    Benny Parsons was one of the most genuine people, not just in NASCAR, but as a person. I used to go to Daytona a lot growing up and I saw him after the 2003 Pepsi 400 that biffle won, and for some reason I never asked for his autograph or picture, but instead I stopped him to ask him questions, and he answered all my stupid questions. Now I work as a crew member in the sport and I think just how great this guy really was because there are a lot of negative people who work in our garage area. It's people like him that made me realize how to treat others when you're somewhat of a public figure.

      NASCAR really started going to shit in 2007. Not wHeN dAeL diEd and no not bc the COT
      When we lost BP, we all lost him and have lost our way since.
      Had he lived longer, I'm sure he would've put everyone back in their place: from the teams' bullshit, the lack-of-respect problems, even the sanctioning body itself. But most of all, the shitty ass fandom here!

    I think NBC Sports did a good job covering NASCAR. From 2002-2006, NBC Sports went small ball with a lot of sports. No NFL, MLB or NBA. Mostly tennis, golf, Norte Dame football, horse racing and their crown jewels NASCAR and The Olympics (every two years). This race aired during the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah. Great race.

    It's 2019 now, and this remains one of my favorite races ever. Not just because my favorite driver Ward won, but because the race contenders had plenty of entertaining personality. You had Ward Burton, the nice guy with an extreme Southern accent. You had Sterling Marlin, a guy who always told a great story and enjoyed being funny (even when they interviewed him after this race, he was all smiles and making light of himself trying to pull the fender). You also had Elliott Sadler as runner-up, and he has a fun personality at times.

This was also at the height of the hatred for Jeff Gordon. Which came out of nowhere and still today I am baffled why people hated him. The cheer when he spun out was so loud it made me mad watching back in high school because I was the only Jeff Gordon fan I knew lol.

    Personally I would love to have NBC and FOX rotate the Daytona 500 like they did from 2001 to 2006. I get tired of FOX doing it every year.

    This race had so many heavy contenders go by the wayside randomly. First Tony, then Dale. If Robby Gordon didn't wreck with 9 to go, Jeff would have probably won.

      It’s crazy how that butterfly effect works. If they had stopped racing back to the caution back and changed that rule then he probably would’ve won.

    Such a memorable race. One thought burns in my mind though. Where can I find that opening theme? They used the same music in the intro for the 2004 500; can't find the theme music anywhere though.

    The 2001 500 was the best I have ever seen, for obvious reasons it was the saddest.........but tge racing was insane that day.... I personally think the wicker on the roof of the cars allowed it to punch a bigger hole in the air

    • @zanemarte9877
      @zanemarte9877 3 года назад +1

      Agree the racing for that 500 was awesome, but at the cost of someone's life. The safety concerns were the reason why they took that 2001 superspeedway package off the cars, but yet little did we know that 20 years later they would have a superspeedway package very similar to 2001.

    I miss those days, when they go to commercial. Then the wreck happened, they cut the commercial ASAP. when the wreck is still happening. Now, you never know what's happening during commercial. Even if there was a wreck happened. And had to wait the full commercial to be over(for example, the most recent ARCA race at Talladega, the 2017 General Tire 200). Another thing, I wish is the broadcast do more side-by-side, commercial-race coverages. Almost all race long. Except under caution.
