Hi. I’m a new subscriber over from A Book Olive’s channel. I had not heard of Burns day before, so thanks for enlightening me. I’ll be adding several of these books to my TBR.
So great to find your channel, thanks to Olive! We have Robbie Burns parties here in Canada too. They are so much fun. Lots of great "new to me" books on this list. Looking forward to more of your videos. 😊💙
Thanks for coming along to my channel! :) I hadn't known about all the Scottish stuff in Canada until I moved here and then visited Canada and spotted it everywhere! Attended a Burns party in Toronto a few years back, so fun!
How fun!! What a great list! I've heard of many, but not all, and only read a few--I know what my homework is before a next Burns supper may be celebrated!
This is a fantastic video, Camilla! I have put in my liked videos to refer back to! I love the Shetland series (both book and tv) and I really enjoyed Miss Brodie (& the film with a young Maggie Smith). I really want to try Ian Rankin and The Bass Rock and the historical fiction you mentioned by Sarah Maine sounds really interesting. I have checked my library and they have her books! Yay! Scotland is such a great setting for fiction! 😊📚
Aw thanks Nikki! Yes, my list could have been so much longer haha but this is a good start! I enjoy spreading the Scottish joy! Oh hope you enjoy Sarah Maine! Can't wait to hear what you thought about any of them :)
Hi Camila! Great Titles Mentioned Here !!! I think I would LOVE them all. I have Kristy Logan's The Grace Keepers on my shelf - Perhaps it is time to read it! I have loved all the Botany Style books I have read lately - Cannot wait to check out the one you mentioned! I look forward to catching up with your previous videos. Happy 2022!
Oh that's an exciting trip ahead of you! If you visit the city I'd recommend one of the historical or crime fiction, but worth a wander into nature writing if you plan on heading into the isles and Highlands :)
Happy belated Burns Night! The celebrations sound really fun - I hope you can resume them again one day soon. This is a great list - I'm especially drawn to the nature ones!
The nature in writing from Scotland is, understandably, so good! Big recommend! Also I've lost track of your comment on French books, but here are my belated recommendations :) I'd look up Amélie Nothomb, her books are short and her writing accessible, I'd also recommend Kim Thuy, a Vietnamese/Quebec writer :) And short novellas by Gabrielle Roy
Hello, Olive sent me. Which is quite funny in a way, as I used to live near Carlisle and now reside in North Wales. Love Ann Cleeves & Ian Rankin. As for whiskey galore and Miss Jean Brodie I love the films and the books
Hi Mary! Thanks for coming along! Aw so nice to get in contact with people who live in the UK and closer to where I am! They are such great writers! Glad you enjoyed them!
@@hasteyebooks I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE EXTERMINATING MANUSCRIPT BY GEMA CLOUDS A group of young folks decides to make their first vacation in the last year of college school, but they need money so resolve to simulate a kidnap. A fantastic modern unique epic tale.
I'll be directing people here for some of my favorite recommendations for Scottish books--I'm hosting 'Scot-ember' next month! If you've got newer recs, bring it on! 🤗💗🥳
Hi , I am your greatest fan. May God helps you live a harmonious & prosperous life. Could you please review the book 'The collection of short stories' written by Mr. O. Subramanian. I thought it is a nice one to read. It's is entirely based on the real life experiences of an ordinary man.
Another sub from Olive. My family is Manx so loving the Scottish recommendations!
Ah lovely - Celtic cousin! (not that I'm technically Scottish haha)

The nonfiction and historicals are exactly the catnip for meeeeee, since I write Scottish historical fiction! Great list, thank you, Camila!
I still need to pick one of your books up! I absolutely love historical fiction set in Scotland!! Do you think I should start with The Keening?
@@hasteyebooks yes, that would be the first in the Scottish series, so have at it! 🤗🙏🏽🤗

The St Kilda book reminds me of one I liked that was a bit offbeat...whose title I can't quite recall...BRB! :P
Island of Wings by Karin Altenburg! Ha, phew!
@@MargaretPinard Oh just looked it up! I love stories about St Kilda, it was such an interesting culture that has sadly disappeared. Adding to my TBR!

😂perfect! I'm zero % scottish probably but it's a good place to start 😂
Whiskey galore was based on a true story.
