Dont worry Jay Som, of Montreal, Pedro the Lion ought to be able to cheer you up. And you can't cry when KEXP did their regular old normal unbelievably amazing job this sounds fantastic!
His drums and drumming sound amazing yes. Their was a pretty good interview with him and he describes what he likes to play as far as drums and cymbals go. Makes me want to go out and buy the same set up haha .
for sure it is. Awesome drummer ! On the first groove he is playing an 15/16 time signature (i guess..). Weird stuff, but he makes it sound very natural. seems like he missed some notes, though.
JP Connolly haha its the first time I do this AND the first time I listen to american football, but I loved the first two songs and wanted to listen to the others later so 🤷🏻♂️
Stay home is the best American Football song. I used to love Never Meant, but I think Stay Home perfectly expresses what American Football attempts to convey to its audience; the facts of life, the melancholy nature of it, and finally acceptance of the order and chaos of the various interactions and experiences that people have and make with each other.
Hope you always think of me when you listen to this... we used to enjoy it so much together and now I can't listen to American Football without traveling to your warm hugs in my mind. I will always love you. MBM.🖤
Main guitar: the "I went to through a rough patch but now I'm clean" dad 2nd guitar: the "I have 3 daughters and no son" dad Bass: the "I never married but I'm cool with my kids" dad Drums: the classic american dad, who just happens to play the drums too Vibraphone: The "I became a father at 16" dad Keyboards: the "I think my girlfriend's pregnant" dad
What really surprised me a lot is instrumental part of their music. It's so ahead of a time. I really love so much their mathematical riffs. At first I was thinking: ok, that sounds very damn nice but how on earth is possible to put the vocals on this? And then the vocals came in and I was like: "my goodness, this is what perfection sounds like".
I kid you not. One of my life's best days was when I (from Sweden) met Mike Kinsella walking around in London that rainy day in early 2017. It was so fucking cold but there we were. Owen has been like the brother I never had growing up. Such a highlight to meet him. Met Nate in Oslo when he played with TTNG. Incredible grateful for their contributions to my life. Much obliged.
That LED curtain is just gorgeous. So vibey. I bet it even helps the performers in their delivery. Thank you KEXP. Oh yeah, and American Football were pretty good too! 😜
I don’t know if I’m depressed or sad, but I enjoy these songs and the few people I’ve shown them to think the music is too sad or put their earbuds in in the truck. Then again, I have a thing for emotionally intense or sad music. I think it’s good music for any mood. It just sounds so good. I haven’t heard any happy music that moves me so much.
Dear KEXP, please stop finding new music for me to like I have 5 kids and a wife to support! (In case the sarcasm is missed, please DO NOT stop doing what you guys do! ) With much love from the UK
Stay Home + The One With The Wurtlizer, the two closing tracks from American Football's glorious self-titled debut album. Finally! This session has been uploaded, and it's cool. I still dream of seeing these fellas Someday. But they don't seem to make it to Mexico City anytime soon.
saw them live yesterday and i thought i would only get emotional on the last few songs of the set(stay home in particular). Ended up crying on silhouettes(first song of the set) on the “i’m a cloud” bit. My favorite band OAT and i don’t think anything can change that at this point
I'm in the midst of looking for inspiration for one of my band's new song's bassline, and for some reason since I heard the track I thought of American Football as the vibe I want it to take. Hearing the interview part of this performance and hearing Mike say that their bassist can hear and think of their songs in a way he wouldn't have thought of (colours) hit a nerve :) Had never heard an interview with them, nor a full live show for that matter, only to their records but hearing him say that and Nate's reaction to that comment made me feel "right" about thinking of this band for the song we're working on
Love this sound!! You done it again KEXP!! Like WKNC, NC State University Radio Here in Raleigh, NC that introduced me to Indie, KEXP has introduced me to more genres that I have never heard & now love!
The first 3.15 minutes are mind-boggling. The tension is high and is dissolved by the bass line that make me crazy. The rest of the show is great. Welcome back American Football, you are geniuses!
going to cry to this all day thanks

HAHA

lol
Christ you nailed their whole sound with this sentence
LP1 = sad about breaking up with your girlfriend
LP2 = sad about being old
LP3 = sad about getting divorced
I hope they know that their music still appeals to Midwest college students. Watching this instead of studying for finals
You made a sound decision. Priorities.
