The reason for that may be because he himself dedicates this song to one of his dogs that died and his dogs are like children to him, the complete explanation is in the comments of the original video which Andrew is watching here.

Andrew, I'm stoked to see that you finally got to Matt Halpern! He's one of my favorite drummers. I actually met him at a VIP Meet & Greet once; we chatted, he signed a drum head of mine, and took a photo. He wrote "The more you move, the more you groove" on the drum head. :D Some other playthroughs he's done that are worth making videos about are: Marigold, 22 Faces, Psychosphere, Garden in the Bones, Reptile, The Way the News Goes, CHVRCH BVRNER, and Prayer Position. He's so fluid, and playing is effortless for him.
I read in an interview that the emotion of this song got to Matt because he lost one of his dogs prior to recording this album. And what I read is that he was crying while recording this song which makes it so much more emotional for me to hear that. I always admired Periphery and Matt especially for his kind of musicalitiy that he brings to their songs. I still use his signature sticks to this day because they feel so nice to play. They are basically 2B with a feeling of 5B.
Man I love periphery, I love this song and Matt Halpern is a huge inspiration to my playing. He does a live playthrough of a song called The Way News Goes and it is phenomenal. Would love to see you check that out.
Matt like myself is a huge dog lover, and I read somewhere a while ago that he lost one of his beautiful dogs around the time of recording Lune and that's where the massive emotion comes from when he plays this song.
He's definitely very fluid with his motions and some of the poly rhythms he plays in their other songs are so good! If you want more and to see another side of his performing that has a bit more intensity I would check out his plahthrough of their song 22 faces!
Sir Andrew. I believe Matt and the band's bassist, Nolly, made a series of videos for drummers teaching how they tune and mic up drums for recording. It's really, really well done and very comprehensive.

First time I saw them live, I really loved his presence! He's said in interviews he likes to improvise his fills. Which can be a bit surprising in such a busy and scripted genre. He was in his small kit phase. Kick, snare, floor!! No toms!
Hell yeeeaaahhh!! Matt is seriously aaamazing... On top of that for recording and these kind of playthrough's their bassist but now is just their recording bassist Nolly works with Matt to get his sound crisp and perfect
Im glad this was the song pick for Matt. It's not over the top flashy drumming, but intricate in a solid groove fashion. He's super tasteful with his fills. This visual flow of his technique filters through and brings out great attack and tone in his cymbals/ drums...and yeah, he's a big dude--I wanna say he's in the ~6'2-4 range.
