9:19 I think this shows the cause of their mother killing them. From left to right, messy eating, kissing a frog, unknown(but im guessing from getting hurt), getting his clothes dirty. There's also clues in what greatly triggers her anger such as messy eating, the frog, the child getting blood in the house, and finally the clothes getting dirty.

I was looking for a comment like this to find out how they all died. Thank you!
theres also the 5 apples in the bucket of water representing the 5 children she has drowned so far
The oldest child (unknown reason) has his shirt untucked, so maybe his reasoning was that he had his shirt untucked/his clothes disorganised.
good point, thanks!
I think mark saying "mommy" means he knew what was going to happen because most people (especially children) are at a loss for words when a traumatic event happens and the fact that mark said mommy shows that he knew, probably because the ghosts of the other kids told him.
Maybe the childrens are her children...and also killed them , so thats why they said "they were home ....
That's what I thought after she buried him. It would also explain what they had said about their sister dying after she kissed a frog; the mother for sure would have flipped.
and if u look there were 4 children then after she drowned him there were 5 apples floating in the bin
Plus at the end you hear him humming the same song he had sang before & the children's laugher is heard

This is a good take. 👀
I only just realized that when she says “I’ll make you a ghost” it’s foreshadowing.

Brilliant
This was brilliant story telling and metaphors. The use of representation of the other children being his lost siblings so close but so out of reach for him. The fact that they clearly made the twist clear and hardly up to interpretation was something I can appreciate. I find a lot of short horror is left up to interpretation, which is fine. But having a clear cut twist is refreshing.
Agreed!
Wait I don’t get it
My take on this was what everyone else’s was but I was surprised nobody talked about what bobbin for apples also means in Druid history. When you cut open an Apple it has a pentagon(in a sense) and they use to do “bobbing” for apples in a ritualistic way where during Halloween they sacrificed people. I don’t recall what for but it seems the same way in this story. She must’ve killed each kid near Halloween as a sacrifice, but also because their dirty? If you notice on the calendar there’s a cut open Apple where you can see the seeds. 5 seeds. 5 children murdered. Idk the correlation but I found it interesting.
I think she killed the boy because he found out what his mother had done to his siblings. That's why he didn't say much when he came home.. And also the apples that are in the bowl or whatever represent five kids being murdered in the bathtub.. It really scared me! It was brilliant
Oh thx for info. I was confuse what up with the apple bucket
Thnx for telling us I was so confused
Glad someone understood and explained, but this explanation makes tons of sense, thanks
I was half way to that conclusion, like those other children were once hers but being such a clean freak she couldn't stand the sight of dirt and the mailman was probably the father.

this film reminds alot about a person who has OCD and deep rooted trauma and someone who is always paranoid and overprotective.
Yes I taught of this
"The mom had suffered a disorder called "Obsessive-Compulsive" (Fear of dirts, germs) when it was a year ago when she gave birth to 4 kids but when she had a argument with a husband and they divorced she end up killing her own children and ends up giving birth to a one boy, at outside the mom told her son to don't go near them but doesn't wanna tell him that that was her son's siblings who passed a year ago."
And yes- parents kills their own child.
The part I just realized is that when he was in the bath, he was afraid of her because the children told him what she did.

Hahaha it dawned on me after watching the whole thing. Obviously kissing a frog is very dirty so the daughter just had to go 😂
@@thelads-sd4108 At the end, the mother saw her child was just too ... dirty. So she employed an orthodox method to fix it (I’m hyping this up way too much, she basically drowned him in the bathtub and buried him in the garden). What the person was trying to say was that the frog was dirty, the sister kissed it, so the mother just had to get rid of her.

Very effective atmosphere for this one, the claustrophobic but sheltering aspect of the house, the almost agoraphobic behavior of the mother, and the camera angles all played well into telling the story. This was something Sterling-esque, a dread hanging over the whole scene. You had a sense that something terrible was about to happen, then were given the notion that something terrible had already happened, and this was just a repeat. Great perfromances by all involved, especially the young people. Special props to Luke Walford for an effective portrayal of the doomed boy. Thanks for sharing this amazing work.

KAY SO HERES MY THEORY:
all the children or 'childer' once were the mother's children who she all killed because they were 'dirty.' You can find out how one of the children dies because of the quote, 'my sister kissed a frog once, she's dead now.' this implies that one of the children was killed by the mother after kissing a frog. (i found this out because there were the same amount of children as the number of cabbages in the cabbage patch, and because of the quote, 'Go home. We are home,' and 'It's nearly November, why aren't they dead yet?') when the boy was playing with those same children, they told him what his mother had done to them, which is why he didn't say much of anything once he got home, one the mother realized that he knew, she had to drown him. afterwards, when the woman steps outside, you can hear a quiet humming, which i think was the little boy, who had after his death, had joined the childer. If u have anything to add please leave a comment and tell me what you think of this theory!
Edit: So also i have something else to add. i think that the bit where she says 'I'll make u a ghost,' was foreshadowing to when she kills him. so ya not really much of stuff we dont know but i'd figure i'd put it out there
Perfectly explained ❤️❤️
That explains why the "childer" were dirty because she killed them because that were dirty
The cabbage seed at the end of the movie could imply that she has another child on the way
so there is both ghosts and she is a murderer..? damn
Only issue with the theory, while as sound as it is, is where does she get the children from to begin with. The postman or adoption? May be that she is in limbo haunted by her past life. This would explain the constant greenery appearing, the children coming to haunt her, the postman (possibly the father) coming back, and overwhelming ocd. Constant ocd could mean that she neglected her family, health and passed away. She relives this constant limbo as a reminder to what she neglected in life.

Horror directors everywhere, this is how you do horror right! Don't rely on cheap jumpscares to startle the audience, but use genuine, unsettling elements to lend the whole work an air of suspense and dread.
While we love a good jumpscare, they're not really our thing.

@@IcyLife3956 it's like spoilers but they foreshadowed it in the past
@@IcyLife3956 How is your name William Shakespeare and you don't know one of the most well known story mechanics out there?
To answer your question - it's subtle hints to an eventual outcome that don't seem as significant as they are when you hear it the first time. So the mom saying "I'll make you a ghost" is a hint that she will eventually actually make him a ghost, by killing him; it seems obvious in retrospect, but in the moment you hear it, it is not obvious.

What?
Actually, we learned in psychology class that the obsession of dirt and dust is mostly linked to a fear of sex that is seen as something disgusting..that would explain how the mother treats the mailman when he attempts to flirt, and also the metaphor of cabbages (a tale often told to children when they ask about sex, to cover the reality). It's like this mother still sees it as something shameful. Her children (the dead ones and the one alive) are accepted because they came in a "clean, innocent " way : from cabbages. And when she kills the last one, she plants a new cabbage to get a new kid but the boy won't let her, it's like : "you killed enough mum, this gotta stop".
Dunno if im going too far?

@@noneofyourbusiness302 Well I can say that even though it seems most people think the "childer" were her kids, I think that's highly doubtful. One thing in particular that I think adds to what you said is the scene where Mark eats the snack. You'll notice his snack is phallic-shaped and is protruding into an egg, a pretty obvious symbol for intercourse/childbirth. The mother looks on disgusted and keeps telling Mark how messy it is, and then when there's a little spill, freaks out.

And this is why I personally believe that not all people have the mental and emotional capacity to be a parent. If you're not mentally or financially doing well, don't have kids.. you're just making their life as miserable as yours. It's 100% your responsibility and they're not indebted to you by any means that they were born.. It's not even their choice in the first place.

Mom: Don't go near the children in the forest, they're dirty
Me: Yes, that's what's worrying about the Children in the Forest
😂😂 same
In stead of saying they will prolly kill you xD
this made me cackle
That made me laugh.
😂😂😂😂
I know this is a horror film, but with her obsessive cleaning, it makes me think of how awful OCD can be, in it's own way it can truly be a prison.
Great film. ❤
The boy: "look I lost a tooth!" :D
He seemed so happy it was to wholesome- 😊

She didn’t drown him
Lmao yes
Amy :P yes she did, she both strangled and drowned him
Cadera 美学 Wow, that makes loads of sense. She stuck his head underwater and he was still able to shout.
It shows 5 apples bobbing in the water, I'm gonna assume that each one represents one of the children she drowned 🤷♀️
you are right. Same with the number of cabbages.
@@JamesParker1998 ohhh cool cool
Its so cool tho remember when that teen kid say "my sisyer once kiss a frog and now she's dead" maybe its one of them and her mom (wich is this mom) killed her
@@doki1641 yeah I picked up on that, because she was a clean freak and would definitely have a fit if one of her kids kissed a FROG 😅
That’s a good theory
I feel like this kind of covers ocd as in the obsession of cleaning and makeing sure everything is perfect and prestine, You can see how she easily gets anxious over the smallest things. And when she yelled at her kid she soon realized what she was doing, but at the same time she feels like she can’t control it.
