  • The Solstice wasn't enough to save Pontiac or Saturn. Could it have saved Saab by being the Sonett 4? Possibly, but we will never know.

    The Kappa jack points & lift points are two separate things. The jack points are used to temporarily lift the car, for changing a flat tire, etc. Folks also buy BMW lift pucks, or make them out of hockey pucks and eyebolts to fit in the oval holes near the rocker panels mentioned in the video. The lift points are used when you have to lift the entire car. Most mechanics don't know the difference and it why you see so many Kappa with crushed front fenders.

    I'm, bored soooooooo......Only twenty 2010-spec Solstices were made (only 8 being roadsters) and yellow was not a 2010 color. Therefore this is not a 2010. Maybe a late 2009 as the twenty 2010 specs were oddly made before the remaining 2009s where finished . The GXP was not just the base 2.4L with a turbo, it was a different motor (2.0L turbo) . 4th version of this car was the Daewoo G2X (Asian market only I think), Kapps would not necessarily fold up like a pretzel with more power, see the Mallet version or Tauro Sport Auto V8 Spider (both V8s). Or see all the tuned turbos out there chasing Porsches. Traction control button should be up by tach. The turbo-only Saab variant you were hoping for was exactly what the Opel GT was in Europe. Finally, if it is anemic, go review a GXP (or a Sky Redline), you'll be glad you did :-)

    You should have read a little bit before you review a car, traction control can be turned off by a button just to the right of the steering wheel, the car has perfect 50-50 weight distribution, and it is not an anemic performer!

    I ended up having to get a Sky Redline after I totaled my 9-3 Aero Convertible and spent more than 3 months looking for another one just like it. Unfortunately people just don't like to sell their Saabs and I couldn't wait any longer for transportation. The Sky would be a really great vehicle if you have never driven a Saab.
    The European model was the Opel GT and was probably the best looking out of the 3 but they all looked great. They say the Sky Redline is a baby Corvette, after all you can fit a LS motor in it.

    Anyone notice how after driving the car he started coming around to the fact that it's a fun little car? It's well balanced and with the five speed is a very engaging car. It's built like a body on frame, it's not really unibody. I'm not sure that car had traction control. I think only the GXP offered it. If it had it, there would be a disengage button to the right of the dimmer knob. This car was represented at the track. It's just that it wasn't in production very long.
    Oh and come to think of it, they had 7000 pre-orders before the car was even in production. I think that's where the 7000 number came from.

    GM never had a problem lifting my Kappa platofrm cars, either my 2007 or 2008 Solstice GXP, when doing it per the required TSB. Looks to me like that car has been lifted improperly often and has the crushed rockers and fenders to show for it; hopefully you didn't contribute to that. If the lift arms contact the body as has been done in the past with that car, then _yes, of course_ the car will be unsteady on the lift. I suspect this was your problem re: lifting that car. Please be careful. BMW lifting pucks have been used to assist the factory lifting process by Kappa owners since they were new. The top was probably messed with; it's a used car and the tops are bizarre in construction; not every Kappa top fits every Kappa. The Kappa features a strong channel backbone, which is why the area between the seats is a bit strange. The lateral grip is good, but the Kappa is actually notorious for not having enough tire. The problem with performance and a Kappa is not bhp capability, it's contact patch. Solstices have had LS7 conversions quite nicely. Solstice production was 65,724 units, not about 7000 (does not include Sky and Sky Redline production), and ultimately a Solstice could roll out of the factory with 290 bhp and 340 lb-ft, with a full warranty. The Pontiac Solstice raced SCCA-SSB competition. Cars is an automatic; the NACA duct is functional on manual trans GXPs. I have never owned an NA Solstice so I can't comment on that. Both My GXPs (with and without the GMPP turbo upgrade) could overpower the T/C, wet or dry. The traction control nannies can be turned off via button on the dash.

  • @scott4825
    @scott4825 2 года назад +1

    The GXP has a lot of power (260hp) and could be 'dealer' tuned to add another 30 or so (didn't even void warranty), making additional mods easier as well. So you get 300+hp without much work on a 2900 lb car. Short of it being an AWD, I don't see the use for more power than that. If you want a powerful engine without compromising anything, it's there. I believe it did very well when they raced SCCA.

    No way that's a 2010 because Pontiac went out of business that year... Ever since 2006 I kept researching the Base Model, 2007-2008 Turbo GXP & the 2009 GXP Coupe... I first purchased my 2008 Pontiac Solstice GXP at the young age of 33 back in 2008. I am part of Generation X and _not_ a baby boomer. This guy needs to research and not speculate before posting. I left a dislike!

    Thanks for showing the under belly of the car. I was considering this car, but NO MORE, and here's why, the finishing of the car is cheap throughout, it's just a fantasy look, with hardly anything else to show for it, from the convertible top, to the shell, and then to finally top it off, the no power whatsoever motor. Not impressed, there are other cars these days that have more to offer in the same price range as these, steel junk with a fancy look and big tires, to fool the eye, to all of its shortcomings. I was looking for more from it, now I'll pass on it.

      @@johncollins9989 I also can't understand the issue with the underside of the car....the GXP could have 290bhp and 340 ft-lbs with a full warranty, and standard was 260/260. My 2007 GXP off the showroom floor, put rubber down in gears 1 through 4. That's without the GMPP upgrade, which was not available at the time. This review is pretty flawed and anyone taking it for gospel is getting less than accurate info.

      @@bbb462cid I completely agree.. you cant get serious information from some shade tree mechanic that owns a couple beater cars on an old lot that hes trying to sell.. if ppl want real information about the cars, they need to go on solstice forums or kappa platform forums and you'll quickly find everything you need to know.. this guy did a crap review of an awesome car.. he didn't even put in the time or any effort in gathering information.. just memorizing the HP and torque ratings for a manual and auto is not real research... js
