some project, or label, or celebrity, or whatever else. One's identity should not be attached to something external so willingly, or else any words or actions against said thing will come as a personal attack, and any failure of said thing will feel like loss of self/purpose as you described. That being said, there is something I have faith in. You and your team making this a fantastic series.

As a fellow Christian who liked RvB, it's definitely crazy how that obsession with something as simple as wanting to make a machinima or webseries can distance oneself from a relationship with God. I came to this channel seeing a neat suggestion for something called "CRASH," but then I found respect for a guy that has made intense personal sacrifices to pursue a relationship with our Heavenly Father. Glad I came across your channel, man.

I am not a believer in god, and I have my own views on him. But even then you made the right decision, the whole god being the importance of you doesn’t really go with me but the fact that you didn’t throw yourself into your passion was good. You should have a good life, and you should not throw it all at risk just to appease some idea or people you look up to. I hope you are doing well and I can’t wait to see what else you have in store for us.

I just discovered your first episode of Crash, and I really enjoyed it. It reminded me of the beginnings of RvB, and it looks like it has the potential to be a pretty good show.
You seem to really love this show of yours. Nothing wrong with that. I'm sure Jesus would encourage you to fulfill your passion if it truly makes you happy. Jesus is a very loving person, he would want you to be happy. If making CRASH makes you happy then go for it. I'm sure you will make something fantastic.

When I saw the thumbnail for Crash episode 1 just a day ago I clicked it on a whim. I hadn't heard of it or this channel before, but I too remember the halo machinimas from years ago that I used to watch as a teen. While watching Crash Ep1 I got that familiar feeling of the shows of old, that sort of quaint quality that season 1 of RvB had. But I could tell there was something more, the dialog while funny, had whit and some meaning behind it. After finishing it I subbed right away because I felt that wherever this goes, it has potential, then I saw and now watched this video.
The way you described the making of this show and the sort of "obsession" with it reminded me alot of a video project I was working on. It was going to be this big extravagant thing, close to an hour in length, and I was putting all my time and energy into it that it sort of took over everything I was doing and thinking. So I decided to stop and put the project on hold, I too have a 'obsessive'/hyperfixation on certain things that come into my life and most often, they go as soon as they come. I may not be a very religious person, I'd like to have a better relationship with God but it's on me to put in that effort to reach to him.
Hearing you putting something aside because you feel it's coming against your convictions is a very inspiring thing to hear. Very thoughtful and well done video, sir.
If and when you post more of the Crash show that you made, I'll be there to see it, as well as any other online content you produce. 👍

Thank you. I found this after you posted Episode 1 recently and I think this video found me at a right time. I’ve been struggling this past week, I lost my dog and despite other supremely hard losses throughout my life this one hit me like a 140mm shell. It has gotten to the point it’s affected my walk, it feels like it’s arrested my love for Christ, and it crushed my willpower to kill my sin. I’m probably more dependent on games than I have been in a long time, I think I’m going to take a hiatus now. I’m committed to a PC upgrade right now ironically, but it looks like I’m gonna be putting down the M&K for a long while even after my components come in.

I'm a Christian, and I want to showcase more Christian themes and elements into my stories that would give praise to God, but I do definitely feel like many of my interests can become, and probably are, idolatrous. I should strive and work to be better about this, but all the same, I'd like to find a way to balance the love I have for my hobbies and the love I have for Christ, and be able to know when to let go of my hobbies for something better God has in store.

This resonated with me not just as a creative type, but also the hopeless romantic. I've been rejected a lot and even lost a gf to murder. And for awhile I was bitter. But losing that gf gave me a lot of needed time to think about myself and reflect on all the problems I had with myself. I really hated myself when I was dating that girl. I didn't feel worthy of her love and affection, and I certainly didn't feel happy. I think her death was God's way of saying: "hey man, wake up. You deserve more and you deserve better." I think I even know who my soul mate is now. It's not the girl I'm currently dating, but I feel like I know.
And I know God used my gf's death as a wake up call in a way, because I have always had a habit of running from my problems, ignoring my feelings, etc, rather than facing and acknowledging them.
Sometimes God takes things from us because he knows what we truly need. My whole life I've felt misunderstood. And maybe it's crazy, but I genuinely believe this one celebrity is my soul mate. She doesn't know I exist, but I feel so understood by her in so many ways. We're both empaths and both struggle a lot with emotions and how to handle them. And she's also Christian and fits all the things I prayed for in whoever I was to marry when I was a teen.
This was really inspiring. And it actually helped me a bit in realizing that it's okay to love things in our life so long as it's not our priority. Thank you for sharing this.

Art is beauty, as it is a gateway into the spirit of an individual.

Like you, I’ve found myself wondering at what could have been, I’ve come to realize that ultimately it was for the best. Both because, like you, it led me towards God. And because that, along with it crashing down, helped me mature and get my head on straight.

Alot of things you said in this video really made me reflect on myself, because I kinda want to make a machinima either individually or an actual series and I am a Christian too, but what really got to me was when you were talking about the obsession you had for making Crash and it made me realize my own experience with wanting to make a machinima. A few months ago i finally got a capture card for recording long videos on my console and i was really discouraged when i played the recording back only to get extremely bad frame rate on the recording although i was doing this with a very old laptop so that may have been the reason but it wasn't just that, apparently the my mic didn't pick up on the recording then i was really had my motivation start to deplete and then i took a break from dealing with the problem on the capture card, among other things. i'm not gonne type everything i felt about this video though, this comment is already long-winded enough. Wow
I commented earlier on Episode 1 but looking at this now paints a greater picture than I was expecting. As a believer in Jesus Christ and an aspiring creator your testimony was very much needed.
I saw Red Vs Blue the first time about 6 years ago and also enjoyed it. Seeing a bunch of dysfunctional morons slowly develop a stronger bond than what any professional squad could will always make the show something special to me.
I have struggled (and still) with putting idols before God. But my case is a bit different. The things I want most I actually barely spend time on and instead pursue quicker, more immediate pleasures than the things I truly want. I want my desire for storytelling and voice acting to be used for God's glory, not my own.
Watching this video after seeing Episode 1 of CRASH feels a bit strange. I suppose God has led you back to this series in some way since making this video? If so I hope that what you said here will not be forgotten and that you're still putting God first.
It would seem me joining your Patreon was a better decision than I initially realized. May The Lord bless you going forward brother in Christ.

I had to take a long time and introspect. I realized that making this video and leaving Crash originally was absolutely the right thing to do. The year after I posted lost my best friend Max, who died in a skateboarding accident. We hosted a Bible study with him for over a decade and it was devastating. In the season of greif I was talking with the most mature people I know and much to my surprise -each of them pushed me gently to reconsider working on Crash again. I felt (and still do feel) that I did the right thing by leaving, but through those people, I am fully convinced that God was telling me: "Yes, you were right to leave. But with all that you've been through do you have a good excuse not to try again?" and even though I was very scared, I had faith that even if I did make a mistake and idolize it -there was still Grace for my mistakes. I could always pick myself back up and try again. God forgives and he doesnt just wave away our mistakes -He loves us and helps us every single step. What I realized then was I cannot make CRASH without obsessing unless I have God's help. I NEED to rely on God to make this work. And once I leaned on Him fully things started coming together in a way I never could have dreamed of. Now making Crash is an exercise of loving God and not just running from mistakes but learning from them. I may make a follow up to this video but I hope this helps you and asnwers your question.

Amazing testimony. I always used video games and videos and things to fill empty time rather than focusing on God or anything productive. I recently picked up a couple of hobbies, and one of them is music production. Not only has it helped me see just much time we really waste on entertainment, but it's also so much more fulfilling and enjoyable, to the point where I don't play games very often anymore and don't really miss thim either. On top of all that, the creative exercise of it is amazing, though frustrating at times, and I image writting and producing machinemas are similar. I loved Red vs Blue so much and hated seeing the latter seasons suck so bad, and now that most shows and movies these days are either in opposition to Christianity or just staright trash, it'll be nice to see a more nostalgic show to take me back to when I rewatched RvB while sitting in the Zoom calls of online school.
Praise God and best of luck to you!

This video feels like God is talking to me because I also want to make a web-series, but now I realize that maybe I'm obsessing over it. Thank you for making this. (Side note: I still want to make the series, but I'll devote more of my time to God instead of it.)

Here's something that I learned that heavily impacted my process working through this. I knew deep down what I wanted to make, but I realized that my desperate need for glory and approval was hijacking my dream. So CRASH wasn't the problem -I was. Once I realized that I could never find that glory and approval in Crash but only in Christ, I was suddenly unshackled from my idolatry. I was eventually able to pick it back up free from those chains and I could enjoy it for what it was without making something it was never meant to be -namely a source of identity and security. Crash is SUCH a blessing but it becomes a curse if I set my heart on it. Saint Augustine said that our problem is NOT that we love things, it's that we love the wrong things TOO MUCH. You don't need to love your projects less, you need to love God more. So focus on Him because He's worth it and He's good and He's what you need.

My dude.... If you make something truly precious and enjoyable and something that people love they will wait If you need time to take a break to get your emotions and get your priorities in check take your time just let people know That's all you need to do a good example is zidsie Pop That's a mispronunciation or misspelling but I don't know how to spell her name but anyways people have been waiting years for has been hotel to come out and we're still waiting but we're okay with that we don't mind so if you need to take time take time okay Also the first episode was great really enjoyed it made me really nostalgic keep doing amazing work

I feel like God gave us the drive to achieve more than we are as a single human. Without that drive we wouldn’t have achieved society, medical and technological advancements, all the confronts of modern life. This all makes us happy and heavily improves the lives of everyone, and in the end I feel like god wants us to be happy.
Granted, I am fully atheist. But I feel like weather you view it from a higher power or just the goal one should strive to achieve in their life, it should be to be happy, give back to this world as much as you can, be kind to others and strongly encourage them to do the same.
Potentially getting famous to any degree would make any parent proud, as long as it doesn’t (pardon my French) make you into a dick. There are plenty of famous or rich people that dedicate tons of time and money into ensuring fans are happy or donating to those in need or to causes that will improve the lives of those that need it.
And if god is all of our father, he’d be proud of us gaining any kind of wealth or fame, as long as we always stay kind and spread happiness and help where we can.
Don’t feel guilty. Be proud. And god should be proud of his child’s achievement. And don’t put too much merit on how successful it can be. It may just end up with a small following. But that is a small group of people that gained happiness from something you made. You helped to improve people’s lives in some way, no matter how few. And that is something god would want.

I am technically LDS, though i don’t agree with many of the people in my religion. I believe that god loves us all, that Jesus sacrificed himself for us, but I don’t agree with how a lot of my peers in the church on what we can and can’t do. I believe it is a choice given upon us. We decide what we believe, who we trust, how we act. God himself gave us free will for a reason. I sometimes feel my own religion members have forgotten this. They are sometimes obsessed over “no tattoos” to the point of coming across as shunning and judging those who have them. I understand not wanting to do it, and not believing it true. But I sometimes feel that they can be judging others, but then try and say they aren’t. I k ow we are human and will mess up, we will sometimes someway judge people, but the fact that they deny it is what causes problems. I am just happy when people will recognize their problems. At least admit it. I know I have issues too, maybe not all of them, but I work to always be able to at least recognize it. So, I’m extremely happy that you realized an issue, and honestly more so impressed that you took care of it. I applaud you, and give mad respect. Also, I know some people think we are not Christian’s, technically we are, but I actually have mad respect for other beliefs and attempt to try to understand. In fact I had a friend who was Southern Baptist, he made me quote a verse of the Bible any time I did some joke that was extremely wrong in some ways. I still remember the verse, and quote. I especially remember the fun we all had, those were some of my best moments in life. I hope he’s been well, and wish the best for him. Just as I hope the best for you sir. Not to mention CRASH is amazing so far I have so much belief and hope for it to go well. All the support I can give haha.

I hope this doesn't come off as weird or disrespectful, but what denomination do you follow? I find people with faith in God yet balance in their life insanely more interesting than people who bring up God and Jesus in every convo. Wendigoon comes to mind, as well as a real life friend I know and cherish. Anyways, very beautiful video, I truly appreciate this. I hope I can find God myself one day, though the path I'm walking is so very murky.

Idk maybe i just dont understand it in the same way. I get that without moderation anything you do can be problematic to your life. But i dont think it was the intent to gain glory or famous but it was done based off a desire to create. And to create something that people enjoy.

The original version of Crash released in 2021 is so different from the version I just released. It was absolutly a product of me craving validation and acceptance -which is why it wasn't good for me or even that good of an episode tbh. But now Im starting over. This new episode is not made for pleasing people but just because I want to and love to make it.

I know this video is old, but if you need a new cast you might find a few willing to offer their time, even if unpaid.
I think about the content made by Christian teams, Veggie Tales, and what they've become over the years.
Currently I try to get motivated to record gameplay and upload that. I also want to make a video game. But unfortunately I'm alone in my interests.
I know I need to give God my time. I have a dad who did a lot of research and went through a lot to have as much understanding of what God wants us to be and how to be a follower of his Son.
I'm curious as to the reason you've decided to upload the old episodes again. Though I never saw them on the old channel I discovered them through a video's comments on what's happening to RvB on youtube.
I remember a series that was on youtube, still is, called Spriggs. This dates back during the Halo 3 days.

Seeing an upstart creator who is open about sharing his struggles to help other people through the medium of Halo machinima is mind-blowing to me and makes me really excited to see what you do moving forward. I am also a Christian and when the announcement of a new RvB season came out I went down this little rabbit hole of rewatching and kind of studying what made that series so successful. Then I ran into this channel. I enjoyed RvB too, but seeing someone with your level of humility and such a strong base of who you are before you go into this really shows some promise. I wish all the luck to you that this takes off to rival the old greats, but this video right here is the most important one of all. Best of luck to you soldier🫡
