Ok so again I apologize. My board actually started at 54%, the 78% was just a one time high. Anyway I plugged my 2.5.1 battery into the wall and let it charge 24/7. It took exactly 2 weeks and now it’s up to 100%! The two weeks must be written into the programming for balancing.
I apologize. My battery would only charge up to 54% initially after swapping to the 2.5.1 firmware. So far after one week in the charger it’s up to the 78% i was saying in the video. It’s on pace for the full 2 weeks at least to get to the 100%. I’ll update again next week.
Can verify this method works. It saved my XR that was stuck with RLOD. On day 2 of the 2 week battery charge, super stoked I was able to get the battery out of RLOD without having to spend hundreds of dollars to send it out to get fixed. Time will tell if this is a long term solution.
@CWBchannel yep alot of people have had great success with this method. You just have to let it charge for a few days or weeks depending on how bad your cells got. Just don't let it go under 20 percent and you should be good. I'm glad I could help. Now back to shreddin the gnar up da tilly tally
Thank you for the video really informative! So once I charge my 2.1.7 battery for 2 weeks would I have to repeat this process again? Also should I always keep it plugged in even if im not using it?
If anyone wants the battery update look up the XR general hospital. He’s pretty much a pro at this by now. He also fixes RLOD and installs the amnesia chip
Hey Bob, this video was really good and informative. I just got a board and my battery firmware is 2.5.1 but my firmware is 2.3.3. Any idea if it’s good or not for my firmware to be there?
I believe that’s the ESC on the Boosted Mini X? It’s not going to have a negative effect on the XR battery becoming unbalanced. The 2.5.1 gives a wider margins of unbalanced before triggering the RLOD. I just keep the battery plugged in. As for the benefits of the 2.3.3. I’ll dig into it.
Awesome info here, my friend! I have to xr batteries and have both the latest firmware! I just got done balancing one battery but didn’t know that I should have kept it going for another two weeks on green and now it’s balancing at 100 again. Should I disconnect it until it and wait for it to turn off so I can ride the other one? And then plug it in to finishing balancing at green for two weeks? Thanks Bob!
Hey Zach if you have the latest firmware 2.5.1 and it’s charging up to 100% then your all set. If it’s not charging up to the 100 then leave it charging till it does and it can take a couple of weeks. If you have the 2.1.7 firmware. That’s the one you want to leave on past the 100% to balance the cells and avoid the RLOD. Hope this keeps. Ty
hey nice video and thank you for your explaination! I still have two questions. How do I know when the cells are balanced and how often do I have to do that process of „charging 2 weeks“ for XR batteries? I have 2.1.7. so I am not golden :/
Thank you for watching my video and if it helps then I’m very happy. As for balancing the 2.1.7. I would start the 2 weeks ASAP, keep in mind you CAN ride it then put it back into charging. Without opening and testing there is no 100% way to know for sure. My plans for my 2.1.7 batteries is after the 2 weeks, I’m going to leave it on an extra hour each time i charge to maintain. Also when i have time I’ll leave it on here and there for longer. You can’t hurt it, it can’t be over charged. How this helps.
People online are saying you have to leave the board charging for 2 weeks for it to be balanced. Your saying it’s not going to hurt it if I still ride it every other day during the 2 weeks? Once I reach that 2 weeks I’ll continue to leave it plugged in when not riding , but why is it only safe when you reach 2 weeks once, doesn’t it technically get unbalanced every time you ride it. If you bring your board somewhere and need to charge it again multiple times in one day (so 1 hour on charger 3 times a day) would that be an example of how to unbalance it again?
Yes it takes on average two weeks for all the cells to balance. In some cases a bit more. You can ride it while the initial two week charge. What causes the imbalance is when it lights up green and unplugging the board right away, not necessarily riding it. If your having no issues now, just leave it plugged in whenever not riding and let the trickle charge don its thing. Also this greatly reduces the risk of RLOD, however it can still happen on any firmware number. However if that happens you have options. But bottom line I just leave my Board plugged in at all times and unplug when I ride. Enjoy
Yes that will get brighter. Most cases it takes 2 weeks for the balancing to complete. You can ride it still, in fact the draining and refilling is helpful. Just keep it plugged in when not riding.
It still could be a bad wire or connector after the box. You could try a new charger first before going to the battery. Did the battery light up at all when charging? Any colors of orange, red or green?
Another thing, the board is in the charger, the light is green, and the ride app shows 100, but all the dots are still showing. Is this normal, or should the indicator lights be off when it’s good?
All the lights staying on is normal. Firmware 2.1.7 is an issue where the 100% is reading from 1 cell. Doesn’t mean the rest are at full capacity. So when you unplug and charge continually the imbalance gets larger. Until it hits the threshold of shutdown known as RLOD. Just keep it on the charger and it will trickle up all the cells even.
so i have the 2.5.1, the ride app says my battery is fully charged to 100%. But the led on the battery is still red. Should I leave it plugged? Will it turn green after a couple of days
I have a question if I already had the red light of death and my software is 2.1.7 I bought a new extended range battery how do I make sure it’s updated to the latest firmware I use the app ride or will the battery already come with the latest firmware if it’s new
I didn’t look further into it but I did see there was a DIY to update the firmware on Reddit. That being said I bought 2 XR range brand new batteries from Boostedusa.com and they both have the 2.1.7. I just let them charger longer, beyond when it turns green. This way I ensure all cells get charged full and evenly. Once green it’s a trickle charge. As for the one that’s already RLOD, you can ship it to eboardstuff to install the amnesia chip and get out functioning again. Not to mention never worry about the RLOD on that better again.
I seen a DIY on Reddit but I never tried it. I currently own 2 batteries with the 2.1.9. I just leave them on the battery longer then the green light. If you’re concerned, leave it on the charger for 2 weeks. Can’t hurt it only help it. You can ride while on the 2 week charge.
I just got a new battery as my old one (2.1.7) got the RLOD. The new one is 2.5.1 and said 100% on first ride. Immediately dropped down to 1% after 10mins of riding. Plugged it in and is stuck on 14% do you think this will take 2 weeks or longer?
Yes that can happen with the 2.5.1. But the good news is it won’t or less likely to get the RLOD. It will most likely be the 2 weeks to get back to the 100. But when it starts getting higher percent, you can ride in between charging.
What about the standard battery ? Am I able to keep it on charge 24/7 just the the xr battery and do I have to worry about the red light on the standard battery ?
Are you saying you already have the RLOD? If do you most likely don’t have the 2.5.1 firmware and whichever firmware you do have will require the amnesia chip to repair. With that chip you will be able to reset it from future issues. I hope I understand your question correctly.
I’m not very familiar with the Rev batteries. I have heard of some issues with maybe not charging to the full 100% and you may need to run it to empty or zero percent so it can balance itself. But please don’t take my word as solid. First I’m never comfortable with running these batteries to completely empty and secondly again I’m not really familiar. Are you experiencing any issues with it? Do some digging and searching around the net for info. But be careful, lots of bad info out there.
@@bobfiore8 yes I’m experiencing this issue of the boosted rev charging only up to 50%. Thinking the BSM technology runs trough the same technology as the boosted boards. Crossing fingers letting it charge for 2 weeks.
I’m sorry I didn’t answer this. I thought I seen something on the rev battery but not this exact thing. I’m sorry I don’t know that much on the rev but I will look into it further.
According to everything I’ve seen on that firmware, for battery care. Treat the same as 2.1.7. Depends on your charging habits. If you’ve been only charging up to the green light and then unplugging your at a higher risk of the BMS triggering the RLOD due to cell unbalanced. A preventive measure is to plug it in for the 2 weeks. You can ride out between charging and the 2 weeks do not need to be consecutive. When you can, let it charge. It’s a trickle charge while the healthy fuller cells match up with the lower to balance. I def recommend only when you are around. I wouldn’t put it on the charger and leave. Hope this helped. Good luck!

@@loganjacobson2335 interesting. I just encountered the initial. But two weeks of charging evened it all out.
