I am playing catch-up on videos. First off, this is not a fashion fail. 😊 I used to read The Phantom comic strip in my local newspaper. Dr. Jenny makes my day. 😃
Absolutely loved this. Some great finds. I’d love to know what those Phantom books are like. John Christopher is someone I’ll be reading more of - The Death of Grass is brilliant. Tel Book 2023 is happening soon….The Captain’s Table would be good for that.I need to look around Southport too….I love Jenny’s contributions at the side too. Great video mate.
Typed a comment, and my tablet lost it. Let's try again. The Phantom started as an American newspaper strip, and was originally set in India, which may be why his adventures have always been so popular there. There are thousands of Indian Phantom comics in existence. However, at some point someone forgot, andhe was transplanted to Africa. As for "the ghost who walks" thing, and his seeming immortality, this is down to the Phantom being a hereditary position passed down from father to son through the ages. Quite why no one ever caught on to that is a mystery to me.
I vaguely remember something like those story slides from the 60s. There was a box in the attic, no light gun but a hand held device. I recall Shazam and maybe the Phantom. I recognize the outfit.
I’ve heard of the Phantom before, though I haven’t read any of the books. I did enjoy the 90s film with Billy Zane, but for years I confused it with the Shadow film, which is worth a watch as well, that came out around the same time. Families can be a conservative lot when it comes to a chap expressing himself. I’ve been in war of attrition with my mom and sisters over my beard for years now. They hold this strange belief that they have the right to edit my face.
kudos for bravery in having a sliding pile of books in the background - a sign of a real reader really reading - but rare on booktube, where usually the books are tidily on shelves.
Aww....who voted? I love the ascot! Nice haul.... definitely eying those Phantoms. Gonna have to look for some at my local used shop if they are halfway decent. They look like a great series to set alongside Doc Savage.
It will be interesting to see how her historical stories were revisited in Cadfael - for instance there's a novel about the Battle of Shrewsbury that features in the second Cadfael novel
I laughed at the same point as your wife when you said nobody else interested in your light toy gun.😂 Question though what was with that random freebie and the bean reference I had to rewind because I thought I misheard!
John Christophers The world in winter is pretty good, his pinnacle of post apocalyptic writing is The Death of Grass. There was a film of The Phantom (mid 90's I think), I cant remember if it's any good so may have to look it out. As a fashion choice the ascot is definitely a choice, maybe you'll start a booktube trend?
The Phantom, the Ghost Who Walks, was born on the shores of Africa following a shipwreck. The boy who was left on the shore swore to avenge his parents killed by pirates who attacked the ship(one of the tall ships of yore). He walked the jungles for a century or more. You should check out the movie which was underrated. The baddie in the move was a bad bad actor and a huge ham, so ignore his stupid acting and just enjoy the silly story. It's a funn movie
I like old strange and interesting ! the Ascot suits you so shame you are not going to wear it again. I love the look of those books :)
Hmmm I might need to rethink the wardrobe rethink!
@@royreadsanything Yes! I thought you looked awesome in it 😁

Been sitting here for a couple of hours waiting on your post. Yay! Finally here!

All of this makes them sound pretty great!
I know The Phantom from an old early 1940s serial. I think started as a daily comic strip in the 30s.

Shazam slides would have been equally baffling as at the time there was a cartoon on TV called Shazzan about a genie

Unfiltered face is the way to go
Great books! Looks like a lot of fun.
I certainly enjoyed finding them!

Mine are not tidy either!!
The ascot is very classy and really suits you! :)
Thank you!

Yes lovely books and styled like the pulp paperbacks
I read the first of the Lee Falk Phantom books a while ago - didn’t like the first half, but the second was a lot of fun
Good to know, thanks
Love the ascot!
I might wear it in the dark
@@royreadsanything 🤣😂😅
Love Brother Cadfael! Felse, not as much. I need to try her Edith ones or some of her other pseudonyms.
Cadfael is fantastic and I look forward to trying her straight historicals

Just a stream of consciousness thing of randomness
@@royreadsanything I sense you're holding out on me there! There must have been some connection however thin...

Once Jennie said 'Golf Club' it was doomed. Might start wearing evening dress like early BBC presenters 🤔

I'll give the movie a go, thanks
