The Warrior Witches book looks amazing! All right--I've rounded all these books up with a 'scotember' tag on Storygraph, in case anyone wants to see the reviews and buy links in one place! Yayyyy! (I may have to submit a Blackwell's order now.... 😅)
Thank you for making these two videos! I love Scottish lit and the Scots despite not having been to Scotland (one day! autism can suck sometimes) and being born and bred in England (I don't like us either haha). Found some new recs here, keep up the great work!
It was good to see Ali Smith and Kathleen Jamie on your previous video. My favourites that haven’t got a mention yet are AL Kennedy and Janice Galloway. And a wonderful novel that takes place on the highland roads in Michel Faber’s Under the Skin - highly recommended!
I loved Borges and Me. I read it after you mentioned it last year and it ended up on my top nonfiction reads of the year. I just read The Children of Rookskill Castle (middle grade) and it is dark and brooding.
I remember you loved Borges and Me! Found a new Borges-ish book at my local used bookstore "borges and the eternal orangutans" :) Haven't heard of The children of Rookskill Castle, but I'll look into it!
Want something dark, Gothic and atmospheric? I'd recommend O Caledonia by Elspeth Barker about a girl growing up in a dysfunctional family in their dilapidated Scottish castle and later on at an unwelcoming boarding school.
Ooh! I wonder if Highland Lodge Getaway has a different American title, since I'm not seeing it in the Bookshop catalogue...and her website is currently down. Bother! Will come back to it. Onward!

Aw I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed the videos! You can travel to Scotland with literature it's okay :) let me know if you have any good recs too!
So many great recommendations! I still haven’t read a Libby Page, so I may try one of those soon! Thanks for making us aware of this readathon 🥰📚
Libby Page is a good vibe if you're looking for something chill! I read The Lido last year and really enjoyed it!

@@MargaretPinard 🤣 yes and an evil sorceress!
Great selection! I read The Lighthouse Witches by C.K. Cooke which I loved! Also set in Scotland by a Scottish author
Oooh yes I have this title on my TBR but didn't realise it was Scottish!
👏👏👏👏👏 Yay! Excited to hear these!!!!
Yay for a Scotland readathon!

Ah! I found it--it's not out in the US until Oct 2, 2023, so the ONE title we can't get for the readathon. Thanks, Camila! :PPP
ooooh noo hahaha it was one of her latest titles so it makes sense 😳😂
I've had Diary of a Bookseller on my wishlist for ages...this could be my excuse... ;D
