  • Wow! What an awesome takeoff! Watch as the pilot throttles up the engines while the brakes are still on! We race down Runway 20R at John Wayne Orange County Santa Ana Airport and lift off steeply to the south! We then make our way over the Pacific Ocean before turning left and to the East! Flight was delayed about an hour due to a leak in the rear lavatory! Listen to that awesome Pratt & Whitney engine sound throughout the video! Economy Comfort was excellent and featured TV's in every seat! Service was excellent too and came with free alcoholic beverages! I've always wanted to film this takeoff on the 757 and finally got the opportunity on leap year day! Filmed from the Economy Comfort cabin on board Delta Air Lines! Flight 2454 to Atlanta. 2/29/20.

    Lol they all gotta do steep climb out of John Wayne so they don’t inconvenience the rich people at Newport Beach. If they go over on decibels at the buoy off Newport Cut the airline gets fined. Even the 737-900 which isn’t known to be a steep climber or powerhouse does a steep climb outta that airport.

Keep the same 757 size and the power but make it more fuel efficient instead of trying to make the 737 longer and longer and now look at all the problems they’re having 🥴 For all the money that’s been wasted on the 737 max programs it would’ve been cheaper in the long run for Boeing to put out a bid to engine makers GE, P&W, and rolls Royce to come up with new fuel efficient engines for the 757. That’s what the military did with the C5 galaxy. Changed out all the engines with new more fuel efficient ones to make them still practical to use for 20+ more years

    b757-200 has one of the highest engine to weight ratio performance. It's unique wing design allows it to handle steep turns, take offs and maneuvers that other jets in its class. It's actually very much like a private small jet. Matter of fact this particular plane was responsible for some violent vortex winds on take off that in NYC it caused one large commercial plane that took off after it to crash! and another b747 experience very several turbulence. So the FAA spaced out several minutes between the b757-200 and plane that took immediately after it. I myself got to experience this plane in it's glory in Miami several years ago. It was newly overhauled and the plane wasn't that full. It was was raining heavily and the captain assured us that "this mighty plane with it's power engine and body design that get us through this low level storm and into clear skies in a matter of minutes" He shot up at a very step angle and I remember trying to lean forward and it was difficult because of the angle we were in. Those engines sounded like a roaring beast. Truly. Amazing plane and design. Other variants of this with the extended body lacked the shorter version performance and power.

    I have a hard time thinking of a better piece of commercial kit than a Boeing 757-200, with PW2000 engines, retrofitted with winglets and the stellar Sky Interior, and covered in Delta's gorgeous livery. Fantastic video.

    • @ecoRfan
      @ecoRfan 4 года назад +4

      The Sky Interior definitely helps. The RB211’s do have better climb rate performance though. Can’t be sure about reliability or efficiency. But Delta has really made a Cadillac out of the 757 series by keeping it updated and modern despite being on an old-tech frame.

    • @KoopaCreeperSC
      @KoopaCreeperSC 4 года назад +1

      ecoRfan Yeah the RB211 is definitely more powerful, both at takeoff and climb. It also needs less maintenance due to the oversized engine core, and is more reliable. The PW2000 has better fuel burn and is ever so slightly lighter, enabling a longer theoretical range. Anecdotally it has lower overall maintenance costs, but has lower dispatch reliability and is annoyingly in the shop a lot more than a RB211. Different natures, but both are brilliant machines! I also love how Delta takes such good care of their old aircraft.

The pilots spooled up at the end of the runway with the brakes on, released them, shot down the runway and lifted off fast and steep. Then after a short time in the air cut the throttles and dropped the nose...noise abatement. On both flights it was very dramatic, on the 757 some guy a couple of rows in front of me freaked out. This was probably 25-30 years ago. Since then I've been on other flights where it was not so extreme and I think you hardly notice it anymore.

    I've been on many of these bad boys over the years, I'll miss them dearly especially the RR powered version, the term homesick angel was penned for these graceful, overpowered birds.

    I just took off from there this week in a United 737 Max. It was unbelievably quiet. You can’t hear that engine roar like this 757. I prefer the roar, but it was a nice aircraft.

    Love how as the plane gains altitude, AND AIRSPEED, it seems to slow down judging from the ground as viewed from a seat. The farther away you are, the slower it seems to be.
    That's why a missile fired at you appears to just hang in the air for several seconds, then gets incredibly large and fast as it nears you

    What?? The PW2000 actually sounds like the RB211 when on high thrust. Never noticed until I saw this video right here, very interesting.

    God those PW2000 engines sound absolutely amazing! I remember flying on a Southwest 737-700 out of there a few years back, that take off was no joke, especially the G's when it starts to level off! Great catch!
